VIRTUAL RECAP 2020

The 2020 Baltimore Running Festival was a bit different than what past runners experienced. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Baltimore RunFest, along with countless other running events world wide, ran 100% virtually. Participants made the most of the new normal and the race introduced two new distances to the mix.

With social distancing requirements in place the team relay was converted to an individual 10K. New to the line up was a 26.2 Mile Challenge event where runners covered the marathon distance over the course of 17 days to earn their shirt and medal. To drive home the STRONGER TOGETHER theme that the race adopted, all participants regardless adopted, all participants regardless of distance received the same medal and the same shirt. A boisterous and festive community developed on the event’s Facebook developed on the event’s Facebook page where runners could share their stories and experiences.

On race day Baltimore Oriole legend Brooks Robinson kicked off the race virtually. Runners received a paper finish line with their packet which prompted countless photos and social shares. countless photos and social shares.

While the race was not the same, 2020 did prove that the running community is like no other and supports one another even from afar. supports one another even from afar.
