‘Ram Rajya’, where no discrimination exists, is ideal form of governance, says Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said the ideal form of governance is ‘Ram Rajya’ where no discrimination against the poor, deprived or any other section exists. “Why have we accepted Ram Rajya as the best example of governance…because there is no discrimination of any kind under it…when there is no discrimination against the poor, deprived and all sections of society honestly get what is rightfully theirs. This is the reason we have accepted Ram Rajya as the ideal form of governance,” he said.Addressing an event to mark the 69th birth anniversary of Sone Lal Patel, founder of Apna Dal, an alliance partner in the ruling NDA, Adityanath said, “People used to instigate Muslims in the name of Modiji. We have also heard the reality from the Muslims of Gujarat that they feel most secure in Gujarat. I feel this is the first and biggest example of good governance.” The UP chief minister said when prime minister Narendra Modi took the oath, he said his government will work in the interest of all the 125 crore people of the country including villagers, poor, farmers, women, and deprived sections. I think what all has been done in the past four years is exemplary, he added. Paying homage to Sonelal Patel, Adityanath said the efforts in Uttar Pradesh to bring all those deprived of basic amenities in the mainstream and uplifting their living standards was actually a realisation of his dreams.

11 bodies, 11 pipes: Shocking details behind mass death in Delhi’s Burari

New Delhi: Chilling and strange details have come up during the investigation into the death of 11 of a family in north Delhi’s Burari. In a major revelation, investigators have come across 11 pipes protruding from one wall of the house, all placed close together, however, having no water outlet. The pipes face an empty plot and are apparently not outlets for water. Four of the pipes points straight while four are bent. One pipe is a little away from the others. According to a report on First Post, Kishan Kumar, a local from Burari, explains the theory linking the 11 pipes. He said the pipes are connected to the washrooms adding that he has often noticed

the family scribbling religious messages like dohas and shlokas (religious scriptures) on a blackboard outside their shop. The Bhatias had a grocery store and lived in an apartment on the first floor. Out of the 11 members, only one, 77-year-old Narayan Devi, was found on the floor, with the signs of hanging while the 10 others were found hanging from a net attached to the ceiling.

Government by the people is crucial for India

The World Trade Organization, European Union and G-7—global institutions wanting to bring order to international economy and trade—are shaking. The underlying principle on which these institutions were founded, of nations handing over jurisdictional rights to supranational bodies, is no longer acceptable to large numbers of citizens even within those countries that were founders of these institutions, of which the US used to be the undisputed leader. Social divisiveness is increasing within countries, authoritarian leaders are gaining power and liberties are being suppressed. This is not a pretty picture for liberals who would like to see more individual liberties, more social harmony, and freer international trade and movements of people. In the past decade, several developments—such as Brexit, the election of US President Donald Trump, the elections of several governments with fascist leanings in Europe and Turkey, and the rise of communitarian politics in India—have made liberals, who were feeling at home in a globalized world, feel like “strangers in their own lands (the title of an insightful book by sociologist Arlie Russel Horthschild about the rise of the Tea Party in middle America). The Edelman Trust Barometer, an annual survey of citizens in 28 countries, which include the US, European nations, and India, reports that in two-thirds of the countries, fewer than 50% of respondents trust mainstream business, government and media. While businesses may selectively choose data from the survey to show that trust in governments may have declined more than in businesses, the most significant finding of the survey is that trust in major institutions of all kinds has reduced. Indeed, only 15% believe “the present system is working; 53% do not. We humans make sense of our lives not with economists’ numbers such as gross domestic product but through stories about who we are, where we came from, where we are going, and how we will get there. The big new story liberals made up after World War II was one of universal human rights, of democratically-elected governments to whom individuals would give powers to rule, and global institutions to which nations (who were wont to quarrel with each other) would assign global governance responsibilities. The right of every human being to choose, and to be whosoever she or he wishes to be, was an essential feature of this story. Individuals were asked to hand over greater powers over their lives to remoter governments and international institutions for the sake of a universal good. Large industries grew—of self-help books, telling people to stand up for themselves and be happy, and of therapists helping them when they were not. The tension between the need to be in control and the fact of being less in control seems to have become too much now.

The movies that have crossed the Rs 150 crore mark are Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat and Salman Khan’s Race 3. In fact, with its earnings from the second day, Sanju has become the highest day 2 earner of Bollywood, leaving Race 3 and Padmaavat far behind, which is a considerable feat for a Ranbir Kapoor film, seeing how the young star’s previous films like Bombay Velvet, Jagga Jasoos and Besharam had completely tanked at the box office.

