Research & Innovation

Summa Health supports the Research & Innovation enterprise with over $3 million to ensure the advancement of science. We continuously seek to transform the care we provide and generate the knowledge needed for the breakthrough medical advancements and treatments of tomorrow. Summa has more than 130 active clinical studies with more than 500 active patients.

The system supports the efforts of our physicians and staff through the Clinical Research Center, which is an outpatient clinic with a centralized staffing model that supports all clinical trials across the system. In 2022, we were awarded $3.5 million in new grant money and are currently managing more than 30 open grants. Our physicians, fellows/residents and nurses published almost 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Our most active research specialties include Oncology, Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Trauma and Behavioral Health, and many at the system have collaborative research efforts with our academic regional partners, such as Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), the University of Akron and Kent State University.
