Arts education is essential to building engaged, curious, inspired and contributing citizens and communities. The Center’s programming delivers transformative and engaging arts education. The Center needs your support to make an impact in the lives of individuals, our community and society at large.

HOW DO YOU WANT TO MAKE AN IMPACT?

Wine Auction Chairs Katherine and Buffalo Rixon

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US AT THE SUN VALLEY WINE AUCTION THIS SUMMER. We are thrilled and honored to be your 2016 Chairs. Buffalo and I chose to live and raise our family in the mountains of the Wood River Valley, not only because of the extraordinary natural beauty of this area, but also because of the unique and special culture of the community here. The people of our valley place great value on educational, environmental and intellectual stimulation. Sun Valley is a small town full of big thinkers, big athletes, big environmentalists, big dreamers and big givers. The Sun Valley Center for the Arts is THE epicenter of arts education in the valley. Through theatre, music, the visual arts and humanities, The Center offers high-quality arts programming -- exploring ideas and themes that are relevant to our time. And 68% of the programming they offer is free of charge and accessible to all. It is Buffalo’s and my personal goal to raise our children to be thoughtful about the world around them, bold and innovative in their thinking and tolerant and accepting of others. And, we believe that arts education is a key piece of this equation. Arts education develops improvisational skills and self-expression, enhancing confidence, teaching empathy, and strengthening the ability to problem solve. Plus, creativity is at the core of problem solving, which is a fundamental trait of great business people and great leaders. Money raised at the Wine Auction is critical to supporting free arts and educational programming in our valley. We hope you will join us in supporting The Center and the work they do that helps make our community great. Together we can make a profound and lasting difference in the Wood River Valley and the lives of the children that are raised here. Let’s build big brains together, shall we? Welcome

Sun Valley Center for the Arts Wine Auction

DEAR WINE AUCTION FRIENDS, When it comes to the Sun Valley Center Wine Auction, there are so many people to whom we are grateful. The planning and execution of an event of this caliber is inspiring. From the dedication of the Board of Directors and the Wine Auction Committee to the Wine Auction Chairs, Buffalo and Katherine Rixon, the level of commitment has been incredible. As I reflect on the history of this event and all of the people devoted to its success over the many years, I am humbled. I think of friends we have lost and the pride they would take in knowing how their contributions have made a difference. They would be proud that after 35 years, The Center continues to provide transformational arts experiences for our community. They would be proud of The Center’s commitment to arts education, BIG IDEA projects and Company of Fools. I am thankful to them for making an impact in a remote community and in the lives of the children who grow up and move on from here. I honor and admire the foresight of our auction founder, Glenn Janss, in her efforts to emphasize and protect the importance of the arts in our valley. Thank you for participating in the 2016 Sun Valley Wine Auction in support of The Center. We are grateful for 35 years of support from all of you—our loyal and enthusiastic attendees, donors, volunteers and sponsors. It is an incredibly rewarding to think about the impact you have had in this community in support of the arts since 1981. In the last 18 years alone, you provided 583 scholarship awards to students and educators who wish to further their education in the arts and humanities. The Center is wholly committed to arts education and the proceeds from this evening are dedicated entirely to our arts education programs and initiatives. Our nationally recognized Wine Auction has been working with countless vintners and wineries around the country for 35 years to build and support the community and we take great pride in this tradition and heritage. Our hope is that you leave Sun Valley after this weekend having made new friends, discovered new wines and enjoyed yourself to the fullest. Most importantly, we hope you depart with the knowledge that you are providing resources to our entire community for learning important life skills, like problem solving, leadership and decision making. These tools will help countless children and individuals thrive as they move through life, exploring all that the arts community has to offer. With gratitude,

Christine Davis-Jeffers Executive Director

We are proud to support the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.

