Although the species count fell considerably in 1998, the year was notable for the abundance of Holly Blues and it was encouraging to see the Wall Brown at an inland locality. 1999 saw an increase in the number of species but the three days of rain resulted in a lowering of the daily species-average. We were pleased to observe a male Dark Green Fritillary* on 4 August, a Painted Lady on 6 August and several Wall Browns on three days. 1991-1999 Daily species-averages Because the same walks were completed in every year of the survey, it is possible to compare the average numbers of species seen daily: Year Dates Daily Species Average
