Foster Parents Needed!! For short and long term placement, for medical/special needs, and sibling groups. Iosco, Ogemaw, and Roscommon County Departments of Health and Human Service are looking for adults, married or single, to provide foster care services to local children removed from their homes due to family crisis. • These foster families provide temporary homes, safety and nurturing to foster children. By providing a local placement, foster families give children, along with their birth parents, the opportunity to access services in the local area, thus assisting in the reunification process. Local foster homes allow children to remain in a familiar environment and within the same school system, thus reducing the trauma of removal from their family home.

• Foster parents work together as part of the team to insure children’s needs are met and that family connection is maintained with their birth families. In those instances where reunification is NOT possible, foster families are often in a position to provide a permanent family to children who have lived in their homes through adoption. • Foster parents are given training to assist them in understanding the special needs of foster children. Other supports and services are available to make foster parenting possible for working parents or single foster parents. Geraldine Benjamin-Steward Geraldine Magdeline Benjamin-Steward, affectionately known as Gerrie Mae, or simply Gerrie, passed away at her West Branch home on December 17, 2016. Gerrie was born September 04, 1925 at her parents (Fredrick Godfrey and Mary Ann (Hogan) Brindley) home in Selkirk, MI, the last of 14 children. Gerrie’s birth was not recorded until the 11th of September 1925, giving her a full week of celebrating. Gerrie attended O’Neil School and graduated from West Branch High School in 1943, staying in contact with her classmates. At 14 years old Gerrie began her working career at the West Branch Country Club. During WWII Gerrie became a “Rosie the Riveter” for Hewlett-Packard in Detroit and later worked for AC Delco in Flint. After an eight year courtship Gerrie finally said “I do”on May 03, 1947, to Wilson Benjamin, son of Wm and Clara Benjamin. They constructed a home on the Benjamin family farm and began their family. After Wilson’s death, Gerrie worked for her sister, Lucy Schlichter at Ivan’s Place, junction of M33 and M55, West Branch. During the 1961 hunting season Gerrie danced into the arms of Murton Steward and they married August 29, 1962. Gerrie and Murt made their home in Waterford, MI for 41 years. Gerrie worked for Montgomery Wards for three years making lifelong friends, then employed by GM Truck and Coach in Pontiac, MI for 37 years before retiring, again making lifelong friends. After retirement Gerrie and Murt moved back to her home in West Branch and spent time traveling and wintering in their Florida home. Gerrie was fun loving, laughed often, enjoyed being a fashionista, was a voracious reader, decorated and hosted events. Gerrie collected dolls, carousel horses and beautiful cut crystal. She enjoyed visiting and being visited. Gerrie loved to dance, favoring a lively swing and jitterbugging to the big bands of Tommy Dorsey and Guy Lombardo at famous Michigan dance halls such as the Crystal Palace and Graceland. Gerrie and Murt enjoyed square dancing, competing in competitions. Gerrie was well traveled and attended live theater productions, often meeting the entertainers. A proficient figure skater, Gerrie would pirouette across the ice with Dr. George Schiaberger (deceased) or brother-in-law Edward Schlichter (deceased) as a skating partners. Although not formally affiliated with any church, Gerrie recognized God as her heavenly father and Jesus as her savior. Gerrie’s three children, Terry Benjamin, Larry Benjamin and LuAnn (David) Zettle, her four grandchildren; Justin (Aarika) Benjamin, Robert Redlawsk, Geran (Theresa) Zettle and Ganae’ Zettle and three greatgrandchildren; Zander Benjamin, Mackenzie Benjamin and Dallas Zettle, would like to Thank the wonderful care given by the West Branch Regional Hospital, Intelicare In-home Health Services, the Commission on Aging, Shared Care, Dr Ted Bash, the Cremation Society of Mid-Michigan and a heartfelt Thank You for the many condolences from friends and family. Gerrie Mae’s Irish Wake; A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 28th, 2017 at her childhood home, 2166 Brindley Lane, near Selkirk MI, presently owned by her nephew, James Brindley.