The Tradition of the Sun Valley Wine Auction Thirty-five years ago, the Wine Auction was conceived by Glenn Janss and a few close friends to help support a young arts organization that Glenn had helped found, the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. Few would have envisioned that the idea of a wine auction in Idaho (!) would become as significant as it is today. Now, three decades later, the Wine Auction is vital to supporting what is now the biggest arts organization in the state. The Sun Valley Wine Auction defines quality, fun and friendship through spirited philanthropy. As the founding story of our wine auction goes, in 1981 Glenn Janss visited Auction Napa Valley and thought, “we could do that here” to financially support The Center. She invited vintner friends and guests and they auctioned off some bottles and had a great time trading wine in support of the arts. Thousands of vintners have since joined the Sun Valley Center for the Arts on this journey. Much has changed over time but the exceptional and generous participation of wineries has not. We are thrilled and honored to have such an outstanding line-up of participating vintners joining us in our efforts. Some vintners have been part of the Wine Auction since its inception, such as Schramsberg, Trefethen and Far Niente. Others represent a new generation of winemaking

families. The Wine Auction Committee selects a diverse group of vintners for participation each year. There are always new people to meet and tastes to discover. You can expect to be inspired and entertained in new ways every year. The locals know that Sun Valley, Idaho, is a community built on camaraderie and meaningful friendships. The Sun Valley Wine Auction shares those same qualities. Lasting relationships are formed here between patrons and vintners. We take pride in being a world-class event with an intimate feel. And we welcome all of our guests with open arms. The Center has grown and flourished over the years but its mission has stayed true—to enrich our community though transformative arts and educational experiences. And the tradition of the Sun Valley Center Wine Auction also remains the same—to raise vital funds to support arts education in our small community. The Sun Valley Wine Auction is as relevant as ever, bringing vintners and wine lovers together in a beautiful location for three glorious days of incredible wine, food and friendship. Thank you for being a part of the tradition.

THANK YOU TO THE VINTNERS The Sun Valley Center for the Arts is appreciative of the continued generosity of the participating vintners who make this event possible.

CONTAINER DESIGNATIONS 1) 375ML

This designation refers to a small bottle that holds 375ml of wine, half as much as a standard wine container.

2) 750ML

This designation refers to the standard-sized bottle that holds 750ml of wine, or 4/5-quarts. This size bottle, regardless of whether it has a straight or sloping neck, is used for red, white, rosé and sparkling wines. Sparkling wine bottles appear to be larger than standard because they are made of thicker glass to withstand the pressures of carbonation, but they contain 750ml of wine.

3) MAGNUM

This designation refers to a bottle that holds 1.5 liters of wine, the equivalent of two 750ml bottles. Sparkling wines are sometimes fermented in magnums because this method is believed to lengthen the wine’s life.

4) DOUBLE MAGNUM

This designation refers to a bottle that holds three liters of wine, the equivalent of four 750ml bottles.

5) JEROBOAM

A jeroboam of sparkling wine holds three liters, the equivalent of a double magnum or four 750ml bottles. A Jeroboam of still wine is the equivalent of six 750ml bottles or 4.5 liters. Because of recent U.S. regulations limiting larger bottles to even liter sizes, some modern red wine "Jeroboams" are now 5 liters rather than the traditional 4.5 liters.

6) REHOBOAM

This designation refers to an oversized bottle that holds approximately 4.5 liters of wine, the equivalent of six 750ml bottles.

7) IMPERIAL

This designation refers to an oversized bottle that holds approximately six liters of wine, the equivalent of eight 750ml bottles.

8) METHUSELAH

This designation also refers to an oversized bottle that holds approximately six liters of wine, the equivalent of eight 750ml bottles but a different shape than the Imperial.

9) SALMANAZAR

This designation refers to an oversized bottle that holds approximately nine liters of wine, the equivalent of twelve 750ml bottles.

10) BALTHAZAR

This term refers to a bottle that holds approximately twelve liters of wine, the equivalent of sixteen 750ml bottles.

