This basically means that there’s something magical about the birth of a baby that warms people’s hearts and creates a generosity of spirit or willingness to help lessen the load in whatever way possible for the new parents.

At Dis-Chem, we also want to make the parenthood journey easier for you in whatever way we can. Our in-store Dis-Chem Well Baby Clinics provide preventative health care for all babies and toddlers. Professional nurses are on hand to offer a wide range of services and provide expert advice to help you take all the right baby steps to ensure that your bundle of joy remains happy and healthy.

AND there’s a Mom & Baby Clinic inside every Dis-Chem Baby City store, offering services for mom and for baby.

Clinic Services include:

For Mom: full antenatal services, 2D sonar scans, foetal dopplers, birth plans, postnatal care, breastfeeding advice, female health check-ups including pap smears.

For Baby: feeding in the first six months, sterilising, weaning and introducing solids, preventing rashes and possible allergies, teething, treatment of colic, potty training, immunisations, baby weight, measurement and development assessments.

In 2022, Baby City became part of the Dis-Chem Group, which meant that we could extend the Loyalty and Benefit Programme into Dis-Chem Baby City stores. We strive to deliver within 3 days from when your order has been successfully placed and paid for. There are a few exceptions. We are reliant on couriers to deliver our orders outside of main centres. Please allow for additional time for non-metropolitan and remote areas.

With the country’s growing poverty, malnutrition, and lack of primary healthcare, the Dis-Chem Foundation was founded in 2006 to improve the lives of individuals while alleviating the burden on struggling communities.

We are the “pharmacists who care” and it was only natural to extend this philosophy to our loyalty and rewards offering, the Dis-Chem Benefit Programme, which links directly to the Dis-Chem Foundation.

With your help over the years, the Dis-Chem Foundation has supported well-known initiatives such as clinics and mobile clinics, Smile Week, Reach for a Dream and Million Comforts, with a focus also on balanced nutrition in early childhood development.

Some current Dis-Chem Foundation humanitarian initiatives include:

• A number of soup kitchens we contribute to on a monthly basis; for example, 300 people are fed daily at Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen in Johannesburg and 1000 people eat every day at Magda se Sop Kombuis in Cape Town.

• The destruction and loss faced by the communities in KZN during the 2022 floods impacted many lives. The Dis-Chem Foundation and the Humanitarian Empowerment Fund (HEF) worked hard to ensure that food parcels, water, toiletries and other basic essentials reached destitute families in disaster-struck areas, starting with a community in ward 19 near Pinetown who were in dire need of assistance.

• Together with FutureLife, we’re providing 150 000 nutritious meals each month to children in need.

• We’ve partnered with Pediatric Care Africa to provide healthcare and protection to vulnerable children.

• In the 2022 Million Comforts campaign, we collected more than 10 million sanitary pads to help keep girls in school; an endeavour we’ve now been part of for over a period of 8 years (and counting).

• The first beneficiary for Dis-Chem Baby City was the Maletsatsi Foundation Rescue Centre for Babies and Toddlers, where we donated much-needed cot and nursery essentials, plus an ongoing st

What is Dis-Chem Health?

Affordable healthcare that provides Day-to-Day, Accident and Gap Cover for you and your family, insured by Centriq Insurance Company Limited.

How we make a difference?

The goal of Dis-Chem Health is to make private healthcare affordable to all South Africans through Dis-Chem’s extensive pharmacy and clinic network.

What is Medical Insurance?

Medical insurance is a type of insurance that you take up, in order for day-to-day medical expenses to be covered in the event that you need medical care and attention. The benefit of having medical insurance is that it allows you to take care of your health without worrying about the medical cost.

Medical insurance does not offer the same benefits as a medical aid and is not a substitute for it. However, medical insurance is a worthwhile option if you cannot afford medical aid. The Day-to-Day plans cover healthcare costs including private doctors, private dentists, medicine and more. Accident Cover is also available, so you can look after your family in the case of an accidental emergency, heart attack or stroke. Accident Cover includes emergency casualty visits, treatment for accidents in a private hospital, ambulance services and stabilisation.

What is Gap Cover?

Gap Cover is short-term insurance that covers the tariff shortfalls between what in-hospital treatments and medical procedures cost, and the amount that medical aids actually pay out. Dis-Chem Health Gap Cover is only available to existing members of any South African registered medical aid and provides additional cover of up to 500% of the medical aid rates for tariff shortfalls.

What is included in Value Added Services?

Value Added Services include Lifestyle Benefits, like family, legal and financial counselling as well as the extra by Dis-Chem rewards programme. These benefits are available to Policyholders that have chosen to add Value Added Services to their policies at an additional fee.

What is extra?

Introducing extra, a rewards programme that gives Dis-Chem Health policyholders access to an immediate 20% discount on a variety of healthy and essential products, 365 days a year.
