In Korea, we had a copious rainfall this summer. I continued to walk with my umbrella and it was filled with rainwater in the world. But, the space in the umbrella I held up only had the empty space and felt comfortable in the rainy day. This memory inspires me to emulate the image of that day and conceive the idea of my own space.

The reappearance of the rainy day
The city is crowded and noisy. The outline of the building is too tedious and derivative, at least Seoul. However, in the rainy day, the city lost its shape and then became obscure while an umbrella we put up blocks off the city’s noise. So, we can see completely different views of the city. This artwork encourages us to break the existing image we know first and try to get diverse visual images through emitting fog and rainwater.

How to evolve the architectural space? In the past when there was no refrigerator or ice box, products that were meant to be frozen or refrigerated were mixed in a space. But as the world changed, segmented distinct space that were adept to each functions such as refrigerators, cloth refrigerator and built-in furniture. As such, space was segmented and were more functionalized. The function of the spaces we live in might also have respective spaces that takes completely needed functions in the future. Insta-space project is the space for those who need their own contemplating space. It is one’s own space that is visibly open but that can’t be invaded by others.
Insert flexible poles in the small wooden disk. and then connect the disk with the handle which can be moved through the bar.
The Speculation Space_ Instaroom
In a rainy day the space inside an umbrella is one’s own domain. The space inside the umbrella is not closed but blocks the sight and gives comfort. Insta-space is a personal meditation space that can be opened and closed as an umbrella. In order to enter the interspace of the Insta-space, one has to expand the space between the flexible poles by pulling down the handle. Therefore if someone is inside no other can invade that space. Like such, Insta-space gives a space for oneself but is also a space for oneself with an open sight.
When you put the handle down to enter an instraroom, all poles come to more pliable and a void widens.
Once you go into an instaroom, others can’t intrude into there. This is because their hands can’t touch the handle which makes to broaden the entrance. Enjoy some time alone!

The public nature of a construction is always an important topic. There has always been an interest for an open space but in reality the communication method and the ideas about its spaces have not been easily changed. Time has changed and also the relationship method of the contemporary men but the topic in public nature of the construction has only emphasized about the open space. But in reality we have to doubt if a vast open space is what we actually desire. This generation communicates through the Social Network Service (SNS) and according to each SNS’s nature they construct their own space. Inside their own space of SNS they accumulate relationship with friends or someone who they never met. We in that space do not need to show everything and no one wants to know everything about oneself. Inside the SNS frame we form a relationship with only that amount of information and become close to each other as so much. But ironically perhaps this tendency is the real nature of the contemporary people. I researched the SNS communication method and studied how the communication and public nature is reflected in the actual construction.
TWITTER A Rumor Spreads
The communication of TWITTER is not individual relationship accumulation. Mass information spread by many personal connections is the real power of TWITTER. Whether the information in TWITTER is the truth or not is not the main interest. Whether if it produces topic among users and if it gets spread is the essence of TWITTER. Actually the reality is that if countless of rumors are spread over certain number of users it becomes the truth. As the minute movement of a prey in a spider web is reached to the spider through the spider web, the information inside TWITTER has a ripple effect on many users. Individual space in the vast space creates their own holes. The vast and inquisitive conversation space between people is intertwined as a skein of thread forming many diverse spaces and are spaced as a massive spider web connected to each other.

INSTAGRAM # hashtags INSTAGRAM’s hash tag function allows you to see pictures of your interest that someone uploaded. Also someone wishes to show off their daily life to others. INSTAGRAM is a space where one shows off and gets content to the many followings of one’s display. Each space is covered by their own pictures and is open to everyone who visits. One’s pictures trickle out from their own space and is made public to whomever has interest in them. These images are reiterated and reduced plastering the massive image world.

