Sunshine and Showers

Teal combines beautifully with accents of bright mustard for a surprisingly warm and fresh scheme. Add tones of grey to soften the more vibrant colours and to create a touch of sophistication. This scheme works well in modern houses as well as period properties, and can be given a vintage, modern or traditional feel depending on your furnishings and accessories. Walls can simply be painted with a deep teal paint, or given a distressed look with a “crackle paper.

Coastal Chic

Living by the coast as we do, why not have at least one scheme dedicated to our beautiful coastal position. You could really go to town with images of sailing ships and seagulls with matching deckchair stripes. Or if you want something more subtle, opt for natural linen and cotton fabrics in Image courtesy of Linwood shades of blue, green and stone, with the occasional splash of red. Add “cladding” effect wallpaper if your home isn’t blessed with coastal features, and go beachcombing for driftwood and shells for an authentic coastal touch.

Traditional Elegance

For a traditional, elegant and sophisticated scheme, choose classic damask or paisley patterns with complementary stripes and plains. Opulent fabrics with texture and sheen such as velvet, silk and embroideries exude style and elegance. Colours should be subtle tones of naturals and greys with muted accent colours to create an harmonious blend of furnishings.

Woodland Retro

This scheme has its roots ďŹ rmly in the 1950s and 60s with its bold, stylised woodland creatures and foliage. You needn’t stick to the traditional woodland colours of earthy browns and greens. Instead choose bright orange, teal, blue, and lime for a real retro twist. Complement bold patterns with geometric, block printed fabrics, and add a feature wallpaper of cut logs or woodland tree silhouettes for a real back to nature experience.

New collections - Spring 2015 Perfectly named - the “get happy” collection of kids fabrics and wallpapers by Jane Churchill is sure to brighten anyone’s spirits. Racing cars, butterflies, wild animals and dogs are just a few of the fun patterns available in this collection. The range also includes complementary spots, stripes and zigzags, to ensure your scheme works in perfect harmony. This collection is guaranteed to get everyone happy!

The Sanderson Vintage II collection offers an eclectic mix of cottage florals and whimsical patterns in a marvellous explosion of joyous colour. Captivated by the vintage vibe in the air, the Sanderson studio have delved into the archive to create a collection of favourite patterns from the early to mid-20th century, bringing them back to life so that they can be used in fresh and original ways in contemporary interiors. The collection comprises twelve fabric prints with complementary wallpapers.

Manuel Canovas are well known for taking the rule book and throwing it out of the window, and their latest collection of bold printed and embroidered fabrics and wallpaper is no exception. If you are looking for a real wow-factor in your design scheme, then look no further than this!

Behind the scenes....

Sadly, the traditional techniques of curtain making are a dying art, with many high street manufacturers choosing to entirely machine stich curtains and blinds, which is quicker and requires less skill. But these short-cuts also result in an inferior product. We believe that spending a little extra time and attention on our products result in the quality and finish our customers expect and deserve.

The unsung heroes and heroines of Sue Foster are our incredibly talented curtain makers, loose cover makers, cushion makers and fitters. Working from our sewing room in an enviable position overlooking Emsworth Marina, our team produce beautiful soft furnishings using traditional, hand finished techniques.

And all this care and attention to detail does not come at an extra cost to you. With our “Price Match Promise” you can rest assured that our prices are competitive compared to similar retailers. Even if we do have to give our little elves the occasional tea break!

... t r e p x e e h t k As I live on a busy street in town and need something to give me privacy at my sitting room window. I don’t like net curtains and still want the light to come into the room. What would you recommend that would give me privacy and light but still look stylish? It depends on how high and deep your windows are, but you could consider using shutters which Image courtesy of Decora give privacy and can be adjusted according to the light requirement. Shutters can be installed on the whole window, or only the lower half of the window enabling the upper window to let in the light un-obscured. Another option is a two-tier effect where the top shutters can be opened independently of the bottom ones. Alternatively, you could opt for white wooden Venetian blinds at the window for a shutter “effect”. The white wood will help to reflect the light into the room. We have a wonderful range of reasonably priced shutters and wooden Venetian blinds to suit most windows, even bi-folding doors and shaped windows. Send us a photo or pop in to see us and we will happily help you out with which would be the best option for your window.

I have a sofa that needs re-covering, but I am unsure which would be best, a loose cover or fixed upholstery. Can you help? If your sofa is in need of structural repair, for example new springs or the frame needs repairing, then you will need to go down the route of re-upholstery. The upholsterer will strip down the sofa to its bare bones, and rebuild it with strengthened joints, springs, padding and cushions. You essentially get a good as new (if not better) sofa. If your sofa is still structurally sound, but the fabric just needs updating, then loose covers are an excellent alternative. The benefits are that they can be removed for washing, and you could even have a second set made for a different season; and because there is less work involved in making loose covers, the cost of these will usually be less than re-upholstery. Our loose covers are cut and fitted in-situ to the exact dimensions of your furniture to ensure a perfect fit.
