The month's weather was dominated by anti-cyclones. Quiet conditions with light E. winds and frequent fogs at night existed for two long periods—Ist to 14th and again 17th to 27th. Between there was a brief change to W. wind and rain. The month ended with five days of stormy W. winds to gale force. Rainfall was low, only 0-57" being received on a total of eight days, of which -38" feil on the last day. Temperatures were in general above average. Ground frost occurred on 22nd but there was no air frost. Av. Temp. +11£°C.

NOVEMBER

The opening week of the month was dry. Winds decreased from W. gales on Ist and became E. on 5th, remaining between N.E. and S.E. until 22nd. The first air frosts were recorded on 2nd-4th, and again on 12th-15th and 21st-26th. The first ice on the pond was seen on the morning of 13th. Snow showers occurred on 14th and 15th and snow lay for a time on both 22nd and 30th. A wet period set in on the 16th and rain was recorded every day tili the end of the month. Rainfall total was 2-43" received on twenty-one days. Av. Temp. +4£°C. Av. Max. +7°C. Av. Min. +2°C. DECEMBER

- The month was seemingly warmer than November, the only long period of night frosts being 25th-30th. Day temperatures were at or below freezing on 27th and 28th but reached +12°C. on 17th and 18th. Winds were predominantly W. and a series of depressions resulted in frequent rain. Rainfall total was 4-16" received on twenty-three days. This gave a total rainfall for 1965 of 29-34", a wet year. E. winds from 4th to 26th kept temperatures low. Snow feil from 13th to 17th and accumulated until it was three inches deep. A slow thaw started on 20th and by 23 rd most of the snow had gone. Some rain was received each day from 20th until the end of the month, although totals were generally small. Temperatures from 26th, with the return of W. conditions, were much higher, reaching +11°C. on 30th. The lowest temperature recorded was —7°C. on 18th. FEBRUARY

The month was rather wetter and warmer than average. Day temperatures for the first week were about + 10°C. but feil sharply to maxima of 3°C. or less with a change from W . to E. winds on the 9th. The E. winds persisted for ten days, often with night frosts, but rain was lighter and less frequent than in the first week. W. winds returned on the 19th with warmer but wetter conditions which continued to the end of the month. I n all 2-10" of rain feil, on a total of twenty-one days. Av. Temp. +5£°C*

MARCH

There was little advance in day temperatures during the month, maxima remaining within 3° of +10°C. throughout. Night frosts occurred on six occasions. Winds were W . and frequently strong, accompanied by squally showers and thunder. Snow showers feil on 24th and again on 28th. Snow lving deep on the morning of 25th quickly melted. Rainfall was low in total, only 0-57' being recorded, on thirteen days. Av. Temp. + 7 ° C . Av. Max. + 10£°C. Av. Min. + 3 ° C .
