Throughout 2016, we have participated in the industry’s most important marine shows worldwide, hosted luxury lifestyle events like the Pomorskie Rendez Vous, started the construction process of a spectacular 88ft Double Deck sailing superyacht to be launched in 2017, but most importantly we introduced a game-changing range of motor and sailing leisure catamarans – the Sunreef Supreme 68 – a concept awarded at the World Yachts Trophies gala in Cannes. One of the Sunreef Yachts key focuses last year was the development of the company's brokerage and dealership network. A strategy to be continued in 2017. This evolution of our sales channels will allow us to reach out to even more customers around the world and respond to the needs of all those looking for a innovative, customized alternative to monohull yachts. The night of the World Yachts Trophies

Organized by the Yachts France Magazine, the World Yachts Trophies reward the best of the latest luxury boating industry innovations. Industry professionals, yacht owners and shipyard executives have been participating in this event for more than 10 years.

Introduced in 2016, the revolutionary concept of the power and sailing multihulls – the Sunreef Supreme 68 – revisits the way catamarans have been so far designed. With 300m² of living space, the Sunreef Supreme 68 offers the surface of a superyacht on a unit below 24m. A new radical shape of the superstructure allows to keep the saloon and exterior deck on the same level.

The award was received by Sunreef Yachts representatives: Founder and President – Francis Lapp, Director of the Design Office at Sunreef Yachts – Nicolas Lapp and Marketing Director at Sunreef Yachts – Karolina Paszkiewicz, all present on the event’s stage next to the Carlton Hotel’s beach on September 10th, 2016.

As a result, the Sunreef Supreme boasts an enormous main room surrounded with floor to ceiling glass – a smooth, seamless space opening onto the cockpit and giving direct access to the deck through folding doors on both sides of the yacht. The model comprises additionally an aft garage with a door creating a beach platform after opening. All the Sunreef Supreme 68 are fully personalized in terms of interior layout, finishing and technical equipment. Up till now the company sold 7 units of this model with 3 launches completed, including one power and two sailing yachts.

Long awaited and carefully crafted in every detail at the company’s shipyard in Gdansk, Poland, luxury power catamaran Athena, named after the Greek goddess of wisdom, is a continuation of the Sunreef Supreme philosophy, focusing on innovative solutions and luxury lifestyle onboard. Athena is a private 21m motor unit with genuine superyacht features and a simply unbelievable living space equaling 300m². This white-hulled beauty is also equipped with an aft garage which is implemented on all of the Sunreef Supreme units. This solution is a truly revolutionary feature on a catamaran under 70 feet. Her flybridge, the company’s trade mark, is topped with an elegant bimini and features a navigation station, a bar, a dining table and mattresses. The yacht features a powerful Volvo IPS 1050 system for a maximum of maneuverability and optimized performance. During technical tests and sea trials in difficult weather conditions, the yacht reached an impressive 23 knots of speed. An additional joystick and aft cameras are installed to ease the mooring in crowded marinas. With 7000L of fuel capacity, Athena enjoys all the autonomy she needs to cross the Atlantic. Shortly after Athena’s launch and tests, the company completed the construction of the second Sunreef Supreme poweryacht. 

Sunreef Yachts is famous for designing and manufacturing bespoke multihulls with over 60ft in length. Every launch tells a different captivating story. When a new catamaran sees the day at the company’s shipyard, it always expresses a specific vision and her Owner’s personality. Diana was ordered by a retired Californian businessman – Dr George Lopez – founder of a billion dollar company, successful with many significant medical inventions.

When Dr Lopez started to think about switching from his 62ft monohull to a bigger yacht, he engaged in numerous discussions with his family members and Ian McIntosh – skipper sailing with the Lopez family since the 90’s. “As the family grew up, the limitations of a 62ft monohull became increasingly apparent and on every trip, the family conversations turned to the topic of a bigger yacht. Initially we were focused on monohulls in the 120 feet range, but Doc (Doctor Lopez) insisted that he wished to stay with a shallow draft yacht capable of being managed by a small crew, so we started talking seriously about building a catamaran. (…) I even remember saying in a meeting years ago that “it would be even better if it had a fly-bridge.” A short search on the Internet brought me to the realization that a gentleman by the name of Francis Lapp had explored the exact same concept and was in fact building fly-bridge catamarans in Gdansk, Poland. Thus started our relationship with Sunreef Yachts. We were patient, waiting out the 70 series, until Sunreef designed a yacht that combined true sailing performance with the comfortable living conditions that catamarans are renowned for,” recalls Ian McIntosh, who later managed the Diana project on the Owner’s behalf.

