There are no jobs: Nitin Gadkari on demands for reservation

Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu to unveil first-ever thermal battery plant

Amid the ongoing demand for Maratha quota in jobs, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that reservation will not guarantee employment as jobs are shrinking in the country. Talking to reporters in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district, Gadkari was quoted by PTI as saying, “Let us assume the reservation is given. But there are no jobs. Because in banks, the jobs have shrunk because of IT. The government recruitment is frozen. Where are the jobs?” Adding that “backwardness is becoming a political interest,” the BJP leader said, “Everyone says I am backward. In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Brahmins are strong. They dominate politics. (And) They say they are backward. So one school of thought is that a poor is poor, he has no caste, creed or language. Whatever may be the religion

— the Muslim, the Hindu or the Maratha (a caste), in all communities there is one

Banning confessions against Indian culture of tolerance: Kerala church

Six officials suspended for ‘negligence of duty’ in Bihar shelter home rapes Patna: Six officials of Bihar’s social welfare department, which has drawn flak after the sexual abuse of girls at a state-funded shelter home in Muzaffarpur came to light, have been placed under suspension on account of “negligence and dereliction of duty”. Notifications to this effect were issued late on Saturday night. The officials put under suspension were posted as assistant directors of Child Protection Units in Muzaffarpur, Munger, Araria, Madhubani, Bhagalpur and Bhojpur districts. All the officials, suspended with immediate effect, have been charged with “failure to take adequate legal action” with regard to “assault, indecent behaviour and other undesirable activities” at shelter homes within their respective areas of jurisdiction. The Muzaffarpur shelter home incident had surfaced in a social audit conducted by Mumbaibased Tata Institute of Social Sciences. An FIR was lodged by the state social welfare department in June, which led to the arrest of 10 people. Medical reports have confirmed sexual abuse of more than 30 girls formerly lodged at the shelter home, which has since been sealed. The case has been handed over to the CBI. The suspension orders also pointed out that TISS had flagged anomalies, which the officials “did not bring to the notice of higher officials in inspection reports”.

Short News

Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will unveil the world’s first-ever thermal battery in his Andhra Pradesh state on Monday. Manufactured by the Bharat Energy Storage Technology Private Limited (BEST), the first-of-its-kind cell is aimed at boosting up renewable sources of energy production, instead of non-renewable fossil fuel-based energy generation. The technology, which will help in mitigating carbon emissions, is best suited for grid balancing and stabilisations. It will also be used to store energy for telecommunication, commercial establishments, electric vehicles and highway charging stations. It can also be effectively used in remote locations, such as hilly terrains and islands. The BEST also aims to set up a Greenfield Project in India, at an estimated cost of Rs 660 crore, through which nearly 3000 jobs are expected to be created within three years’ time.

Mumbai: The protests against women panel’s recommendation to abolish the practice of confessions in churches continue with Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church criticising the move on Sunday. “This (abolishing practice of confession) is against the spirit of ancient Indian culture which respects different faiths with tolerance,” the priests of the church said. The church further requested the government to reject

the recommendations. Earlier, the Kerala Catholic Bishops Conference sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the proposal to stop confessions in church last month. Archbishop of Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum, Soosai Pakiam, said, “NCW chairperson shouldn’t dictate that you abolish this.” Confession, according to the Christian faith, is a Sacrament. It is a way to spiritual progress and salvation.

section which has no clothes to wear, no food to eat. One school of thought also is

(that) we must also consider the poorest of the poor section in every community.” This is a “socio-economic thinking” and it must not be politicised, he added. In a tweet later, Gadkari clarified that the government is not planning to change the criteria for reservation from “castes to economic conditions.” Urging the agitators to maintain peace, Gadkari said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is trying to resolve the Maratha reservation demand by holding talks with the concerned parties. “The government is committed to Maratha reservation in a time-bound manner. It is our endeavour to ensure that when enforced, the reservation would be full proof and withstand constitutional and legal scrutiny,” Fadnavis said earlier. A total of seven people have been reported dead in the state in the last two weeks in connection with the quota agitation.

