He also said the government was leaving no stone unturned towards water conservation. Addressing the nation in his 43rd Mann ki Baat radio programme, Modi said the Swachh Bharat Summer

internship was an opportunity for young people to bring about a change in society. “I urge the college students, NCC and NSS youth, students of Nehru Yuva Kendra to come forward and contribute towards the welfare of society. Congress will win every election from now, emerge victorious in 2019, says Rahul After plane snag, Rahul Gandhi says he will undertake Kailash yatra post Karnataka elections

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday announced that he would undertake the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage post-Karnataka Assembly polls, saying the thought struck him when he was travelling to the state in a chartered aircraft that suddenly came down by 8,000 feet four days ago. New Delhi : Congress President Rahul Gandhi, sounding the poll bugle for the 2019 general elections, on Sunday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued silence over issues related to corruption, women safety, bank loan frauds and foreign ammunition deals during a ‘Jan Aakrosh rally’ in New Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The rally, Gandhi’s first in Delhi as party president, was organised by the Congress to corner the BJP just weeks before the Karnataka elections. Gandhi said, “The Congress will win every election from now on and will also emerge victorious in 2019.” Slamming PM Modi for failing to deliver on his promises made in the 2014 election campaign, Rahul Gandhi said, “When PM Modi speaks, people have to search hard for shreds of truth within his speeches.” Targetting power minister Piyush Goyal over charges of corruption, Gandhi said, “Union Minister Piyush Goyal makes dubious business deals benefitting companies linked to him through his position.

Not 'Jan Akrosh', Cong rally sign of 'Parivar Akrosh': BJP chief Amit

Amit Shah on Sunday tore into the Congress party, saying that the 'Jan Akrosh' rally organised by the latter was, in reality, a 'Parivar Akrosh' rally. Taking to his Twitter handle, the BJP chief said that the rally organised by the Congress highlighted the increasing irrelevance of a "dynasty and their courtiers," who were overthrown from one State after another in the elections. "A dynasty and their courtiers, who were sent out of state after state by 'Jan Aadesh' now pretend to represent 'Jan Akrosh.'

Saying that conservation of water was in the heart of Indians and it should be a social responsibility, the PM claimed that in 2017-18, about Rs 35,000 crore was spent on water preservation alone. “Around 150 lakh hectares of land got benefited with these steps. The budget of MGNREGA is also used for water conservation,” Modi said.

JKLF chief Yasin Malik ‘assaulted’, arrested on way to protest march; police deny reports Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik was allegedly assaulted and arrested on Saturday when the separatist leader was on way to take part in a demonstration at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. The police have, however, strongly rebutted the reports of an assault on Malik. According to JKLF spokesman, the police stopped Malik’s car when he was on his way to take part in the protest meet called by the Joint Resistance Leadership

– an amalgam of separatist outfits – and assaulted him. They claimed that Malik and Bashir Kashmiri, who was accompanying the JKLF chief, were later arrested. Condemning the assault on Malik, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tweeted: “Strongly condemn police assault, manhandling and arrest of JKLF chief #YasinMalik by police when he was on way to #JamaMasjid to take part in a peaceful protest against unabated killings of youth, use of force on student and continuous illegal arrests of leaders by NIA.”

Modi govt’s style of functioning poses threat to democracy, says Manmohan Singh New Delhi : Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday revived his attack on the ruling dispensation, saying the democracy of the country is in danger with the Modi government consistently undermining its constitutional institutions. “The manner in which the Modi government is functioning, it can also pose a threat to democracy

in the country. In the last few days, what happened in Indian Parliament is before the people of the country (to see),” Singh said while addressing the ‘Jan Akrosh Rally’ at Ramlila Maidan. Singh stated that the Modi-led central government has failed to fulfil all its promises it made before coming to power and added that it is the time it should

present a report card of its works to the people of the country. The former PM also claimed the anger among all sections of the society has shot up in the last four years due to the rising threat to the safety and security of the people and the vanishing employment opportunities, which has left the youths worried. The Modi

government, he said, seems hardly perturbed despite rising attacks against the minorities, the Dalits and the women. He also accused the Modi government of thwarting the Opposition’s ‘No Confidence Motion’ in Parliament and said it did everything possible and conspired to stop it from being taken up in Parliament.

