【Function Diagram】 This designed made a special focus on association with the metasequoia grove and matched the landscape and architecture with its requirements of the forests, creating a beautiful living environment whilst becoming a part of the metasequoia grove landscape zone.

Concept

Two blocks are apart when there is no bus. When the school bus is time to go, the blocks attach together and the space increase. The sketches are the way the blocks change.

Move Mode

I hope the building is capable of moving like the metasequoia forests change throughout the year. Because this project is a school bus waiting room, the change of the people flow is based on the school bus schedule. Thus the flow of people is defined as the cause of the change of blocks.

Although the function of this building is quite simple, but it is the designed space which can change with the time goes by that realize the communications between interior space and forests space and such mutual echoing between the buildings and the environment surrounding.

Yangshan Deepwater Port

DRIPPING LAKE

The Base is one of the largest ports in Shanghai before. It was once very busy everyday here. The shore was filled with cranes and containers. Due to the construction of the new and the subway, the port has moved to somewhere else. The busy port has become a scenic seaside resort now. BEFORE

NOW

The base is located in Yangshan Deepwater Port area, close to the site of former port. In the base, there retains many original dock facilities. Local residents is composited of aboriginal, most of them are old people, and young people who come here to work. Site Conditions】 The site is located in Huaihai Road which is one of the most famous commercial centers in Shanghai. It plays the vital commercial and cultural role, where there are a range of department stores and historic buildings nearby.

SITE

According to the site conditions and the developed community, commercial district and business district surrounding, not only should we propose the project adapted to environment, but also we should satisfy the maximum economic benefit.

【Surrounding】

My vision is that make use of the unique position to work with the surrounding buildings and offer new and unique experience for Huaihai road block.

The logic that the high-rise grows is to constantly cut the plane with same angle. It forms a arc from top to bottom and the extension of the arc intersects the main road at the center of the crossroads.

20

Considering the element, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, beside the base, a pedestrian street with the theme of music is set up and divides the base into two parts. The entrance of street is on the main road - Huaihai Road, welcome people to get into it. The entrance of the street, the square facing the intersection, the center of the high-rise and the end of the street are like four circles echoing each other.

HongQiao Airport

The base is located near HongQiao transportation hub, north and south sides belong to two districts. On the one hand, existing industrial storage facilities and the old village residential area mixed in this region, showing the typical appearance of the ruralurban fringe zone. On the other hand, the construction of the HongQiao transportation hub, elevated roads, subways and other transportation facilities have brought tremendous opportunities for development and impulse for change to the region.

Public

Space & Greenbelt Distribution Map】 We believe that this region has the natural advantages of logistics and transportation and the disadvantages of the big noise caused by the airplanes which made the region unsuitable for people to live. Combined with the characteristic that it lack of public spaces and greenbelts, and two reasons mentioned above, our vision for this region is that a huge logistics and transportation ring will be built on this region and under the ring, there are variety of public spaces with different functions. Of course, the original storage facilities and village will be reserved.

Area 3

Region B is mainly consist of the seafood market and derivatives markets. I divided the whole area into three parts. Area 1, shops of 2-3 layers along the street, including restaurants, grocery stores, free markets and so on. Business activity might pervade the streets, having a relationship with people and create an interesting space. Area 2, large complex. They can be connected to the upper part of the logistics warehouse. Part of the roof is capable to people. Blocks are connected by corridors, and commercial streets are formed under the corridors. Area 3, detached villa nearby the river. With the open vision and pleasant scenery, the buildings can be used as a upscale restaurants or holiday villas.

The aim of this project is to explore different materials' properties, and make a stand for display study. This is not a building material in the traditional sense, but in the process of exploration, we f one using for decoration. Using this material as the main one, with PVC pipes (stainless steel pipes), we try to build a smallthe model has a certain load-bearing capacity, which can be used as a display shelf. Then w wanted to render a gallery with a reflective effect ceiling.

Load-bearing test】 We experimented by increasing bricks gradually to test the weight bearing capacity of the model. It was found that the model that shaped as an arch is stronger than the sheet one. The reason is that the sheet type model is unstable. It fell down during the experiment and was damaged by the bricks. 36

-scale model and take a load-bearing test. It came out that we spent amounts of CD again producing a 1: 1 model. We

【Concept】

First, we used three pipes to make a skeleton. Then, considering that all the CDs have a hole in the middle, we take advantage of this characteristic to attach a group of CDs to the pipes. The mode of the CDs can be shaped as an arch or connected into a sheet. We would have the load-bearing test on both two types.

37

【Plan of The Gallery】

【Unit Body Model】

The whole corridor is composed of unit body. These unit bodies have same structure, but can vary in size and height. Plus, with the droop caused by gravity, the model looks like a mountain ups and downs.

【Parameterized model】

38

From the parametric model we can see that the whole exhibition space is covered by CDs, just like a mirror house, which have built a very good reflection effect. Besides, the CDs inserted on the pipes can be used as a shelf to place some exhibits.

It took us a long time to build the 1:1 scale model. We finally built two large unit bodies and two small one. Those could be connected to a channel formed model. CDs were all connected by hand with wires or screws. We had difficulties attaching the CDs and the pipes. With the guidance of professor and the effort of several tests, we succeeded at last.
