Short News One CRPF jawan killed in encounter in Pulwama, 1 civilian injured
New Delhi :A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, Mandeep Kumar, was killed and a civilian injured in an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir which began in the wee hours of Saturday. The security forces had launched a massive search operation in Pulwama after they received information of militant presence in the araa. The militants managed to flee from the area in the cover of darkness. “As soon as the search party approached the suspect’s house, militants hiding inside fired indiscriminately due to which the house owner Bashir Ahmad sustained an injury and is stated to be stable now,” the official was quoted as saying by news agancy.
Naxals biggest enemies of tribals, poor: Rajnath Raipur : Union minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said Naxals were the “biggest enemies” of tribals as well as the poor and accused the rebels of misleading them. He was addressing a public rally in Dantewada to flag off Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh’s “Vikas Yatra”, which aims to highlight the achievements of the BJP’s 15-year rule in the state. The Union home minister said despite the hurdles put up by the Maoist rebels, the Centre and the state government were committed to boosting development in the region. He praised the Chhattisgarh chief minister, saying the state had witnessed tremendous growth under his leadership.
Thunderstorm, squall likely in UP in next 2 days
Lucknow : Thunderstorm and squall are likely to hit Uttar Pradesh in the next two days, the meteorological department has warned. According to the MeT department, the wind speed may reach up to 50 to 70 kilometres per hour. In its forecast, the department said rain and thunderstorm are very likely at a few places over western Uttar Pradesh and at many places over eastern parts of the state. Thunderstorm accompanied with squall is very likely in parts of the state between 8.30 am on Sunday and 8.30 am the day after, it said. Several parts of the state were hit by severe storm this week leaving 18 dead and 27 others injured.

A sessions court in Mumbai on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to two persons in the 2012 murder case of actor Meenakshi Thapa. It awarded the sentence to Amit Jaiswal, 36 and his girlfriend Preeti Surin, 26. "Jaiswal and Surin, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, had befriended Thapa, 26 on the sets of 'Heroine', a Bollywood film directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. Both the accused used to work as model coordinators. Under the impression that the actor belonged to a rich family, the duo hatched a conspiracy to abduct her and demand Rs 15 lakh ransom from her family. They persuaded the actor, who
had moved to Mumbai from Dehradun, to accompany them to Uttar Pradesh on March 12, 2012, stating that there was an acting assignment for her. Subsequently, they had abducted her, but after realising that her family was in no position to

Hindus to agitate if SC verdict against Ram Mandir: VHP chief Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje Haridwar : Newly elected VHP international president Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje on Saturday said Hindus will launch a countrywide agitation to mount pressure on their local MPs for passage of a law in Parliament facilitating the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya if the Supreme Court’s verdict “goes against their faith”. While responding to a question on national security in an exclusive interview with Dawn, Sharif asked why Pakistan was unable to complete the trial in the
case even after nine years. “Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t
we complete the trial?” he said. Ten Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists had sailed into Mumbai from Karachi and carried out coordinated attacks, killing 166 people and injuring over 300 in
November 2008. Jamaat-udDawa (JuD) chief Hafeez Saeed is the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The outfit was declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the US in June 2014. The case has entered into the 10th year but none of its suspects in Pakistan has been punished yet, showing that the case had never been in the priority list of the country that appears to be keen to put it under the carpet.
Chennai : The family of former finance minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said that the chargesheets filed by the Income Tax Department (ITD) were ‘baseless allegations’ as the investments made overseas have been mentioned in their Income Tax returns. The chargesheets filed under the black money law against P chidambaram, his wife Nalini, his son Karti and Karti’s wife Srinidhi and a firm, Chess Global Advisory Services Private Limited, linked to Karti came under the scanner. To this effect, the chartered accountants for P Chidamabarm’s wife Nalini and by Karti Chidamabaram, his wife and a firm Chess Global Advisory Services Private Limited filed two different statements but with similar replies. It said: “The Income Tax returns are prepared and filed on the advice of
the chartered accountants. The investments in question were made through bank remittances. They were duly disclosed in the returns of income filed under Section 139 of the Income Tax Act for the relevant assessment year. It is totally wrong to allege there was a wilful failure to disclose the investments. The returns of income are a complete answer to the baseless allegation.

