SUE FOSTER INTERIORS

This year, Sue Foster Interiors celebrated 40 years of providing beautiful soft furnishings to the local area. Founded in 1977 as a small shop selling designer fabrics in Portsmouth, we have grown into one of the best known and respected soft furnishing suppliers in the area. Of course, this would not have been possible without our loyal customers who have trusted us to turn their inspiring projects into a beautiful reality. A huge "thank you" to all our wonderful customers and hard working team over the past 40 years. Here's to the next 40! Chris and Vicky Gorton

Passion for Colour

A neutral colour scheme is the safest and most universally appealing when it comes to home decor. It can also be easier to find co-ordinating furnishings and accessories, which is why high street retailers are such fans of keeping interiors plain and neutral. But if you are hankering after a bit of colour in your life, we've gathered our top tips to help inspire you to play around with colour…. Image by Sanderson

2. Use wallpapers – Choose a wallpaper with a subtle touch of colour and mirror the same colour in cushions and accessories. If you don't want to paper the whole room choose just one or two walls, or opt for hanging a panel in an old picture frame or even fix beading around the edge of a wallpapered board for an easy and cost-effective display.

3. Trim it – if you just want a hint of colour to liven up your otherwise neutral scheme but don't want the colour to dominate, then colourful braids and trims are a simple and effective solution. Add a trim along the leading edge of your curtains or a border along the bottom of a roman blind. Trims also look great on cushions and add colourful buttons to furniture for an unexpected splash of colour.

4. Add bold accessories – the best way to play with colour is to add colourful accessories like cushions, rugs and lamps. These are easily and inexpensively changed and, against a neutral backdrop, can instantly brighten up a room. Don't forget that functional items such as cupboard handles and curtain poles can also provide wonderful colour accents within a room. Image by Byron and Byron

5. Rescue boring bookshelves – cupboards and bookshelves provide the perfect vehicle for bright colours and patterns in a room. Paint or paper the shelves and inside walls of the bookcase to create a unique statement piece that will brighten up any room.

6. Aim high – Ok this is really only for the bold and brave, but ceilings have been seriously neglected over recent years. We can safely draw the line at an artex resurgence, but there's no law against adding colour to your (probably white) ceiling. Painting is the quickest and easiest option (wallpapering ceilings would test even the most proficient of decorator) and it's no big deal to paint over it if it's a step too far!

1. Create a colourful welcome – Painting your front door a bright colour will give your house serious kerb appeal, as well as putting a smile on the face of everyone who walks through the door. Go for bright primary colours like red, yellow or green for real impact, or choose a more muted colour like duck egg, blush or sage for understated elegance.

OUR FAVOURITE...new fabric and wallpaper collections Indienne influences and subtle rich shades combine harmoniously in Colefax and Fowler's latest fabric and wallpaper collections. Lavish embroideries and prints are set beautifully on herringbone cloth, linens are built with depth of texture and colour, and wallpapers are reenvisioned with silk and linen effects which evoke the sumptuous impression of wall-mounted textiles.

"Tango" By Linwood is inspired by the movement and passion of the Argentinian dance. This bright and lively collection features tropical prints alongside geometric weaves in fresh, vibrant colours. Rich printed velvets suitable for upholstery sit alongside lighter linens for curtains and blinds. With influences from wicker furniture, the co-ordinating weaves are carefully coloured to link with the rest of the collection. We love the two latest Andrew Martin collections so much, we had to choose them both! "Hacienda" is packed full of hot and dusty colours, bringing vibrant Mexican art, wildlife and culture straight into your home, whilst "Expedition" is inspired by global travel, consisting of ikats, kilims, animal motifs and co-ordinating ticking stripes and plains. And the best bit is that prices start at only ÂŁ29.90 per metre! One of our most popular new ranges, The Potting Room collection from Sanderson HOME celebrates the British love of kitchen gardens and rustic allotments. Inspired by natural wildflower gardens and the humble garden shed, each design has been created in a fresh and contemporary colour palette. Co-ordinating weaves and wallpapers are also available to create an effortlessly timeless scheme. And with beautiful embroideries starting at only ÂŁ36 per metre, it's an all-round winner!