The formal sector has Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a gender bias problem Deepika Padukone to collaborate again?

Indian women face immense obstacles when they try to join the labour force. It is generally assumed that the problem is restricted to the traditional rather than the modern segments of the economy. It follows that a shockingly low female labour force participation rate will rise as formal enterprises grow. A recent paper by the World Bank, Reflections Of Employers’ Gender Preferences In Job Ads In India: An Analysis Of Online Job Portal Data, undermines this optimistic assumption. An analysis of more than 800,000 online job recruitment advertisements in the formal and informal sectors shows explicit gender targeting as well as a salary gap in the Indian job market. The data offers harsh insights into the problems faced by working women even in cities—the type that is more likely to be searching online for job opportunities. The study finds rampant gender targeting for elementary jobs, with men preferred for intensive outdoor work and women preferred for care-giving jobs. Although professional occupations exhibit less gender bias, they can’t be termed gender neutral either. Interestingly, the jobs that prefer women—business process outsourcing centres, teaching and service industries—pay male employees better. This inconsistent relationship between demand for female employees and salary offered indicates that men are valued more by employers. The existence of lopsided gender preference in the Indian labour market can be explained, in part, by statistical discrimination theory. Economists Edmund Phelps and Kenneth J. Arrow have argued that inequality may persist due to lack of information about the ability of workers in the demographic group that is being discriminated against. This leads to selection bias even if the employer is unprejudiced. The rest can be explained by deep-rooted cultural perceptions regarding gender-specific roles. The resultant occupational segregation based on gender and concentration of women in relatively low-paying jobs reduces their bargaining power to negotiate the terms of employment. Even in identical jobs, men and women have different bargaining power. This is a reality across industries and socio-economic strata. For a high-profile example, look at Hollywood, where various aspects of gender discrimination are now coming into the limelight. A-list actor Jennifer Lawrence has been outspoken on such issues. On realizing the high salary gap between her and her American Hustle male co-stars, Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale, she wrote, “I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early.”

Cabrera dating?

Eight years after Audrina Patridge and Ryan Cabrera parted ways, the stars are back in each other’s lives. “They’re dating,” a source informed People.com, adding, “They’ve been spending a lot of time together recently and are having a good time.” On Thursday evening, the former couple was documented — by her stylist, Joey Tierney, on her Instagram Story — sitting side-byside on a couch and getting IV drips in their arms. “Hydrating, no big deal, on the couch,” Cabrera says in the footage as Patridge smiles next to him. Patridge and Cabrera were first linked in January 2010 and dated seriously, as documented on the MTV reality series The Hills, before splitting in May of that same year.

Newton case: Pre-summoning evidence hearing on July 19 for Rajkummar Rao's film

A Delhi court has posted hearing in the case against Bollywood movie 'Newton' for July 19, 2018 for pre-summoning evidence of the complainant. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sub-Inspector Tamal Sanyal has filed the criminal complaint and civil defamation case and sought direction to Manish Mundra, producer of the movie, and Shiladitya Bora, the CEO of production company Drishyam Films, to tender an unconditional public apology and compensate the complainant, and the CRPF. Sanyal has sought deletion of scenes allegedly portraying the CRPF in a bad light and its re-release. He alleged that false and baseless imputations were made by the makers with the sole mala fide intention to injure and harm the image of a prime central paramilitary force of the country. The 'National Coordination Committee', an umbrella organisation of multiple organizations of retired paramilitary personnel and officers, has also filed an application for impleading in the case. 'Newton' revolves around a rookie but idealistic election officer as he struggles to hold elections in a Chhattisgarh village despite the threat of Naxalite violence. It was India's official entry for the Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film category last year.

