ENGLISH DAILY MORNING REPUTED NEWS PAPER, AHMEDABAD EDITION Editor : Kapilkumar M. Hirpara

Short News Centre may consider President’s rule in Bengal, says BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya Indore : BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Wednesday the NDA government at the Centre may “have to think of” recommending the imposition of president’s rule in West Bengal if the situation in the state continues to deteriorate. His remark came after two people, whom the BJP claims as its workers, died in Purulia within a week, leading a verbal duel between the ruling TMC and the saffron party. The two were found hanging in the district, where the BJP fared comparatively well in panchayat polls, on May 30 and June 2. “Considering the direction in which the state government is moving and its irresponsible ways (‘amaryadit acharan’), it seems the Centre might have to think of using Article 356 of Constitution,” Vijayvargiya, the BJP in-charge of West Bengal, told reporters at Indore.

Defence MSMEs claim armed forces cancelled orders New Delhi : The Federation of MSME Vendors and Defence and Aerospace on Wednesday alleged that ordnance factories supplying vital defence equipment, including guns, to the armed forces had cancelled orders worth thousands of crores placed with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The move, the federation alleged, would lead to huge losses and largescale entrenchment of workers. Addressing a press conference here, Neeraj Raizada, the federation’s president, also claimed that the government had slashed the budget of the MSMEs from Rs 16,000 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 10,000 crore in 2018-19. The federation hinted that the MSMEs could be replaced by foreign suppliers. The charges come in the backdrop of a parliamentary panel’s findings that the three services were reeling under severe shortage of funds.

President Ram Nath Kovind approves ordinance to treat home buyers as creditors

New Delhi : President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday gave assent to the ordinance making amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), which will recognise home buyers’ status as financial creditors. “The President today (Wednesday) gave assent to promulgate the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018,” an official statement said. The government said the ordinance would give home buyers due representation in the Committee of Creditors and make them an integral part of the decision making process. Being treated as financial creditors would bring home buyers at par with banks and other institutional creditors as they would now have a share in the proceeds earned by sale of assets of bankrupt real estate companies.

BJP chief Amit Shah meets Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai

New Delhi : BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday met Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray at the latter’s residence Matoshree in Mumbai. It is speculated that the meeting is to regain political unity between the bickering allies. Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Devendra Fadnavis accompanied Shah for this meet. The Shah-Thackeray meeting is significant as BJP will try to reconcile with its NDA ally Shiv Sena to present a united front for 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Though the BJP is calling it a meeting for Sampark for Samarthan (contact for support) campaign which is being run by Amit Shah leading to the Lok Sabha polls 2019, Sena is sceptical and questions the ‘need’ for the meeting now, four years after their political alliance. Earlier today, the Shiv Sena – distraught at the secondhand treatment in the hands of the BJP – had heavily criticised Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi and the policies of the Centre using their in-house newspaper Saamana. Sena had, infact, declared that it will contest the 2019 general elections alone.

Govt has eased norms, provided funds to promote startups: PM

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the government is taking several steps to promote young entrepreneurs in the country, adding that startups are no longer confined to big cities. Smaller towns and villages too are emerging as vibrant startup centres, the Prime Minister said while interacting with young entrepreneurs from across the country, including cities like Dehradun, Guwahati and Raipur. He also said that along with Make in India, Design in India too is important for startups. “Adequate capital, courage and connecting with people are required for excelling in the startup sector,” he said. Modi added that there was a time when startups meant only digital and technology innovation but now things are changing and we are seeing startups in various other fields, including agriculture.

Rahul Gandhi in Mandsaur: Will waive farmers’ loans in 10 days if Congress comes to power

Earlier the Shiv Sena -- distraught at the second-hand treatment in the hands of the BJP -- had heavily criticised Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi and the policies of the Centre.

