PREFACE Nur-ul-Huda (Khurd) [The Light of Divine Guidance (Brief)] is one of the great Sufi books by Sultan Bahoo the king of all Mystics. As in all his books, he has unveiled grand secrets of Divinity in Nur-ul-Huda (Khurd) as well which are light of guidance for the travellers of path to Allah. It all is the blessing of my honourable spiritual guide Sultan-ulAshiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman to provide me the opportunity of translating Sultan Bahoo‟s Persian books in English. It is an unprecedented step in the field of Sufism to convert such books containing Divine treasures in international language for the guidance of seekers of Allah all over the world. For translation of this treatise I have used the Persian text deduced by my fellow disciple Ahsan Ali Sarwari Qadri who has translated it in Urdu. To deduce perfect Persian text he used the following scripts of Nur-ul-Huda (Khurd) provided by our spiritual guide; MANUSCRIPTS BY; 1- Sahibzada Sultan Noor Hussain Qadri, written 4th Dhul alQadah 1356 Hijri. 2- Faqeer Ghulam Nabi, written Jumada ath-Thani 1330 Hijri. 3- Hakim Ghulam Hussain Qureshi Abbasi, date of writing is not mentioned. The manuscript is currently present in Markaz Tehqiqat-e-Farsi Iran-o-Pakistan and Kitabkhana Data Gunj Bakhsh Rawalpindi, Pakistan. 4- Sultan Mahmood Muddarris resident of Mianwali, Pakistan, written in 1962 AD.

8 PUBLISHED SCRIPT; 1- Persian script with Urdu translation by Dr. K.B Naseem published in June, 1999. I heartily thank Ahsan Ali Sarwari Qadri for cooperating with me in formatting this book. May Allah accept our efforts and make this book a source of guidance for all the seekers of Allah on their path to Allah. Ameen

SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF SULTAN BAHOO Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sultan Bahoo was born on Thursday, 1st of Jumada ath-thani in 1039 AH (17 January, 1630 AD) at dawn, in the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in Shorkot, District Jhang, Pakistan (then India). He belonged to the Awan tribe of the progeny of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Awans are Ali‟s children from wives other than Fatima bint Mohammad. Sultan Bahoo‟s father Bazayd Mohammad was a soldier by profession and a titleholder in Shah Jahan‟s army. His mother, Bibi Rasti was a Saint. She was spiritually informed of Sultan Bahoo‟s grandeur and spiritual status before his birth and according to his status of annihilation in Hoo1, his name Bahoo (one with Hoo ) was revealed to her. Sultan Bahoo says:

Explanation: Bahoo‟s mother named him Bahoo because Bahoo has always remained with Hoo . Sultan Bahoo was a Saint by birth. He remained engrossed in heavenly experiences and doubtless revelations from his early age. Sultan Bahoo gained his early mystic education from his mother. A non-Muslim would immediately recite shahada and accept Islam if his eyes fell upon the luminous face of Sultan Bahoo, such was the intensity of Divine theophanies radiating from him.

1

The Divine Essence

10 Sultan Bahoo states in his books, “I searched for a spiritual guide for thirty years but in vain”. It was because he already held such elevated levels of Faqr where access of anyone is extremely arduous. Sultan Bahoo relates one of his revelations in his books that one day, engrossed in Allah‟s vision, he was wandering in the suburbs of Shorkot when Ali ibn Abi Talib came and took him to the Mohammadan Assembly where the People of Cloak, the Rashidun Caliphs and Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani were also present. There, Sultan Bahoo took oath of allegiance at the sacred hand of Prophet Mohammad who entrusted him to Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani for further spiritual guidance. That is why Sultan Bahoo always refers Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani as his spiritual guide in his books. He says, “When al-Ghawth al-Azam Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani blessed me spiritually, I surpassed all the spiritual levels from eternal beginning till the eternal end.” Afterwards, following the orders of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani, Sultan Bahoo took oath of allegiance at the hand of Shaikh Abdul Rehman Jilani Dehlvi who entrusted the Divine Trust of Faqr to Sultan Bahoo in just a single meeting. The splendour of Sultan Bahoo is beyond anyone‟s speculation. He is blessed with the extremities of Faqr and stationed at the status of Sultan-ul-Faqr V. He says, “Since the eternal benevolence has graced me with grandeur, Prophet Mohammad sall’Allahu alayhi wa’alihi wasallam has ordered me to guide everyone, Muslim or non-Muslim, fortunate or unfortunate, dead or alive and he has titled me Mustafa Sani and Mujtaba Aakhir Zamani with his pearl divulging tongue.” (Risala Roohi Sharif) The spiritual order of Sultan Bahoo is Sarwari Qadri order. Qadri order reaches Prophet Mohammad through Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. There are two offshoots of Qadri order; Zahidi Qadri and Sarwari Qadri. Sultan Bahoo declares only Sarwari Qadri order the proper and real Qadri order. He says:

11  Qadri order has two offshoots; Sarwari Qadri and Zahidi Qadri. Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide has perfect command over contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. When he blesses the seeker with the spiritual education and Divine guidance through Ism-e-Allah Zaat, he grants him the status equal to his own on the very first day. The seeker becomes indifferent and independent of all needs, his attention remains focused only on the Truth. Hence gold and soil become equal for him. On the contrary, the follower of Zahidi Qadri order has to devote at least twelve years to very hard mystic struggles, so much so that his stomach remains empty. After twelve years he becomes eligible to be present before Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and attains the status of a majdhub devotee while the status of a Sarwari Qadri is that of a beloved devotee. (Kaleedul-Tauheed Kalan)

He describes the status of Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide and devotees in these words:  What is the initial level of Sarwari Qadri? It is that the perfect Qadri spiritual guide drowns the true seeker of Allah in Divine light of gnosis and grants him presence of Mohammadan Assembly just by his glance, the contemplation of Ism-eAllah Zaat, the invocation of shahada or by his spiritual attention. This is the first day lesson of Qadri followers. The guide who neither knows this lesson nor takes his disciples to the holy assembly is not the perfect Qadri spiritual guide. His state of ecstasy is just his vain thought. The true Qadri disciples are eternally drowned in the Divine light of gnosis and union with Allah. (Kaleed-ul-Tauheed Kalan) Sultan Bahoo himself holds this status. He says:

12 Meaning: For every true seeker of Allah I render my guidance. I can take him from the initial stage of the spiritual journey to the final and supreme level in just a moment. Come to me! Come to me! Come to me O seeker of Allah! I can take you to Allah on the very first day. Sultan Bahoo could not avail the opportunity to receive formal academic education because he was ever absorbed in the deep ocean of Divine Unity, even then he has authored 140 books. All of his books are in Persian except the collection of his poetry which is in the form of Punjabi quatrains. Sultan Bahoo‟s books are masterpiece of Divine knowledge. He proclaims that if anyone could not find a spiritual guide, his books will prove to be a medium for him to reach the perfect Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide who will take him to Allah. Sultan Bahoo‟s writing style is very simple and easy to understand even for a less educated person. However, at some places where he mentions the Divine secrets, his diction becomes complicated. Nevertheless, his writings are so persuasive and influential that they envelop the reader completely. If his books are read respectfully after ablution, an ocean of spiritual beneficence pours down to the reader. If the reader continues reading them with complete faith and true intention, he will be guided towards the perfect Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide who is the real spiritual successor of Sultan Bahoo in the contemporary age. Sultan Bahoo has not used the conventional terms of Sufism or Mysticism for his teachings, rather he calls them „Faqr‟. Faqr is the spiritual way which leads to the Divine knowledge and vision of Allah. In all his books, he lays emphasis on acquiring Faqr under the guidance of a Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide. He

14 declares the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat the key to ultimate sanctity and purgation of soul after which the soul is blessed with the vision of Allah and presence in the Mohammadan Assembly, which are the most elevated spiritual stations. Sultan Bahoo says in his books that despite all his efforts he could not find a truly capable seeker of Allah to whom he could entrust the Divine Trust of Faqr for the future guidance of seekers. Hence, on the 1st of Jumada ath-thani in 1102 AH (1st March, 1691 AD) he passed away without transferring the Trust to anyone. Afterwards Sultan Bahoo entrusted it spiritually to Syed Mohammad Abdullah Shah Madni Jilani. The shrine of Sultan Bahoo is in Jhang, Pakistan. His death anniversary is held on the first Thursday of Jumada ath-thani.2

TERMINOLOGY ALIF Alif (‫ )ا‬is the first letter of Arabic alphabets that gives the sound

of „A‟ and refers to the name Allah ‫ اللہ‬which also starts with Alif. ANNIHILATION Annihilation is translated from Arabic word Fana (‫)فنا‬. Annihilation and immortality are two stages that form a compound in spirituality, annihilation alone is incomplete. It is related with purification of the innerself which prevents man from travelling towards Allah. Annihilation has various stages and continues according to the spiritual capacity until nothing but Divine Essence adorns the man within. The three levels are annihilation in the spiritual guide, the Holy Prophet and Allah. APPREHENSIONS It is used for the mystical term khatarat (‫ )رطخات‬which are the thoughts that become an obstacle in the spiritual way. BELIEVER The Arabic word Mumin (‫ )مومن‬is translated as the believer or faithful. A believer can be distinguished from a Muslim as a Muslim accepts Islam verbally or just because he is born in a Muslim family. He follows Islam only outwardly but the believer reaches the essence of Islam following the spiritual path and worships Allah while beholding Him with perfect faith. Following verse explains the difference:

16

Say, “You have not (yet) believed. Rather say, „We have accepted Islam.‟ And the belief has not yet gone into your inwards.” (49:14) CONTEMPLATION Mystically, contemplation refers to spiritual practice of Tasawur (‫ )وصتر‬which is to contemplate the name of Allah

in a

particular manner after taking oath of allegiance at the hand of perfect spiritual guide. When the seeker elevates spiritually, his contemplation also elevates and becomes stronger. DAWAT Dawat (‫ )دعوة‬is a spiritual act to communicate with the souls of shrines to seek their help and beneficence. Its knowledge is called ilm-e-dawat. DEGREES OF CERTAINTY There are three degrees of certainty (yaqin ‫;)یقین‬ a) The knowledge of certainty is the first degree of certainty. It is the certainty gained by listening or reading about any fact or knowing about it from any other source. This degree is mystically called ilm al-yaqin (‫ )علم الیقین‬and is considered the weakest level of certainty. b) The eye of certainty is the second degree of certainty achieved by seeing or observing the fact whose knowledge was gained, it is called ayn al-yaqin (‫)عین الیقین‬.

17 c) The truth of certainty is the final and strongest level of certainty gained by personally experiencing the known and observed fact and reaching the core of its truth. This level is called haq al-yaqin (‫)حق الیقین‬. A simple example to explain the concept could be that knowing the fact that “fire burns” is ilm al-yaqin. Witnessing something being burnt is ayn al-yaqin. If one‟s finger is burnt and one experiences how fire burns then this is haq al-yaqin. The same is spirituality which is more experience than knowledge, though without a doubt knowledge plays an important part. DIVINE BEAUTY For the Divine attribute al-Jamal (‫ )امجك‬that includes all the attributes of Allah related with His beneficence, mercy, benevolence, compassion, kindness, forgiveness. DIVINE COMMAND ‘BE! AND IT BECOMES’ „Be! And it becomes‟ is the command of Allah and is mentioned several times in the Quran. Transliteration is Kun Fayakun ( ‫کن‬

The word or command spoken by Allah when He decides upon a thing is Kun ( ‫ )کن‬which means „Be!‟ and „it becomes‟ immediately which is for the Quranic phrase Fayakun (‫)فیکون‬. DIVINE FAVOUR For the Quranic term toufeeq (‫ )توفیق‬meaning the help and strength provided by Almighty Allah to the seeker to perform any task, to cross any spiritual station or pass a trial.

18 DIVINE LIGHT Arabic Nur (‫)نور‬, refers to the non-creation Divine power which enables the seeker to have vision of Allah. The Unknowable and Transcendent Divine Essence first of all manifested Himself in the form of Nur and that was the Nur of Mohammad which is the foundation of creation and is concealed in everything of the cosmos. Whoever reaches the Nur in his inner being by following the spiritual path, comes in light from darkness and finds the Reality. DIVINE LOVE OR LOVE FOR ALLAH The Persian mystic term Ishq (‫ )عشق‬is translated as the Divine love or love of Allah. It is not the love of Allah amongst other loves such as love of family, wealth, world, hereafter etc. rather it is specific to that intense love for Allah which dominates and removes the love for all other things except Him. Only the Divine love is true love. DIVINE MAJESTY For the Divine attribute al-Jalal (‫ )جلال‬which includes all the attributes of Allah related with His wrath, power, magnificence, might etc. DIVINE UNION For the Arabic term visal (‫)وصال‬, becoming one with Allah after annihilating in Him.

19 DIVINE VISION Beholding Allah with the inward eyes on spiritually reaching the realm of Divinity. It is from the Quranic word Liqa (‫ )لقا‬and in Persian it is Deedar-e-Elahi (‫)ددیا ِرایہٰل‬. ESOTERIC SELF For the Arabic term Batin (‫)باطن‬. The Mystics have revealed that the spiritual or esoteric being of humans has seven layers or parts; 1) The innerself (nafs ‫)نفس‬ 2) The inward (qalb ‫)قلب‬ 3) The soul (ruh ‫)روح‬ 4) The secret (sir’r ‫) ِس ّر‬ 5) The hidden (khafi ‫)خفی‬ ّٰ 6) The concealed (akhfa ‫)اخفی‬ 7) The core (Ana ‫ )انا‬which is the Divine Essence. The spiritual journey of human starts from nafs and accomplishes when he reaches Ana i.e. finds the Divine Essence within himself. The esoteric self also includes all the spiritual realms of Sufi cosmology. FAKIR Fakir (‫ )ریقف‬comes from the Arabic word Faqr (‫)فغر‬. He is the one who travels the path of Faqr.