It was also reported that Kartik has been signed on by Yash Raj Films for a project.

Will announce next project at the right time, says Kartik Aaryan

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to direct Deepika Padukone once again. After creating magic on screen with Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmavaat, the next film will not be a period drama, sources say. “Bhansali enjoys working with Deepika and he has always got the best performance out of her. He has a script in place, which is a comedy film, and if things go well Deepika will once again be working with Bhansali,” a source said. It would be interesting to see Deepika in a comedy film after a long time.

Kanye West Editor and John Are Audrina Legend hang Patridge and Ryan out together - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara

'Newton' was India's official entry for the Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film category last year.

Fresh from the success of "Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety", Kartik Aaryan says he will announce his next project soon. There were rumours that the 29-yearold actor was teaming up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar for different films. It was also reported that Kartik has been signed on by Yash Raj Films for a project. When asked about the reports, the actor said, "I think whatever films I do next, a proper announcement will be made soon. I will be sharing it soon. It will be announced at the right time." Kartik was speaking at the 19th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards voting weekend here. "There is lot of excitement to attend IIFA. As an actor, you always want a stage like IIFA to host and perform in front of a lot of people," he said.

Kanye West and John Legend are definitely putting their differences aside! According to reports on People.com, the two entertainers spent some quality time together at a surprise baby shower for Chrissy Teigen, which was hosted by Kim Kardashian. This session took place after John texted Kanye to question his views on Donald Trump. “We got

love. Agree to disagree,” Kanye captioned a smiling selfie with John on his Twitter. Meanwhile, Kanye West’s new track is out, reports TMZ.com. Kanye tweeted a link to his site Friday and the song is titled Lift Yourself Master. Like a lot of things the rapper has said or posted on Twitter this week, it’s hard to tell what’s really going on here.

Alia Bhatt’s talent is mind-blowing, says Vicky Kaushal

Alia Bhatt has made another fan. This time it’s her co-star in Raazi, Vicky Kaushal, who can’t stop gushing about the actress. “I have been a huge admirer of her work. The first time I met her was after the screening of Udta Punjab and I was completely blown away by her performance. The beautiful part is she doesn’t carry any baggage of being a star. She is so comfortable in her own skin,” says Vicky. Raazi is based on Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat. The espionage thriller revolves around a Kashmiri girl, played by Alia, who is married to an army officer across the border, played by Vicky Kaushal. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Alia is playing a spy for the Indian Intelligence. Vicky says Alia has done a fabulous job in the film.

The actor was in the European nation to inaugurate a train in his name which will traverse the Golden Line all the way to the Alps.

Hop on to the ‘Ranveer singh train’

Ranveer Singh choosing Switzerland over Gully Boy director, Zoya Akhtar’s party earlier this week had little to do with the actor taking a muchneeded break. It turns out that this new Yash Raj Films favourite is also the next Bollywood poster boy for Switzerland! While there is a train coach and a few other monuments in Switzerland named after Yash Chopra, Ranveer has now joined the illustrious filmmaker. The actor was in the European nation to inaugurate a train in his name which will traverse the Golden Line all the way to the Alps. “Ranveer is popular in Switzerland. In fact, an international store chain at Interlaken has a huge poster of Deepika Padukone as well greeting tourists,” says a source. Ranveer recently had an interesting post on one of his social media handles. The actor, who is in love with the beautiful land of mountains, declared, “Switzerland... It’s my kind of country! No matter how many times you visit, there’s always something new to explore. This time around I am visiting the Lake Geneva region… This part of Switzerland is quite a hidden gem that I can’t wait to discover (sic).”

