For sure it is going to be difficult to get used to the new baby sleeping patterns your child is going to have. It will take a lot of getting used to, but as she grows her sleeping patterns will become more regular. This makes your life as a parent much easier. Many babies do have a similar sleeping pattern though of course this can vary with each infant. As a general rule most newborns sleep around 14 hours each day until they reach about twelve weeks of age. This is broken up throughout the day. As a mom you can expect to get sleep in periods of 2 to 3 hours at a time. This will be difficult for you to be accustomed to but by around six weeks of age your baby will start to sleep for more hours at one time. This provides you with more quality sleep time. By the time your baby is 4 months old they will start to develop more of a routine. They will sleep more throughout the night with several small naps during the day. This allows you more time for sleep and to catch up on those overlooked chores. At around 18 months of age your baby will only be taking one afternoon nap and sleeping for 12 hours during the night. These irregular hours can play havoc on a new parent. Having help from your spouse or another family member can help you keep your own sleep patterns in check. It is very important for both mother and child to have enough sleep, now is not the time for you to get sick. Babies require constant care and attention at all times of the day. Being aware of your baby's sleep patterns in advance will help prepare you for the coming year. You will be so happy to have a healthy child that you won't mind losing a little sleep over them.