20 FAQR Faqr (‫ )فغر‬is the path that leads the seeker of Allah to Divine closeness and vision. Prophet Mohammad was blessed with it on the night of Miraj and it is his Sunna. He said:

Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me. GNOSIS The Arabic word marifa (‫ )معرفۃ‬is translated as gnosis of Allah. It is the vastest term of mysticism that gives a new meaning at every spiritual level. Basically it refers to the knowledge and recognition of Allah which keeps on increasing as the lover of Allah progresses towards His closeness, hence reveals new dimensions at every stage. It includes vision of Allah, knowledge of His Essence and attributes, acquiring the attributes, annihilating in Him and finally becoming one with the Essence having His ultimate gnosis. Since Allah is Infinite, His marifa is also endless.

The invocation and contemplation of Allah‟s personal name ‫اللہ‬ are the foundation of marifa. It can be gained from the inner sources like the intuitive and inspired knowledge as well as outer sources like the spiritually effective Sufi teachings and the words of the perfect spiritual guide. HOO

Hoo (‫ )ھو‬is the Essence of Allah. It is used many times in the Quran for Allah:

َ ّ ّّٰ َّ )8<:55( َ‫ ُھوَ الل ُہ ال ِذ ْی لَٓا ِال ّٰ َہ ِالا ُھو‬

21

Meaning: He (Hoo

‫ ) ُھو‬is Allah, besides Whom there is no God.

(59:22)

IMMORTAL WITH ALLAH

Baqa Billah )‫)بقا باللہ‬: At this station the seeker even crosses the station of „annihilation in Allah‟. He gains immortality with Allah on being attributed with His attributes. At this level he is

called „the Mystic immortal with Allah (Arif Billah ‫‟)عارف باللہ‬ and is appointed on the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion as the perfect spiritual guide. INNERSELF Innerself refers to the Arabic word nafs (‫)نفس‬. The nafs has four layers or levels. Each layer annihilates into the next upon its purgation and the nafs elevates to next level. The first layer incites man to commit sin and is called an-nafs al-ammarah

ّ ‫ )نفس‬i.e. the inciting innerself. On purification, it elevates to (‫اماره‬ ِ

next layer which blames and repents on committing sin. It is called an-nafs al-lawwamah (‫نفس لوامہ‬ ِ ) i.e. the repenting innerself. The third layer inspires before committing sin and is called an-nafs al-mulhimma (‫نفس ملہمہ‬ ِ ) i.e. the inspiring innerself. Whereas, fourth layer is pure of sins and is at peace, it is called an-nafs almutma’innah ( ‫نفس مطمئنہ‬ ِ ) i.e. the peaceful innerself. INSPIRATION Ilham (‫)ااہلل‬: It descends upon the inward from the spiritual world and can be either Divine or satanic. The type of inspiration

22 depends upon the state of inward because if it is cleansed by the invocation and contemplation of the Divine names (Ism-e-Allah Zaat and Ism-e-Mohammad) then inspiration is pure. If inward is strayed from the right path and engulfed in sensual desires then it is from misleading sources. INVOCATION Invocation is translated from Arabic/Quranic term dhikr (‫)ذؽر‬ which means to remember Allah through repeated recitation of His name. In Sarwari Qadri order, invocation is done with breaths instead of tongue. ISM-E-ALLAH ZAAT

Ism-e-Allah Zaat (‫ )اللہ‬is translated literally as „the personal name of Allah‟. It represents the Essence and all the Divine attributes and is His most powerful name. Its invocation and contemplation is given by the perfect spiritual guide of Sarwari Qadri order after a disciple pledges allegiance. It is the quickest way of closeness to Allah because of its miraculous powers. ISM-E-AZAM Ism-e-Azam (‫اسم اعظم‬ ِ ) literally means the greatest name of Allah amongst His ninety nine beautiful names. It is the name which contains all His powers and whose recitation solves all the problems. Mystics confirm that Ism-e-Azam refers to Ism-e-Allah

Zaat ‫ اللہ‬because no other name of Allah is more powerful than

the Divine name ‫اللہ‬.

23 ISM-E-MOHAMMAD It means the name „Mohammad‟ ( ) of the Holy Prophet which is comprehensive of all his attributive names. In Sarwari Qadri order its contemplation is given for the spiritual elevation of the seekers. JAMIAT Jamiat (‫ )تیعمج‬is a mystic term having multiple meanings. It may refer to spiritual powers, stability, peace, accumulation or satisfaction. It is the highest spiritual level whereby all the preceding levels accumulate in the being of the seeker. MAJDHUB The Persian term Majdhub (‫ )ذجموب‬is used for the one who cannot tolerate the effects of theophanies and loses his senses. Hence due to the lost and absorbed state, he cannot follow sharia properly neither can progress on the spiritual journey. The disciples of the perfect and accomplished spiritual guide of Sarwari Qadri order never become majdhub. MEDITATION Meditation stands for the Arabic word muraqaba (‫)مراقبہ‬. Muraqaba comes from raqibun which means the watchful, careful observer, vigilant, wakeful. Ar-Raqib is one of the beautiful names of Allah which means the One Who is Ever Watchful. Literally muraqaba means to watch over, to take care of or to keep an eye. Mystically it is to prevent the inward from everything other than Allah by focusing entire attention upon Ism-e-Allah Zaat.

24 MIRAJ Arabic word Miraj (‫ )معراج‬means ascension to Allah. The Holy Prophet is blessed with the ultimate Miraj where he beheld Allah directly without any veil and enjoyed absolute union. Through his mediation, the true seekers of Allah are also blessed with Miraj according to their respective levels. MOHAMMADAN ASSEMBLY One of the most elevated stages of Faqr is presence in the Mohammadan Assembly which is beyond words. In fact it is the truth of certainty and is gained by the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat provided it is granted by the perfect and accomplished spiritual guide. In his writings Sultan Bahoo condemns those who do not believe in eternal existence of Prophet Mohammad. MYSTIC Mystic, for the Arabic word Arif (‫)عارف‬, is the one who beholds, knows and remains with Allah and has attained presence in the Mohammadan Assembly. OATH OF ALLEGIANCE Oath of allegiance refers to mystic term al-bayah (‫)بیعت‬. When a person takes al-bayah to the spiritual guide, he becomes disciple and hands over himself to his spiritual guide in exchange of spiritual guidance. This, in fact, is a pact between Allah and His slave through the medium of spiritual guide. It eternally bonds the spiritual guide with the disciple.

25 OBSESSION In Arabic khurtum )‫ )ؼرطوم‬which literally means the intoxicating wine of grapes but in Faqr it is a thought or belief against sharia, mysticism or Faqr which occupies the mind in such a way that terminates all the moral and spiritual values. Sharia and Faqr have their respective principles which take the seeker to destination. If anything against these principles dominates a person it is called „obsession‟. ONENESS OF ALLAH Refers to the basic pillar of Islam Tauheed (‫)توحید‬. Believing in it is the prerequisite to enter Islam. The shahada „There is no God but Allah‟ is not only the verbal proclamation of Oneness of Allah but a believer‟s whole life revolves around it. Its profundity is only perceived by the Mystics, that is why the Holy Prophet said:

ُ َ ْ َ ْ َ ّّٰ َ َ َ ّّٰ َ ّ ‫ قائِلوْ َن لَٓا ِال ّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ ُم َح ّم ٌد ّر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ ک ِثی ًرا ّو ُمخ ِل ُصوْ َن ق ِل ْیلًا‬

Meaning: There are many who recite shahada “There is no God but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah” verbally but only a few say it sincerely. For the Mystics Oneness means that only Allah exists and none else. They are annihilated in Oneness to become one with Him and see Oneness of Allah everywhere. PERSUASION Talqeen )‫)نیقلت‬: The exoteric scholars guide people through religious education, discussions and arguments. However in Faqr the perfect spiritual guide enlightens and enlivens the inward of the seeker by his spiritual glance in accordance to the Sunna of the Holy Prophet and this is called „persuasion‟. Perfect spiritual

26 guide purifies the seekers by his spiritual glance and guides towards straight path by persuasion as well as with exhortation. Difference between education and persuasion is that the former is imparted usually through books and lectures while the latter is to inspire the Divine knowledge into the inward. Both education and persuasion to a seeker are responsibilities of the perfect spiritual guide. PRESENCE „Divine presence‟ is translation of mystic term Huzoori (‫)حضوری‬. It is the presence of soul and inward of the seeker before Allah specifically during prayers and generally all the time. Divine presence is gained by the invocation and contemplation of Ism-eAllah Zaat. QUDSI HADITH Words of Allah stated by the Holy Prophet. REFLECTION Refers to the mystic term fikr (‫)رکف‬. It is the power of thought and cognition which is one of the means to obtain the gnosis of Allah. SATANIC WHISPERER

ّ َ ) is a hidden attacker as Satanic whisperer (khannas ‫خاس‬ mentioned in sura an-Nas. It refers to Satan in the form of men or jinn who whisper evil suggestions in the inward of seeker of Allah.

27 SEPARATION AND ISOLATION The Arabic mystic term tajrid (‫ )تجرید‬is referred to as „separation‟. This mystic level is gained after complete inner detachment from everyone other than Allah. The Arabic mystic term tafrid (‫ )تعرید‬is referred to as „isolation‟. This mystic level is attained by negating one‟s own self. Tajrid and tafrid are two basic levels before reaching the level of Tauheed i.e. Oneness. SHARIA Sharia (‫ )شریعۃ‬is the set of Islamic laws derived from the religious percepts of Islam particularly the Quran and Hadith. SPIRITUAL ATTENTION Refers to the mystic term tawajjuh (‫ )توجہ‬i.e. the powerful attention of spiritual guide towards his disciples, through which he cleanses their inwards, solves their inner problems, teaches them wisdom and elevates them spiritually by making them experience different spiritual states. SPIRITUAL FRENZY The Persian mystic term masti (‫ )یتسم‬is translated as the spiritual frenzy. It is the state of soul when it is deeply immersed in the intense love of Beloved by the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat or on beholding the Beloved. The lover remembers none but the Beloved.

28 SPIRITUAL GUIDE Spiritual guide is English term for the Arabic word Murshid (‫)مرشد‬. Murshid is Quranic term and is also one of the attributive names of Allah. Murshid is not only the spiritual guide of the seekers of Allah but also their spiritual doctor who treats their inner diseases and trains them inwardly as well as outwardly as a spiritual instructor. No one has ever reached Allah without the guidance of a perfect Murshid. SPIRITUAL SIGHT/GLANCE Persian word nazar (‫ )رظن‬is translated as the spiritual sight while the Sufi term nigah (‫ )اگنہ‬as the spiritual glance. It is specific for the effective sight and glance of the perfect spiritual guide with which he cleanses and purifies the soul and inward of his disciples as well as imparts the inner knowledge and elevates them spiritually. It is not bounded by time and space. If the spiritual guide is perfect, his sight can affect his disciples wherever they are. SPIRITUAL STATE Refers to mystic term haal (‫)حال‬, (plural ahwal), the esoteric states temporarily experienced by the seeker due to the attention of spiritual guide or upon contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. SPIRITUAL STATE OF CONTRACTION Spiritual contraction is translated from the Arabic word qabd (‫)قبض‬. It is the state of soul which results from the theophany of Allah‟s majestic name Al-Qabid (‫ )القابض‬meaning „The Constrictor‟. When the seeker experiences this state, his inward and soul are firmly gripped and the wrathful effects of the theophanies burn a

29 veil between him and Allah. This state is followed by the state of spiritual expansion. SPIRITUAL STATE OF EXPANSION Spiritual expansion is translated from the Arabic word bast (‫)بسط‬. It is the state of soul which results from the theophany of Allah‟s beautiful name Al-Basit (‫ )الباسط‬meaning „The Expander‟. When the seeker experiences this state, his soul is engulfed with ineffable joy. SPIRITUAL STATES OF INTOXICATION AND SOBRIETY Spiritual intoxication is translated from mystic term sukr (‫)سؾر‬. It is the state of absence of self-awareness brought about through a powerful spiritual influence such as immersion in the invocation of Allah, attention of the perfect spiritual guide, intense emotions of love for the Beloved. Literally, sobriety is the translation for Arabic word sahw (‫)صحو‬. Mystically, it is the state of soul experienced on returning from the state of spiritual intoxication. It is the vigilant state in which the seeker consciously understands and cognates whatever he experienced and gained during the state of spiritual intoxication. STATION OF NO STATION Refers to the Persian term La-Makan (‫ )لامکان‬where nothing but Allah exists. STATIONS OR LEVELS OF SPIRITUALITY The four stations or levels are:

30 STATION OF SHARIA: Station of sharia (‫ )شریعۃ‬is in the physical world from where the seeker‟s soul starts its journey following the Islamic law purely for the sake of Allah and with the special help of the spiritual guide who develops the seeker‟s insight. STATION OF MYSTICISM: The second station of soul's ascension is called tariqa (‫ )طریقۃ‬and it is in the angelic realm. The soul is purified by the perfect spiritual guide and travels towards the next station. STATION OF REALITY: It is the third station in ascending order of the soul‟s journey of Faqr after being purified and covering the preceding two stations, sharia and mysticism, by the guidance of perfect spiritual guide. It is in the realm of power and is called haqiqa (‫)حقیقۃ‬. STATION OF GNOSIS: It is the fourth station of soul‟s ascension and is called marifa (‫)معرفۃ‬. This station is in the realm of Divinity, the true homeland of the soul from where it progresses towards Divine Unity by the total attention of the spiritual guide. The Holy Prophet said about these four levels, “My words are sharia, my actions are mysticism (tariqa), my inward states are reality (haqiqa) and my secrets are the gnosis (marifa).” TRUST UPON ALLAH Arabic word Tawakkal (‫ )توکل‬is translated as trust upon Allah. Tawakkal is specific for Allah. It is to trust only upon Allah in all matters and in all states.