India vs England: We need to be at our best to beat India, says Eoin Morgan

Manchester : England skipper Eoin Morgan is hoping to “wisely” use the confidence and experience they have gained by drubbing Australia as they gear up to clash with India, which is likely to be a more challenging team for the hosts. England humiliated Australia 5-0 in the ODI series ahead of the limited series against India, beginning on Tuesday. “Generally it is a different challenge particularly when you play against subcontinent teams. It normally exposes sides like ourselves, South Africa and Australia to spin, reverse swing and

other different challenges to that we are normally used to. But we are in the middle of our summer and we have played a lot of cricket. Hopefully, we will be able to deal with it,” Morgan said on Monday. “I don’t think it’s a case of putting it aside when there are huge positives to take from the Australia series. You can use a lot of that confidence and experience wisely. Having had a few days off and time to reflect on the series it’s something we can call upon and might need to in either series – T20s or ODIs – when our backs are against the wall.

Wimbledon 2018: Roger Federer shows new look, familiar dominance

Gautam Gambhir will take all key cricketing decisions: DDCA secretary

Mumbai: Cornered during the 17 month regime of Courtappointed administrator Justice Vikramajit Sen, senior opener Gautam Gambhir will be back as “government nominee” in DDCA, informed newly elected secretary Vinod Tihara. The twotime world champion cricketer was appointed government nominee last year but Justice Sen made it clear that he won’t be allowed as long as he remains an active cricketer. However, after Rajat Sharma panel swept to victory in the DDCA elections, secretary Tihara made it clear that they have grand plans for Gambhir. “The elected members will look after administrative side but cricketing decisions will be taken

by cricketer. Gautam is one of the biggest names in Delhi cricket. It’s only natural, he will play a major role. You can put it on record, Gautam will take all policy decisions with regards to cricket,” Tihara said during an interaction at the Kotla. “How can we forget that after the KP Bhaskar incident, he was summoned for a disciplinary hearing and made to sit outside and wait like a criminal. That’s not how you treat a celebrated cricketer,” the secretary said. Tihara made it clear that Gambhir’s decision will be accorded due respect and it will be him, who would decide on who all will constitute the Cricket Affairs Committtee.

Mumbai: New look, same old dominance for Roger Federer at Wimbledon. The eight-time champion began his title defense in style at the All England Club, brushing aside Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 in 79 minutes on Centre Court. Lajovic held serve in the opening game but that was as good as it got for the 58th-ranked Serb. Federer reeled off the next nine games to take charge and was in cruise control for the rest of the match. The 36-year-old Swiss star never faced a break point and showed off the full repertoire of shots that has made him the most successful male player at Wimbledon. The only

things unfamiliar about Federer were his clothes. He wore a Uniqlo outfit for the first time after ending his career-long apparel partnership with Nike. But it clearly had no effect on his game. “Felt right at home again, so that was a really nice feeling,” he said. “I got the early break in each set and then was able to bring it home. I’m really happy with my focus as well, pointfor-point mentality.” Federer is looking for a record-extending ninth title at the All England Club but only needed to step onto the court to create a bit more history. He is the first man in the Open era to play in the grass-court Grand Slam for a 20th straight year.

Mohamed Salah signs new long-term contract with Liverpool Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said the new contract for Salah was a sign of the club’s ambition.

Mumbai: English Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool. The Egyptian forward signed the deal a year after arriving at Liverpool from Roma, and as he tries to recover from a disastrous six-week period including injury and World Cup elimination. The new contract comes without a release clause. Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said the new contract for Salah

was a sign of the club’s ambition. “We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield where they can fulfil all their professional dreams and ambitions – we are working hard together to achieve this,” he said in a club statement Monday. “When someone like Mo Salah commits and says this place is my home now, it speaks very loudly.” Financial terms were not disclosed. Salah scored 44 goals from 52 games

Gujarat: Intimate photos of BJP Two passenger youth leader goes viral on social trains converted media, party says he was suspended to memu Rajkot : A day after semi-nude photographs of a BJP youth wing leader with foreign girls went viral, the Surendranagar district unit of the party said that he had been suspended last month after leaders “learned about his character.” Interestingly, while the photos were shared on social media, Deepak Vaniya, secretary of Wadhwan city unit of the youth BJP was in jail in connection with a case of alleged assault on police and rioting. Vaniya’s photos had gone viral on Sunday. The photos showed Vaniya sharing intimate moments with a Thai girl in a semi-naked condition. The photos were first shared in ‘Garvi Gujarat, BJP Gujarat’ WhatsApp group run by Chirag Patel of Surendranagar. “The photos were shared by Vaniya himself on Saturday. But I was out of station and came to know about it only on Sunday. Vaniya himself had shared them and had even used them

