1. LINKAGES: The plaza is linked to other spaces i.e. common amenities, alighting bays and the office building. It acts as breathing space between the 2 blocks. It can also directly be accessed from the main road, it’s foreground acting as an open park. Elements used: Pathways, Steps/Ramps, Planting.
PLAZA PLAN
View of Plaza
3. Environment: 2. SAFET Y: a) Design: It has clear vision lines to and from the main road and other spaces of the building. Both clocks have clear views of the plaza from their respective circulation spaces. The Bridge at 2nd Floor also passes through and thus overlooks the plaza. b) Accessibility: The plaza provides easy access particularly for the elderly, disabled and childern. the planters, handrails and fixed seating are so arranged that they encourage comfortable manouvering of wheelchairs and pedestrian access. c) Defensible Space: The plaza offers good sur veillance opportunities for casual monitoring from within the space and along the edges.
a) Sunlight: In India, exposure to direct sunlight for elongated periods of time is inadvisable. the plaza is so designed to keep the place shaded for most part of the day. Vegetation, overhead truss and vertical screens help in keeping the temperature low and provide the users with a comfortable outdoor environment. b) Winds: The site had a dominant wind direction of NW-SE. The site building blocks were so arranged that the plaza enjoys a continuous flow of air. The ve locity of air was reduced using vegetation and low height walls. c) Noise: High levels of traffics, industries and other ambient noises distract the user. hence, the plaza has vegetation at different levels to ward off unpleasant sounds. d)Seating: Plentiful seating options have been provided to the users in the form of low height walls. Steps, inbuilt benches and planters with wide base. Some seats are movable whereas others are fixed. e) Spatial Variety: The larger open space has been spatially defined into smaller, more easily identifiable and relatable areas. Distinct sense of space has been created by defining edges using low height walls, and trees.

It can be used as an outdoor exhibition space, to sit and discuss art, read a book or just soak up the sun. At the Rear End is another space that can ser ve multiple functions, same as mentioned above. The galler y has ample space to host workshops and art festivals.