31 UNVEILING Arabic kashf (‫)کشف‬, manifestation of the hidden upon the seeker. WAHAM Waham (‫ )وھم‬is a mystic term which refers to the spiritual communication or conversation with Allah in the esoteric self whereby the seeker is truly guided by Allah in different matters.

Blessings and salutations upon the Last Prophet Mohammad, his sacred Progeny, Companions and the People of Cloak.

In this book I have discussed a few stations related to unveiling, miracles, spiritual ranks, verifications, observations, theophanies of Divine Essence, attributes and Oneness. It also discusses the initial, middle and final levels of a Fakir which correspond to purification of the innerself (an-nafs) that grants the knowledge of certainty, purgation of the inward that raises to the level of eye of certainty, enlightenment of the soul that elevates to the truth of certainty, ultimately the Fakir is annihilated in Allah on the enlightenment of secret (sir,r the inner part) and becomes immortal with Him. These are the secrets of chosen ones. In this book I have also discussed the states of inspiration, waham, reasoning, invocation, reflection, closeness and union with Allah, spiritual frenzy, spiritual states, Divine presence and accountability along with all the major and minor, higher and lower levels. I have also warned about the deceits, polytheism, infidelity, sensual apprehensions and satanic evils which a seeker may encounter during the spiritual states of contraction,

33 expansion, absorption, observation, amazement, admonishment, passion, dawat and other stations of the spiritual path. These may turn the seeker a majdhub. A seeker attains Divine union after crossing the stations of sharia, mysticism (tariqa), reality (haqiqa) and gnosis (marifa). He also has to cross the states of intoxication and sobriety. The spiritual flight through the medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat which takes to the stations of annihilation in Allah, annihilation in the Holy Prophet, annihilation in Hoo, annihilation in Faqr and annihilation in the spiritual guide is also discussed in this book along with the facts about the spiritual guide, seeker, disciple, contemplation and authority. All these are discussed in compliance to the verses of Quran, Hadiths and sacred sharia which is the Mohammadan way. Each fact is verified and there is no lie or disparity in it. Bahoo, the writer of the book, has always been with Hoo at the station of no station and brings out pearls of realities from there like a diver as he is the knower of Divine secrets and knowledge. He is the son of Mohammad Bazayd and belongs to the Awan tribe in the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb who is a just ruler and shelter for his subject as well as a man of inward, ascetic and a worshipper. This book has been titled Nur-ul-Huda Khurd.

36 Explanation: You must remain in the company of Dervish (the perfect spiritual guide) as much as possible. Since he is a Divine lover, his company will bless your inward with Divine love as well.

Meaning: And peace be upon him who follows guidance! (20:47)

‫جنپ ابب اتس جنپ جنگ انی اتکب‬ ٰ‫رہ ہک انی را وخادن والص دش انجب‬ Explanation: This book has five chapters which are like five Divine treasures. Whoever reads this book, will attain union with Allah. This book is meant to guide the travellers of the spiritual path so that they may not be misled or commit mistakes. If the esoteric self did not have the proof of the metaphorical presence of the Holy Prophet (in every era), all the travellers of spiritual path would have turned infidel. The Holy Prophet said:

ُ َ َّ َ ‫ ک ّ ُل بَا ِط ٍن ُمخال ٌِف ل ِظا ِھرِ ف ُہوَ بَا ِط ٌل‬

Meaning: The esoteric self that is opposite to the exoteric self is false.

Meaning: Every way that is rejected by sharia is infidelity. This book is a touchstone for the scholars, Fakirs, Dervishes, Shaikhs, perfect and imperfect spiritual guides as well as strong and weak seekers. It describes about each of them separately. O man of Divine favour! May Truth be your companion. You must know that there are two types of Fakirs. One are men of struggles and other are men of authority. Man of struggle is the

37 one who stays awake at night for devotions and keeps fasts in the day. If his struggles do not reveal upon him the secrets of Divinity day by day, grant him observation of Hoo at the station of no station, bless him with the company of souls of all the Prophets, Sufis, Saints, true believers and Muslims neither ennoble him with ranks of Ghawth and Qutb elevating him to high spiritual levels then such struggles are just a brigand. It is confirmed that the seeker‟s struggles are for the sake of earning respect and honour and he is wandering in the jungle of depravity. Listen O ascetic! You are toiling to get a place in paradise but remember that by excessive devotions the innerself becomes haughtier. The Fakir annihilated in Allah must have two things; firstly closeness and union of Allah, secondly the power to conquer the souls by reciting dawat. Neither a Fakir has any desires nor does he fear from anyone.

Explanation: Ism-e-Allah Zaat has taken me to the Divine presence and all my problems are resolved by the help of souls of sacred shrines. The spiritual guide who is unaccomplished inwardly, is imperfect. The Holy Prophet said:

ُُ ُ ُ َّ َ َ =ِ ‫لسکوْة َػ َر ٌام َعلّٰی قلوْ ِب الْا ْول َِیٓا‬ ‫ ا‬

Meaning: Stagnation is forbidden on the inwards of Saints. Allah says:

Meaning: Surely the most honourable amongst you in the sight of Allah is he who fears Allah the most. (49:13)

38 Secondly, Fakir who is man of authority is the one who has the grandeur that when he gives the Divine command „Be‟ to anything, it immediately becomes i.e. whatever he says is done by the grace of Allah. The Holy Prophet said:

ُ ‫ ل َِس‬ ّ ‫ان ال ْ ُف َغ َر> ِ= َس ْی ُف‬ ‫الرَ ْح ّٰم ِن‬ Meaning: The tongue of Fakirs is the sword of the most Compassionate. Allah says:

Meaning: Every moment, His glory manifests anew. (55:29) Such is their glory! A single word of man of authority Fakir is far better than forty days seclusion and mystic struggle. The perfect and accomplished spiritual guide is the Mystic who is annihilated in Allah and immortal with Him. He may keep the seeker of Allah involved in mystic endeavours for years or may bless him with Divine union in a blink of an eye if decides to bestow the seeker with his beneficence and grace. Whosoever he blesses with grace, grants him a status equal to his own with just a single glance. Listen! The Divine falcons can never stay with flies and hens. Mystic endeavours are useful only if they result in spiritual observations otherwise are useless. True mystic endeavour is that done by the order and permission of the spiritual guide. It removes every thought other than Allah and fulfils all the desires. Hence for the men of Allah eating is like an endeavour and sleeping means engrossing in the state of Divine presence which blesses them with spiritual observations. Endeavours are of two kinds: one is for the annihilation of innerself while the other is for the sake of earning name and fame. The second kind is aimed at inclining the creation towards oneself and is full of desires of the innerself. Such people have frenzy of physical beauty, verbosity, worldly love, music and

39 singing. They are beardless and show off their craziness wandering all around barefooted with bare head and torn clothes crying in front of everyone. Usually they drink wine and renounce the salat. All these are signs of imperfect spiritual guide and seeker. True seeker of Allah must have these qualities; he should be a hafiz of Quran, accomplished in virtuosity, highly courageous, conversant in all kinds of knowledge and must be a man of wisdom otherwise it is not at all difficult to turn crazy thousands of ignorant by a single glance. A seeker of knowledge cannot be considered a seeker of Allah unless he is tested on these bases and if he fulfils these conditions then it is better for him than all his matters. Hadiths:

Meaning: An ignorant is like insect of muck that ruins himself by his own deeds.

Meaning: Even a worthless thing has some worth but an ignorant is utterly worthless. Allah appreciates the knowledgeable ones in these words:

ۡ ۡ ُ ّّٰ َ )3:7( ‫الر ِسخوۡ َن فِی ال ِعلم‬ ‫ و‬

Meaning: And those who are perfectly firm in knowledge. (3:7)

Meaning: Allah will raise those in ranks who are given knowledge. (58:11)

Hadith:

Meaning: Life of a human is due to the soul, life of the soul is due to wisdom and life of wisdom is due to knowledge.

40 If knowledge affects the innerself, it becomes dangerous like a snake and if it descends on the soul, it is beneficent like a friend. True scholar is the one who distinguishes truth from falsehood. The Holy Prophet said:

ْ ُ َ َ ‫ خذ َما َصفا َو َد ْع َما ک َد َر‬

Meaning: Take what is pure and leave the impure. Do you know what is knowledge? It is a dear friend. The ascetic without knowledge is Satan. Knowledge is soul‟s companion. The ascetic without knowledge is a devil. Hadith:

Meaning: One who adopts asceticism without knowledge eventually turns into a devil or dies as infidel. The so-called Fakir who does not act on his knowledge is Satan. The Holy Prophet said:

ّّٰ َ َ َ ّ ‫ ل َ ْم یَتخذ اللہُ َول ًِیا َجا ِھلًا‬

Meaning: Allah does not make any ignorant His friend. Knowledge is exactness and exactness means wisdom. Whoever is oblivious of Allah and does not fear from Him, remains deadhearted and black inwardly even if acquires the entire knowledge. He is a miser and an unwise seeker of the world who will be disgraced being away from Allah.

41 Explanation: Accomplish any knowledge you so desire through the knowledge of Ism-e-Allah Zaat because it is Ism-e-Allah Zaat which will remain with you eternally. Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:

ۡ‫ َو ِا َذا َذؽ َ ۡر تَنِ ۡی َش َؾ ۡرتَنِ ۡی َو ِا َذا ن َ ِس ۡی َتنِیۡ کَ َع ۡرتَنِی‬

Meaning: When you invoke Me, you are in fact grateful to Me and when you forget Me you become infidel.

Explanation: When one becomes oblivious to Allah even for a moment, he turns infidel though his infidelity is hidden. Hadith:

Meaning: There are two kinds of knowledge; the knowledge related to outward matters (which is gained through outward sources) and the inspired knowledge (which is revealed by Allah). Perfect spiritual guide is the one who reveals four kinds of knowledge upon the seeker by his spiritual sight in the very beginning just as Allah revealed upon Prophet Adam. Allah says:

Meaning: And Allah taught Adam all the (Divine) names. (2:31) When the knowledge of totality is revealed upon the seeker, he spontaneously comes to know everything. The four kinds of knowledge are; knowledge of fractionation, knowledge of efficacy, knowledge of alchemy and knowledge of exegesis.

42

‫چیہ یملع رتہب از ریسفت تسین‬ ٰ‫چیہ ریسفتی رتہب از اتریث تسین‬ Explanation: No knowledge is better than the knowledge of exegesis. No exegesis is useful without spiritual efficacy. When (the invocation of) Ism-e-Allah Zaat continues in the existence of the seeker, he becomes a Mystic. The Holy Prophet said:

َ َ ّٰ ۡ ّّٰ َ =ٌ ‫ َم ْن ع َر َف الل َہ ل َا یَخفی َعل ۡی ِہ ش ۡی‬

Meaning: Nothing remains hidden from the one who recognizes Allah. Hence nothing is concealed from the Mystic immortal with Allah whether it is in the earth or the skies. This is the Mohammadan honour. Do not consider it wrong and turn yourself towards Allah, as is the verse of Quran:

َ َ ۡۤ َ ً َ َ ۡ ۡ ۡ َّ َ َ َ ۡ َّ َ ۡ َ ُ ۡ َّ َ ۡ ّ ‫الس ّٰم ّٰو ِة َو الۡا ۡرض َح ِن ۡیفا ّو َما انا ِم َن المُض ِرک ِی َن‬ ‫ ِانِی وجہت وج ِھی ل ِل ِذی فطر‬ )6:79(

Meaning: I have indeed turned my face single-mindedly towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth beyond compare and I am not from amongst the polytheists. (6:79) Even if the seeker of Allah does not have outward knowledge, he is superior to the scholars. The Holy Prophet said:

ََ ‫ ا ّد ۡبنِ ۡی َرب ِّ ۡی‬ Meaning: I am taught obedience by my Lord. The Holy Prophet meant to say that Allah Himself taught him everything.

43

َ ّّٰ َ ّ ُ َّ َ َ ‫ الل ُہ ّم َص ِ ّل َعل ّٰی َس ّی ِدنا ُم َح ّم ٍد ِنالن ِب ِّی ال ۡام ِ ِّی‬ Meaning: Peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad who was not taught (by anyone but Allah). Allah says:

Meaning: I know that which you do not know. (2:30) When the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat continues and sustains in the seeker‟s existence, first of all the inspirational knowledge is revealed upon him. Allah says:

Meaning: And (We) had taught him inspired knowledge. (18:65) The inspired knowledge is taught by the benediction of Ism-eAllah Zaat which is Ism-e-Azam, the greatest name of Allah.

