Sarasota spots that locals love

By Sean Davies

As a tourist, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of trying to fit as much in as possible in a short trip, and in the rush from destination to destination, it’s all too common to miss out on some of the best deals at the hippest places in town. Thankfully, Sarasota’s Fun in the 941 campaign has compiled a litany of restaurants and attractions that are offering special discounts and deals to advantageous adventurers looking to make the most of a vacation without breaking the bank.

Sampling local cuisine is always a travel to-do, especially in Florida, where Gulf waters give unrivaled access to a host of fresh seafood. At Libby’s Neighborhood Brasserie, fresh, line-caught hauls are cooked to perfection, along with a menu of delicious smoked meats and fresh veggies. While the food is a big draw, locals flock to Libby’s on Monday for its allday happy hour with $4 spirits, $5 wines and $6 bites in the bar area. libbysneighborhoodbrasserie.com

99 Bottles Taproom & Bottle Shop also features a happy hour that is too good to miss, from opening to 7 p.m., but its Stein Night on Thursday that really draws a crowd. From 3 p.m. until closing time, giant 1 liter steins of select draft beers are just $10 each. And on the weekend from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., 99 Bottles brings in real NY bagels, trucked in from the Bronx for their special Bagel Brunch. Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Bellinis are available, along with their list of draft beer and wine. 99bottles.net