India hands over request to Antigua to extradite Mehul Choksi

New Delhi : India Sunday formally handed over the extradition request for fugitive jeweller Mehul Choksi to the Antiguan authorities, reported news agency ANI. Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are wanted in the Rs 13,578-crore fraud in Punjab National Bank (PNB). India had earlier requested authorities in Antigua and Barbuda to detain Choksi after it received information about his presence in the country. Meanwhile, Antigua officials said they couldn’t annul Choksi’s citizenship as that would violate their constitution. They claimed he got citizenship only after his credentials were “verified.” In a press statement, Antigua’s Citizenship by Investment Unit or CIU said Choksi’s application was received by the CIU in May 2017 with necessary documentary requirements, including a police clearance certificate, as required by Section 5 (2) (b) of the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Act 2013. “The said police clearance certificate from the

Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs Regional Passport Office, Mumbai, certified that there was no adverse information against Mr Mehul Chinubbhai Choksi which would render him ineligible for grant of travel facilities including visa for Antigua and Barbuda,” it said. However, they assured Indian officials that they might consider New Delhi’s extradition request once a Red Corner Notice (RCN) is issued against him. An RCN request made

by the CBI on May 29 against him is pending before Interpol. On Saturday, the Mumbai Police said they gave a clearance certificate to Choksi last year as there was no criminal case registered against Choksi in Mumbai in 2017 — the PNB scam came to light in January 2018. Police also said they have ordered an inquiry “into the matter of issuance of police verification report (PVR)” to Choksi when he obtained the passport in Mumbai in 2015.

Mamata’s ‘bloodbath’ comment on NRC aimed at vote bank: Assam CM

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Sunday that his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee’s “inflammatory” comment on NRC does not behove of a senior politician and asserted

that his government was committed to complete the exercise as per the Supreme Court order. Sonowal, a studentleader-turned politician, said precious time of the Parliament was wasted by stalling its proceedings by Banerjee’s party, the

Trinamool Congress, by spreading “false propaganda” and “wrong information” on National Register of Citizens (NRC), a list of Assam’s citizens. “Not a single law and order situation has risen in Assam after the publication of

the draft NRC, which was complete, fair and transparent.” “The statements of the West Bengal chief minister were inflammatory and divisive and aimed at her vote bank in her own state. It does not behove of a chief minister,”

Muzaffarpur rapes case

Opposition focus is on just one negative thing that happened in Bihar, says Nitish Kumar

Patana : As the opposition parties intensified their attack on the Bihar government demanding the resignation of the chief minister over the alleged sexual exploitation of minors at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur, Nitish Kumar on Sunday said that he is not going to spare anyone involved in the case. Targetting opposition and media at an event, Kumar said that many positive works have also been done in the state but they are focussed on just one negative aspect. “I am not going to spare anyone, and I have never made a compromise. Still, if you want to abuse me keep doing it,” Nitish was quoted as saying by ANI. You should also focus on the positive things.

One negative incident happened and you are just talking about it only,” added Kumar. The state government suspended six officials of social welfare department on account of “negligence and dereliction of duty”. The officials put under suspension were posted as assistant directors

of Child Protection Units in Muzaffarpur, Munger, Araria, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, and Bhojpur districts. Raja and other Political leaders during a candle march at Jantar Mantar. (Express photo By Amit Mehra) ejecting the demand for Kumar’s resignation, senior JD(U) leader K C Tyagi slammed opposition leaders including Congress president Rahul Gandhi for attending the RJD-organised protest in Jantar Mantar.

Sonowal told PTI in a telephonic interview from Guwahati. Sonowal, 55, was responding to a question on Banerjee’s comment that the NRC exercise in Assam was done with a “political motive” to divide people and it would lead to

“bloodbath” and a “civil war” in the country. He said rumours have been spread about the NRC in the country as well as abroad but he was thankful to the people of Assam, especially those from the Barak valley and the Bengalis.