Meaning: (O Beloved!) Read with the name of your Lord, Who has created (everything). He created man from a hanging mass (clinging) like a leech (to the mother‟s womb). (96:1-2)

Meaning: The most Compassionate (is He). Who (Himself) taught the Quran (to the Holy Prophet). He is the One Who created man. He alone taught him the art of expression and communication. (55:1-4) True spiritual guide is the one who takes the seeker to the Mohammadan Assemble through the medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat or the esoteric way or by the blessed company of Saints in shrines without involving him in invocations, reflections, mystic struggles or endeavours. Thus ennobles him in the court of the

44 Holy Prophet and absolves him of all problems by his grace. The Holy Prophet said:

َّ َّ َ َ ْ َ ََ ْ ‫ ِا ّن الش ْی ّٰط َن لَا یَ َتمَث ُل ب ِ ْی َم ْن َر?ن ِ ْی فق ْد َر? ال َح ّق‬ Meaning: Satan cannot take my form, whoever beheld me in fact beheld the Reality Whoever doubts the eternal life of the Holy Prophet, turns infidel. I seek refuge with Allah from this. Spiritual guide is the one who makes the seeker follow every step of the Holy Prophet and takes him to his presence. You must not raise objections upon the one who has reached the Holy Prophet. It is a great Sunna and the actual straight path. Unless the seeker observes the Mohammadan Assembly, his faith in it is not established. Hadith:

َْ ‫ المُرِیْ ُد لَا یُرِیْ ُد‬ Meaning: True disciple has no desires. If the seeker desires his soul to reach the station of Divine Oneness but the guide seeks the world and has impure innerself then they cannot stay in each other‟s company. The perfect spiritual guide represents the Holy Prophet while the imperfect spiritual guide is like Satan. The spiritual guide who does not represent the Holy Prophet, is not eligible to guide on the Divine path. You must not waste your life with such a guide as he is like a brigand rather worse.

Explanation: First you must gain knowledge then travel the path to Allah. The ignorant have no place near Allah Almighty.

45

‫ملع قح ونر اتس رونش لثم او اونار تسین‬ ‫ملع ابدی ابلمع یب لمع زج رخ ابر تسین‬ Explanation: Knowledge of Truth is the light brighter than all lights. However knowledge must be acted upon otherwise it is just like a burden on the beast. Allah says:

َ َ ۡ َ َ )92:۵ ( ‫ کمَث ِل ال ِحمَارِ یَ ۡح ِم ُل ا ۡسف ًارا‬ Meaning: They are like the donkey loaded with heavy books on its back. (62:5) However the path to Allah is neither related to knowledge nor to ignorance. It is related to love and sincerity only. Due to it the dog of people of cave was included among the lovers. Had it been related to knowledge, Balam Baoor3 would not have been rejected by Allah and if it was related to devotions, Satan would not have been cursed. One who holds both the worlds in his fist, does not need to read or write.

‫ملع وحن و َصَٰف وخاین ہق وخاین ای اوك‬ ‫زج واصك قح اعتٰیل دور امین ای وہك‬ Explanation: Whether you study the knowledge of grammar or fiqh and law, without the union of Allah you will remain ignorant. There are countless kinds of knowledge and the people of devotions are also numerous. True worshippers of Allah are a

3

A scholar mentioned in sura al-Ar’af, verses 175-176. He was rejected by Allah due to his arrogance, lust and greed.

46 few as everyone worships his innerself. O son of Adam! You must not be inferior to a dog. Allah says:

Meaning: And We have indeed honoured the children of Adam. (17:70)

If one serves the immortal Mystic Fakir for seven days with true faith in him then it is better than the devotions of seventy years. It is because one acquires two stations from the Fakir; station of true devotion for which man is created and the station of Divine gnosis. My words are based on the Quran while the words of ignorant and infidels are satanic. Know that the seeker of knowledge remains imprisoned by his knowledge even if he is an excellent exegete. Satan was not an ignorant. The scholar who acts upon his knowledge never turns evil. The Arabic word for knowledge is transliterated as Ilm which has three alphabets. Arabic word for clemency is transliterated as Hlm which also has three alphabets. Similarly the transliterated word for „act‟ is Aml which has three alphabets as well. These nine alphabets bless the existence with praiseworthy attributes and enlighten the seeker with the light of faith. This way of Mohammadan Faqr never opens for a seeker without the Fakir having all praiseworthy attributes. Hadith:

Meaning: Knowledge is the thickest veil (that keeps away) from Allah.

Explanation: The esoteric knowledge is like butter while the exoteric knowledge is like milk. Butter cannot be produced

47 without milk, likewise no one can gain eminence without following a spiritual guide. When a seeker of Allah becomes one with Him, duality ends and all the veils are lifted hence the seeker is blessed with Mohammadan Faqr which is his pride. There are six kinds of Fakirs; 1- The Fakir who is man of favour as the verse says:

َ ّّٰ َ ّ ۡۤ )44:;;( ‫ َو َما توۡفِ ۡی ِق ۡی ِالا ِبالل ِہ‬

Meaning: And I am favoured by none but Allah. (11:88) 2- The Fakir who is man of mysticism 3- The Fakir who is man of verification 4- The pseudo fakir 5- The so-called fakir who creates discrimination 6- The veritable Fakir who is the Sultan of Faqr No one knows the reality of veritable Fakirs except the Holy Prophet. Whosoever reaches their reality, it is only by their company and beneficence. One who goes against them remains worried in both the worlds. The grandeur of Fakir in both the worlds is like a gem in ring. The reality of Fakir can only be perceived by the spiritually enlightened ones not by the inward blinds. Hadith:

Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me One who has even a minute love for the world in his inward can never achieve the Truth neither can he attain Divine union. Whoever claims that he has been blessed with both the world and the faith is wrong. The Holy Prophet said:

‫رما ز ریپ رطتقی یتحیصن اید اتس‬ ٰ‫ہک ریغ اید دخا رہ ہچ تسہ ربابد اتس‬ Explanation: I remember the advice of my spiritual guide that everything except the remembrance of Allah is a total waste.

Meaning: Life of this world is like a sleep and its pleasures are like wet dreams.

CHAPTER 1

DISCUSSION ABOUT PURE INWARD, TRUE RELIGION AND STRAIGHT PATH WHICH IS FOLLOWING THE MOHAMMADAN SHARIA Know that inward is like a home and the invocation of Allah is like an angel while the apprehensions and worldly love are like dog. Angels do not visit the home where dog is kept. The Holy Prophet said:

َُ ْ ُ َْْ ‫ ل َا یَ ْدخ ِل ا لمَل ِئکۃ ف ِ ْی بَ ْی ِت فِ ْی ِہ الکل ِب‬

Meaning: Angels do not enter the house where a dog is kept.

Explanation: Pure inward is the home of Divine. Your inward is the home of devil, how can you call it pure inward! Hadith:

Meaning: The world is carrion and its seekers are dogs. The carrion-eaters and dogs are not capable of inward invocation. The Holy Prophet said:

َ َ َ َّ ُّ َ ْ َ َّ ٌ َ ٌ َ ُ ْ ّ َ ‫ان طا ِھ ٍر‬ ٍ ‫ ا ل ِذؽر شئ طا ِھر لایست ِغر ِالا ِبمک‬

50 Meaning: Invocation of Allah is pure, hence does not sustain but in the pure and holy existence.

‫بعکٴ امظع اتس نکب اخا از ام‬ ٰ ‫ِدك‬ ‫گ‬ ‫تیب ادقملس اتس نکم اجی بَام‬ Explanation: Inward is the greatest Kaaba, vacant it from the idols (of worldly love and wishes). It is the sacred home of Allah, do not make it an idol shop. You must know that many people claim to be inward invokers. They consider their physical heart as their inward and shake it up and down while holding breath. They claim it invocation of holding breath but they are wrong. Such invocation is useless even if the heart starts shaking and along with it every organ rather each and every cell of the body loudly invokes the name of Allah. This is not the inward invocation and the shaking is due to the effect of invocation. Even if it continues forever, it will not grant spiritual observations and the invoker will remain unaccomplished. Recognizing the inward is not easy. Inward is a great kingdom which has observations of Divine secrets. These secrets cannot be gained unless the inward is occupied with love and passion for Allah and the seeker beholds Him in it as the Holy Prophet said:

ْ‫ َو َر?َیْ ُت ف ْی َق ْل ِب ْی َربّی‬ ِ ِ

Meaning: I viewed my Lord in my inward. It is the station of:

ّّٰ َ َ ّ )5;:63( ‫ ِان ِ ْیٓ انا الل ُہ‬

Meaning: Verily I am Allah. (28:30) If the invocation does not grant gnosis of Divine union, inner closeness, enlightened physical and spiritual sight, perpetual

51 observation of theophanies of Divine Essence and presence, it cannot be called inward invocation. Moreover it must make the invoker hear the inspiration of:

ََ َْ )5<:66( ‫ لَا تخ ْف َو لَا تط َز ْن‬ Meaning: Do not feel afraid or grieved. (29:33) It should also take the invoker to Allah crossing ten lakh seventy seven thousand stations which all are present in the inward rather it is vaster than the fourteen spheres. The inward invocation bestows the treasures of Divine lights and makes the physical and spiritual sight one and the same.

‫قلخ را اطتع وبد از بسک نت‬ ‫اعرافم را رتک نت اطتع وبد‬ Explanation: Common people perform devotions by their physical body while the Mystics‟ devotion is to relinquish their physical existence. As outward devotions are performed by physical organs hence they do not affect the inward. O weakling! Make efforts to rise to the status of a strong man. Who is a weakling and who is a strong man? Understand that weakling is the one who enters the arena of mystic endeavours with all weapons and fights with the enemies of Allah that is Satan and innerself. Whereas the latter kills them by the power of inward with one strike of the sword of Oneness without indulging in endeavours hence becomes free of the fight. No doubt perseverance is better than miracles and high ranks. People often say that melody enhances the inward invocation. They are liars who do not seek the Truth. Their inward is seized and deprived of gnosis and their desire is unrighteous. They are heretics who are away from Allah, neither they have any beginning nor end. This is because music, songs and dance are against the sacred Mohammadan sharia. The

52 immortal Mystic who is a man of inward is so much engrossed in the unveiled observation of Allah that he does not like any voice even if it is as sweet as the voice of Prophet David (Dawood). Music is an outward thing while inward is related to the esoteric self. Music is infidelity because it begun as a ritual of infidels who sing in front of idols. Music finally leads to Antichrist.

‫رگ رسود رب دتل تسہ رس سفن و وہا‬ ‫انی وہا را ای ربدار ٰیک دخا دارد روا‬ Explanation: If you wish to listen to music then it is just the desire of your innerself. O brother! How can such desires be justified in the court of Allah. Keep in mind that the compassion of Allah showers while reciting the Quran, invocation of Allah‟s name, calling azan, offering salat and keeping fast. On the contrary, curse of Allah descends while listening to music, committing heresy, infidelity, adultery, drinking wine, gambling and other forbidden acts. Company of cursed ones never suits to the people of compassion. Whatever I say is not out of jealousy or malice rather after calculations and according to the Mohammadan sharia. Hadith:

Meaning: One who abstains from saying the truth is a dumb Satan. When an admirer of physical beauty is engaged in watching it, he is deprived of beholding the Divine beauty and its union. He is far from the station of truth of certainty and is still imperfect and unaccomplished because he is indulged in self-conceit and desires of innerself. Which is the way to enter the kingdom of inward? Who is the guide on this way? Firstly it is the medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat, secondly the sight of spiritual guide who is the immortal Mystic. By the contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and the sight of spiritual guide who is annihilated in Allah,

53 nothing remains hidden from the seeker whether the levels of acquiring Divine attributes or the stations of closeness to the Essence. Who is an immortal Mystic i.e. what do we mean by the perfect spiritual guide? He is the one who prevents the seeker from disobeying Allah, esoterically as well as exoterically.

