A bit about us...
As a local small business we are fortunate to have so many of our customers return to us and recommend us to their friends. But for those of you who haven't visited us before, we thought you might like to know a bit about us, our history, values and just what makes us tick! Our company was started in 1977 by Sue Foster as a small retailer of designer fabrics based in Portsmouth. Sue moved the business to Emsworth in the mid 80s and has been settled here ever since. Sue Foster Fabrics (as it was then known) was originally located on the High Street, before moving to new premises just down the road in Queen Street. In 2006, Sue retired and sold the business to Chris and Vicky Gorton, freshly returned from a sojourn overseas with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Chris and Vicky were looking for a new challenge, and developed the services side of the business making curtains, blinds, upholstery, loose covers - you name it! They re-named the business Sue Foster Interiors in 2008 to reflect the increased focus on all elements of interior decoration. The company grew from 2 full time and 2 part-time staff to 6 full time, 3 part time staff, curtain makers, fitters, upholsterers, loose cover makers and many more local crafts people. In 2013 we out-grew our premises in Queen Street and moved the showroom to its lovely new home at 51 High Street (almost next door to its original location) and the operations and work-room moved to a head office at Emsworth Yacht Harbour. Chris and Vicky have always strived to provide the best in customer service, quality and value for money. Which is why we are fortunate to have so many loyal customers, as well as many new ones who appreciate our values and service ethos. So please do pop in if you are passing and have a browse through our extensive fabric and wallpaper collections, and have a chat with our experienced and friendly showroom advisers. They may even make you a cup of tea!!

Named as THE pantone colours of 2016, expect to see much more of subtle blues and pinks in the coming months. Best used in bedrooms or sitting rooms, this scheme creates a peaceful and subtle contemporary look in both traditional and modern settings.
Copper and Blue Image courtesy of Zoany
We have become used to seeing metallics in a range of interior decorating schemes, but copper has deďŹ nitely become the designers favourite. Contrasted against deep, rich blue, this scheme adds drama and vibrancy to modern environments.
Amethyst and Stone r Image courtesy of Colefax & Fowle
Adding a rich purple tone to an otherwise classic colour like stone adds a visual interest and a level of warmth and sophistication to any home. Warm, rich tones of amethyst and plum work just as well on walls as on soft furnishings or accessories and makes a room feel engaging and welcoming.
Orange and Grey Image courtesy of Harlequin
Grey schemes can be a bit cold and dark, especially in North facing rooms. So why not pep it up by adding in a few touches of sunny, bright orange. Choosing bright tangerines in modern or retro schemes will add a fun, conďŹ dent and individual vibe to any home.
New Collections - SPRING 2016 GP&J Baker's new "Cosmopolitan" collection achieves the perfect balance between its legendary heritage and stunning new designs. Luxurious silks and opulent velvets together with contemporary textural weaves and embroideries, in a vibrant, sophisticated palette, give the “Cosmopolitan” collection a universal modern appeal.
The 2016 collection by Manuel Canovas transports us to India in a harmony of Canovas colours. The collection features broad ikat prints, relief medallions, symmetrical embroidered ribbons, stripe weaves replicating the decorative borders of saris, paisley prints and stylised jasmine and banyan flowers. The ethnic inspirations of a far-off land are transposed onto original materials available in typical Canovas shades, giving them a more modern style whilst remaining faithful to exquisite French taste. Nothing lifts the spirits like a ramble in the countryside, which was the inspiration behind Sanderson's latest collection of fabrics and wallpapers. Woodland Walk takes you through the seasons with plants and wildlife depicted in eight prints, four embroideries, textured plains and beautiful linens, together with eight coordinating wallpapers, all in nature inspired patterns and colours.
HASSLE-FREE DECORATING It's the time of year when most of us are starting to think about those painting and decorating projects which have been waiting all winter to get done! But if it's been a while since you last tackled painting or wallpapering, you might be a bit bamboozled by some of the new products which are on the market. So here's a quick look at some of our new decorating products and how they might save you time and money You may think that paints fall into two categories - emulsion for the walls and gloss for woodwork. Walk into any DIY store and you can be faced with an array of different paint categories. Zoffany, our leading paint supplier, have developed 4 paint finishes which fulfill all your decorating needs. FLAT EMULSION - A water based emulsion that dries to an exceptionally chalky flat finish, emphasising the deep pigments in each colour. The flat finish and durability of this paint makes it ideal for interior walls and ceilings, leaving a gently spongeable surface. ELITE EMULSION - Washable and stain resistant emulsion paint for modern living. This water-based finish is ideal for kitchens, children's rooms and high traffic areas. ACRYLIC EGGSHELL - Hardwearing and washable water based paint suitable for interior walls, ceilings, woodwork, radiators and metalwork. Acrylic eggshell provides a low sheen finish that makes it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories. Also suitable for exterior use on woodwork and primed metals. EGGSHELL - Traditional oil based paint giving a low sheen finish resistant to steam and condensation in kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories, this durable paint is ideal for interior woodwork and metalwork and is also suitable for use on exterior woodwork and primed metals. We have also seen a recent rise in the popularity of "paste the wall" wallpapers which essentially mean you apply the paste directly to the wall, rather than pasting the paper and allowing it to soak in. So you can do away with the wallpaper table and simply apply the paper to the wall, cut it to length and away you go! Quicker, easier and much less messy than the traditional method. You must make sure that the paper you use is suitable for paste the wall, though, as it is a special non-woven paper which doesn't shrink like traditional papers.
If you have any decorating project looming, then pop in to have a chat with us first and we'll be happy to advise on the best product for you. Wabi Sabi Wallpapers by Scion
rt..... e p x E e h t Ask Q: I have recently had large floor to ceiling bi-fold doors installed in my house, but don't know how to dress them. Even though the room isn't overlooked, I want to soften the glass at night and shade the room in the summer. I want to maintain quite a sleek, modern look but without any frame to fix a pole or bracket to I don't know anything that could work. A: Bi-fold doors, and floor-to-ceiling windows are increasingly popular in modern homes. Thankfully, we have a range of tracks that will hopefully help to solve your problem. The most popular option is the "wave" curtain and track system by Silent Gliss. It is created through combining a specially designed heading tape and Wave glider-cord to get a soft and simple continuous wave effect. The finished appearance is similar to that of eyelet curtains but fabric hangs directly below the track in a neat and uniform style. Tracks can be wall fixed or ceiling hung, and hand operated, cord operated, or electric. Wave curtains are best suited to light or medium weight fabrics, for example; voiles, light cottons, silks and soft linens, which naturally fall into a soft wave pattern when folded. Alternatively, you could opt for a panel slide system which is a series of voile panels which overlap one-another perfect for the popular extensive glazed areas of modern architecture. Choose between flat and folding panels, straight or curved tracks.
If you have an interior challenge that you don't know how to solve, or just need some expert advice, why not drop us a line at showroom@suefoster.co.uk or pop in to see us at 51 High Street, Emsworth PO10 7AN.