as his profile pictures,” Chirag, who identifies himself as a BJP supporter told The Indian Express. He added that he was earlier a volunteer of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), the outfit of Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel but had later started supporting the BJP. “My group has around 200 BJP leaders as its members. Vaniya is one of them,” he said. Vaniya was earlier arrested by B Division police of Surendranagar on June 19 in connection with a case of alleged assault on police, dacoity, rioting. He had spent four days in the custody of B Division police before he was sent to judicial custody on June 24. Police have also arrested four others in connection with the case. However, Dilip Patel, president Surendranagar district unit of BJP said they had suspended Vaniya last month. “After learning about his behaviour and character, we had orally suspended Vaniya around three months ago.

Open invitation for burglars as most new areas remain dark VADODARA: It is not just the lack of basic infrastructure in the areas under Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA), but crime too has been bothering the residents. Police do not patrol internal areas due to lack of roads, and in many places, residents themselves have formed night patrols to curb thefts. Many are also spending thousands on personal surveillance or security measures. In April 22 bikes were stolen by a gang from the up-scale residential buildings in Bhayli. Now residents are losing their sleep, taking turns to stay awake at night and patrol for collective safety. For those living in Bill and Kalali, finding houses burgled has become routine. Since many row houses remain vacant or unsold due to lack of roads, burglars have a free run of the area, breaking in and stealing costly bathroom fittings and other items. In areas like Bill, Chapad and Kalali citizens are on tenterhooks. “There have not been any major burglaries as the houses which have been broken into so far are mostly unoccupied. However, it is scary to be out once it gets dark,” said Rahul Patel, a resident of Bill. Though these areas are outside the limits of Vadodara Municipal Corporation, they come within the jurisdiction of city police. Sources in Manjalpur police station say that it is difficult for them to patrol internal areas of Bill and Kalali at night as there are no proper roads.

Surat’s underground garbage system shows way to Delhi and other big cities SURAT/NEW DELHI: Surat is showing the way to Delhi and other big cities that are struggling to manage garbage spilling out of ‘dhalaos’ and filling the air with foul smell. The city’s municipal body has installed 43 underground garbage bins, each of which can contain up to 1.5 tonnes of waste as a part of the Smart City Mission and these are fitted with sensors to send alerts to the control room as soon as 70% of the container is full. These underground bins have been placed on footpaths and each of them have two inlets for throwing waste — one for individuals and the other for municipal carts bringing collected waste — to help people avoid littering. “We will be placing 75 such bins. After this started in a limited area, more and more

municipal councillors are making similar demands. Once people have good experience and see the result, they will push for better facilities. We will be expanding this to other areas as well,” said M Thennarasan, commissioner of Surat Municipal Commission. He is also the director and chairman of Surat Smart City project. At Dumbhal, which falls in the textile market area of Surat, this correspondent saw how huge metal bins were lifted using cranes and the entire waste was emptied mechanically without any individual touching it. Donald Trump says Saudis must compensate for drop in Iran oil supply

United Nations : President Donald Trump lashed out at OPEC with a warning to stop manipulating oil markets and piled pressure on US ally Saudi Arabia to raise supplies to compensate for lower exports from Iran. Trump said in a tweet on Saturday that Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud had agreed to produce more oil. The White House later walked back the president’s comments, saying the king had said his country could raise oil production if needed. On Sunday, in an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo,” Trump reiterated his call on Saudi Arabia to raise production to a new record, arguing that it should help the United States lower fuel prices since Washington is helping Riyadh in its struggle against Tehran. “Don’t forget the one negative to the Iran deal is that you lose a lot of oil, and they got to make up for it. And who is their big enemy? Iran. OK. You think of it. Iran is their big enemy, so they are going to have to do it,” Trump said.

Dhaka : Bangladesh’s Supreme Court on Monday upheld its order that stayed the bail granted by the High Court to former prime minister Khaleda Zia in a 2015 murder case, dealing a blow to the imprisoned leader. The decision means that the 72-year-old three-time former premier and opposition leader will have to stay in jail for at least another month, even if she secures bail in other cases, bdnews24 reported. Zia, the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was jailed for five years in February in connection with the embezzlement of 21 million taka (about USD 250,000) in foreign donations meant for the Zia Orphanage Trust, named after her late husband Ziaur Rahman, a military ruler-turnedpolitician. A four-member appellate bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain upheld the stay on the High Court decision granting Zia bail in the Cumilla murder case over the firebombing of a bus in February 2015, the report said. The apex court also asked the High Court to hear and dispose of the case over the bail in four weeks.