Dr Lopez decided to name the yacht Diana in memory of his late wife, who was a doctor of Polish descent and passed away in 2006. With the ambition to build a safe and seaworthy home away from home for his family to pursue adventures around the world, he embarked on a unique catamaran build project.

F

rom the very beginning, the project had specific build requirements and a complex specification list. The extensive use of carbon fiber allowed not only to compensate for the weight of the yacht’s long list of equipment (including two tenders and a Jacuzzi) but also increased Diana’s performance. The yacht was given a carbon deck, flybridge, bulkheads and superstructure. As explains Piotr Czyż, Sunreef Yachts in-house Project Manager: “The use of carbon fiber was our way to adapt the Sunreef 74 to the Owner’s navigation plans. The shipyard has significant experience in working with carbon – for instance, we produce our own carbon masts and have launched an 80ft carbon sailing catamaran – the Sunreef 80 Carbon Line Levante.”

BORNBORN TO SAIL TO SAIL

T

he Artemis symbol on the yacht’s sail represents Diana, the goddess of the hunt. This tells a lot about the boat’s character. Equipped with state-of-the-art sailing gear, she is clearly the ambitious and adventurous type. Diana has everything she needs to conquer the world’s oceans. Her rigging includes a carbon mast and an in-boom furling system. The main navigation station is equipped with touchscreens enabling automatic sail adjustments coupled with load sensors to prevent winch, hardware and rig overload. These solutions provide a redundant, easy and safe control of the sails and rig. The boat also features a large overlapping genoa for upwind optimized performance, a code 0 for reaching and a furling spinnaker for downwind performance. All sails can be easily controlled from the superior helm station, making the boat suited for single-handed operation. Adrien Jousset, the shipyard’s Naval Architect, sheds some light on the first sea trials in the Baltic Sea: “We had the chance to test the boat in a wide range of wind and sea conditions. We had up to a couple of meters of waves coming from North East and up to 25 knots true wind in the first days. During all sea trials, the boat sailed an average speed of 9.5 knots half loaded. The large overlapping genoa is great giving nice power upwind. We reached 42° apparent at 11 knots under genoa with 15 knots true wind. With the code 0, we came up as close as 50° and reached 13 knots wih 16-17 knots true wind. Diana is a fantastic worldwide cruiser and can withstand any kind of weather and sea state.”

soothing atmosphere reigns in the boat’s interiors. Together with Sunreef Yachts Interior Design Office, Keriann McIntosh and Lisa Henry conceived relaxing lounging spaces, perfect for family cruising. Diana’s vast saloon combining shades of oak, beige and white, offers plenty of space to enjoy life onboard. The bow part of the room features a bar with a panoramic view of the sea and the interior navigation station. Two generous lounging and dining areas with big sofas are placed by the yacht’s large sliding door opening wide onto the generous cockpit for a superyacht feel of spaciousness.

The fully equipped galley with abundant storage and a small crew mess was placed down in the aft part of the port hull. The same volume on starboard side is occupied by the yacht’s comfortable crew quarters. Both the galley and crew cabin give easy access to the boat’s large engine rooms through fireproof doors. Diana’s layout comprises two identical mid-ship guest cabins, both featuring double beds, ample storage and spacious private bathrooms with a contemporary mosaic tile finishing. Two more equally-sized guest cabins are placed symmetrically in the bow part of each hull. They both feature large double beds and clever storage but also open onto the forepeaks fitted with single beds – a flexible and charterfriendly layout solution. Diana’s flybridge not only houses the yacht’s helm but is also a prime lounging spot featuring a dining table adjustable in height, a rowing machine and a spectacular Jacuzzi. A wink from Artemis: a custom-built spear gun locker is also at hand as the Owner is a world recordholding Blue Water Hunter.

DOUBLE DECK THE AVANT-GARDE SAILING SUPERYACHT SUNREEF YACHTS IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON ONE OF ITS MOST AMBITIOUS CRAFTS. A DOUBLE DECK CUSTOM-BUILT SAILING SUPERYACHT – THE SUNREEF 88 DOUBLE DECK.

The innovative Double Deck series was introduced in 2010 with the launch of the imposing 102ft Ipharra – the world’s very first double deck sailing catamaran and at the same time one of the biggest sailing luxury multihulls ever built. All yachts in the Double Deck range feature a mezzanine level inside the saloon and a spacious master stateroom with a panoramic view in the bow part of the main deck.