Virtually launching his party’s campaign for the assembly elections this November, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said if the Grand Old Party was voted to power in Madhya Pradesh, it would waive farmers’ loans within 10 days. Addressing the ‘Kisan Samriddhi Sankalp’ rally at Mandsaur, that coincided with the first anniversary of police firing on farmers in the district last year, Gandhi also castigated the state and Central governments for ignoring the farm distress across the country. “I assure you, when the Congress forms government in Madhya Pradesh, farmers’ loans will be written off within 10 days,” Gandhi said at the rally, which also saw state Congress chief Kamal Nath and election in-charge chief Jyotiraditya Scindia in attendance.

The visit has already given rise to a lot of speculation and a host of Congress leaders have urged the former president to review his decision for the sake of secularism.

RSS invite to Pranab Mukherjee BJP’s dirty trick, says daughter; ‘speech will be forgotten, visuals will remain’

Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter rubbishes ‘rumours’ of joining BJP

New Delhi : A day before former president Pranab Mukherjee addresses an RSS event in Nagpur, his daughter and Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee on Wednesday disapproved of his decision, saying he was giving the BJP and the Sangh a handle to plant false stories as his “speech will be forgotten” but “visuals will remain”. Taking to Twitter, she hoped the former president would realise how the BJP’s “dirty tricks department” works and said that with his visit, he was giving the BJP and RSS “full handle to plant false stories”.

Congress leader Sharmishtha Mukherjee, who is the daughter of former president Pranab Mukherjee, on Wednesday dismissed “rumours” about her joining the BJP, saying she would rather leave politics than quit the Congress. Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken also rejected such suggestions saying Mukherjee is a “devoted” Congressperson. Sharmishtha Mukherjee, who is out of the city on a holiday, took to Twitter to swiftly deny the rumours, which appeared amid a row over her father Pranab Mukherjee accepting an invite to address an RSS event in Nagpur on Thursday. She also expressed disapproval of her father’s decision saying he was giving a handle to the RSS and the BJP to plant false stories as “speech will be forgotten, visuals will remain”.

INX media case: Chidambaram questioned by CBI for 4 hours, says FIR contains no allegations against me

Adityanath speaks to Patanjali; food park won’t be stalled, says UP minister Lucknow : A day after Patanjali announced to shift its proposed food park outside Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed officials to expedite the process for setting up of the Rs 6,000-crore food park. The company had said it was pulling out from the project due to non-cooperation from the state government. “The formalities will be completed soon,” PTI quoted UP Infrastructure and Industrial Development Minister Satish Mahana as saying. Earlier, a government spokesman clarified that the project has not been cancelled and Adityanath spoke to Acharya Balkrishna, managing director of the firm promoted by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev in regards to the food park.

All NRI marriages to be registered within 48 hours or passport won’t be issued, says Maneka Gandhi

Rajnath Singh to visit J&K, review suspension of anti-terror operations New Delhi : A day after appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED), former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the INX Media corruption case. The central agency probing the matter has alleged irregularities in the clearance of foreign investment in INX media, a venture promoted by former media baron Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani. Chidambaram after coming

out of the CBI headquarters in New Delhi said the FIR lodged did not contain any allegations against him. The Congress leader in multiple tweets said, “Appeared before CBI. FIR contains no allegations against me. Questions and Answers were based on the files of FIPB. Hence, there was little to add to the record.” Chidambaram has been alleged to be involved in the scam, after agencies probing the matter found irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance of Rs 305 crore given to INX media.

New Delhi : Home Minister Rajnath Singh would visit Jammu and Kashmir for two days starting tomorrow where he would review the ongoing suspension of anti-terror operations and tour a border district, officials said. The home minister might also attend an Iftar to be hosted by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, an official said. During his visit, he would review the prevailing situation in the state, particularly in border areas and the restive Valley, which witnessed several incidents of

violence in the recent past. There would also be a detailed review of the situation since May 16 when the Centre unilaterally announced the suspension of antiterror operations during the month of Ramzan, an official said. The need for such an exercise was to understand the impact of the suspension of operations on the life of citizens and whether to extend it further, the official said. Singh would hold meetings with Governor N N Vohra, the chief minister, top civil, police and paramilitary officials.

