e l l o I am a passionate designer and an aspirant in fine arts & architectural p h o t o g r a p h y. H a v i n g approached my study of architecture from an artistic background, I am greatly inspired by architecture that is abstract & minimal, yet immensely decent. My ultimate goal is to express my perspective in designs for benefit of the communities. enjoy the tour!
p e r s o n a l S tat e m e n t have developed an intense passion for architectural design over the years of my studies. My academic world has helped me understand architecture not just as ‘the abstract’ or ‘the actual,’ but paradoxically as both. It is the nature of design that connects the abstract with the actual.
i
I have pursued architecture as an art of endless thrill of imagination, exploration, creation; as an ability to perceive the imagined, transformed into the definite. I always look forward to the creative spirit and challenges in the design environment. The creativity quotient inspires me to grow and expand my imagination, exploration & execution skills. The fact that architecture enhances community growth is intriguing. I’ve realized how influential the world of a r c h i t e c t u r e i s , a n d a s a d e s i g n e r, I g o t t o s t e p o u t i n t o t h e e x p e r i e n c e t o s e t a n e x a m p l e o f m y f l a i r. Architecture brings me into the fine space between f a n t a s y a n d r e a l i t y, a n d I s t r i v e t o b l u r t h e e d g e s between the two.

M ast e r - p l a n Concept The Arts, represented through t h e 3 e l e m e n t s o f n a t u r e – A i r, L a n d , Wa t e r. T h e 3 e l e m e n t s f o r m a s e n s e o f u n i t y. S i n c e t h e diverse range of human activities define Art, this can express an aesthetic variety offered to people in a creative lifestyle. Free-flowing, organic elements aren’t a must in nature-related concepts - art is abstract and simple abstraction and clear geometry would complement this idea within. By narrowing down abstract nature to Arts, we kind of move away from the conventional idea o f e x p re s s i n g i t t h ro u g h o p p o s i t e s (organic vs geometric).

T h e A r t s D i s t r i c t f e at u r e s Located within the Downtown, across the Burj Khalifa, the Arts District benefits from stunning views, a boardwalk that runs along the edge and the main boulevard street. The Central Plaza, encompassed by the 3 buildings, is an outdoor area that brings the functions out in connection with the lake and its surroundings and serves as an additional performance area at special events. The Ring of Restaurants run along the edges of the three buildings, on-looking the plaza - with on-grade parking and drop-off/ pick-up and additional basement parking.

Portal process schemes
Materials palette
P o r ta l F o r m D e v e lo p m e n t The design process begins with visualizing the portal as 3-dimensional form with multiple concentric ribs to create a tunnel-like passage. Starting off from an organic form, the process shapes into a more geometric form and cut open to create cross circulation. The roof and floors were supposed to symbolize the enclosure along the two horizontal planes that correspond to the opening vertical planes along the sides. Having the roof extend to form the wall and ribs, we created a unified structure, and to strengthen this, the lounge and seating areas are carved into t h e p o r t a l ’s r i b s . 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09

Design Concept T h e i d e a w a s t o t r a n s l a t e t h e u n i v e r s i t y ’s s l o g a n ‘your portal to Canadian education’ into a 3-dimensional extruded form. The panels along the wall of the kiosk continue to change and progress in shape and size, as the user moves along the ‘portal,’ into a defined box form. The profile of the wall panels are raised as they reach the end wall - symbolic of reaching the end of a portal.
S u s ta i n a b i l i t y Materials are primarily reclaimed timber & press-boards formed into panels and shaped into the form of the ribs. Reused building materials minimize the environmental impact. The opening along the walls on all sides allow for cross ventilation and surrounding lighting.

Ribs flexibility schemes
Lighting Design The artificial lighting is programmed to increase in intensity & ambiance in a wave pattern that runs along the portal (fitted between the ribs) that gives a visitors a sensory experience of moving along a portal, not only in terms of its structure, but also the complement by its lighting design.
