A Lizard Orchid in Ipswich This charming specimen of Himantoglossum hircinum appeared in a strip of very ordinary grassland in front of a car sales forecourt in Ipswich in June 2020. A passer by recognised it and sent me a photo to confirm the id. The timing was fortuitous as, when I informed the site manager about the plant, he showed me the strimmer he had brought in that very day to cut the verge. They were very pleased to know they had such a rarity and promised to try and protect it (without drawing attention to it!). It will be interesting to see if it survives to flower again.