Premier League: Fabregas winner 140-6: Jofra Archer 1(1), Rahane 65(53); Basil Thampi 2-0-26-1 vs Swansea boost Chelsea's IPL 2018, RR vs SRH: Champions League hopes Rahane fails to rescue Swansea: Chelsea kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League as Blues boss Antonio Conte claimed his 50th Premier League win thanks to a Cesc Fabregas rocket in Saturday's 1-0 success at Swansea. Fabregas's fine strike came in the fourth minute and the midfielder's 50th Premier League goal was enough to give Chelsea their fourth successive victory in all competitions.Chelsea, in fifth, are hard on Tottenham's heels in the battle for a top four finish. They trail fourth-placed Tottenham by two points ahead of their London rivals' clash with Watford on Monday. Swansea remain firmly in relegation danger and Carlos Carvalhal's side are now only a point above Southampton, with a crunch battle looming against the

Saints in the last week of the season. Swansea will feel they might have had a penalty in the second half when Gary Cahill trod on substitute Nathan Dyer's foot, but referee Jonathan Moss waved away their claims. There was also a late bust-up between the Chelsea skipper and Jordan Ayew after the Swansea striker shoved the defender in the back with a late challenge, although Cahill went down holding his head. Chelsea went ahead with a goal of remarkable simplicity in the fourth minute, but which was all too easy for the liking of Carvalhal. Andy King lost possession in midfield, which allowed Eden Hazard to dance around Ki SungYueng and play in Fabregas who curled the ball first time beyond keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

said: "For sure. I will have to change clubs because you (media) don't allow me to stay here! "I would see myself doing it but the new concept of media, social media, the pundit industry, the way people can express and influence the opinion, it is too much pressure - not just for the manager - but also for the club. "It is impossible for someone to resist for a long time, especially without any kind of success. "To stay a manager, to have four or five years to try to get a trophy and to improve the team, I don't think you allow that any more." But the Portuguese reckons he can stay at United longer than his other clubs after confessing his days of itchy feet are over.

IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings' Deepak Chahar out for 2 weeks with hamstring strain

hosts as Sunrisers continue winning run

New Delhi: What comes as a big blow for Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), fast bowler Deepak Chahar could be ruled out of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), for at least two weeks with a hamstring strain. Chahar sustained the injury during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday. "He (Chahar) has had hamstring injuries in the past, he has a pretty good idea when he is in trouble," espncricinfo quoted Super Kings' coach Stephen Fleming as saying.

Jaipur: Sunrisers Hyderabad cruised to their second win on the trot in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) as they beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 12 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday. RR lost Rahul Tripathi early on but Sanju Samson and Ajinkya Rahane stitched a fifty partnership. However, the men in orange found a way back into the match as they picked up wickets regularly. Skipper Rahane was the lone hope for the hosts but Kane Williamson and co held their nerves to continue their winning run.

"Conservatively, it's probably a couple of weeks, which is a bit of a blow," Fleming added. He further confirmed that Lungi Ngidi, who had flown back to South Africa, post the death of his father, has rejoined the CSK squad. Chahar has played in all the games for Super Kings so far and has picked six wickets at an average of 25.50, including a match-winning 3 for 15 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The CSK will play their next match against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) on April 30.

Master and apprentice: Jharkhand's Ishan Kishan gets wicket-keeping aid from MS Dhoni Pune: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one such player with a sharp cricketing brain. Be it, seniors or youngsters, they never shy to approach the veteran cricketer whenever his important advice is needed. And despite Dhoni's contribution on the field, his valuable inputs go a long way. With his growing age, Dhoni still remains one of the best in the business behind the stumps and his lightning-quick wicket-keeping reflexes are

second to none. And on Saturday, as Mumbai Indians (MI) clashes with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL), youngster Ishan Kishan was spotted learning the tricks of the trade from the former Team India captain. Kishan, who has played multiple times with Dhoni for Jharkhand, could be seen receiving a few wicket-keeping tips. “Dhoni bhai saw me at the nets and walked up to me and said

Business

that I needed to curtail my attacking instincts, to begin with. He believed that to play a long innings I needed to be a little more compact and I did just that. He asked me to change my stance as well and when it comes from someone like Dhoni bhai, you know you can trust his observation. I got time to rework my stance and train with my new stance during the camp ahead of the season and I realised that I was feeling a lot better at

the crease. I have maintained that stance since and I have seen that it has enhanced my batting, the 19-year-old said recently in an interview with CricketNext. Coming back to the match, Dhoni achieved another milestone as he became the first player in IPL history to captain 150 games. However, it was a day to forget for CSK as Rohit Sharma guided the Paltans to their second win of the season.