The Sunreef 88 Double Deck is a display of the shipyard’s non-conformist attitude and a genuine example of an avantgarde sailing catamaran concept. She puts the emphasis on luxury, performance and privacy while offering over 300m² of living space. Her layout, interior design and technical features are entirely customized and adapted to her Owner’s exact expectations. This unique catamaran is Sunreef Yachts’ sixth superyacht construction.

CHASING A BIG DREAM REQUIRES A BIG BOAT Having previously owned a 28m motor monohull, the Owner commissioned this sailing superyacht with Sunreef Yachts to be able to enjoy cruises around the whole world with friends and family. Putting safety and seaworthiness at the forefront, he started to look for the right boat concept – one that would ensure a stable navigation experience and let him extend the sailing season to a full year. This is how the idea of building the Sunreef 88 Double Deck emerged. A vision of a safe and fast boat with massive living spaces and a huge flybridge began to take shape.

A FAMILY-FRIENDLY MONSTER Everything about the Sunreef 88 Double Deck is big. The boat has an imposing presence. Her exterior design is dynamic and somewhat aggressive, yet she remains the most family-friendly yacht offering the best of comfort and safety. Her advanced composite structure conceals a smart and functional layout with luxurious accommodations for 8 guests and up to 5 crew. The yacht’s saloon is a vast relaxing area with floors entirely clad in Chambord Oak and a soothing light grey finish. The main lounging area with a generous sofa has a lofty feel thanks to the boat’s raised superstructure. The customtailored mirrors placed on the back wall enhance the already voluminous aura of the yacht. With clever storage all around, a drop-down ceiling TV and a wine cooler placed at hand, the room offers all the comfort needed for lengthy family cruises. Placed amidships is the dining table for 8, neighboring the enclosed navigation station and skipper’s office.

Further to the bow is the entrance to the master suite using the yacht’s full beam. The Owner’s realm offers a spectacular panoramic sea view, features a king-size bed with a leather-finished headboard, a wardrobe, desk and an elevated reading spot. The wooden floors lend the interior a warm aspect and the overall décor with various shades of grey keeps the atmosphere discretely chic. The stairs to portside lead to the spacious bathroom with an immense walk-in shower. The space combines iron grey and beige quartz panels for a contemporary look. The Sunreef 88 Double Deck’s layout comprises three spacious VIP cabins with en suite bathrooms, all placed within the hulls. Each of these spacious retreats features a king-size bed, a large TV with a gaming console and a wardrobe. Every cabin and bathroom was given a distinct design and color theme chosen by the Owner in collaboration with the Sunreef Yachts Interior Design Office.

The Sunreef 88 Double Deck is our sixth superyacht build. Upon the Owner’s request we put much emphasis on both the performance and safety. Therefore, the boat’s sailplan is devoted to fast cruising, whereas the layout is perfectly adapted to family use. The fact that the boat is big does not necessarily mean that she will be hard to handle and monitor – a custom domotic system is installed to control lights, stores, alarms, tank and temperature levels, batteries and electricity consumption. Situated slightly down to starboard off the main deck is the yacht’s galley. With ample storage and large countertops, the space is outfitted with a restaurant quality oven, freezers and fridges. A custom-made wine rack holding up to 100 bottles is placed below decks along with extra freezers. The bright and airy workspace was designed to be efficient and ensure the right conditions for impeccable service onboard. The boat’s laundry and utility room is found to portside in the rear part of the hull.

SUNNING, DIVING, WINING AND DINING Transition from the yacht’s saloon to the cockpit is smooth. The exterior lounging space is vast, fitted with another big dining table, sunbeds, a fridge, an ice maker and an easily accessed day head to starboard. The cockpit is also an excellent spot for diving and all sorts of watersports. The yacht’s 4.9m tender rests on the aft platform while two jet skis are stored in the passageways. One of the characteristic features of the fully inhouse built and designed Sunreef 88 Double Deck is her immense flybridge with a large table, a bar with a freezer, ice maker and barbeque. 

SPECIAL FEATURE

Businessman Francis Lapp started Sunreef Yachts in 2002 with a very clear idea in mind. He engaged in shipbuilding to change the philosophy of multihull design. Having owned several leisure catamarans at the time he noticed a growing demand for spacious, family-friendly twin-hulled crafts with a superior level of production quality and a custom finish. His observations of the industry brought him to the conclusion that there were no yachts of this type on the market. He set up his business in Poland to soon launch the world’s first 74ft luxury oceangoing sailing catamaran with a flybridge. Today, Sunreef Yachts is the global leading manufacturer and designer of individually tailored multihulls.