11) NEBUCHADNEZZAR

This designation refers to an oversized bottle that holds approximately thirteen to fifteen liters of wine, depending on the manufacturer, date, country and region of manufacture— the equivalent of approximately seventeen to twenty 750ml bottles.

The Pickups have shared the stage with Lucinda Williams, Chuck Leavell of The Rolling Stones, David Pack and Billy Dean, and they’ve opened for legends such as Leon Russell and Tim McGraw. Of the comparison between making good music and great wine, Silver Oak’s Duncan says, "When you get the wine just right, it's like hitting a chord on the guitar. Coveted Cabernet The Crane Assembly The Crane Assembly operates the oldest vineyard in Napa, located on a property that has only had three owners since 1886, when the vines were planted by the legendary Napa Valley pioneer George Belden Crane. These deeply-rooted historic vines are embedded in ground that was formed over millennia as soil and gravel washed down from the Mayacamas Mountains via Sulphur Creek to the western flank of St. Helena. A group of friends and colleagues, winemakers Dave Phinney and Kevin Fox; Bryan Sandoli, G.M. of Orin Swift; and Darryl Browman—owner of Cavus, made by Phinney, teamed up with a common goal to preserve this piece of viticultural history and produce a wine that both represented and respected that history. This lot includes three bottles of their signature 2012 G.B. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon, signed by the winemaker and presented tonight in a beautiful wooden box. The balanced, toasty oak of this wine frames an almost endless finish replete with a full complement of rich flavors and ripe, silky tannins. The immense mid-palate explodes with a cacophony of dense dark chocolate and ripe Bing cherries. Additionally, six people will experience a special vineyard to bottle tasting held in the vineyard surrounded by the Mayacamas mountains and 130-year-old vines.

Passion for the Land Balletto Vineyards The Balletto Vineyards are located in the coolest, southern-most tip of the Russian River Valley where a ceaseless ebb and flow of Pacific Ocean fog makes for a dynamic and incredible location to grow wine. The winemakers at Balletto focus on producing estate-grown and estate-bottled wines with varied and subtle flavors and an emphasis on balance and elegance. As the winning bidder on this lot, you will enjoy a complimentary tasting for four people at the winery in Santa Rosa and you will take home a 1.5-litre bottle of Balletto’s lauded 2012 Zinfandel, a beautiful expression of the varietal that is fresh, bright and lovely.

Family Style Canihan Family Winery Canihan Family Winery produces estate-grown, award-winning wines from their dry-farmed and certified organic vineyards. The winery’s old-world philosophy yields deeply expressive, flavorful wines that reflect their terroir. Wines the family believes represent the best of the best are sold under the Exuberance label. The lucky winner of this lot will enjoy a private vineyard tour, lunch and vertical tasting for six guests in the heart of the Sonoma Valley with Bill Canihan at the family vineyards. If desired, you can schedule your visit during harvest so that you can experience the thrill of harvesting, sorting grapes, de-stemming and crush. Each guest will also receive a complimentary gift box containing their three favorite wines of the visit. We don’t blame you for getting excited!

Red Mountain's Finest Col Solare Winery Col Solare, Italian for “shining hill,” is the internationally-styled red wine born of a unique partnership between Washington’s Chateau Ste. Michelle and Tuscany’s Antinori. Together, their winemakers have created a wine of great structure and character, styled for aging elegantly over time, from the Red Mountain AVA. Rich and full of flavor, this 2011 vintage of Col Solare, rated 92 points by The Wine Advocate, is described as “beautifully balanced and seamless,” offering aromas of black cherry, currants, and blackberry and subtle notes of vanilla and milk chocolate, along with a silky palate and a lingering finish, characteristic of Red Mountain fruit. Tonight’s lucky winning bidder will take home this signature red blend, presented in a gorgeous limited edition silk-screened double-magnum bottle.