Maruti aims for 10 per cent increase in sales network in FY19 New Delhi: The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) aims to expand its sales network, including dealerships of its LCV Super Carry, by at least 10 per cent this fiscal, according to a top company official. The company, which currently has a network of around 2,625 dealerships across the country, is also aiming for a double digit growth in the current fiscal. "We are continuously increasing our sales network. The company sold over 10,000 units of its LCV Super Carry from over 100 outlets last year. Kalsi said Super Carry sales

would be even better this fiscal with network in place across the country. Commenting on the sales outlook for the current fiscal, Kalsi said that with various macro economic factors in the positive zone, the company expects to again achieve a double digit growth this fiscal.

New Delhi: Reliance Industries plans to shut oil and gas production at its main fields in KG-D6 block in the coming months and begin complying with the government's guidelines for decommissioning facilities in the Bay of Bengal block where output has hit its lowest ever. "Adhering to Site Restoration Guidelines issued by Government of India, RIL submitted Bank Guarantee for Decommissioning activity for existing producing fields (D1D3 and MA)," the company said in an investor presentation post announcing its fourth quarter earnings. RIL

had till date made 19 oil and gas discoveries in the Krishna Godavri basin. Of these, MA -- the only oil discovery in the block -- began production in September 2008. Dhirubhai-1 and 3 (D1 and D3) fields went onstream in April 2009. While the company did not provide any timelines for decommissioning and stopping of production at the fields that have witnessed output drop to a fourth of peak, sources privy to the development said MA field may be shut as early as October after the current lease of a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, which processes output from the field, expires.

The proposals to encourage digital transactions are likely to be placed before the GST Council.

Govt working on a proposal to incentivise digital transactions

New Delhi: The government is working on a proposal to incentivise digital transactions by providing cashbacks to businesses and price benefits to consumers, a source said. As per the proposal being worked out by the Revenue Department, consumers paying through the digital mode would be offered a discount over the maximum retail price (MRP). The discount would be capped at Rs 100. Businesses, on the other hand, could get a cashback based on the quantum of turnover through the digital mode. The proposals to encourage digital transactions are likely to be placed before the GST Council, chaired by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and comprising state ministers,

on May 4. According to the source, the issue of providing incentive for digital transaction was discussed at a meeting held in the Prime Minister's Office. During the meeting, three possible modes of incentivising businesses to go in for digital transactions were discussed. Apart from cashbacks, a proposal to allow businesses to obtain tax credit on the

basis of turnover obtained through digital mode was also discussed. This would have worked like the input tax credit mechanism wherein businesses can credit for taxes paid on raw materials. Besides, the option of allowing businesses to offset their GST liability up to a threshold for using digital transaction was also deliberated.

The two accused have moved the High Court on the ground that the Supreme Court while setting aside the order of a fresh trial court, had allowed recalling only 26 witnesses. They said that the trial court had finished examination of the 26 witnesses, following which it passed an order for the recall of certain witnesses for further clarification. The six witnesses include IPS officer Raghvendra Vatsa, serving in the CBI on deputation, who had initially probed the case as part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The trial court has summoned Vatsa to understand the call data record (CDR) of

the accused persons and their whereabouts as recorded in the data. Other than him, the court has also recalled several nodal officers of mobile phone service provider companies. A witness from the Junagadh Road Transport Office has also been summoned to ascertain the ownership of a car which was used by one of the accused, Bahadursinh Vadher, a police constable, for sending Rs 11 lakh to another co-accused Panchan Desai. The car was seized by police inspector S M Chaudhary. The RTO officer is required to ascertain who owned the car during the months of June, July and August in 2010.
