WELCOME TO SUN PEAKS Dear Guests, On behalf of the residents of Sun Peaks, I am pleased to welcome you to our home. We hope your vacation in Sun Peaks will exceed your highest expectations. If you should have any issues during your stay, please inform your accommodation hosts to make sure they can address your concerns. Our goal is to make sure your vacation is a positive and remarkable experience. Please enjoy yourselves and give us your feedback so we can continue to improve the Sun Peaks experience. We are entering our sixth season as a Resort Municipality. We now have a very unique school that serves the children and young adults of Sun Peaks. The school is located at the top of the village platter lift so you may see the students skiing and boarding to school each morning or out practising their slope skills over recess. This year, we have a new classroom for the high school students located next door to the medical clinic in the main parking lot. From our first year in 2010 with just 16 students, we now have nearly 100 students from kindergarten to Grade 12. The community is growing! We had a busy summer. A new walking and biking trail along the main road between the Burfield area and the village is now available. We are pleased to offer a new refrigerated NHL-sized outdoor ice skating facility located near the Sport Centre. We have rental skates, sticks and available hours for special groups. We are expanding our Health Centre to better service guests and residents. Regrettably, with the early fall snows, the new facility will be delayed until November 2017. Our present modest facility is still available in the meantime. It is located at the far side of the main parking lot and the new location will be between Bento’s and the Ski Club cabin. Each year, we are expanding services for residents and guests as part of our vision to become Canada’s best mountain resort town. With recent terrain expansion, we are now Canada’s second largest ski area as measured by available ski terrain. We know to be one of the best mountain resorts anywhere, we must be one of the best mountain communities and we are committed to making Sun Peaks stronger. If you are new to Sun Peaks, please take advantage of the complimentary Sun Host program. These volunteers will show you the terrain that best suits your ability level. This is a great experience so please do not miss out. They leave each morning and afternoon from in front of the Village Day Lodge. For the more aggressive skiers, please remember that we have the friendliest locals anywhere. Don’t be surprised when they say “Hello” or offer to take you on a run or two in their favourite powder stashes. Even on busy powder days, there are always a few spots where fresh tracks can be found late in the day. As Mayor of Sun Peaks, I am obligated each day to test as many runs as possible. I’m always happy to have a run or two with you, so please don’t be shy. Catch me at the base of the Sundance chair; I am usually there at 8:30 each morning. I am always pleased to hear from guests about their experiences and to listen to any suggestions. See you on the slopes, Mayor Al Raine Sun Peaks Visitors’ Guide 2016-17
