It was the September of 2009. I remember getting a call from my wife. She had just opened the mail and found an advertisement for a cruise for four nights for $299.00 each. Wow! The ship was to depart from and return to Seattle. It was such a good deal and the port was merely a five hour drive from our house, so we invited several other couples to join us on this little cruise. As it turned out, we were three couples heading north in one car to save on gas and parking. We stayed a couple nights at a friend's house so we could visit with them while we were there and left for the ship on Monday. I wasn't real keen on a short cruise like this and we weren't going very far. So, I was wary that it wouldn't be as nice as the others we have been on. But, besides cruises, I also enjoy spending time with our friends and especially spending time with my wife. Getting away from the worries of home and work for this short respice along with the friendships to be experienced and strengthened were enough to get me going with a smile. I didn't worry about it not being long enough or that it didn't travel far enough. Boy was I mistaken. This was just as enjoyable as any cruise I had been on. It was a "closed loop voyage", so the price was lower. The entertainment was grand and the shore excursions were relaxing and beautiful as only Victoria Island can present to the traveler. While I originally thought I would feel rushed, I found I was relaxed. The crew did a marvelous job making us all feel right at ease as soon as we boarded. Their energy and friendliness weren't lost on us. We were able to enjoy this trip just as much as we had been able to enjoy cruises in the past. I think that this trip was the first hint I have had of days being lengthened. It happened a couple of times towards the end of 2009. This may have been the catalyst that got me moving in such a way that the days didn't just pass by in a blur as they had for other vacations and times away from the responsibilities that hold us down to the earth.
