How to choose beautiful soft furnishings
SUE FOSTER INTERIORS 51 High Street | Emsworth
Like most people, I don't have much time to spare these days. Work, kids and the occasional sailing race take up pretty much every spare moment. So when I do need to buy something I want it to be as quick and painless as possible. My wife is usually the one to make the majority of buying decisions in our home (sound familiar?) but a recent project to re-vamp our bathroom has made me realise how much I appreciate good customer service combined with an easy and enjoyable buying experience. Well laid out showrooms with experienced and friendly staff as well as clear pricing and quality guarantees are just what I'm looking for. It has made me realise that in these days of internet shopping, there are definitely some things that you need to see in the flesh before buying. I like to think that if I were walking into our showroom for the first time, I would experience great service, friendly advice, clear pricing and inspiring products. The feedback from our lovely customers has reassured me that they feel exactly that. And don't forget we have a fantastic 20% off all fabrics with every curtain making or upholstery order placed before 6th February. See you soon!

Top Design Tips for a Beautiful Home If you've recently moved house, or just fancy a bit of a re-vamp, it can be rather overwhelming when it comes to designing your home. You may have Image courtesy of Linwood existing furniture or furnishings to take into consideration, or be pressured to make snap decisions by builders and decorators eager to get going. So where do you start? Here's are some of our top tips for successful interior design: When thinking about interior design, try and see your house as a totality rather than trying to decorate each room with unique themes and colours. The most successful interior schemes have a common style or colour palette running throughout all the rooms. Consider the balance of the room. This includes the physical placement of furniture, but also includes the balance of colour, light and tone within a room. Balance out any accent colours so they lead your eye around a room, or add Image courtesy of Colefax & Fowler darker shades to add depth and interest. Place lamps so that they create an even distribution of light around the room. Always make sure your room has a focal point or one main striking feature. This could be anything from a fireplace to a bay window. If your room isn't blessed with an architectural focal point you can easily create one with a piece of striking art, a mirror or a feature wall. Quality counts. Don't cut corners with poorly made or finished items. A room will be transformed with well made and dressed furnishings. In the long run, these investment pieces will offer better value for money and longevity. Know your colour palette - and stick to it! Use only one or two key colours within a room and add interest with different shades of light and dark within the colour tone. If you can't find a pattern which incorporates both colours, use contrast piping on cushions or trims on curtains and blinds to pull the colour scheme together. Image courtesy of Sanderson
Cut the clutter. Easier said than done - especially if your home is "spatially challenged". The creative use of storage in-keeping with your scheme will ensure clutter can quickly and easily be tidied away. Seagrass lidded baskets, antique trunks and storage benches all help to hide the clutter and look beautiful too. Finally, remember the immortal words of William Morris: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful". Stick to this mantra and you won't go far wrong. Happy decorating!
