Living in Idyllwild comes with a pile of acronyms the average person finds too tedious to sort out. Here is a quick rundown of the most common local organizations and their acronyms.
Governmental Groups/Public Agencies

CSA 36 County Service Area 36
Funded by a parcel tax paid by Idyllwild property owners for recreation and street lights. An advisory council is appointed by the county supervisor as a conduit between Idyllwild and the county.
CSA 38 County Service Area 38
Funded by a parcel tax paid by Pine Cove property owners for ambulance and fire service. An advisory council is appointed by the county supervisor as a conduit between Pine Cove and the county.
HUSD Hemet Unified School District
The public school district for Idyllwild, Pine Cove and Mountain Center.
IFPD Idyllwild Fire Protection District
Funded by property and parcel taxes paid by Idyllwild property owners for ambulance and fire service. A board of commissioners is elected by voters within the district to oversee the district.
IHPD Idyllwild Historical Preservation District
A board that reviews amendment applications for specific historical buildings in Idyllwild. A review board of directors is appointed by the county supervisor.
FVWD Fern Valley Water District
Funded by a parcel tax paid by Fern Valley property owners for water service. A board of directors is elected by property owners within the district to oversee the district.

Fire and Medical Service Agencies
IFPD See above for Idyllwild. As for Pine Cove, Riverside County provides ambulance service through American Medical Response, funded by property tax.
Cal Fire California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
Cal Fire refers to the state fire department that provides wildfire and paramedic services on all lands within our area. In Riverside County, Cal Fire contracts with the county to provide fire and paramedic services, so Riverside County Fire is often interchanged with Cal Fire in conversation. Funded by property tax
MAST Mountain Area Safety Taskforce
MAST is a coalition of local, state and federal government agencies, private companies and volunteer organizations in San Bernardino and Riverside counties working together to prevent catastrophic wildfires.
MSJCCD Mt. San Jacinto Community College District
A single-college multi-campus district with five campuses: San Jacinto, Banning, Menifee and two in Temecula.
USFS U.S. Forest Service
One of its branches is our federal fire department that provides wildfire services on National Forest lands.
Other than being our federal fire department, this agency handles such things as recreation, law enforcement, land issues and forest health on National Forest lands.

AAI Art Alliance of Idyllwild
A nonprofit organization with membership of artists and art lovers who produce annual events and raise money to support local art education.

EMD Emergency Management Department (formerly Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services)
The official volunteer communications arm of the Riverside County Office of Emergency Service. Operates under the auspices of FEMA for disaster communications and the U.S. Forest Service for fire patrol.
GVPOA Garner Valley Property Owners Association
A private association with rules and regulations for property owners in a particular zoned area of Garner Valley.
IAA Idyllwild Arts Academy
A private high school for arts and music students.
IAF Idyllwild Arts Foundation
The organization that provides an academy and summer program for the arts.
IAR/IAOR Idyllwild Association of Realtors
A membership-based Realtors association offering a Multiple Listing Service.
ICC Idyllwild Community Center
The site on Highway 243 where plans are underway to build a community center.
ICF Idyllwild Community Fund
A local advisory board recommends grants to local nonprofits under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
IIFC Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema

PEO Philanthropic Educational Organization
PEO is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College, and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
RMRU Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit
Trained volunteers in mountain rescues, working under the auspices of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
SJMCC San Jacinto Mountain Community Center
A private, nonprofit with a board of directors working to build and maintain the Idyllwild Community Center. Beneath the board are two commmittees: Programs and Activities Committee, formerly Idyllwild Community Recreation Council, that holds the deed for the ICC site; and Building Campaign Committee, working to raise money to build the ICC.
WNKI578 – 1610AM The call letters for our local emergency radio station at 1610 AM. Volunteers provide updates during emergencies, and tourist/local information is provided during non-emergencies.
