THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM (ECS)
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenou neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, that are expressed throughout the central nervous syste (including the brain). The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes.
CB1 CB1 receptors target:
CB2
CB2 receptors are much broader than CB1 and influence most of the body
- Motor activity - Thinking - Motor co-ordination - Appetite - Short Term Memory - Pain Perception - Immune Cells - Gut - Kidneys - Pancreas - Adipose tissue - Skeletal Muscle - Bones - Eyes - Tumours - Reproductive System - Immune System - Respiratory Tract - Skin - CNS - Cardiovascular System - Liver
ENDOCANNABINOID RECEPTORS CB1 receptors are found predominantly in the brain and nervous system CB2 in the immune system and in the brain.