Amultitude of hopes and expectations have been hitched to the new Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). There is a widespread belief that this is perhaps the best possible instrument so far—in terms of potential and capacity—for resolving the overhang of non-performing assets (NPAs) in the financial system. Conviction in the IBC’s abilities is also blended with large doses of faith: Clearing the backlog of NPAs will allow banks to indulge in fresh lending, thereby stimulating economic growth. There is merit and rationale for this rising groundswell of belief in the IBC. Compared to previous resolution frameworks—joint lenders’ forum, strategic debt restructuring, scheme for sustainable structuring of stressed assets, to name a few—the IBC seems to have plugged numerous gaps that plagued the earlier systems. It is time-bound, decision-oriented and provides disincentives for promoters trying to shield themselves from creditors. It has been a long and instructive journey when compared with the first attempt at sorting out insolvency through the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR). That said, there is a chance of the resolution process reverting to the BIFR mode owing to bankrupt shareholders finessing the shortcomings in the legal framework. The IBC’s many attributes also hide numerous flaws, including corporate India’s dodgy relationship with capital, providing it with incentives to manipulate the system. Ten out of the first lot of 12 cases—“dirty dozen”—referred to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for resolution have collided against their 270-day deadline, with some of them already exceeding the time limit. The resolution processes of these cases provide multiple pointers to the path that lies ahead and the course correction that is now required. At the core of the corrective mechanism must be a recognition of the balance of rights among various stakeholders—company promoters, other shareholders, members of the workforce, financial creditors, operational creditors, resolution professionals, members on the specialized NCLT and appellate tribunal benches, bidders—and how that squares with the IBC’s legal framework. Developments so far give rise to two observations. One, the regulatory and legal framework is being liberally interpreted and tweaked by various stakeholders, often at odds with either the code itself or occasionally militating against its very spirit. Two, as things stand, the current process and legal framework accords superior rights to some stakeholders, which may tick all the relevant commercial and legal boxes in a capitalist system but might fail a larger morality (or even ethical) test.

'Dangal' star and national award-winning actor Zaira Wasim has opened up about her battle with depression, saying she needs a "complete break" from work and school to figure things out. In a lengthy post on Instagram, the 17-year-old actor said she has been suffering from the illness for the past four years, during which she even had "suicidal thoughts", but did not share it with anyone due to the stigma around the issue. "I'm writing this to admit and confess that I, for a very long time have been suffering from severe anxiety and depression. It's almost been four years and I've always been embarrassed and scared to admit it not only because of the stigma that goes around with the word depression with it but most importantly because of always being told that 'You're too young to be depressed' or 'It's just a phase'," Zaira wrote in her post. Zaira said the "awful phase" has put her in situations the actor never wished or chose to be in. "Perhaps it could've been 'just a phase' but this awful phase has put me in situations I never wished or chose to be in.

Actor Vicky Kaushal is going through extensive military training for his next project Uri, based on Indian Army’s surgical strikes across the LoC. The actor, who plays a Pakistani major in ‘Raazi’ that released today, will be playing a commander-in-chief who led the 2016 surgical strike in Uri. Aditya Dhar is directing the project. “I am training for five hours every day. Then there is three to four hours of military training, you get to enhance your stamina, go through obstacle training, you are slithering. I am receiving gun training right now,” the actor told news agancy. “I go to gym and train at the naval base in Cuffe Parade (in Mumbai). Army men help me with training. As of now they are helping us. I have to gain
some weight. I am looking forward to the shoot,” he adds. The film produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s production arm, RSVP, will go on floors soon. “We will fly to Serbia, where we will shoot for two months,” he says. Recently,
the teaser of ‘Sanju’, a biopic on Sanjay Dutt, was released in which Kaushal apparently plays the role of Ranbir Kapoor’s on-screen friend. “You will see me and the entire cast in the official trailer, which will come in due time. It

Entitlement cards to be issued to private land owners losing land for Bullet train project Gandhinagar : In order to allay apprehensions regarding land acquisition for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) will be issuing “entitlement cards” that will carry details of the compensation awarded to each of the 6000 private land owners whose property will be acquired for the project. “Land acquisition has many steps. Now we are almost in the last step of joint measurement survey. Compensation will be decided once the joint measurement survey is over. We have decided the entitlement matrix philosophically, which is more than what is provided in the (Land Acquisition) Act. For example, we will be giving them 25 percent extra for the terms of the consent. There is lot of compensation for Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) and so we are entitlement matrix. Once the joint measurement survey is done, we will know what kind of compensation an individual will get,” Achal Khare, managing director of NHSRCL said while interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of a lecture organised at IIT-Gandhinagar on Saturday. “To allay their apprehensions, we will be providing each land loser an entitlement card which will have his bank account number and all the items against which he is going to get compensation.

Ahmedabad : In a boost to the “Make in India” programme for the Indian defence forces, the first batch of “Made in Gujarat”, Howitzer artillery guns, christened “K9 Vajra-T”, is ready to be delivered to the Indian Army next month, official said on Friday. “In Hazira, where I head the manufacturing unit, we are building the K9 Vajra which is a 155 millimetre/52 calibre Howitzer,” Sanjiv Mulgaonkar, head of the Larsen & Toubro Limited’s (L&T) defence manufacturing facility at Hazira, said at an audio-video presentation of the new gun at “Defence Conclave 2018” organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here. The gun is a variant of K9 Thunder, currently being used by the South Korean army. “These self-propelled Howitzer guns are being developed under the “Buy global” programme where foreign companies are allowed to participate,” he said, adding that they are being made with the help of South Korean Hanwha Techwin (earlier Samsung) as technology partner. The two companies had inked a Rs 4,600-crore deal with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 2017 to supply 100 such guns within 42 months. “We were contracted to deliver 10 guns by November 8, 2018, but we will start delivering next month itself. Our internal trials are going on right now. They are in final trials right now at the Hazira facility. After the trials finish, we will offer them to the Indian Army,” Mulgaonkar added. The guns are currently being tested on the newly built test-track facility at Hazira. “This is a flagship programme for us and all those in Gujarat. We are doing more than 50 per cent indigenisation for this Howtizer… The base technology came from Korea.