Meaning: The spiritual guide enlivens the Sunna and ends heresy. He gives life to the inward and death to the innerself. Everything is under his authority. Thus the man of inward does not need to invoke or reflect. One who is blessed with Divine presence and light is happy forever as he has replete inward and is forgiven. These are the levels of Fakir who is master of the worlds. His rank cannot be perceived by intellect or reached by planning. He is empowered with:

َ َ ُ ّّٰ َ )5:53(﴾﴿ ‫ ِا ّن الل َہ َعلّٰی ک ِ ّل ش ۡی ٍ= ق ِدیۡ ٌر‬

Meaning: Surely Allah is All-Powerful to do everything. (2:20) Holding the breath while invocation is a ritual of infidels, one should repent from their rituals thousand times. This is the way of blindfolded cattle which keeps one away from the actual inward invocation of Allah. The seekers of world are wretched, they must not be trusted. It is established and verified in their way that keeping supererogatory fasts is just saving bread, offering supererogatory salat is the job of widows and going for hajj is like sight-seeing while job of men is to control the inward. My reply to them is that they have no inward. They are wretched, oblivious and embarrassed. Controlling the inward is very tough, keeping supererogatory fasts purify the soul, offering supererogatory salat pleases Allah and going for hajj is safety of faith. Allah says:

54

ً َ َ َََ ۡ َ َ (3:97) ‫ان ّٰا ِمنا‬ ‫ و من دخلہ ک‬ Meaning: Whoever enters it, is safe. (3:97) Whoever stops from worshipping Allah, is surely Satan. Fakir Bahoo says that controlling the inward is the job of imperfects, involving in miracles and unveiling is the job of unaccomplished ones while the job of men is to annihilate themselves and become one with the Essence. Inward is actually the (home of) Essence and the men of inward never seek anything but the Essence. The Holy Prophet said:

َ َ ْ َ ّّٰ ّّٰ َ ّ َ َْ ْ َ َ َ ‫ غ ِمض َع ْینک ا ْس ِمع ف ِیْ قل ِبک یَا َع ِل ّیُ لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ ُم َح ّم ٌد ّر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ‬ َ Meaning: O Ali! Close your eyes and listen in your inward ‫لٓا ِال ّٰ َہ‬ َ َ ّّٰ ّّٰ َ ّ ‫( ِالا الل ُہ ُم َح ّم ٌد ّر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ‬There is no God but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah). Heart is also a piece of flesh just like the tongue. When the door of inward opens, the spiritual eyes are enlightened and the inward loudly invokes Ism-e-Allah Zaat which is clearly heard by the invoker himself as well as others. His entire existence converts into Divine light due to the invocation of Allah‟s name and he gets rid of all evil traits, love of the world and everything other than Allah hence his attributes become Divine. One whose inward is purified by engraving Ism-e-Allah Zaat on it, views the exact countenance of Ism-e-Allah Zaat by contemplation. Ism-e-

Allah Zaat ‫ اللہ‬has four alphabets, from these alphabets continue four oceans; ocean of Divine love, ocean of renunciation, ocean of forgetting the knowledge as is the verse:

َ َ َ ََ ُْ )4;:57( ‫ َواذؽ ْر ّر ّبک ِاذا ن ِس ْی َت‬ Meaning: And invoke your Lord when you forget (everything). (18:24)

55 Fourth is the ocean of vigilance which liberates the seeker from oblivion and slumber. The Holy Prophet said:

َْ َ َ

ََ

ُ ‫ام َع ْین ْی َولا یَن‬ ُ ‫ تن‬ )9653‫ام قل ِبیْ (اخبری۔‬ ِ Meaning: My eyes sleep but my inward does not. (Bukhari-3569)

Meaning: Nothing can stop them from the invocation of Allah even for a moment. The Holy Prophet has titled the inward as an ocean. You should know that Allah has created ten gardens in the inward. The Holy Prophet said:

َ ْ ْ ْ ُُ ْ ‫ َعض َر بَ َسا ِتی ُن ف ِ ْی قلوْ ِب المُ ٔو ِم ِنی َن‬

Meaning: There are ten gardens in the inward of true believers. These are the gardens of: 1- Divine Oneness 2- Sharia 3- Patience 4- Trust only upon Allah 5- Invocation 6- Reflection 7- Gnosis 8- Divinity 9- Presence 10- Union A seeker of Allah must always keep check on his innerself. If he finds any of these gardens polluted with polytheism, infidelity, heresy, oblivion, ignorance, covetousness, jealousy, arrogance, stinginess or pretence then he must uproot them. In this way the seeker will kill his innerself (nafs) and enliven his inward (qalb). He must also kill four metaphorical birds which are; crow of

56 greed, cock of lust, pigeon of sensual desires and the peacock of apparent beauty as mentioned in the following verse:

Meaning: And (also recall the event) when Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how you bring the dead to life”. Allah said, “Do you not have faith?” He submitted, “Why not! (I do believe), but (I wish) my heart is blessed with gratifying calm”. Allah ordained, “Well, take four birds and tame them to feel attached to you; then (slaughter them and) place a piece of each of them on each hill, then call them. They will come to you at high speed. And know that surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.” (2:260)

Explanation: Previously I was four, then became three and afterwards two. When came out of duality, I became one with Allah.

Explanation: The inward once enlivened never dies. Once it comes out of slumber never sleeps again. When a man of inward attains this station, he is blessed with perpetual observations and absolute Divine presence in both the worlds. For him life and death become the same, hunger and satiation are same, sleeping and awakening are same, frenzy and vigilance are same, silence and speech are same. His inward is

57 embraced by Ism-e-Allah Zaat and he suffers continuous inner pain. His inward reveals Divine secrets and he is enlightened by the Divine light. Allah says in Qudsi Hadith:

َ َ ََ َْ ُ َ ‫ ِا ّن ا ْول َِیٓای ِ ٔ ْی ت ْح َت ق َبای ِ ٔ ْی لَا ی ْعرِف ُہ ْم غیرِ ْی‬

Meaning: Some of My friends remain concealed in My robe, nobody knows them except Me.

‫انچم نک مسج را در امس اہنپم‬ ‫ہک رگیمدد افل در مسب اہنپم‬ Explanation: Let your being drown and conceal in the Divine name just like the „‫( ‟ا‬Alif) has been concealed in Bism ‫بسم‬. [‫بسم‬ Bism is actually ‫„ باسم‬Ba Ism‟ which means „with the name of‟ ّّٰ but while writing ‫( بسم اللہ‬Bismillah which means with the name of Allah) Alif becomes silent or it gets concealed]. Allah says:

Meaning: Allah (Ism-e-Allah Zaat) is the Guardian of the believers. He brings them out of darkness and takes them towards the light. (2:257) Hence light of the believer reaches Divine light. Qudsi Hadith:

58 Explanation: The word which honours with presence before the Holy Prophet is not written in the books as it is the secret of Allah.

‫ہن در ولح و ملق ہن رعش و رکیس‬ ‫ہک در دك تست دیپا از یک رُپیس‬ Explanation: That secret is neither written on the Guarded Tablet by the Pen nor present in the Throne or the Chair. It is concealed in your inward, why do you ask others! Allah says:

Meaning: In their inwards Allah has inscribed faith. (58:22)

Meaning: But he alone (will be the gainer) who appears before Allah with an inward protected (from) and pure (of all evils). (26:89)

‫رحیف ہک راہ دبوتس رُبد در اتکب تسین‬ ‫ااہنی ہک وخادنہ امی ہمہ در اسحب تسین‬ Explanation: The word that leads upon the path to the Beloved is not written in the books. Whatever I have learnt from that word is incalculable.

Explanation: If the inward is controlled by the company of Beloved then it finds a life that has no end.

Explanation: The station where Divine secrets are revealed is absolute Oneness. Neither there is paper nor a drop of ink to read or write them.

60 Explanation: The lovers of Allah are immersed in Oneness at the station of no station. They do not need to be a bookworm to acquire sagacity. Immersion in Divinity is of three types; first is like the chandelier which projects the shadows of pictures revolving around it, second is immersion in exact Beauty and third is eternal immersion in the Essence after being annihilated in Him. To cover this way of inward one must be steadfast and his eyes must be fixed upon the Divine vision. The physical Kaaba made of soil and water was constructed by Prophet Abraham and his son while the Kaaba of inward is created by Allah Himself. The physical Kaaba is meant to circumambulate the Kaaba of inward that is why the physical Kaaba came to welcome Rabia of Basra.

‫ِدك بعکٴ امظع اتس ازام بعکٴ آب و لِگ‬ ٰ‫ ہ دص وطاف آہکن دنک رگد اہ دك‬ Explanation: Inward is a greater Kaaba than the physical one. It circumambulates three hundred times around the people of inward. The men of inward get guidance about their worldly and religious matters through three sources; waham, inspiration and attention. You must know that there are two lakh seventy thousand rather infinite knots around the inward of man which incur loss. Seventy thousand knots are of greed and sensual desires, seventy thousand of jealousy and arrogance while seventy thousand knots are of conceit and pretence. These knots can neither be broken by knowledge, mystic endeavours, laws of fiqh, recitals and litanies nor by recitation of Quran, salats, fasts, hajj or zakat. Its only remedy is invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and powerful sight of the perfect spiritual guide who is an immortal Mystic. Allah says:

61

He whose inward Allah has opened for Islam (by the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat) is (stationed) in the light from his Lord. (But on the contrary) those whose inwards are hardened for (being deprived of the bounty of) Allah‟s invocation are destined to ruin. It is they who are in open error. (39:22)

َۡ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َ َ )<7:1-2( ﴾﴿ ‫ ال َ ۡم نض َر ۡح لَک َص ۡد َرك ﴿﴾ َو َوض ۡعنا َعنک ِوز َرك‬ Meaning: Have We not broadened your breast for you? And We have taken off the load from you. (94:1-2) Allah is saying to Prophet Mohammad that He has opened his inward and purified it of every undesirable thing. Allah says:

َّ ُّ َ ُ ۡ َ َ ّّٰ ُ َ ‫ فمَ ۡن ّیرِ ِد الل ُہ ا ۡن ّی ۡہ ِدیَہ یَض َر ۡح َص ۡد َره ل ِل ۡاِ ۡسل َا ِمۚ َو َم ۡن ّیرِ ۡد ا ۡن ی ِضلہ یَ ۡج َع ۡل َص ۡد َره‬ َّ َ َ َ َّ َ َ ّّٰ ُ َ ۡ َ َ ّٰ َ َ َ ّ ً َ ّ ‫الل ُہ‬ ‫الرِ ۡج َس َعلی ال ِذیۡ َن ل َا‬ ‫ض ِّیقا َػ َر ًجا کانمَا یَ ّص ّع ُد فِی السمٓا ِ=ۚؕ کذل ِک یجعل‬ َ ُ َ )6:126-127( ‫یُ ۡؤ ِمنوۡ َن ﴿﴾ َو ّٰھذا ِص َػ ُاط َر ِّبک ُم ۡس َت ِق ۡی ًما‬ Meaning: So he whom Allah intends to give guidance (by His bounty) He broadens his breast for Islam, and he for whom He wills persistence in error (which he has purchased) He tightens his breast with (such a) fierce constriction as if he were ascending up hard into the sky. In the same way Allah sends torment (of disgrace) upon those who do not come to believe. And this (Islam) is the straight path of your Lord. (6:126-127) The Holy Prophet said:

ُ ُ ُُ َُْ ُ َ ُْ ُ ُ ْ ّّٰ َ ‫ ِا ّن الل َہ لَا یَنظ ُر ِال ّٰی ُصوَرِک ْم َول َا یَنظ ُر ِالّٰی ا ْعمَال ِک ْم َولّٰ ِک ْن ّینظ ُر ف ِ ْی قلوْ ِبک ْم َونِ ّ َیا ِتک ْم‬

62 Meaning: Verily! Allah neither observes your physical appearance nor the deeds rather He observes your inwards and intentions. Allah says:

Meaning: Allah has not made for any man two hearts inside his breast. (33:4) Hadith:

Meaning: Inward is of three kinds; one kind of inward is engrossed in the world, second kind is engrossed in the hereafter and third kind of inward is engrossed in Allah. The inward engrossed in the world is inflicted by hardships and calamities. The inward engrossed in hereafter is blessed with great paradise while the inward engrossed in Allah is bestowed with world, hereafter as well as (closeness of) Allah.

Meaning: The seeker of world is an intersex, the seeker of hereafter is a female and the seeker of Allah is a male.

Meaning: Inward is of three kinds; the purified inward (qalb-esaleem), the inward returned to Allah (qalb-e-muneeb) and the

63 inward engrossed in observation of Allah (qalb-e-shaheed). The purified inward has nothing but Allah. The inward returned to Allah is attentive only towards Allah turning away from everyone. The inward engrossed in observation of Allah witnesses only Allah and His Nature in everything. Allah says:

Meaning: And (also) do not follow him whose inward We have made neglectful of Our invocation and who follows but the urge of his (innerself) and his case has exceeded all bounds. (18:28) The man of inward never looks towards anything but only Allah. Hadith:

Most of the scholars say that in this age there is no Fakir or spiritual guide who can give Divine guidance and persuasion towards Allah hence one should take religious knowledge as the medium. They are wrong. Wherever there are seekers of Allah, men of sight and sage scholars, there certainly are present Fakirs who are men of Divine guidance. When they will not be present on the earth, the angels would destroy it. The men of traditions must seek righteousness from them because the perfect Fakirs are men of invocation whose inward is alive and they are true scholars who practise what they preach. Hadith:

Meaning: Everyone has counted breaths. The breath which passes without the invocation of Allah is dead.

‫یسب دص اساہل ابدی انف یف اہلل وشد افین‬ ؒ‫ہک دیم انرحمل اتس آاجن طلغتفگاتسٰٰٰاخیناقین‬ Explanation: Khaqani has said wrong that to annihilate in Allah one needs to struggle for hundreds of years. It is the station beyond time. One who spends his life in desire of worldly sustenance and paradise and remains firm on it, finds no benefit from his desire. Whereas one who desires the Beloved, both the worlds desire him. The Holy Prophet said:

ُ ّ ُ ‫ َم ْن ل َہُ الْمَوْلّٰی َفلَ ُہ الْک‬ ‫ل‬

Meaning: One who finds Allah, finds everything.

Meaning: There is such a fire (of love) in my inward that even the hell fire is cooler as compared to it. The inward which does not burn in the fire of Divine love, will be burnt by the fire of hell.

Meaning: Their bodies are in the world but inwards are in the hereafter. Men of inward eat the food of this world (physically live in this material world) but perform the deeds of that (spiritual) world.

CHAPTER 2

DISCUSSION ABOUT ISM-E-ALLAH ZAAT AND STATION OF FAQR ANNIHILATED IN ALLAH Know that the source to tear all veils and attain Divine union is Ism-e-Allah Zaat. The existence of seeker of Allah is a wonder which cannot be understood by anyone as the existence of man is a maze. Just as name of an entity and the entity are one and the same similarly a man of maze must attain singularity so that he is perfected. Perfect is the one who shows Ism-e-Allah Zaat as a mirror in which entire creation of eighteen thousand worlds rather from pre-existence till eternity as well as all spheres of the earth and the skies can be seen. The seeker observes and verifies that each and everything is in the core of inward and inward is in the core of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Ism-e-Allah Zaat is like the sun. When the sun rises, its light reaches everywhere. In fact light of the sun and the moon rather everything owes to the light of Isme-Allah Zaat. When it enlightens the inward of the seeker, he is annihilated in Allah and becomes one with Him hence attains the station of „Faqr annihilated in Allah‟.

