Welcome Sullins Families, We are delighted that you have joined us for the 41st Annual Sullins Benefit, ‘Rooted in Tradition.’ We hope you have a great time while supporting our school. The generosity of our community has made the auction a success for 40 years and we are confident this will be another extraordinary event. Your bidding allows us to maintain programs and facilities that will enable us to extend the boundaries of learning for each student.

A heartfelt thanks for hours of work are due to Gina Lawson, Auction Chair, and every person listed in this guide. In addition, we are grateful to every donor who has provided items for the Auction and to the parents who have worked with students to create unique treasures.

The first Sullins Benefit in 1976 was a BBQ dinner held at Bill and Ruth King’s home.

Keeping with our theme, Rooted in Tradition, dinner provided by the Nicewonder family will be Chef Travis Rutter’s modern take on BBQ. This year’s theme also brings back some favorite auction items from years past, continues the tradition of class art projects, and will introduce some new items that may become new favorites!

We hope you enjoy the food, wave your paddle high, and spend some time with old friends and make a few new ones!

MISSION Sullins Academy challenges each student academically in a nurturing community grounded in the development of character, leadership, and service. In preparation for higher education, we motivate our students to realize their potential while encouraging a lifelong love of learning.

General Auction Rules

All payments should be made in full on the night of the auction by cash, personal check payable to “Sullins Academy,” VISA or MasterCard.

Auction purchases made by a Sullins account holder must be paid in full by December 31, 2017. Any charges made to a Sullins account that are not paid by that date will be subject to an interest fee of 10%, applied monthly to the unpaid balance.

Each attendee has a pre-registration number on a bidding “paddle,” which may be used for all silent auction and art project live auction bidding.

Values of items are donor’s estimates and are not warranted by Sullins Academy for tax purposes or general use.

Services, trips and non-tangible items (gift certificates) must be used by April 1, 2018, unless otherwise specified. Trip dates are scheduled at the discretion of the donor and are subject to availability unless otherwise specified.

All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds of items by the Donor except where specified. Occupancy of vacation properties is not transferable.

Items and gift certificates must be taken from the auction premises the evening of the auction.

Everything is sold “as is.” Sullins Academy makes no express or implied warranties with respect to property or services. By his or her purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against Sullins Academy, the Underwriters, and/or the Donor. Neither Sullins Academy, the Underwriters, nor the Donor are responsible for personal injuries or damages that may result from buyer’s or other’s use of property or services sold.

PTO THEME BASKET RULES Tickets will be on sale for $2 each of 12 tickets for $20.00 Tickets purchased the night of the auction must be paid in cash or check.

Place the ticket in the box with the corresponding number to the basket. Your full name should be on the back of the ticket.

Tickets will be on sale from October 17, 2017 through the night of the auction. There is no limit to the number of tickets a person can buy.

Winning tickets will be drawn while the Live Auction is in progress. Winners will be announced throughout the Live Auction.

Silent Auction Rules

The silent auction begins at 6:30 and closes at 8:00 p.m. Please have your bids finalized by this time.

Each item has an assigned number and a bid sheet. A person may bid by bidder number or name.

Bid sheets for all items in the Silent Auction will be attached to or affixed near the item.

Each bid must equal or exceed the minimum figure stated on the bid sheet in order to constitute a valid bid. Bidding must be in $5 increments.

The last bid on the sheet when the time is called will be circled by an auction official as the winning bid, provided the bid meets the aforementioned conditions.

In the event of a dispute, an auction official will act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder. This decision will be final.

Winning bids will be posted during the live auction.

Live Auction Rules

To bid during the Live Auction, the bidder’s number must be raised as the stated bid is made. Spotters stationed throughout the room will indicate bids to the auctioneer.

Sale of items in the Live Auction will begin at 8:15 p.m. and will continue until all items have been auctioned.

Charitable Gift Rules

Sullins Academy is a non-profit charitable organization; therefore, contributions to Sullins may be taxdeductible.

Items donated for sale at the Auction may be fully tax-deductible to Donor.

Under the “quid pro quo” rule of the IRS, a donor who receives any goods or services in exchange for a contribution may claim as a charitable deduction only the difference between the value of the goods/services and the contribution. This figure is recorded by Sullins Academy as the charitable gift (not the same as the check amount).

Auction buyers who pay less than or equal to the printed value of an item may not claim any charitable tax deduction for that purchase. Auction buyers who pay more than the estimated fair market value of an item may claim as a charitable contribution the amount over the stated value.

If there is any question as to whether or not a gift may be tax-deductible, please consult with a qualified financial advisor.