Kathua rape-murder case: Accused was not in Meerut, handwriting tests claim Jammu: The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir have carried out scientific tests to support its probe that Vishal Jangotra, an accused in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua, was not in Meerut when the crime took place in January. The charges of rape and murder of the girl were framed by the district and sessions court in Pathankot against Vishal, who is pursuing a bachelors degree in agriculture from a college in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, and his juvenile cousin, his father Sanji Ram, and special police officer Deepak Khajuria alias Deepu. It is alleged in the charge sheet that Vishal, accused of raping the girl, had tried to create an alibi of his absence from the crime scene by allegedly “resorting to

manipulation of records and creation of false evidence with the connivance and assistance of his father”. According to the charge sheet filed by the crime branch, the answer sheets as well as attendance sheet of Vishal, son of alleged main accused Sanji Ram, were sent to handwriting experts, also known as Questioners of Examined Documents (QED). “The opinion given by the expert has inter alia revealed that the first name (Vishal) could not be connected with his usual signatures on the attendance sheets dated January 12 and 15,” it said. The girl was kidnapped on January 10 and subsequently killed on January 13 night. Her body was dumped by Vishal, his juvenile cousin and Khajuria on January 14 after which he took a train for Meerut.

Maximum pain

The RBI Annual Report reveals that almost all demonetised notes have been returned to the central bank. This number does not include the old notes with District Central Cooperative Banks for the short window when they were allowed to accept deposits. It also does not include the notes within Nepal. The shortfall of Rs 16,050 crore between the notes in circulation when the notes were demonetised and those that were returned, could therefore also be made up once these notes are returned to the RBI. It should come as no surprise that almost all the notes have been returned, including the stock of black money held as cash. To the extent that it was possible to exchange money legally, individuals did so. When cash limits for withdrawal made it difficult, friends and families participated. The inconvenience of long queues was overcome by household staff. A private company offered booking of “chhotus”, who would stand in long queues for people for Rs 90 an hour until their turn came. Bank employees were averse to being unhelpful to regular customers and found ways to serve them. Innumerable ways were found to work around the changing rules of exchange, cash limits, indelible ink and specified uses of old notes. Those who could not exchange money legally found money changers. Innumerable anecdotes, media reports and arrests of bank staff tell stories about how this was done all over the country. When the government announced that old notes could no longer be exchanged, but only deposited, new ways of changing the stock of unaccounted cash emerged. Individuals with bank accounts, including Jan Dhan accounts, and companies showing cash accrual from sales came into business. Large amounts could be laundered through this route as it did not involve immediate cash payouts by banks, since cash shortages still persisted with the RBI and banks scrambling to remonetise the economy. It was to be expected that even if people have to pay tax on their hoarded cash, and a change fee, they would prefer to do that rather than lose the whole amount. Data from Prowess, a database of companies in India, shows that in the quarter of demonetisation, when purchasing power had fallen sharply, net sales by companies rose significantly. At the same time, the number of tax payers and tax collections rose. The tax department is said to have found thousands of shell companies which were possibly engaging in the activity of depositing money in their accounts during the demonetisation period, claiming that it was cash from sales. This provided a means for laundering money. The total currency in circulation, according to the RBI’s annual report, is about Rs 2 lakh crore short of the pre-demonetisation period. This is partly due to the increase in focus on printing of lower denomination currency notes. Initially, the RBI had focused on printing the Rs 2,000 notes to rapidly remonetise the economy.

Ranveer said the love and support he receives from his fans pushes him to do better work.

I have evolved as an actor and as a person, says Ranveer Singh

Mumbai: He is one of the most versatile actors of current generation and Ranveer Singh says moving ahead he aspires to be a true entertainer. Ranveer said the love and support he receives from his fans pushes him to do better work. “It (love and support) keeps me motivating to do more and better work, honing my craft and trying to be the best actor and keep entertaining the public. That’s my true calling in life to be an entertainer and spread love. “I love what I do and I do my best. I have collaborated with some of the finest filmmakers and made some memorable films and experiences. I have evolved over a period of time as an actor and as a person. I feel blessed,” Ranveer told reporters here at an event. The “Padmaavat” actor said he does not judge or hold

grudges against those who doubted him as an actor. “.. It is fine. You have to see something on the basis of which you make a commitment. ‘Ram-Leela’ you could say was my breakthrough film, the director (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) gave me the opportunity to showcase my potential and things have been different in the best way possible since then.” His next release is Rohit Shetty’s “Simmba”, in which he plays a cop. He is currently on a monthlong break as Rohit has gone to shoot for his TV show “Khatron Ke Khiladi”. “It has been a mind, soul enhancing experience. Rohit sir is the king of the genre. I am growing as an artiste. It is not easy to be performing, acting in mainstream films as there is comedy, drama, action, etc.