ٰ‫مین رظنی ہب رما از آاتفب‬ ‫رظن رقفش رتہب اتس از رہ واب‬ Explanation: Even a half glance of Fakir is better for me than the sun because the sight of Faqr is superior to every good deed. The religious scholars are like a lamp for the religion but the Fakirs are like the sun. A lamp is worthless before the sun. Fakir is a man of gnosis and so much beneficent that he can grant knowledge to an ignorant with his single glance and elevate a scholar to the station of gnosis.

Explanation: If the whole world is blown away with wind, the lamp of favourites of Allah will not be extinguished.

‫رچاغ را ہک ازید رب رفوزد‬ ‫رہ آسکن فت زدن رششی وسبزد‬ Explanation: One who tries to blow out the lamp lit by Allah Himself, burns his own beard. The perception of a Fakir is such that every moment he has anew spiritual state and anew level of Divine union. A moment he is in physical body and another moment he is in spiritual being. The existence of Fakirs is like quicksilver. It turns to fragments on just a little stimulus and from single existence appear thousands rather infinite existences. If you achieve this level then do not feel proud on it as it is just a jugglery of miracles and not at all leads to Divine Oneness. Often people say that Fakirism is too difficult. They are wrong, it is not difficult rather it is the solution of every difficulty. Fakir who possesses the sight of Divine wrath and beauty, has authority upon both the worlds. Following verse is about him:

Meaning: (O My beloved!) Stay tenaciously in the companionship of those who remember their Lord morning and evening, ardently seeking His pleasure, (keen on the glimpse of His sight, and eagerly aspiring to glance at His radiant Countenance). Your (affectionate and caring) looks must not but focus them. Do you

67 seek the charisma of the worldly life (shifting your attention away from these self-denying devotees)? (18:28)

Explanation: I have enveloped my inward in Ism-e-Allah Zaat hence it is protected from apprehension and illusions. Hadith:

Meaning: No salat without the presence of inward.

‫دك از رطخہ اخا مکش رُپ اعطل‬ ‫ن گ‬ ‫ہک نای رعماج والص امتل‬ Explanation: Those blessed with ultimate Divine union perpetually remain in the state of Miraj even if their stomach is full (i.e. they have worldly wealth) because their inward is pure of apprehensions. Their eating is an endeavor and their sleeping is Divine observation during which they visit every spiritual station separately. Their food is light, their esoteric self is like a stove, their sleep is the presence before Allah and their inward is the heavenly Kaaba. The ascetics are unaware and far from their status. One whose inward contemplates Ism-e-Allah Zaat, his inward is enlightened with the light of Allah. One whose eyes contemplate Ism-e-Allah Zaat, his physical and spiritual eyes become same and he views both the worlds. One who contemplates Ism-eAllah Zaat in his brain, becomes a man of secrets. However one must not feel proud on achieving these stations. It is just the exercise of contemplating alphabets not the awareness of ultimate Divine secrets. Real station of Unity is the key to Divine Oneness.

68 Listen O seeker of Allah! The Fakir annihilated in Allah says true that you have not still experienced the words of Allah:

ُ َ ُ ۡ ُ ّّٰ َ ۡ ُ َ َ (3:92)‫ ل َ ۡن تنالوا البِ ّر َحتی تن ِفقوۡا ِم ّما ت ِح ّ ُبوۡ َن‬

Meaning: You can never attain to piety unless you spend (in the cause of Allah) out of that which you like the most. (3:92) Rather you have misunderstood the command of Allah:

ّّٰ َ ٓ َ )84:83( ‫ ف ِع ّ ُر ْوا ِالی الل ِہ‬

Meaning: So run towards Allah. (51:50) As:

Meaning: So run away from Allah. That is why you have not reached the status of closeness to Allah about which He says:

َْ َ ْ )83:49( ‫ َو ن ْح ُن اق َر ُب ِا ل َ ْی ِہ ِم ْن َح ْب ِل الوَرِیْ ِد‬

Meaning: And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein. (50:16)

Meaning: And (I am) in your selves (as well). So do you not notice? (51:21)

Meaning: Wherever you are, He is with you. (57:4) Your esoteric eyes are deprived of the vision of light of Allah although He says:

ّّٰ َ َ َ ُّ ُ َ َ َ )5:448( ‫ فایۡنمَا توَلوۡا فث ّم َو ۡج ُہ الل ِہ‬

69 Meaning: So whichever direction you turn to there is Divine Countenance. (2:115) It is because you do not obey the orders of Allah completely. He says:

Meaning: Eat and drink but do not spend extravagantly because certainly He does not like the extravagant. (7:31)

Explanation: Do not fill your stomach till throat, you are not a cauldron. Do not drink too much, you are not sand. The verse is about physical body and its proof is that the Holy Prophet never had worldly wealth or possessions. Hadith:

Meaning: An indigent is under the protection of Allah. O spiritually blind who will remain so till death! Allah says:

Meaning: And whoever remains blind (to Divine vision) in this (world( will be blind in the hereafter as well. (71:72) The Holy Prophet said:

ْ ُّ َ ْ ُّ َ َ َ ‫ِلدن َیا‬ ‫ ترك الدنیا ل‬

Meaning: They renounce the world for the world. That is, some so called Fakirs pretentiously renounce the world with an intention to gather more wealth. If someone says that he does not desire wealth rather has gathered it for the sake of charity to the orphans, poor, widows and the deserving Muslims

70 then it is just a satanic ruse and a deception. True Fakir and Dervish is the one that if entire wealth present on the earth is given to him, he at once spends it in the way of Allah just like the Holy Prophet did. Moreover you must know that every morning Satan beats the drum of greed and all the greedy people become his obedient and follower. However this sound does not reach the ears of perfect Fakirs and true scholars who practise what they preach. They

remain engrossed in Allah at the station of ‫ل ِ ْی َمع الل ِہ‬. The Holy Prophet said about this station:

ْ ّّٰ َ ُ َ َُ ٌ َ ‫ ل ِ ْی َمع الل ِہ َوق ٌت ل َا یَ َس ُعنِ ْی فِ ْی ِہ َملک ّمغ ّ َر ٌب َو لَا ن ِب ٌّی ّم ْر َس ٌل‬

Meaning: At times I have such closeness with Allah when neither any Prophet nor any archangel is between us.4 The Holy Prophet was so much immersed in the state of annihilation in Allah that he did not recognize even himself.

Explanation: Although the angels are close to Allah but they have no access to the level of closeness about which the Holy Prophet said, “At times I have such closeness with Allah when neither any Prophet nor any archangel is between us.” At this station the innerself converts into soul and the light of Fakir becomes the light of Allah. On the doomsday the Fakirs 4

One night Prophet Mohammad woke up and went outside the house. Aisha bint Abi Bakr followed him out of curiosity. She saw that he went to Jannat-ul-Baqi and sat there. Aisha was about to return when he heard her footstep and asked, “Who is there?” She replied, “I am Aisha.” He said, “Who is Aisha?” She replied, “Abu Bakr‟s daughter.” He said, “Who is Abu Bakr?” She replied, “Slave of Mohammad.” He said, “Who is Mohammad?” Aisha came back silently. This matter was discussed with the Holy Prophet when he returned upon which he quoted the said Hadith.

71 will rise from their graves seeking the vision of Allah. Allah will order the angels to fix their tents in the hell. Angels will obey the order and the Fakirs will grace the tents. When they will cast a glance towards the hell, its fire will cool down and turn to ash due to the blaze of their ardent love for only Allah and the warmth of invocation of Allah. Thence Allah will give them the authority to take their followers with them. The power and worth of Fakirs will be known on that day. Then they will be taken to the balance where sins and virtues will be measured. On one side of the balance Ism-e-Allah Zaat (whose invocation they had been doing) will be placed while on the other side sins will be placed. Even if the sins will be equal to fourteen spheres of earth and skies, the side containing Ism-e-Allah Zaat will be heavier. If the sins of their friends, family and neighbours will also be added to it along with their sins, the side with Ism-e-Allah Zaat will still be heavier.

‫رگ وخبایہ وخش ایحیت سفن را رگدم زبم‬ ‫راہ ومٰیل ات ایبیب رتک دہ رفزدن و زم‬ Explanation: If you wish to have a happy life, kill you innerself. You will be able to travel the path of Allah only after renouncing your family (esoterically).

‫رگ وخبایہ وخش ایحیت سفن اب وخد ٰنک رقیف‬ ‫امك و زم رفزدن دبرت واالصم را انی رطقی‬ Explanation: If you wish to have a happy life, make the (satisfied) innerself your companion. Those blessed with Divine union consider love of wealth and family as the worst.

72

‫رگ وخبایہ وخش ایحیت سفن از وخد نک دجا‬ ‫ن گ‬ ‫دل دبل رعماج نایٰ اعرافم را اب دخا‬ Explanation: If you wish to have a happy life, separate from your innerself. By doing so the Mystics are forever blessed with Miraj and company of Allah. Hadiths:

Meaning: Whoever recognized his innerself undoubtedly recognized his Lord.

Meaning: One who recognized his innerself by annihilating it, recognized his Lord by gaining immortality with Him.

Meaning: One who recognizes Allah finds no pleasure in the company of people.

Meaning: He who recognizes his Lord becomes silent. Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani said:

)‫ الان ُس ِبالل ِہ َوالمُتوَ ّحش َع ْن غیرِ الل ِہ (ارلاسۃاوغلہیث‬ Meaning: One who loves Allah becomes disgusted of everyone other than Allah. (Ar-Risala tul-Ghausia) Hadith:

Meaning: Safety is in Oneness while duality is full of troubles.

73 That is to say, safety lies only in oneness with Allah. Other than this every station, honour and rank is full of satanic troubles. The Holy Prophet said:

ْ ُ ْ ْ ُ ْ ُّ َ ‫ ا‬ ‫لدن َیا لَک ْم َوال ُعق ّٰبی لَک ْم َوالمَوْلّٰی ل ِ ْی‬

Meaning: The world and hereafter are for you, for me there is only Allah.

CHAPTER 3 DISCUSSION ABOUT MEDITATION, DREAMS, IMMERSION IN ONENESS, ISOLATION AND SEPARATION AND VERIFICATION OF EACH ON THE BASIS OF THEOPHANIES OF DIVINE ESSENCE AND ATTRIBUTES Know that like dreams one has no control upon oneself during meditation. There are ten kinds of meditation; 12345-

Meditation of visiting the pre-existence Meditation of visiting the eternity Meditation of visiting the earth Meditation of visiting the skies Meditation of visiting the Mohammadan Assembly and presence before the Holy Prophet 6- Meditation of having the company of all Prophets 7- Meditation of meeting the leader of all Saints Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani 8- Meditation of meeting all the Muslims and true believers 9- Meditation of examining the existence i.e. inward, innerself and soul 10- Meditation of immersion in Oneness of Allah There are three levels of meditation. Meditation of people surrounded by apprehensions and illusions is entirely different from the meditation of people of Divine beauty which is unprecedented. First kind of meditation opens the doors to preexistence. This meditation guards the seeker from satanic whispers, obsessions and other enemies and fulfils all his objectives taking him to the Beloved. Hadith:

75

Meaning: Love of homeland is a part of faith. Real homeland of man is pre-existence. The Holy Prophet said:

َ ُ َ ُ ‫ ک ّ ُل ش ْیٍَۚ=یَ ْر ِجع ِالّٰی ا ْص ِل ٖہ‬

Meaning: Everything turns towards its origin. In this Hadith also „origin‟ refers to pre-existence. When a seeker of Allah intends to reach pre-existence during meditation, he views himself standing in a row in the arena of souls and watches the spectacle of pre-existence. He hears the call of;

Meaning: Am I not your Lord? (7:172) And answers;

Meaning: They (the souls) said, “Yes! You are our Lord.” Then he shakes hand with the souls of Prophets, Saints, Sufis and believers hence becomes a true Muslim. Hadith:

Meaning: The believer is (other) believer‟s mirror.

(Abu Dawud

4918)

One must know that in the pre-existence Allah asked all the souls, “O souls! What do you want?” All of them answered, “O Allah! We seek You and Your vision.” Allah presented the worldly pleasures before them hence nine parts of all souls ran towards the world. Remaining one part kept standing before Allah. He again asked them, “O souls! What do you want?” They replied, “O Allah! We seek only You and Your vision.” Allah then presented the paradise, its houries, castles and other

76 pleasures before them. Yet again nine parts of the remaining souls ran towards the paradise. One part of the souls kept standing before Allah passionately because they had no desire other than Allah. Hadith:

Meaning: It is the same now as it was before. After viewing all this, the seeker comes out of the state of meditation. During the second kind of meditation the seeker becomes unconscious of himself and views as if the doomsday has occurred and he can see the field of requital and accountability being held. Allah says:

Meaning: Then he who will have done even an atom‟s weight of good will see it. And he who will have done even an atom‟s weight of evil will (also) see it. (99:7-8) During meditation he crosses the Sirat bridge,5 watches the people of hell being tormented and people of heaven in delight. After drinking the pure heavenly beverage by the sacred hands of the Holy Prophet and having the honour of vision of Allah, he comes out of the state of meditation. Third kind of meditation is related with travelling the spheres of skies. During this meditation the meditator views all the stations of angels, nine skies, the Throne, Chair, Tablet and the Pen in an unconscious state and then comes out of the meditation. During the fourth kind of meditation the meditator travels the entire earth being unconscious of himself and views the reality of seven layers of earth and everything from sky till the bed of oceans. Fifth kind of meditation blesses with presence before the Holy Prophet. When the meditator immerses in the state of meditation, he 5

Sirat in Arabic means a way or a road. According to Mohammadan traditions, it is the bridge which passes from above the hell and can be crossed only by the believers.