Facebook is different to TWITTER and INSTAGRAM because it realizes one’s already known “real life relationship” online. The News Feed where the posts and pictures of one’s friends are arranged in a single page in real time, is characterized with the maintenance of relation with friends who are inside one’s real network.
An Imaginary Person
https://vimeo.com/114463615 This video is about an imaginary person on SNS. We sometimes upload our pictures on facebook in order to show my lifestyle and also easily get my friends’ pictures on News feed. It seems like News Feed on facebook and we can use to look around my friend’s life at once.I guess this SNS presents a sort of desire to show off. Many friends I know respectively took their selfvideo by the GoPro helmet mount and I edited parts of their faces. The tiny pieces of face make different human-face shapes by time and The imaginary human is described as our distorted images on News Feed.

The architected Facebook space is comprised of mutual networks tied into one. It overgrows from a mutual body and forms a unique space of their own. These spaces are reflected in the mirror to one’s surroundings domain and transmits the image that one wants to show to the personal connections like a News Feed.

The New City Council as The Observatory
The disconnected space I want to make the cultural aspects retain its continuity from the city council to Hwangudan Altar, but there are two limitations:first, people had to get on detour without a straight way from city hall square to the Altar and second, the level of Hwangudan Altar is still higher than that of city hall square.

Council project's focus is on the historical and cultural Link. Clear that the council has just the place for city council officials and Non-square, Sejong-ro ro and context in one place Space can be interpreted to recognize the work of the citizens is also a series of Wongudan on th e continuity of the cultural context and the relationship was considered saints. Be read as a stream of cultural and historical places of the city council context. All things being recognized for refining the role of perception is just.
Site
The need for new space The existing city council building only offers spaces for discussing administration. The new city council site proposes to have more cultural facilities.
Hwangudan Altar
The sealed Hwangudan The Alter of Heaven is where Gojong, the king of Joseon (Korea’s ancient name) offered the rituals that demonstrated that Joseon became the “empire”. However, such historical significance is found nowhere as the Chosun Hotel now occupying the site makes Hwangudan look like Hotel’s back garden.
The linker on the city By filtering Sejongno’s chaotic metropolis, my site connects traditional areas altogether. Also, the new city council linked to Hwangudan Altar provides distinguished experiences to many citizens.
Delay Motion Video
Even though one is in front of the camera, the image seen is not one’s present image, instead they are past images overlapped with the present images and is a task of verifying the continuity of the past and present. This task created a continued delay effect on screen using the “Delay Video Application” function. As one’s image created by overlapping the past image, the path climbing the Wongudan is a project in which filters the image of Seoul through the historical structures of the past and by climbing the new city council building one can understand the present’s image.

The New City Council as The Observatory Hwangudan(The Alther of Heaven) is too isolated from the surrounding buildings. While going up the traditional place along the new building, we can recall the past time we fogetted. The M stage at the Munlea Art Village Munlea-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul Graduation project, 2009 Individual work critic: prof. Hye-june Hwang
In Mullae-dong, two groups, artists and iron workers, live in the same buildings, which means we are required to deal with the new renovation without interruption each other.
While maintianing the existing iron-work buildings, we can design some performance stages with steel-frame structure, less destructive design form. As a result, the historical value of Mullae as semi-industrial district, has been preserved with the new tenants, artists.
To indiscriminately avoid redevelopment projects to build new apartments, Mullae art village is required to show the ability to have autogenic power. Provided Mullae village are crowded with people artists and workers in the region will continue to stay here.
Once hoist machine system is completed, we can easily tranform stage setting, including the wall, lighting system, and stage. It means that audiences have a lot of opportunity to participate in various art programs.