Happy Birthday Kajol: Why Helicopter Eela is the best choice for her comeback

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kajol was quite a hit name in the 90s. Her pairing with Shah Rukh Khan too was appreciated at all times. She was often seen in Karan Johar movies and her most memorable role was ‘Kuch Kuch Hota

Hai’. Blah! The actress has done many kind of movies, and she has broken many barriers, just like Shah Rukh Khan. And then she even worked with him, which probably became a hit with people because who wouldn’t like to

see two talented actors on screen? It benefitted both Karan Johar and Kajol that they were friends as they gave cults like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’ to people all around. ut it is not fair to put Kajol

in that bracket, especially when she has played an antagonist in ‘Gupt’, ‘Dushman’ and ‘Fanaa’. The movies’ credit probably goes solely to the actress for giving the kind of performance one wouldn’t expect (of course a great one).

Hollywood - Bollywood How a Goldfish became Bharat’s heroine Katrina Kaif has stepped into the role recently vacated by Priyanka Chopra in Bharat.

New Delhi: Katrina Kaif, who stepped into Priyanka Chopra’s role after her sudden departure from Bharat, doesn’t think she’s doing the film’s team a favour. “I don’t see it that way. Ali (director Ali Abbas Zafar) is a dear friend of mine. I have worked with him in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Tiger Zinda Hai, both of which were great experiences and successful films. He called me and said, ‘Goldfish,’ he calls me Goldfish, not Katrina, ‘read the script and tell me.’ I read the script and I liked it. I’m happy to be a part of the film,” the actress says. Katrina adds that her decision to do the film is motivated purely by its storyline. “All my film choices have been made based on the script and the character. I’m excited to be working with Ali’s team again,” she says, making no mention of the film’s hero, Salman Khan.

Priyanka Chopra too hot for her role?

New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra may be all set to play Zaira Wasim’s mother in Shonali Bose’s film The Sky Is Pink, but the team is facing a practical problem — Priyanka doesn’t look old enough to be an 18-year-old’s mother. Says a source close to the project, “Priyanka didn’t hesitate for a minute before saying yes to Shonali’s film. The subject grabbed her attention

immediately, and she didn’t mind playing Zaira Wasim’s mother. She played a mother to a teenager nine years ago in Yash Raj Films’ Pyaar Impossible. So why would she have a problem now? The question is — how can this sensuous stunner be made to look like the mother of an 18-year old?” We hear that the team may resort to the use of prosthetics to make the actress

Ajay Devgn just called someone a ‘joker as they aged’, but who was it?

Mumbai: Kajol’s upcoming movie ‘Helicopter Eela’s trailer was unveiled today among the media. There, a reporter asked Kajol and Pradeep Sarkar if they think age affects performance. On this, Kajol gave her usual weird reaction and Ajay took the mike, saying, “I have seen many people become a joker as they age.” Wow! That statement came as a surprise and made us wonder who Ajay was referring to. Was it his contemporaries? The Khans? Kumars? Kapoors? However, Pradeep then took over and ended the question by saying, “It has nothing to do with age. You just need to feel young in your mind.”