77 becomes unconscious and finds himself in the Mohammadan Assembly. The Holy Prophet ennobles him with titles and ranks as well as confers him with Divine guidance. When he comes out of the meditation, he remains persevered upon the guidance. In the sixth kind of meditation the seeker spiritually travels to meet all the Prophets and Sufis. When he immerses in the state of meditation, he becomes unconscious of himself, meets every Prophet, shakes hand with them and comes out of meditation. Seventh kind of meditation is intended to meet all the Sufi hierarchy. The meditator immerses in the state of meditation, meets them and after observing their ranks, he comes out of meditation. When the meditator immerses in the eighth kind of meditation with an intention to meet the souls of all believers, he is blessed with it and then comes out of meditation. During the ninth kind of meditation the meditator travels eighteen thousand realms in the state of immersion, views every realm and comes out of meditation. In the tenth kind of meditation, the meditator immerses in Divine Oneness being one with Allah such that he turns to light. Even if he spiritually spends seventy or hundred years in this state, for the people it is only a blink of an eye. Such a meditator is perpetually in the state of meditation and is never oblivious of it. Whoever is unaware of such a meditation, is deprived of gnosis and travelling towards Allah though he may belong to a known family of leaders.

78 become spiritually generous nor will be able to take himself out of the bounds of both worlds. Such a seeker cannot be called a true seeker and the spiritual guide cannot be considered a perfect one.

EXPLANATION OF DREAMS AND MEDITATION If a person daily meets the Fakirs or finds himself invoking Allah‟s name in his dream or meditation then surely he is seeker of vision of Allah and Oneness. Such dreams and meditation show that he is spiritually progressing day by day. If a person watches the assembly of infidels during his dreams every night or during meditation then it shows that he is still at the station of

َ negation „there is no (other) God (‫ ‟)لا ِال ّٰ َہ‬and has not reached the

ّّٰ َّ station of affirmation „but only Allah (‫‟) ِالا الل ُہ‬. Or maybe he is seeing the reality of innerself or Satan is showing him the assembly of infidels so that he is disheartened from the path of Allah and leaves it. It may also be a clue that his faith in his spiritual guide is not intact. He must repent and discuss his state with the spiritual guide. If the spiritual guide is perfect, he would immediately take the seeker out of the state of infidelity and elevate him to the station of Islam. Otherwise the seeker would turn crazy or a majdhub or an infidel by leaving the salat and indulging in polytheism and drinking wine. I seek refuge in Allah from this. If a person sees himself fighting with someone in his dream or meditation and finds himself strong and fierce then he is fighting against his innerself. Esoterically his status is that of a winning soldier. The man of passion Fakir is dominant upon his innerself and its desires, he is one with Allah and the lover of Fakirs. If a person sees animals in his meditation or dream every night, it shows that his inward is blackened by apprehensions. He is

79 seeker of world and a depraved one who has not even reached the status of humans. If a person views every night in his dream or meditation that he is reciting the Quran, offering salat, calling azan or finds himself in a garden in company of Saints or in the assembly of true scholars then it is a clue that he will return from the world with faith and his end will be peaceful. If a person beholds Allah in his dream or meditation then it is also true as Imam Abu Hanifa beheld Allah seventy times during dream and conversed with Him. His dreams were not during a slumber of oblivion. However the countenance of Allah cannot be exemplified with anything that is why the Holy Prophet said:

َّ َ َ َّ َ َ ّٰ َ ‫ تفؾ ُر ْوا فِی الْا ّٰی ِت ٖہ َو لَا تفؾ ُر ْوا ف ِ ْی ذا ِت ٖہ‬

Meaning: Reflect upon the signs of Allah not the Essence. That is to say you should reflect that you are blessed with the vision of Allah which is the greatest blessing and it should be enough. You must not reflect upon the quiddity and Essence of Allah as He says:

ۡ ۡ ُ َّ َ ُ َ ٌ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ )75:4 4 ( ‫الس ِم ۡیع ال َب ِصی ُر‬ ‫ لیس ک ِمث ِل ٖہ شی= و ھو‬

Meaning: There is nothing like Him and He alone is AllHearing, All-Seeing. (42:11) No doubt one who beholds Allah, is liberated from ego. If a person sees himself riding a horse or crossing a river on a boat in his dream or meditation, it is a clue that he will soon achieve his objective. The enlightened Fakir who has reached the ultimate level views everything candidly and exactly. He is forever united with the Beloved and both the worlds remain under his sight hence he has no need of meditation or dreams.

EXPLANATION OF THEOPHANIES THAT OPEN THE DOOR OF INWARD AND THEIR VERIFICATION There are fourteen kinds of theophanies. Each kind can be recognized through its signs and efficacy on the existence just as one recognizes his body parts. The fourteen kinds are: 1234567-

Theophany of Ism-e-Allah Zaat Theophany of Ism-e-Mohammad Theophany of Divine name Hoo Theophany of Divine name Faqr Theophany of inward invocation Theophany of invocation of soul Theophany of invocation which creates a spark of light in the brain that manifests from the physical eyes. It is called the theophany of secret (sir’r) 8- Theophany of innerself which in collaboration with Satan produces the theophany of depravity in the existence 9- Theophany of Satan which produces polytheism 10- Theophany of sun, when this theophany appears in the existence it ensues inclination of creation 11- Theophany of moon whose proximity creates wrath 12- Theophany of jinn which disturbs the state of jamiat by creating craziness 13- Theophany of angels which arouses restlessness that results in renunciation, trust only upon Allah, increased devotions and loneliness 14- Theophany of the spiritual guide which produces jamiat, beauty, passion, frenzy and unending closeness and union of Allah Due to these satanic and Divine theophanies countless seekers got depraved and ruined and their ranks were confiscated. At the station of theophanies the seeker must be accompanied by the

81 perfect spiritual guide who helps him cross it otherwise he will be demoted and will turn crazy or majdhub. I seek refuge in Allah from this. You must know that when Prophet Moses was at the station of theophany he continuously asked Allah:

َُۡ َ َ (7:143) ‫ َر ِّب ارِن ِ ۡیۤۡ انظ ۡر ِال َ ۡیک‬ Meaning: O Lord, show me (Your beauty) so that I may savour Your sight. (7:143) Allah responded:

Meaning: By no means can you look upon Me. (7:143) At last Prophet Moses reached the station about which Allah says:

ۡ ُ ّّٰ َ َ َ َ ً َ َ َ ًّ َ (7:143) ‫ فل ّما ت َجلی َر ّبہ ل ِل َج َب ِل َج َعلہ َدکا ّو ؼ ّر ُموۡ ّٰسی َص ِعقا‬

Meaning: When his Lord unveiled the theophany (of His Divine beauty) on to the mountain, (He) crushed it into sand particles (with the intense Divine radiance) and Moses fell down unconscious. (7:143)

The theophany made Moses unconscious and burnt Mount Sinai. Afterwards wherever Moses looked, everything burnt. Thus Moses put a veil on his face but the veil also burnt. He made veils of iron, copper, gold and silver but all of them burnt. Moses asked Allah upon which He commanded, “O Moses! Make a veil out of tattered dress of any Dervish or Fakir having alive inward.” Prophet Moses did the same. That veil did not burn no matter how intensely he glanced upon it. Moses asked Allah why that veil had not burnt? He replied, “The Fakirs remember Me while wearing that tattered dress and seek nothing but Me.” Allah added, “O Moses! I descended theophany upon you just the size

82 of an eye of needle covering it in seventy thousand veils but you could not bear it and became unconscious. In the umma of the last Prophet Mohammad such Dervishes and Fakirs will be born upon whose inward I will descend seventy thousand such theophanies of My compassionate sight but they will not become unconscious rather will ask, „O Allah! Bless us with Your compassionate sight and descend more theophanies upon us‟.” It is so because the men of Allah always keep travelling physically and spiritually due to the dominance of Divine love and passion. Sometimes Divine passion occupies them so much that they wish to kill themselves. They find peace with nothing but vision of Allah.

Explanation: It is Divine love that keeps the inward restless otherwise who does not wish peace! Know that when a person renounces the filthy world for seeking Allah and steps on the path of Faqr, the same day Allah orders all the Prophets, Saints, Sufis and the entire creation of eighteen thousand realms, “One of My friends has renounced the impure world for My sake. You all must visit him and wear the same dress of Faqr as he is wearing.” Allah says to His friend, “Ask anything you wish. I will grant you.” True Fakir achieves this status on the very first day. Allah says:

Meaning: Love of Fakirs is the key to paradise.

Meaning: Loving the Fakirs is an attribute of Prophets.

83 You must revere the Fakirs even when you see their picture on the wall. Whoever is blessed with the wealth of both the worlds, finds it by the benediction of Fakirs. Right of Fakir upon the people is same as the right of a Prophet upon his nation.

Meaning: Had there been no Fakirs, the rich would have been destroyed.

Meaning: Had there been no Fakirs, the rich would have been afflicted with leprosy. To say, if there were no Fakirs, all worldly people would have been destroyed. The Fakir takes first step from pre-existence and comes to the world. He puts the second step from the world into the hereafter. From the hereafter he takes the third step towards vision of Allah and then engrosses in it. One who follows the steps of Fakir, feels disgusted of the filthy world just as people are disgusted of the carrion. True Fakir is the one who lives in the world in the state of fasting and does not break the fast till death. He avoids the dead hearted people to be safe from their evil. The Holy Prophet said:

ُ َّ ٌ َ ْ ً َ ْ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ْ َ ْ ‫السکوْ ِة َو َوا ِح ٌد فِی الوَ ْح َد ِۃ‬ ‫ العافِیۃ عضر اجز>= ِتسعۃ فِی‬

Meaning: Peace has ten parts, nine are found in silence while the remaining is in Oneness (seclusion). First thing that created chaos and evil on this earth was worldliness. Hadiths:

Meaning: Root cause of every fitna is the world which is also the veil between Allah and man.

84

Meaning: The best desire is to seek Allah and the best invocation is of Allah (Ism-e-Allah Zaat).

Meaning: World is for the kings and infidels while hereafter is for the pious and Masakeen.6

Meaning: The seeker of world can never be a seeker of Allah. Only the immodest and unwise people seek the world and the world never spares its seeker without inflicting calamities upon him.

CHAPTER 4 DISCUSSION ABOUT NEGATION AND AFFIRMATION, LOUD AND SECRET INVOCATION Know that there is no God but Allah. Allah says:

Meaning: Do not associate with Me anything. (22:26)

Meaning: It is they who are the losers. (2:121) The Holy Prophet said:

ّٰ َ ّّٰ َ ّ ََ ُُ َ ‫ َم ْن َق‬ ‫ال لَٓا ِال ّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ َم ّرَۃ ل َ ْم یَ ْبقی ِم ْن ذنوْ ِب ٖہ ذ ّر ٍۃ‬

ّّٰ َّ َ Meaning: One who sincerely recites the Shahada ‫„ لٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ‬There is no God but Allah‟, all his sins are obliterated. The Worshipped, the Creator, the Sustainer, the One, the AllHearing, the All-Seeing is only Allah, none else. Hence keeping hopes and seeking anything from anyone else is polytheism and infidelity but only if the source is considered from Allah. It is only Allah Who gives and makes sources to give. True seeker of Allah does not worry for sustenance rather his entire attention is towards remembering Allah being assured of Allah‟s promise of providing sustenance. Allah says:

Meaning: Certainly the promise of Allah is true. (35:5)

86

Meaning: (O our Lord!) Surely You do not go against Your promise. (3:194)

Meaning: So remember Me, I shall remember you. (2:152)

Meaning: And there is no moving creation (living being) on the earth but (that) its sustenance is (a bountiful obligation) upon Allah. (11:6)

Meaning: And Allah gives without measure to whom He wills. (2:212)

Meaning: Whatever of (the treasure of) His mercy Allah opens to mankind, there is none who can withhold it. (35:2) The Holy Prophet said:

َ َ َ َ ‫ لَا َمانِع ل ِمَا ا ۡعط ۡی َت َولَا ُم ۡع ِط ۡی ل ِمَا َمن َع ۡت‬ Meaning: No one can withhold whom You grant and no one can grant whom You withhold. Perfect spiritual guide is the one who casts a glance on the inward of a seeker and by this single glance burns all the filth, satanic whispers, obsessions, evil suggestions, sensual desires and apprehensions which occupied his inward. Hence the inward of the seeker is liberated from the clutches of Satan. Afterwards the spiritual guide blesses the seeker with Divine persuasion:

87

)6;33 ‫الذؽ ِر لٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا اللہُ ُم َح ّم ٌد ّر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ (انبامہج‬ ِ ‫ افض ُل‬ Meaning: The greatest invocation is shahada “There is no God but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah.” (Ibn Maja 3800)

َ

There are twenty four alphabets in shahada ‫ لٓا ِال ّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ ُم َح ّمد ّر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ‬, a day and night also have twenty four hours and during this time a human breathes twenty four thousand times. If one recites shahada with complete sincerity, its each alphabet burns the sins of every hour like fire burns dry sticks. Persuasion depends on faith and faith depends on persuasion. The loud invocation of negation and affirmation is done in three strokes. With first stroke the invoker should recite;

Meaning: O believers! Always fear Allah and say what is correct and straight. (33:70)

َ

Along with it he should recite ‫ لٓا ِال ّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ‬and strike on the inward with such an absorption that the station of pre-existence is revealed and he becomes enlightened. With the second strike of

ّّٰ َ ّ ‫ لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ‬station of eternity is revealed and the seeker repents ّّٰ َ ّ َ from the sensual states. Third strike of ُ‫ لٓا ِال ّٰ َہ ِالا اللہ‬blesses him with presence in the Mohammadan Assembly from where he is ennobled with ranks and titles. The seeker acquires the straight path completely from the Holy Prophet and achieves Divine union. Being a spiritual guide is not easy rather great secrets of becoming one with Allah are concealed in his sight. Invocation means Divine presence. It neither means crying bitterly in impatience being away from Allah nor being forlorn or oppressed. Invocation is uniqueness not strangeness. It is

88 verifying the presence of Allah nearer than the jugular vein not being separated from Him. By loud invocation the essence of beholding the Divine beauty with truth of certainty is created.

