Biosphere 1

The Earth

The Earth, which provides all things living and thriving on it, is the Biosphere 1.

Biosphere 1

Natural Order

Biosphere 1: Natural Order, landscapes dominated by natural processes. This order is totally controlled by nature making countless fantastic masterpiece, until human began to add their orders in this system. However, some of human orders are good, like the cities they created is good for human to share resources of the Earth, but some human orders damaged and ruined the Earth. "Desert" Plaster model 04

An Experiment

Biosphere 2 is an Earth systems science research facility located in Oracle, Arizona. It has been owned by the University of Arizona since 2011.Biosphere 2 is an experiment with controlled ecosystems in glass facility/dome. Biosphere 2 Oracle, Arizona

Human Order

Biosphere 2: Human Order, landscapes controlled by human processes But, Nature could. There is an end to human, but not to the nature. Some of human orders are good, like the cities they created are good for human to share resources of the Earth, but some human orders damaged and ruined the Earth. "Failiure" Plaster model 04

There is an end to human, but not to the nature. So, what is the next of Biosphere, and as landscape architects, what kind of landscape order could do to make all things thrive on the Earth? Plaster model 07: "Natural Order"

ISTANBUL IS CONSTANTINOPLE

In Istanbul, people can touch the ruins of a civilization that is over 2500 years old. There is an old but fantastic water system allowing this old city thriving for thousands of years. Since AD 373 the emperor Valens welcomed the waters of Thrace to the city of Constantinople. This water system, which including canals, bridges, aqueducts and fountains, allowed people to use water conveniently and provided the foundation for city development. Galata Tower Istanbul,Turkey

In AD 373 the emperor Valens welcomed the waters of Thrace to the city of Constantinople, brought by a new aqueduct that still today bears his name.More than 30 stone water bridges and many kilometers of underground tunnels carried the water over mountain and plain from the plentiful springs of the Istranja mountain range near Vize derectly to the heart of the city .

Later, they abandoned this for modern pumping. This is just like nature gave human lives, and when they grew up they began to abandon nature, destroy and damage it.

However, nature did not abandon this water system; she took over it, when humanity has abandoned it. She called vegetation and wildlife to recreate and reclaim the water system. This is the way of nature has done it for life. All things thrive relying on this system, because of the presence of water in these systems. The way nature use vegetation to take over the abandoned water system is nature respects life and water.

What if nature deprived the privilege from people and conquered the city, which is made by people? There was an uninterrupted nature. But this is a meaningless situation. We cannot ignore the existence of human civilization. Could human practice landscape of the city in the way that Nature would? Then the city could be a place that serves humans and all things thriving in this endless cycle. "Thrive" Plaster model 03

LAS VEGAS IS LAS VEGAS

Humanity order did not help this place a lot, on the contrary, Humanity made it a desert and a desert of concrete since people overused the water to build the city. Humanity made it a desert, a desert of automobiles and a desert of human sins. Goledn Nugget Photograph Las Vegas, U.S.

Transportation system is the infrasturacture of Istanbul city. Parking structures are the terminal of the water system In November, we drove from Tempe to Las Vegas. Golden Nugget was our first stop at Vegas. Las Vegas has all the best and the worst thing. It shows human sins and civilization. Like other American cities, the whole city relies on cars.

Mankind is always chasing the newest things, one day in the future Humanity will abandon this transportation system, and Nature will take over these systems again. Nature will redefined the parking structure, to the whole transportation system. Photo-montage Landscape Order Las Vegas Blvd

Biosphere 3

Landscapse Order

Biosphere 3: Landscape Order, human landscapes reclaimed by natural processes The Landscape order is the fusion of natural and human orders, and it is the achievement made by humanity and nature made. Landscape functions as a new and necessary layer to urban space, which makes all things thrive. "Biosphere 3" Photo-montage

Biosphere 3 An exsisting built environment witwith an abandoned automobile reclaimed by ecosystem process. This project explores how to practice landscaping landscape forms using the way nature does, in order to make a more harmonious and sustainable environment for both humans and the ecosystem. To explore the resilience of a city in the future, to find a better way of making the fusion of Human and Natural orders for landscape architecture in the future. "Biosphere 3" Plaster model 01

To learn from the natural process is a very important part of this project. Pioneer species is the way that Nature takes over the spaces. Some of my plaster model got bacteria on it, which is like the Canyon erosion process, where Lichen, mosses, and bacteria (desert varnish) use their way to take over the rocks. This is just a start of the next step.