Friendship Day Special: These Bollywood buddies are all we need in life

Mumbai: Sunday is here, and with it, even the day to remember all your friends has come back. Bollywood movies have often shown us such friends, some who we have been totally inspired and struck by. Here are some of those friends we want or already have in our life: Sanju and Kamli - Sanju: Imagine a naive friend like Kamlesh meeting the been there-done that kind of friend Sanjay Dutt. The jodi would obviously be an unusual one, and then there would be lots of fun involved too. Who wouldn’t want such a bestie now? Sid and Akash - Dil Chahta Hai: The law of opposites attract would probably fit best here since an overly matured Siddharth and a childish and irresponsible Akash needed each other to perfect

their incompleteness. Rahul and Anjali - Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: When we say friends, how could

we even miss this one? Rahul Shah Rukh Khan and Anjali Kajol were ultimate friendship goals turned lover goals, because Pyaar Dosti Hai. Arjun and Imraan - Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: Arjun Hrithik Roshan and Imraan Farhan Akhtar taught each other something. Farhan showed Hrithik how life is meant to be lived, and helped him find love again. Hrithik, on the other hand, was just there as Farhan’s support through his tough time. In all, they gave us wanderlust combined with friendship goals. Jai and Veeru - Sholay: The list would’ve been incomplete if these two weren’t mentioned. Jai gave up his life by deceit, to save Veeru. A friend who goes the extra mile, is a friend for the keeps, peeps.

look more convincing in her role. Interestingly, Meher Vij, who played Zaira’s mother in Secret Superstar is just 14 years older than her. So it seems our leading ladies no longer have a problem with being made to look older on screen. A decade ago Aparna Sen had to shelve her film because no major heroine was willing to play mother to a 12-year-old.

Mulk raises questions to introspect: Taapsee

Mumbai: Mulk may not have had a great opening day, but it’s receiving much critical acclaim. Audiences and critics are especially loving Taapsee Pannu’s impactful performance in the film. During a recent interaction with the actress, she said that though Mulk was a patriotic film, much like the ones that release around Independence Day every year, it would also plant some important questions in the minds of Indians. “So many years after having gained independence, where are we standing? Have we moved forward, are we at a standstill, or are we regressing? When it comes to our country, should we or should we not put humanity before our Indian-ness? These are some of the questions that Mulk raises. It gives individuals an opportunity to introspect,” Taapsee said. “Such films not only address issues but also bring about a change for the better. They allow people to openly ask questions about the things that they have been thinking about for ages, about the problems prevalent in India. They also ignite the feelings of oneness and patriotism,” she added. Mulk has faced much heat for being “pro-Muslim”, with online trolls going to the extent of threatening filmmaker Anubhav Sinha. Addressing the subject of trolling, Taapsee said, “These days, every little thing is a cause for trolls to lash out.

Rohan Bopanna misses Rogers Cup to save shoulder for Asian Games 2018

New Delhi : Doubles specialist Rohan Bopanna, recuperating from a shoulder injury, will skip the ATP Rogers Cup beginning in Toronto on Monday, and will reach Palembang on August 14 to get acclimatised to the conditions ahead of the Asian Games. It means that Bopanna will compete at the Asian Games without any competitive match since the Wimbledon Championships. Bopanna and his French partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin had conceded their men’s doubles second round after the Indian suffered the injury on July 6. The Coorgi had also planned to play the Bastad event with Divij Sharan, his

men’s doubles partner at the Asian Games, but his injury did not let him participate.“Rohan has recovered from his shoulder injury but he thought it does not make sense to travel all the way to US for just one week. Those are big tournaments and you need to be match sharp,” India’s men’s squad captain Zeeshan Ali told PTI.“He is losing about 1000 points by not playing these two weeks but he thought it’s a better decision to save his shoulder for the Asian Games. So he is reaching Palembang on August 14 to get used to the conditions, the surface to be ready for the Asian Games.”“He is going there a week earlier to practice.

BWF World Championships Final, PV Sindhu vs Carolina Marin: All you need to know

Hardik Pandya’s kind gesture that impressed a hotel staffer in England

Birmingham: Hardik Pandya failed to contribute when it needed as Team India slumped to 31 run defeat against England in the opening Test in Edgbaston on Saturday. However, a small gesture off the field by the all-rounder is already winning hearts. The incident took place last week at around 9.30 pm when Hardik returned to the team hotel - the Hyatt Regency after having dinner with teammates Ishant

Sharma and KL Rahul. The Baroda cricketer was the last to enter the hotel after leaving the cab and soon made his way to the concierge desk.“This parcel contains food which wasn’t even touched by us when we dined... Please give it to anybody who comes in the hotel’s vicinity asking for food (occasionally happens at night)... It has been packed for that person,” Hardik told the hotel staffer as quoted by The Telegraph.