New Delhi : All NRI marriages solemnised in India would have to be registered within 48 hours, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi said on Wednesday. As of now, there is no time frame to register marriages in India. However, a Law Commission report has recommended that the time limit to register marriages should be restricted to 30 days after which a penalty of Rs 5 per day could be imposed. “NRI marriages have to be registered

within 48 hours, else the passport and visas would not be issued,” Gandhi said, adding that the WCD Ministry is in the process of issuing orders to the registrars that details of such marriages should be provided to it so that a central database can be maintained. The ministry had earlier constituted an Integrated Nodal Agency (INA) with representatives from the ministries of External Affairs, Home Affairs and Law and Justice to look into matrimonial disputes involving Nonresident Indians (NRI).

Promotion quota godsent for BJP

The Supreme Court go-ahead for promotion in government services, held up due to court orders restraining the application of reservation for SC/ ST, could not have come at a more opportune time for the BJP. The court has not issued any order, but allowed governments to go ahead with promotions ‘as per law’. Although the court did not clarify what exactly these laws were, the observation removes a stumbling block to all promotions. By citing applicable laws, the court may have referred to certain existing guidelines that the state and central governments are supposed to follow in the interest of efficiency. But lack of clarity should not hold up the process any more. Although the final decision is yet to be pronounced, the government can now go ahead with promotions. The change gives the BJP great relief as it has been caught in a bind over the recent Supreme Court decision striking down the provision for compulsory arrest in cases of atrocities against SC-ST people. Although it was a court order, the ruling party has faced much flak from Dalit organisations and others for not doing enough and in time to circumvent the decision. The Opposition parties had also made it a campaigning point in the elections. The entire promotion process of the central and state governments was in limbo because of uncertainty over SC-ST quota in promotions. Reservation in promotion had been in force since 1955, but the policy had to be discontinued after the court struck it down on the ground of it being beyond the mandate of Article 16(4) of the Constitution. This led to the statute being amended to insert a new clause to provide for quotas. But the validity of the amendment was challenged before the Supreme Court, which observed that the concerned state will have to show in each case the existence of compelling reasons for giving promotion, such as backwardness, inadequacy of representation and overall administrative efficiency before providing for reservation. Based on this judgment, several high courts had struck down the provisions for reservation in promotion. It is this bar that now stands removed. The Modi government has been under attack for alienating Dalits, which provided a rallying point for sections constituting the lower rungs of the caste order to organise themselves politically. This had manifested in widespread protests and shows of strength by Dalits and other weaker sections of the society in recent times. The BJP has paid dearly for the Dalit consolidation in the recent elections, particularly in the Hindi heartland, where Dalit parties hold considerable sway. Quota in promotions will be a shot in the arm for BJP, particularly when it is engaged in a desperate outreach programme to court the Dalits.

Koirala bears a striking resemblance to Nargis

New Delhi : A biopic can be a risky territory and its casting can be the biggest challenge. From body language to mannerisms, actors need to get into their parts with conviction to ensure acceptance. And upcoming film Sanju seems to be hitting the bull’s eye. Whatever we saw of Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt in the film’s trailer is unbelievable. But even the film’s supporting actors have put in a lot of hard work to get their individual roles correct. And one such role is of Manisha Koirala who is playing the legendary actor and Sanjay Dutt’s mother Nargis in Sanju. Director Rajkumar Hirani shared a new poster of Sanju which shows Manisha Koirala as Nargis in all her glory. It’s a story we couldn’t wait to share with the audience

as it is a matter of great pride for every Indian. The best feeling for any actor is his or her film being appreciated and the positive word of mouth that ‘Parmanu…’ has garnered is testament to that,” Diana told IANS in an email interview. After much delay caused by a lockdown between John Abraham’s production banner JA Entertainment and

KriArj Entertainment, Parmanu – The Story Of Pokhran opened on May 25. Diana is seen as an Army officer in Abhishek Sharma’s Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran, which is based on the series of nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1998. It also features John and Boman Irani. The Cocktail star was happy to find her own ground in the male-dominated cast.