َ ‫ َم ْن ا َر َاد ال ِع َب‬ )‫ادۃ ب ْع َد ال ُح ُصوْ ِل الوَ ُصوْ ِل فق ْد کع َر َو اش َرك ِبالل ِہ (ارلاسۃاوغلہیث‬ Meaning: One who intended to worship after attaining union with Allah, committed infidelity and polytheism. (Ar-Risala tul-Ghausia) Allah says:

Meaning: And worship your Lord till you attain to the station of certainty of faith. (15:99) Invocation is another name for faith, faith upon the name of Allah. One who stops from invocation of name of Allah, is faithless. As one does not want to take the name of one‟s enemy. Thus whoever prevents from invocation of Allah‟s name is either a hypocrite, infidel or a jealous. One who knows the name of Truth, does not take the name of world, innerself and Satan. He should feel bad while taking their names and feel happy on invoking the name of Allah.

‫رہ ہک ابدش دنسپ اخقل اپک‬ ‫ور ہن ابدش دنسپ قلخ ہچ ابک‬ Explanation: One whom Allah likes, does not care whether people like him or not. Fakirism does not depend on being a Sayyid, a Quraishi or famous rather it is only because of Divine gnosis. It is only Allah‟s choice to whom it will be granted. Allah says:

89 Meaning: Then when the trumpet will be blown, neither will any relation remain (intact) amongst them that Day, nor will they be able to ask of one another. (23:101) The Holy Prophet said:

َُْ َ َْ =ِ >‫ َس ِّی ُد القوْ ِم خا ِد ُم الفغ َر‬ Meaning: The ruler of nation is the servant of Fakirs.

‫لبلب مین ہک رعنہ زمن درد رس منک‬ ‫رپواہن وار وسزل و دل رباینورل‬ Explanation: I am not like a nightingale which cries and gives headache to others. I am like a moth which burns but never complains. Haven‟t you heard that the Holy Prophet said:

َ ّّٰ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ ّ َ َ ‫اق الل ِہ ت َعالّٰی‬ ِ ‫ تخلقوا ِباخل‬

Meaning: Be attributed with the attributes of Allah. Extreme level of scholars is to become conversant in logic and philosophy but this is just the beginning of Fakirs. They begin with the knowledge of Alif i.e. Ism-e-Allah Zaat and their ultimacy is “Only Allah! Everything other than Allah is lust.” Fakir Bahoo says that I have not taken any point from any book rather I have learnt entire knowledge and every point that I have discussed in this book from the Holy Prophet and Allah Himself. As I have entrusted myself completely to Allah.

Meaning: Bestow upon us mercy from Your presence and provide (means of) guidance in our affair. (18:10) The Holy Prophet said:

90

Meaning: They do not hear anyone but He in Him.

Meaning: One who loves Allah, do not love anyone else .

Meaning: Erase the love of world from your inward.

Meaning: Renunciation of the world is compulsory and love of Allah is obligatory. Allah says:

Meaning: There these (people) will neither hear any foolish talk nor belie (one another). (78:35)

Meaning: Those who have faith in their inward, We have filled it with light. Allah says that the inwards He has adorned with faith are replete with light. It is due to the dominance of the light that invocation continues in them and is expressed by the tongue. Here the secret and loud invocation are same which make the seeker unconscious of himself. One must know that there are one lakh seventy thousand and twenty-five names of Allah hence number of invocations of Allah‟s names is also the same. All these are included in the contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Ism-e-Allah Zaat affects the inward and produces light in it by the spiritually powerful sight

91 of spiritual guide. This is marvel of the greatest name of Allah which does not sustain but in the great existence. Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:

ّّٰ ۡ ُ ّ َ ُ ُ َ ۡ ُ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ َ ّّٰ ُ ُ ۡ َ ُ ۡ ُ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ ‫ان تل ِذذف ۡی ِذؽ ِر الل ِہ‬ ‫ و ِاذ جا= الجوع یذؽر اللہ و ِاذ جا= العری‬

Meaning: Invoke the name of Allah when you have nothing to eat and wear so that you feel the pleasure of invocation. Hadith:

Meaning: There are three kinds of deeds; invoking the name of Allah in every state, making peace with brethren and purifying the innerself from lie and hypocrisy. The Holy Prophet meant to say that there are three most difficult tasks; invoking the name of Allah in every condition, reconciliation with a Muslim brother and removing hypocrisy from the innerself. Saving the innerself from evil is only possible by continuous invocation of Allah‟s name. When invocation by tongue, inward and soul become the same, every cell of the body starts invocation which burns the innerself day and night while the soul feels pleasure. The impure innerself is not cleansed by anything, neither by reciting the Quran, fasting in Ramadan, asceticism, piety, knowledge of fiqh nor by performing hajj or giving zakat but only by perpetual invocation. Perpetual invocation means to immerse in Oneness of Allah with every breath being unconscious of oneself though physically one lives in the company of people. Perpetual invocation is neither related with inward nor with soul or secret. It continues in entire existence just as life runs in the whole body. The Holy Prophet said:

َ ّّٰ ْ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ ‫اد ِۃ ِذؽ ُر الل ِہ ت َعالّٰی‬ ‫ افضل ال ِعب‬

Meaning: The greatest devotion is invocation of Allah.

92 Know that the innerself turns infidel while committing sin, acts like animals during lust, becomes Pharaoh when sated and when hungry it behaves like a crazy dog. On the contrary the innerself of Mystics has four qualities; it is vigilant against the sin, observes patience when hungry, generous when sated and conscious during copulation. While committing sin even if the innerself is warned by saying, “O innerself beware! Allah is Omnipresent, you will be deprived of the intercession of the Holy Prophet,” or is frightened of agony of death, perdition of grave, cross questioning of Munkar and Nakir7, burning in the hell fire, scale measuring virtues and sins, record of deeds, crossing the Sirat bridge or is reminded of his knowledge and honour of vision of Allah on the doomsday, it never leaves sin. None of these sermons and advices can prevent it from sin but only by the kindness of perfect spiritual guide. That is why it is said that mediation (of the spiritual guide) is better than excellence gained by knowledge. Only that spiritual guide can be considered as mediation who keeps his disciples away from sins through the invocation of Allah. Hadith:

Meaning: Invocation of Allah is the standard of faith, salvation from hypocrisy, fort against Satan and safety from hell fire. Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:

Whoever finds Me, he recognizes Me. Whoever recognizes Me, he begins 7

The angels who cross question the dead in the grave.

93 to love Me. Whoever loves Me, he becomes My lover. Whoever loves Me passionately, I kill him. Whoever I kill, his compensation is due on Me and I am Myself his compensation. The Holy Prophet said:

Meaning: One who desires anything and struggles for it, finds it.

Meaning: There are three kinds of death; death for the world, death for the hereafter and death for Allah. One who died in love of the world, died as a hypocrite; one who died in love of the hereafter, died as an ascetic while the one who died in love of Allah, died as a Mystic.

Meaning: Eyes do not cry due to illegitimate earning, illegitimate earning is due to excess of sins, the excess of sins is due to callous inward, inward turns callous by forgetting the death, one forgets death due to love of the world and love of world is the root cause of all sins. Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:

Sky is their roof and earth is their floor, knowledge is their companion and Allah is their Friend.

Meaning: Presence of My few special men in the world is like the blessing of rain. When it rains upon dry land it produces greenery and when it rains upon sea it produces pearls. The Holy Prophet said:

Meaning: Whatever is contained in the vessel, only that comes out of it.

CHAPTER 5 DISCUSSION ABOUT THE ULTIMATE DAWAT OF COURAGEOUS MEN WHICH FULFILS THE OBJECTIVE IMMEDIATELY Explanation of the way of meeting with the souls of all Prophets, Saints, Sufis and believers which makes the inward of men of Allah replete, is given. It does not require any power rather it is the job of dominant Saints. The people trapped in desires of innerself are incapable for it because conversing with the souls of Ghawth, Qutb, Fakir, Dervish, martyrs and winning soldiers in their shrines is not easy. Great secrets are revealed during dawat either through a voice from the hidden or a message from the souls or waham from the Essence. The Holy Prophet said:

ُ َ ْ َ ْ ُ ُ ْ ْ ُ ْ َّ َ َ َ ُْ َْ ‫ ِاذا تحیرتم فِی الامورِ ف‬ ِ‫است ِع ْینوْا ِم ْن اھ ِل الق ُبوْر‬

Meaning: When you are confused (or worried) about your affairs, just seek help from the dwellers of the shrines. If a seeker of Allah wants to recite dawat to resolve any of his worldly or religious issues, for invocation of Allah‟s name or for having presence in Mohammadan Assembly then he should visit shrine of a majestic Saint at night, like the shrine of a Ghawth, Qutb, perfect Dervish or a magnificent Fakir. The grave of such Saints is like a naked sword. Hadith:

96 Meaning: Verily! The Saints do not die, they just shift from one abode to another. (Kitab al-Ruh8, Sharh al-Sudoor9, Ayn al-Ilm wa Zain alHilm10)

First he should call azan near the grave and gain control over the soul by mounting the grave like one mounts a horse. Then he should call:

Meaning: O pious people of Allah! Please bless me with your presence for the sake of Oneness of Allah, honour of the Holy Prophet and the immortal Mystic Mohiyuddin Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani so that I may conquer. Then he has to take a knife in hand and recite chapter Yasin or Muzzammil of the Quran or any of the verses that he has learnt by heart. However this dawat is recited with inward power which only an expert can do. One who is proficient in it, does not need to set an enclosure or fear from demotion, supernatural agents or any hidden power as he possesses the status of:

ََ َْ )5<:66( ‫ لَا تخ ْف َو لَا تط َز ْن‬ Meaning: Do not feel afraid or grieved. (29:33) Such a person recites dawat just for jamiat of his inward and is not worried by anything. When he starts dawat in solitude, he instantly reaches the Throne, Chair, Tablet and the Pen. No mystic devotion is superior to this kind of dawat. If by reciting dawat and invoking Allah‟s name, the reciter‟s being does not convert into light and he

97 could not connect to the souls of Saints for whom he is reciting dawat neither could have assurance from them, then it is confirmed that he has no know-how of invocation or dawat. One who can recite such dawat is dominant over the numerologists and impressionists because he is the man of triumphs. This spiritual way is neither related with unveiling nor with miracles or ranks. It is attained from the man of Divine Essence who is annihilated in Allah and comprehensive of all benedictions by the power of Divine name Faqr. He is the man of perseverance who has reached the Essence and is permitted by the Holy Prophet to guide. On his order, the soul comes out of the grave like a snake comes out of earth or from its skin. When Prophet Jesus ordered the dead;

Meaning: Rise by Allah‟s command. The soul of dead conversed with him by the grace of Allah. Similarly when the soul converses with the reciter during dawat, he should take a covenant that it would come to him wherever he would call and inform him through inspiration about the matters discussed during dawat. No dawat is stronger than this kind of dawat. Whoever knows it, gets informed through the souls so much so that no reality of the universe remains concealed from him. The precondition for this dawat is that the reciter should be a man of inward pure of apprehensions and objections.

Meaning: If one invokes Allah‟s name by tongue but his inward remains attentive towards worldly possessions then such recitation has no effect.

98 The perfect spiritual guide who is ultimate proficient of dawat is the one whose beginning and finality is the same. He blesses the seeker of Allah with the greatest alphabet that is hidden in the thirty Arabic alphabets or with the greatest name of Allah which is concealed among the ninety nine beautiful names of Allah. The seeker cannot accomplish without the greatest alphabet and the greatest name even if he spends entire life in endeavours. All his efforts would be wasted and at the time of death he would regret. The spiritual guide from whom the seeker cannot gain powers and good fortune, esoterically as well as exoterically, is imperfect and unaccomplished.

‫وغث و بطق رمبک ادن ہت زری ابر‬ Meaning: I am the great rider! Ghawth and Qutb are my subordinates and like my ride. Spending one night in the shrine of an authoritative Saint near his grave is better than forty days seclusion and endeavours. An authoritative Saint is the one at whose door all the creations remain present as his obedient and the seven climes are under his authority, physically and spiritually.