And they are prized for making wines with intensity, depth of flavor and rich, lush body. The Nth Degree is a line of handcrafted, limited production wines. The focus of this small-lot program is to create wines that reflect the distinctive terroir of the Wente family’s estate vineyards, as well as to highlight the craftsmanship involved in hands-on winemaking. This outstanding lot is a chance to acquire a collection of some of Wente’s finest wines. You will take home three bottles each of the 2012 Nth Degree Cabernet, with mouthfilling flavors and bold tannins along with a rich, well-balanced finish, the 2013 Nth Degree Chardonnay, a beautifully balanced, full-bodied wine with crisp acidity and a smooth finish, and the 2012 Brut Sparkling Wine, a classic Brut, with a nice complexity and a refreshing crispness. To complete the collection, the winning bidder will also receive three bottles of the 2014 Wente Petite Sirah Port to add to their collection.

More than twenty years later, Northstar is widely recognized among the leading Merlot producers of the world, and has been proclaimed the "number one source for good American Merlot" by The New York Times. An opulent wine to enjoy with hearty fare.” Enough said. Make it yours tonight.

High Horsepower Cabernets Nellcote 500 Chevaux is an automobile racing term; French for “500 horsepower.” Nellcôte founder and vintner Tyler Olbres is an avid car-racing fan, and has himself driven in the Monaco Rallye for Classic Cars. Take home a Magnum of this high-horsepower Cabernet, meant to be sleek, powerful, and fully able to go the distance. The 500 Chevaux shows rich, concentrated aromas of blue and black fruit: blackcurrants, blueberries, and blackberries that evolve into fresh blueberry pie with notes of violet and fruit compote. Sweet, spicy oak suggests toasted barrels, espresso and dark chocolate, with intimations of savory cedar and cigar box unfolding in the background. On the palate, the wine is powerful and large-scale, with layers of concentrated, dark fruit. The structure is firm, the tannins are radiant, and the mouthfeel is sumptuous. The wine finishes with length and grace, showing oak spice, rich berry fruit, cedar and dark chocolate. Uncommonly concentrated and perfectly balanced, this Cabernet has the heart and the substance to age gracefully, well into the future.

Pinot Perfection ZD Wines This release of the Founder’s Reserve Pinot Noir marks ZD’s 45th Anniversary vintage. The fruit for the Founder’s Reserve Pinot Noir is sourced entirely from ZD’s organically certified Carneros Estate Vineyard. The small 6 acre block planted to the Hanzell clonal selection is dry-farmed and meticulously tended to by Rafael Llamas, ZD’s longtime vineyard manager. The small clusters of berries produce a concentrated wine with an intense aroma and flavor profile. Gentle winemaking practices in the cellar, including hand punch downs during fermentation and a careful selection of French oak barrels for aging, has led to a wine that consistently reflects its distinct terroir. The 2013 Founder’s Reserve Pinot Noir exhibits a beautiful aroma defined by a core of briary cherry, plum and rhubarb notes. Subtle hints of cedar, toasted nuts and vanilla complement the palate which is ripe, lush and well balanced. This is a wine that is drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop greater complexity for many years to come. Only 830 cases produced of this commemorative wine honoring ZD’s Founder Norman deLeuze. Enjoy!

Volunteers Without the help of dozens of businesses and organizations, a fundraiser of this caliber would not happen. An event of this magnitude is a combination of planning, execution and generous donors and supporters, along with a little bit of magic. But it is the volunteers, community partners and the Wine Auction Committee and Chairs who bring all these components together to create one special and cohesive event. The volunteers are an organized and invaluable army of unpaid community members who give up their weekends and donate time and sweat equity to make this event seamless and successful. The community supporters help us figure out all the complex and necessary logistics. And the Wine Auction Committee and Auction Chairs spend endless hours procuring auction lots and providing helpful feedback. Hundreds of behind-the-scenes jobs over the course of the year result in this top-notch event. We can’t thank you enough.

SAY THANK YOU TO A VOLUNTEER!
