This question cropped up in the case involving Kaliben Mori, who worked as a daily-wage field labourer at Kitak Shashtra Vibhag of Junagadh Agriculture University since 1993. She claimed that she had worked for more than 240 days a year for more than a de-

She filed a criminal complaint against the university registrar and the principal of her department in 2011. She also filed a case before a local labour court in this regard. Acting on Mori’s complaint, for violation of Section 30 of the Human Rights Act, the district court summoned the registrar and the principal in October 2011. The district court in January 2012 sent the case

papers to a magisterial court for further action. The university officials rushed to the high court against this criminal complaint for violation of human rights and argued that the court could not have taken cognizance of the case without an inquiry by the hu man rights commission and its findings. Mori’s advocate submitted that her rights needed to be protected by the court because her prayer was not heeded by the university authority.

Hollywood-Bollywood Has Priyanka Chopra shot for a song in her Hollywood film Isn’t It Romantic?

Dujana’s gun falls silent Priyanka as Centre goes all out LeT commander Abu Dujana’s killing on Tuesday, being described as one of the biggest successes for counter-terror forces in Kashmir, is in keeping with the Centre’s overall policy to go all out against terrorists with intelligence-based operations that must be taken to their logical end even in the face of local resistance. Dujana, who hails from Gilgit-Baltistan in POK, is among the over hundred terrorists to have been killed in anti-terrorist ops in J&K this year. Having infiltrated into J&K in 2012, he had been involved in attacks on security convoys and government buildings, bank robberies and arrangement of logistics and planning for the 2015 attack on a BSF convoy in Udhampur. The jeans and shadessporting youth, who was spotted from time to time with his lady friends in coffee shops, was one of the most sought-after targets since Hizbul Mujahideen’s Burhan Wani was killed in July last year, according to a senior home ministry official. “The government’s approach on Kashmir is a threepronged one; concerted action against terrorists, leading to their elimination where they refuse to surrender, notwithstanding local protests around encounter sites; parallel crackdown on Hurriyat separatists linked to terror funding and a softer attitude towards local civilians so that they don’t feel alienated or victimised,“ a home ministry official said, adding that this approach shall continue in the times to come. Sources in the government said the pressure on terrorists will be stepped up further, with definite plans to eliminate other high-value terrorists like Abu Ismail and former Hizbul leader and now chief of an alQaida-linked outfit Zakir Musa. With useful intelligence being generated by J&K Police sources on the ground and good coordination among the police, CRPF and Army, the Centre is optimistic of inflicting reverses on terrorists in the Valley. “Take Dujana’s case; the agencies were hot on his trail for some months now, though he had managed to slip away on four-five occasions. The agencies have closely watched as he fell out of favour with the top bosses in LeT, reportedly over the attack on EDI Pampore and distribution of loot from a March bank robbery. He was of late seen talking more of `khilafat’ and `shariahshahadat’ than `azaadi’, showing gravitation towards Zakir Musa’s brand of terrorism that invokes religion,“ an intelligence officer said. The J&K government temporarily shut down mobile internet services on Tuesday.

Freeze on ties with Pakistan results in Sri Lanka getting a full series

SPORTS ROUNDUP

Agency | Kolkata

A freeze in India-Pakistan bilateral cricket ties is the reason India would play a full series against Sri Lanka in November-December. The series was originally scheduled in March-April next year, but with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) hosting the Independence Cup at that time, the BCCI has agreed to the preponement, also with an eye to fill the Pakistan void. “Another reason (for the tweaking) being there was six proposed exchange of tours between India and Pakistan, which did not happen. So those spaces had to be adjusted,” acting BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary

said after the Tour, Programme and Fixtures Committee’s meeting. He also confirmed India’s participation in the Independence Cup, saying: “Sri Lanka has always co-operated with India and therefore India will be making a reciprocal short visit, only to play the Independence Cup. That’s why the tweaking has taken place.” The series would be the concluding act of a limited-overs-heavy home season, with

11 ODIs, nine T20 Internationals and three Tests, during which the Barsapara Cricket Stadium near Guwahati will make its international debut, hosting a T20 International against Australia. The Kerala Cricket Association’s new stadium in Thiruananthapuram is likely to play host to a T20 International against Sri Lanka. India will tour South Africa after the home season and Choudhary didn’t rule out a Boxing Day Test.

Players are in a good state of mind, says Dinesh Chandimal Agency | Colombo

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has said that his team is good enough to beat the world number one team India in the upcoming Test in Colombo. The hosts play the second Test of the three-match series against India on Thursday in Colombo. Sri Lanka had lost the first Test in Galle by 304 runs. Chandimal, who missed the first Test due to pneumonia, said that his team has trained hard for three days

and are in a good state of mind for the next Test. He was given the Sri Lanka captaincy after Angelo Mathews stepped down due to Sri Lanka’s loss to Zimbabwe. “We trained for three days all the players are in a good state of mind,” Chandimal said. “I go into

every match hoping to win. I have that determination and I have good players as well.” On a green pitch in Colombo, Sri Lanka are likely to go in with three spinners. Chandimal said that Malinda Pushpakumara is likely to make his Test debut.

Recalling the incidents from the Border-Gavaskar series in India earlier this year, Australia cricket captain Steve Smith has said that it was nice to get under the skin of Indian players and that he likes to annoy them a little bit. Australian cricketers have been popular for their sledging from the past but Smith’s tactics have been different. He is seen to be an animated character on the field and had a couple of encounters during the series. “I like to try and annoy them

a little bit with some of my mannerisms rather than anything I say,” Smith said on the Back Page Live panel show this week. Smith was seen in a exchange of “face-making” with Ishant Sharma in the second Test at Bangalore. After Smith’s defence against Ishant, the Indian pacer came up with some faces. Smith, in his response, just shook his head sideways. “I think I got under (the Indian team’s) skin on a few occasions, which was nice,” Smith said.

Pakistan coach’s report on Women’s World It was nice to get under Cup criticises captain Sana Mir, manager India’s skin: Steve Smith Agency | New Delhi

A review report of Pakistan’s win-less campaign at Women’s World Cup has hit out on captain Sana Mir and other senior of the team. The report, produced by coach Sabih Azhar, states that Pakistan’s senior players were self-obsessed and the manager of the team Ayesha Ashar paid attention to only senior players. The report aslo criticsed her for being “cold” towards younger play-

ers. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Azhar has revealed the positives and negatives of the team and also made some recommendations, the top most amonst them being removal of senior players and appointment of new manager. In the 14-page report, he also wrote about how Mir, the captain, was “self-centred, egotistical and being wrapped up in onself.” “My humble view is if the set of these four – three players and manager – continue with the national team, there’s absolutely no chance of players’ growth in the team,” Azhar wrote. “Juniors need confidence of the seniors, but if they are always criticised and face negative remarks, it would shake their confidence very badly and we should forget growth of women’s cricket in Pakistan.”

hugely. Initial hurdles will be there as most of our farmers are illiterate and are in bad condition. However every new thing comes with its own difficulties that will be managed with time. This way various crops whose price increases due to rainfall or bad weather conditions will be managed and will get the market. Even transport condition will also have initial hurdles that will be sorted with time.” Shri Birender Singh; Minister of Steel said,“Our aim is to strengthen the agriculture-oriented Indian economy and farmers, who play a vital role in national development. I congratulate all for the launch of e-RaKAM.”