Outdoor-stage
This issue of the project regards how I meet the need of new artist community and the existing iron workers. Actually, it is difficult to find out historical and cultural values in the industrial area. Therefore, This site, Mullae-dong, does not matter architectural design itself. But, the important thing is to modulate two groups: artists and iron workers. While the former spend most of their time trying artistic activities with no holds barred, the latter want to just work without any disruptions in the daytime. After all, through architectural spaces, we had to regulate two groups’ conflicts and lead to harmonious relationships with each other while maintaining the placeness of ironworks in Mullae-dong.
Exhibition-stage
The alt space ‘A’ provides work space and exhibition space for artists on second and third floor. Meanwhile, Mullae art town lacks the spaces to display artworks and so, visitors cannot a lot of opportunity to show them. While visiting the alt space building, many people are pleased to participate this unique places based on the ironworks at nighttime or weekend. In addition, when the place is closed during daytimes on weekend, working day in Mullae dong ironworks, with using hoist construction, the slab of second floor is folded. This designed system helps to stop interfering with the operation of ironworks as well.
The hoists can lift the second floor slab and so, it helps to ensure the privacy of artists work and also, to work at the ironworks without interruption in the daytime.
If you need to hold exhibition the weekend, a gallery will be created by making the second floor slab.
A hoist machine used in ironworks shows identity in Mullae-dong. Using the crane structure to create new building enables many artists and visitors to realize placeness in Mullae-dong. Through these renovation projects, artists and ironworks employees can have chance to be in suitable harmony.
The new building is inserted into the existing building to create three theaters.
While using cranes, it is possible to expand the box space as circumstances demand.
Outdoor-stage
This alt space ‘Outdoor-stage’ offers performance spaces more than the exsting spaces and show dynamic spaces comprised of the member of framework-related ironworks. In fact, this building that is newly renovated was previously occupied by performance artists. Three large boxes are inserted with the existing building and then, enable many audience toenjoy more the lifestyle of Mullae art town. The crane, Mullae-dong icon, can be adjusted the box forms while opening and closing the boxes according to the need of performance of space.
Maintaining surface tension Insa-dong, Jong no-gu, Seoul October, 2008 Individual work critic: prof. Seo-gu Heo What is Insa-dong`s tradition? Actually, Insa-dong doesn`t have a distinct historical value. Then, what is Insadong`s identity? Its identity comes from the alleys it has. This project focuses on infusing life into the alley from the main road. Space between buildings becomes the street and forms other buildings. The water particles that are exposed in the surface that contacts the air reaches stability when the force that the liquid formed by the pulling force inside the water tries to compress and the resisting force in which prevents compression becomes balanced. As the water drop assumes its own balanced form, this site in which many strategic points of different natures encounters each other, forms the building shape by forming balance of opposing forces. We transformed the street and injected it to the building to make a shape out of it. The buildings on the alleys and the shapes of the alleys determine the design of the buildings. The form of a building depends on these two factors.
Keeping surface tension in Insa-dong
The new Insa-dong cultural space creates a change of flow in surrounding streets and forms an outline according to the changing shape. In the big streets open space and rest areas were set creating inflow of people and in the small streets small workshops and exhibition centers were created. The empty space where these big and small streets meet each other creates a unique shape maintaining its own tension.
Stage1
The size of Insadong street is proportional to that of a floating population.
Stage2
Because of the narrow alley, inside Insadong are mainly restaurants.
Stage3
If the narrow alley identifies its tradition, how do we get people to come inside?
Stage4
If Many people are attracted inside the alley, business in the street will be altered.
Stage5
Then, transforming this alley will represent Insadong’s tradition.
Unchanged Insa-dong street
As shown in the old maps of Insadong, the street remains unchanged despite the change in the buildings and programs. Thus, we can conclude that Insadong’s tradition is the alley itself.
A. The possibility of the alley is divided into three crossroads.
Selected the site
B. Connecting work is needed for communication path.
C. This place allows one to stay in the space due to changes in the width of the alley.

The biggest issue proposed in Insadong Project is to add architectural force into Insadong’ alleys. This architectural device added to Insadong transform the seemingly cultural region into the real cultural area. Insadong’s tradition comes from its alleys, not from its traditional gift shops. If the alley inside Insadong is altered, Insadong will compose a variety of programs such as gallery atelier, handcraft studio, and gift shop and eventually become a real historical and cultural site.

Refraction in the life
We encounter a numeber of situations in the subway. We often meet many people we don't know in this place. Some may think here is just passage, but others share diverse time and space of individuals. Each movement we have experienced comes to show us uninterrupted time in the same subwayspace.
