Homeownership Challenges for Under-served Communities Senator Harris called for amending the Fair Credit Reporting Act that requires credit reporting agencies to include payments of rent, cellphone bills, and utilities when calculating credit scores. There are an estimated 26 million people who are “credit invisible” and another 19 million who are said to have “unscorable” files, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. These people don’t have enough bank or credit union accounts to have a credit score by today’s standards. These were the talking points at Essence Music Festival 2019. It is a welcome development for those who need the help. Unless you have an advisory team of people who work in the system and are in the trenches with the constituents, you will have guidelines and procedures that look good on paper, but do not accomplish the goals they were set to meet.

Later in life, I grasped the understanding that winter is a transitional month. The perspective of it is to understand that it must take place; some things must die so that newness can be birthed in its proper season. It is the same with matters that we leave unattended and unsettled in our hearts. When we allow unsettled matters to cause our hearts to become cold and we never allow the warmth of love to penetrate, matters that should die live on and unfortunately, we never sprout into newness. These unsettled matters of the heart, better known as offenses, may transpire from insults, attacks, division, separation, broken relationships, or betrayal. Spirituality/Motivation

Every now and then, we find ourselves in a lifechanging situation that causes us to think about the who, what, when, where, how and why of life. It could be the loss of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, or even starting a new chapter by becoming an entrepreneur; there is something that causes us to pause, reflect and take note of what we need to do differently to achieve the results we desire. There is something I have heard in a number of circles, and I’m sure you have too, and that is to not get ready but to be ready. Well, we all know that we can’t change the past, but we can be intentional about our future.

YIELD: Lastly, I must yield…yield to ourselves. In this space, it is okay to be somewhat selfish, because if you aren’t any good for yourself, you can’t be good for anyone else. Remind yourself that “NO” is a one-word sentence and your goals should be a primary focus. Yield to those things that add, multiply and enhance the life you have set your eyes on. So, in essence, being ready is all about focusing on you. Focusing on what makes you thrive and that which truly fulfills you. It’s your life to live, so stop simply existing and go live it!

The Power of Collaboration Over Extreme Competition

Simene’ Walden

In an era where everything is available with the click of a mouse and over 1.86 billion monthly users on Facebook alone, we are exposed to information by the seconds.

T

here is a lot of sharing, discussing, commenting, posting, and down-

loading going on all across the world. There are advantages to it all while it can prove to be problematic for others. Anytime the purpose of a thing is not defined, abuse is inevitable. There are some individuals who are innately resilient, go-getters, and hard workers. If the drive and passion that they have is not put into proper perspective and nurtured, it can become problematic. One of the biggest issues that can be seen with social media is the forward. 1. Decide that you don’t want to compete with people on an extreme level, but comparison trap. I wholeheartedly believe it does not start with social media but an inward issue and social media enhances what is already there. For the love of acceptance, people start to compete with people who are not even in their lane even those whom they have never met at any time. That can be a deadly trap and if you don’t recognize it early, it can kill anything you desire to

collaborate to share ideas that can have a greater reach. 2. Pray and ask God who to work with. You can’t work with everybody and that is true within our own families, ministries, and businesses, but that does not mean you are to be mean, nasty, rude, or backbiting either. It simply means working with them is not a wise decision. Ideologies, approaches, and timing just may not work at that moment and timing is everything. 3. Be ready to lead. Everyone wants the position and title until it’s time to lead. There is hard work associated with promotion and growth. 4. Be open to ideas and suggestions from others while being led by God. Be
