ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT
Our Mission To enrich our community through transformative arts and educational experiences. svmoa.org
Looking Back, Moving Forward WITH GRATITUDE
Pat Boas, Sentinels (detail)
Dear Friends, It has been nothing short of an astonishing year:
>> Perseverance became a byword as COVID-19 required a new kind of focus. We
reduced our budget by $2 million and had to say goodbye to colleagues who we sorely miss. But that tenacity resulted in SVMoA’s finishing the fiscal year in strong financial health. Several highly competitive grants helped underwrite programs and the community’s support remained steadfast.
>> Finding hope in the midst of a pandemic, we reimagined how to deliver stimulating programs for students and families. We provided a creative boost for teachers and intellectual fodder for the community’s adults as we discovered new paths to meet our mission of providing transformational arts and educational experiences.
>> Taking time during a period of profound societal change to build relationships
and work in partnership with the valley’s Latino community has been enormously rewarding as we create new Spanish-language and bilingual programs to serve and celebrate the whole community.
>> Honoring 50 years of SVMoA and reflecting on the hundreds of outstanding
artists, musicians and thought leaders who have shared their talents with this small mountain community has been inspiring. We look to our future energized by this formidable foundation.
For five decades, the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, now Sun Valley Museum of Art, has morphed and changed in response to the growth and needs of the people who call the Wood River Valley home. The through line has been education and the belief that the arts are an essential part of our human experience. Some things have stuck—concerts under the summer sun and classes that allow us to exercise our creative muscles. Other programs develop in response to need—enrichment opportunities for teachers; lectures and performing arts events that elucidate BIG IDEAS; exhibitions that celebrate and nurture the traditions of Mexican, Peruvian and Shoshone-Bannock peoples. None of us know exactly what the next 50 years will hold—or what SVMoA will offer in response—but we know we will be here working for you. As we look to our future, we will work to provoke and deliver ways for all of us to better see and understand ourselves and our world. As we fulfill the promise of our past, we hope you are inspired to join us. We are ever so grateful for your participation, your support and your commitment to this place we share. With gratitude,
Kristin Poole Artistic Director

In May 2021, Sun Valley Museum of Art and Company of Fools theatre group formally agreed to become two independent arts organizations. After 7 years of joint programming following a merger in 2013, the theatre company and museum have once again become separate 501c3 organizations, with The Liberty Theatre Company (TLTC) carrying on the legacy of Company of Fools, with new leadership and a new mission.
All members, donors and our annual Wine Auction participants help provide support for SVMoA’s K–12 art education programs, all of which are offered free to students. SVMoA’s programs are supported by individuals and foundations as well as public funding for the arts through the Idaho Commission on the Arts, the Idaho Legislature, Western States Arts Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

CONTRIBUTIONS CHART SVMoA saw an increase in foundation support and non-governmental grants. Some were targeted support in response to the COVID-19 crisis. EXPENSE CHART SVMoA was not able to produce a number of programs due to the pandemic. While large, in-person events were canceled, we focused on small or virtual events, experiencing a decrease in program expenses. PROGRAMMING CHART SVMoA was not able to produce a number of programs due to the pandemic. While large events such as our summer concert were canceled, we focused on small or virtual events, experiencing a shift in program expenses. Volunteers Volunteers are the heart of our organization, enabling us to present arts programs of impressive quality and quantity throughout the year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were unable to present the typical array of in-person programs, therefore there weren’t as many opportunities for volunteer help. As things continue to open up we look forward to 2021–2022 and again actively working with our volunteers to support our events and programs. As always, THANK YOU! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or want to learn more, please contact SVMoA at 208.726.9491. Madison Brito Chris Carwithen Kathryn Graves