Nanjing (China): While PV Sindhu will look to erase the painful memories of her previous final’s defeat, Carolina Marin will be out to dash Sindhu’s plans as the Indo-Spaniard rivals square off against each other in the BWF World Championships final here on Sunday.Although the Rio Olympics finalists are yet to win a title this year, the two have found their gumption and peaked at the right time to make it to the final of this edition of the BWF Championships. While Sindhu defeated the likes of Nozomi Okuhara and Akane Yamaguchi to reach the final, Marin overcame Saina Nehwal and He Bingjiao to make it to the title clash. While Sindhu will be targeting to become the first Indian to

win the World Championships, Marin will be keen to clinch her third worlds title. Timing and venue:The match is expected to start around 12.30 PM (IST) on August 5, 2018, Sunday in Nanjing, China. Live streaming: The live streaming of Sindhu vs Marin final will be available on HotStar. Live telecast: The live telecast of the BWF World Championships 2018 final will be available on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 2 HD. Key stats: Head to head: Marin leads Sindhu with 6-5 scoreline. Last BWF World Championships game: Marin defeated Sindhu in 2014 semifinal 21-17, 2115. Last final encounter: Sindhu beat Marin in 2017 India Open final 21-19, 21-16 Head-to-head: Marin leads 6-5.

England vs India, 1st Test: 5 things we learnt from the Edgbaston thriller Birmingham: Ben Stokes starred on the decisive day as England beat India by 31 runs to win a thrilling first Test at Edgbaston, drawing first blood in the five-match series. The all-rounder took three wickets on Saturday, including the prized scalp of India captain and first-innings centurion Virat Kohli. But fellow England all-rounder Sam Curran was named man-of-the-match after starring with both bat and ball. Here are five things we learnt from the first Test:Kohli holds the key:It might be too simple to say “get Virat Kohli out and you get India out” but perhaps not by too much. The India captain made a masterful 149 in

the first innings as he completed a maiden Test century on English soil.In the process he scored more runs in one innings than the 134 he managed in 10 knocks during his first Test tour of England four years ago.For as long as Kohli was batting in India’s second innings, they had hope of reaching a victory target of 194. But when he was out for 51, England were on their way.Kohli scored exactly 200 runs in the match but, concerningly for the tourists, he was the only India batsman to make a fifty in either innings. The skipper was downbeat after the match despite his 22nd Test ton.“It was just like any hundred I score,” he said. “Back in the

Business Banks collect Rs 5,000 cr from customers for breaching minimum balance

SBI led the pack in penalising its customers for not maintaining minimum account balance. New Delhi: As many as 21 public sector banks and three major private sector lenders collected a whopping Rs 5,000 crore from customers for non-maintenance of minimum balance in their accounts in 2017-18, according to banking data. India’s largest lender State Bank of India, which suffered a staggering net loss of Rs 6,547 crore during 2017-18, led the pack in penalising its customers for not maintaining minimum account balance. The governmentowned SBI, which re-introduced the penalty on deposits going below monthly average balance basis from April 2017, collected nearly half the amount raised by the 24 banks put together (Rs 4,989.55 crore). But for the additional income of Rs 2,433.87 crore under this head, SBI’s losses would have soared further. After SBI, the largest amount

of charges for not maintaining minimum balance during 2017-18 was collected by HDFC Bank. It charged its customers Rs 590.84 crore, which is lower than Rs 619.39 crore in 2016-17, the data revealed. Axis Bank collected Rs 530.12 crore in the last fiscal while ICICI Bank charged Rs 317.6 crore. SBI was charging the penalty on failure to maintain monthly average balance requirement till 2012 and again reintroduced it from April 1, 2017. Following the criticism, SBI reduced charges with effect from October 1, 2017. According to the RBI norms, banks are permitted to levy sevice/miscellaneous charges. Customers opening accounts under Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) scheme as well as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna are not required to maintain any minimum balance.

day I used to think about playing in different conditions, different countries, but when you become captain it’s about taking your team across the line.”Stokes factor:Stokes is the kind of cricketer all captains want in their side -someone with the ability to make things happen with bat or ball. With India edging their way towards victory on Saturday, it was no surprise when England captain Joe Root brought the Durham all-rounder on as first change. It was typical of Stokes that he had dangerman Kohli lbw with just his third ball and three balls later had Mohammed Shami caught behind to leave India floundering at 141 for eight.