Whenever a layout is conceived, various factors are taken into consideration. The Interior Design Team always takes the time to get to know the Owner and his/her navigation plans. The Owner’s family plays a most significant role as the presence of children or elderly guests often requires special layout modifications. One of the recent examples is the Sunreef Supreme 68 Eagle Wings featuring a custom-made stairlift to facilitate cabin access to one of the Owners’ family elders or the Sunreef 60 Loft Happy’s gangway specifically adapted to electric tricycle use. When the layout of the 70 Sunreef Power Violetta was designed, priority was given to children. The yacht’s master cabin connects directly with the children’s realm – a space with ample storage for toys, opening onto the nanny’s cabin and featuring twin beds convertible to a double when needed. The Owners’ hobbies and leisure activities are an important source of ideas for Sunreef Yachts designers. This is how an upright piano found its way onboard the Sunreef 74 Lucy Z or the Sunreef Supreme 68 Eagle Wings, also featuring a state-of-the-art karaoke system. Being a passionate blue water hunter, the Owner of the Sunreef 74 Diana requested that a custom-built spear gun locker is installed on his yacht's flybridge right next to a rowing machine and a spectacular Jacuzzi. As the Owner of the 70 Sunreef Power Moondance likes to take the helm during lengthy Pacific cruises, his yacht’s flybridge has been partly enclosed with a composite superstructure and fitted with an additional navigation station. The Owner of the Sunreef 74 Obsession puts much emphasis on fine cuisine, therefore his private chef was deeply involved in the yacht’s galley design process.

On September 8th, the Sunreef Yachts Marketing and PR Team hosted press representatives and journalists from the most renowned nautical magazines onboard the Sunreef Supreme 68 Midori to discuss the innovative concept of the Sunreef Supreme range with the shipyard’s Founder and President – Francis Lapp, Sunreef Yachts Head of Interior Design Department – Joanna Szulc and collaborating interior designer and decorator – Bram Van Scharen. The shipyard also seized the opportunity of the press conference to announce the construction start of a fully personalized double deck sailing superyachtcatamaran – the Sunreef 88 Double Deck. With the contract concluded in July 2016, this all new model is currently being built at the company’s production site in Gdansk, Poland.

The following day brought even more success and satisfaction to the shipyard, as the company’s latest project – the Sunreef Supreme 68 was awarded at the prestigious World Yachts Trophies gala. The end of the show was also an opportunity to arrange photo sessions of the yachts exhibited in the picturesque surroundings of the Mediterranean. Staniel Cay and Thunderball Grotto Choose your adventure: Staniel Cay is a perfect place to kayak, snorkel, or visit the wild iguanas, sharks and pigs! Or you can, you know, relax at the beach. A number of celebrities, including Johnny Depp, Oprah Winfrey and Faith Hill have homes nearby, so it has got to be nothing less than amazing!

Fun things to do and see: Visit the world-famous swimming pigs: Swim with these adorable porkers and give them a treat! They love watermelon rinds! Thunderball Grotto: A light-filled cavern where the James Bond Thunderball film was made. Snorkel among schools of fish and through underwater tunnels.

Hawksbill Cay Hawksbill is an uninhabited cay known for numerous soft sand beaches. It is a perfect place to enjoy the remarkable views and water sports.

The food philosophy of Lucy Z is based on the belief that fresh regional products are the best for creating a perfect meal. For this reason, every morning starts with the yacht’s chef visiting nearby farmers’ markets and shops in search of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables. The fish menu is completed by oyster farms and local fishermen, whereas best regional farms supply Lucy Z with all items needed in the department of fresh meat, be it prime beef or a steady supply of lamb. To enrich the menu offered on Lucy Z, the crew are always in search of excellent cheesemakers who supply the yacht with high quality dairy products, including goat cheese, young or cured cheeses with tastes ranging from traditional and classic to fresh and original. Dinner is served! DINNERS ON LUCY Z ARE SERVED IN THE FOLLOWING STEPS: Guests are first served with an appetizer and a glass of one of Lucy Z’s liqueurs. Upon request, they are served with a bottle of Champagne. The guests are seated at a spacious dining table, a wine is selected and the crew ensures that from that moment on, no wine glass is left empty. The hors d’oeuvres are served – two or three small portions designed to placate hunger, and allow the guests to enjoy the meal at a relaxed pace. Following the hors d’oeuvres comes the first course, acting as an introduction to the second (main) course, and allowing the guests to experience a wider range of culinary experiences. The main course normally consists of two kinds of meat or fish, accompanied by various vegetable side dishes. The dessert is typically a small, delicate, yet distinctive tasting summation to the entire meal, enjoyed with the last sip of wine and followed by fragrant herb teas or strong and refreshing coffee.
