Going on a cruise does not mean you need to overspend. It can still be a memorable, pleasurable travel if you know how to use your money while cruising. Even if this is your first time, you can still save money more so, if this is your second or nth time. If you went over your budget on the first cruise, you must have learned your lesson and picked up some tips on how to spend wisely on a cruise holiday. Here are some money-saving tips while cruising.

Take advantage of cheap cruise deals. This happens when the travel date is near. You can get as much as 50% discount. Choose off-peak seasons. This is where cruise lines sell their empty cabins, as it is better to sell it at a cheaper price than leaving it empty. Choosing your cabin. Suites are the most luxurious; hence, they are pricier. Here is you guide though. Balcony cabins cost more than ocean view cabins. On the other hand, ocean view cabins are pricier than inside cabins. If you opt to get the decks, book yourself on the lower level, as they are cheaper than the upper level decks. I would suggest that you get an ocean view cabin situated on the lowest area instead of an inside cabin on the highest area. Bring your camera. Pictures are your proofs of being there. Therefore, a camera is a must-have equipment when going on a cruise. So do not forget to bring your camera, extra memory cards, batteries and charger. You will save more if you have your own unit. You can have your photo taken by the cruise line's resident photographer if you want. However, since this is quite costly, join a group and divide the cost among yourselves. It is cheaper than having individual pictures. If your family is traveling with you, then have a family picture and do it only once. Eat at the main dining room where good food is served free. Do not go to other specialty restaurants that the cruise line offers - they have add-on costs. The drinks are offered free in the buffet. Other drinks that are offered in the buffet are milk, coffee and tea and may I repeat - they are free. Water, too, is free. Some cruise lines allow you to bring a few cans of sodas. Do not buy it from the cruise ship - they cost a lot! Bring enough clothes so you will not have problems to worry of having them washed. Cruise lines offer laundry service but are expensive. Some offer a flat rate but you do not have to spend for this if you pack appropriately.

If there is no need for you to use the internet then do not. This will be another expense. If you really have to, then do it while at port - this is cheaper. Stay away from the spa, salon and gym. Do your shopping on the last day of your holiday. Discounts are offered on this day so control yourself. Avoid being an impulsive buyer, too and choose only small items. Do not bring your credit card. Although it will be better to have your credit card with you, it is still best that you do not bring it. Without your credit card, you are limited to your cash on hand. Credit cards normally induce one to spend more.

It is always nice to have a wonderful holiday cruising and to go home without an empty pocket. A fun cruise is possible even without overspending.