VALUERS BODIES RAISES FINGER AT COMPANIES (VALUERS & VALUATION) RULES, 2017 Mumbai : The Pan-India Valuers Federation organised Press Conference at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA),Ahmedabadon Sunday August 05, against arbitrary Clauses& Conditions for existing Govt. Approved Valuers in Companies (Registered Valuers & Valuation Rules) 2017 as notified by Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The rules have been notified without considering the objections sent by thousands of stake holders. According to the ‘Federation’, the new rules will lead to corruption & unethical practises as well as give way to incompetent persons to practise the profession of Qualified Technical Degree holders. Er. Kapil Arora, Gen. Secretary, Pan

India Valuers Federation & Ramandeep Singh, Chndigarh Architecture said that Valuation of Land & Building/Plant & Machinery is technical in nature.Only graduate engineers, architects and town planners with minimum 10 years of practical experience are permitted to practise as Govt. Registered Valuers. It is beyond our imagination that how 50 hours training which is being conducted in just 6 days for persons having no technical degree will improve the quality of Valuation profession. There is no authenticity of 50 hours training by Private Mediators i.e. RVOs as the records can be manipulated to give advantage to their own well wishers as per their whims & fences.

Tech Mahindra to roll out 5G pilot projects next month

Hyderabad: Tech Mahindra expects to launch about five pilot projects on 5G services by next month and execute big projects on the new generation network from next financial year onwards, said a top executive of the IT giant. C P Gurnani, CEO and Managing Director of Tech Mahindra also said the company hopes to garner over USD 100 million as revenues from Blockchain Technology during the current fiscal. “My personal belief is that by September we would launch. Tech Mahindra will be launching its complete service offerings along with its partners. We expect within this financial year to do about five 5G trials and hopefully in the financial year, starting April 1 2019, we will be executing some big projects,” he told PTI during his recent visit to the city. A senior official of

TechM had earlier said they had set up an innovation lab powered by Intel architecture to accelerate 5G roll out in India. The Centre constituted a high-level committee last year, comprising secretaries of the Telecom Department, IT and Electronics Ministry and Science and Technology Department, to work out the vision, mission and goals for India’s 5G ambitions and prepare a road map and action plan for the same. Telecom industry body COAI has said auction of spectrum for 5G services should happen only around the second half of 2019 as it would offer telcos better visibility into market dynamics and potential revenue streams of the nextgeneration mobile services. “My (Tech Mahindra’s) appetite is very very large and the opportunity of 5G is very large,” Gurnani said.

Supplying rails to Railways like a dream come true, says Naveen Jindal

New Delhi: Supplying rails to Indian Railways is like a “dream come true”, Naveen Jindal, the Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) which became the first private company to supply rails to the railways, said. How a phone app, database of over 50 mn voters helped Imran Khan win Pak polls

Islamabad: A phone app and a database of more than 50 million voters were key weapons in the successful campaign of cricket legend Imran Khan in last month’s general election, though rivals allege Khan also received clandestine aid from Pakistan’s powerful military. How Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party used the database and the associated app represents a sea change in the antiquated way in which Pakistan’s biggest parties conduct elections, from pre-poll targeting of voters to on-the-day mobilization of supporters. PTI was secretive about the technology plan ahead of the July 25 poll, fearing rivals could copy it, but several party workers showed Reuters how the app transformed their campaign and gave them an edge. The phone app proved especially useful in getting supporters to the polls when the government’s own telephone information service giving out polling place locations suffered major problems on election day, leaving other parties scrambling.
