About me
SUMIN’s Responsibility I am a dedicated and highly motivated designer with a passion for responsible design. I have over 14 years’ experience working as an interior designer and I have completed my MA in design from Northumbria University for which I have been awarded a distinction grade on last December. Through this study, I have discovered my new possibility as a designer. I have studied “Responsibility of Designers’ during my postgraduates study. Because I was concerned about the need to recognize designer’s role and responsibility whilst working in design field. I had tried to define them accurately. As the result, I suggested a ‘New Design Process’ which is Responsible Design Process. This thesis will prove to be a greatest asset that can play a major role in making creative, innovative designs after my return to interior design field. I believe that designer’s role and responsibility is to find real value of the future through understanding consequences of the decision-making.

Ref: Sumin Park 1st March 2016 Dear Sir/Madam, I was Sumin’s supervisor throughout her Masters degree. I found her hard working, empathic and caring. Sumin is ambitious and a good manager of her work. Throughout her Masters she was keen to learn and improve, and I can confirm that she did very well in all her projects. She went above and beyond and stretched her knowledge and competence in her final semester’s investigation. She built a very sound explanation of ‘responsibility’ in design. Sumin was rigorous, unbiased and critical with the data and this led to her publishing her work with the AllenMaCarthur Foundation. Her publication was well received and I was very pleased with her contribution. In addition to delivering an excellent Masters thesis, she also collaborated with a PhD student in a publication. The collaborative paper has now been accepted in one of the most renowned conferences in design called the design research society conference 2016. Sumin has been invited along with the PhD student to present the paper to a wide range of audience. Sumin has made a very good impression at Northumbria. She is a very motivated individual who does not just work for her but also engages with the betterment of her peers. I think she would be an asset to any organisation. I wish her the best of luck. Responsible Design Process Proposal New Design Process Eight phases & sub steps
New design process is consisted of eight phases which are Discover, Analysis, Define, New understanding, Design Concept, Develop, Evaluation, Deliver through combining various interior design processes and ‘Double Diamond model’ built by Design council. This proposal will be delivered to the current designers through ‘Responsible Design Diary’, and it defines the scope of designer’s responsibility and will guide design process. It concludes the design process that part of the roles, could be considered as a guideline to define designer’s responsibility and obligation. So the design process must be inspected, and the change of current designers are required.

Responsible Design Diary 8 phases & sub steps
This diary will provide a guidance to perform all design stages from the initial phase to the implementation phase. Through this diary, a design project is segregated into eight phases and in each phase there will be sub-stages. It is not necessary to follow each phase as it may not be suitable for certain design projects. However, the phases in this diary will provide aid for designers keeping records, making progress, evaluating and reflecting on their own design. Designers will solve numerous problems faced in a design process utilising various methods and tools provided in the diary. There are pages dedicated for doodling, colouring, mind map drawing and many more to help designers refresh their heads and hopefully boost their creativity during a break time.

Responsible Design
DIF ( Disruptive Innovation Festival) 2015:
The Understanding Consequences of the decision-making
The Disruptive Innovation Festival is curated by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and in 2015 took place over three weeks from 2nd - 20th November, 2015. Over three weeks, using a mix of online and face to face events, participants had an abundance of opportunities to explore the economy through a different lens. I would like to share all of my passion for responsible design and I had participated in DIF 2015 with Responsible Design Diary Project. I contributed with a video which was combined stop motion with slide show. In order to make the video, I made storyboard and drew all of characters. This video can be find in Northumbria research Link.

I played the role as a general manager with overall responsibility for this project such as design’s proposal, meeting with clients, supervision of construction. This space was renovated to give differentiated services to VIP customers. The main goal was using the limited space effectively. The solution was to distinguish the hall into two spaces without any wall. It achieved through differentiation of materials. This line also solved the problem that space has a low ceiling. The long line looked like widely deeper space than real.

The interior design was used color points on each floor to express the characteristic of each team with minimized decoration and focused on the essentiality of the architecture. Most of materias are reusable, recycable and usable in the long term. Moreover, the layout was flexible for change of number of crews.
Joongbo Design would like to build their HQ office in order to establish their corporate identity as an advanced interior design agency. This project aimed to create a flexible space and to go together with surround context. The project has collaborated with Gonggam Architecture. The project was much more difficult to make a decision than others. I needed to play two roles of user & designer. I’ve taken a very cautious approach. For this reason, I could create a valuable space for my colleagues.

The Sample Branch of KEB New design Guide book & a sample branch
The first new branch of KEB Banking was developed by Joongbo as a pilot project. The starting point for this project was Bank’s corporate identity, above all the modernized logo of KEB in its dynamic color version for Banking sector – blue, white and grey, which created a set of basic colors for the interior. Corporate colors of KEB – blue and white – have been applied with full consequence, further complemented by covering of wood panel. The designer has taken an specific way to play with the tones of blue which are set in the interior.
