PIZZERIA Workshop Location: Margate / England Duration: 3 weeks Year: Spring 2016 The interiors of this project are a blend of tailor-made fixtures as well as geometric and organic shapes, inspired by the charm of old fashioned vintage pizzerias.

Design evolution

Intended to create a unique experience for diners, this pizzeria consists of enclosures for each table arranged in a way that every diner can have a private view of the baking process uninterrupted.

Materials Margate is a seaside town in east England that relatively experiences a colder climate; therefore, the aim was to choose materials that gives a feeling of warmth and soothing interiors. For this, white clay and wood were the main materials employed to build the space with terrazzo as flooring surface. The pizza oven is the main centerpiece made of multiple ovens combined together as a monolithic structure. White clay was widely used in early times as it warms up quickly and the material is more durable in comparison to terracotMOOD BOARD

FOREST HILL RESORT Thesis Project Location: Shimla / India Duration: 1 semester Year 5, 2014 Site Plan Restaurant and Spa Cottages Reception

The cottages at Forest Hill Resort offers a peaceful retreat for guests visiting this 5 acre site, located in the idyllic surroundings occupied by beautiful green lawns and gardens with the growth of oak and pine trees. The idea behind designing is based on three key values: •

to develop an ecologically sensitive and site responsive resort;

to keep alive visitor’s interest at every junction by providing suitable breaks throughout circulation channel;

simple and unimposing built forms with an informal planning.

Site is divided into 3 zones namely restaurant- spa block, cottages and admin. block, following contours of the hill and without cutting the hill slope.

Floor plan: restaurant at level 1

The restaurant block, a double storey structure with a “combination roof”, stands in proud contrast to other structures. It is situated at the top of the hill, i.e.; the ridge so that the guests can enjoy the magnificent view of the entire resort while dining. The club offers entertainment for

Cottages The accomodation options are: a) standard - 5 b) deluxe - 15 and c) family cottages - 5. The form of the cottages is derived from a combination of square and rectangle. The main entrance is directly through the door which opens in the living room. In the cottages, the fireplace in the living room heats up all the adjoining rooms through metal air-containers kept by the side of the fire place. All the rooms command panoramic view. All cottages have a very simple and direct circulation. It has two parts- first is the circulation among the bedrooms toilet and other dining, kitchen. The building blocks are so molded with the general landscape expression that it gives the feeling of total unity. The structure gives meaning to the site as it is imposed on a sloping site, it belongs to both sky and earth.
