The studio encouraged us to look into sustainable vernacular construction techniques and materials in and around the site. The studio also encouraged not to use any Non-sustainable materials. Due to the pandemic situation, the studio encouraged us to choose our own site and the program which the site demands. The site chosen is in Malleshwaram, which has a rich cultural heritage and is also famous for its commercial edge. Due to rapid Globalization and industrialization lots of commercial outlets have popped up in the Sampige Raste, pushing all the small scale artists away from the main streets. The project is a craft and cultural museum which also provides a platform for these artists to showcase their art and creates a market for them.

Studio: VI Studio Mentors: Mahalakshmi Karnad I Archana Vittal I Gaurav Sareen I Shiny Prabakar Project type: Aranyaka (School of Design, Mysore University, Mysore)
Traditionally places of education were always situated next to water bodies. Water bodies have also become a cultural symbol for ‘Gyan’ (Knowledge) and can be seen in paintings of goddess Saraswati, Rishis, etc. Vegetation also plays an important role as traditional schools were held under a tree where there are no restrictions and the artists learn and get inspired by things happening around them. The idea was to reduce the ground coverage and have a large opening which allows the outside to be part of inside. School of Design where the local handicrafts of Mysore are thought like Channapata toys, Textile and Mysore Painting

The Site at present is used for agricultural use and has nonindigenous trees being planted. These non-indigenous trees disturb the existing
natural cycle causing many Figs shows the ecological birds to migrate to Ranganati- cycle showing interdepentu. Resulting in lesser bird mi- dence of indigenous species gration at kukkarahalli kere.

Typically houses are constructed with locally available Kadappa and Granite stones which are made into flat slabs and used as bricks for construction. The roof is usually made out of a layer of earth which is supported by wooden rafters. The walls are approximately 600mm th which reduces the heat gain. The house share common walls to avoid surfaces exposed to sunlight and the walls are painted with white lime which reflects heat
