MOMENTUM was built in C&C’s Custom Shop (boats from this shop have been referred to as “Bruckmann built”). This family continues to build custom yachts in Canada. Momentum follows the lineage of the custom C&C 44 race program and is the sistership of “Silver Shadow”. Momentum was built in 1985 for ocean racing and her construction includes features not found on production boats such as: • • • • •
Kevlar reinforced hull. Carbon fiber wrapped stringers. Glassed hull to deck joint. Semi elliptical shaped lead keel.(see Photo 3) Heavy duty tie rods to transfer rig loads to the hull.(see Photo 7)
Momentum has been in fresh water since 1987 when she participated in the Chicago to Mackinaw Island race (a 333 mile rhumb line distance) and reached the Island in 40 hours. She was purchased by her current owner in 1992, who never raced her. (Not sailed hard and put away wet) Her interior has recent upgrades and now sports a cruise friendly interior. Under her VC-17 bottom paint are 5 coats on Interlux 2000 barrier coat.