Directed by debutant filmmaker Abhiraj Minawal, the film also marks the debut of model Warina Hussain.

Salman Khan on Race Stree:ThisRajkummar starrer releases 3 action: We blew up Rao on August 31 pretty much everything we bought

New Delhi : Salman Khan starrer Race 3 is all set to hit the screens on June 15. Just like his last silver screen outing Tiger Zinda Hai, the Sultan of Bollywood has pulled off action sequences with much swag in Race 3 as well. Soon after the release of Race 3’s trailer, it was said that the action sequences of the film are at par with that of Hollywood action movies. Reacting on it, Salman said, “The whole action team that came onboard for Race 3 is brilliant. Tom Struthers, who directed the action scenes of Tiger Zinda Hai and other Hollywood films including Dunkirk, got his whole team and they are number one in their work. Tom and his team were surprised to see that we got to destroy so many cars and we tried all of them on their top speed. The action in Race 3 is not about dinky cars or special effects. We blew up pretty much everything we bought.” Talking in detail about what it takes to bring to the screen over the top action scenes perfectly, Salman added, “You need to be very careful of how much you can pull in. It should look believable and genuine. It can’t look farcical and it can’t make you laugh. Also if your physique does not complement the stunts you are pulling off, people will laugh at you.” Salman, also the producer of the film, mentioned that action movies cost a lot of money.

New Delhi : The horror comedy genre saw a new lease of life after last year’s Golmaal Again. Starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Parineeti Chopra among others, the Rohit Shetty film earned over Rs 200 crore at the box office. Rajkummar Rao took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce the release date of his latest venture, Stree. The film, also starring Shraddha Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi, is a horror comedy that is due for release on August 31. Rao shared a sneak peek from Stree. In the short clip, we see a deserted town where no one is in sight. The camera goes through the bylanes where on various walls there is a message, “O Stree, kal aana” (Stree, come tomorrow). This message is written in red. The voice-over also says “Yahan koi mard nahi” (There is no man here).

been speculation. Now indianexpress. com has learnt from a highly placed source that actor Sohail and filmmaker Arbaaz will be doing a special cameo in Loveratri. While the shooting schedule for Lovertari is in its last leg, Sohail and Arbaaz’s cameo shoot will happen in Mumbai this week. “The scene will be shot at Ellora Studios in Mumbai and the scenes will be between Sohail, Arbaaz and Ayush. Both Sohail and Arbaaz aren’t playing themselves in the film. Loveratri shoot will wrap up in July,” added the source.

The Taapsee starrer is an exaggerated presentation of a believable story and it is the amplification that does not let you connect with the story at any point.

Nitishastra review: Taapsee Pannu’s short film is an exaggerated version of a believable story

New Delhi : Known for her work in films like Pink and Naam Shabana, actor Taapsee Pannu has now made her digital debut with short film Nitishastra. The title of the film can be loosely translated to the ethical code that must be followed, even though it creates dilemmas. The film starts with Roshni

(Taapsee) engaged in handto-hand combat against Ravi (Vicky Arora). As the story progresses, we learn about the sibling relationship between these two characters. In a span of 20 minutes, director Kapil Verma tries to squeeze in the intricacies of their relationship alongside establishing

her profession, his bad habits and also introducing characters who act as a catalyst in taking the story forward. It is quite a task to effectively communicate one’s message in a short film but by using popular tropes, Kapil ticks the communication box off his list.

Sonam on Swara: People just like to troll her because she has an opinion

New Delhi : Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor has clarified that she came out in support of actress Swara Bhaskar for her masturbation scene in the film Veerey Di Wedding and not for her comments on Pakistan. Taking to Twitter, the actor said that defending Swara has nothing to do with her comments on Pakistan. Sonam wrote, “My defence of her has nothing to do with her comments on Pakistan! Get your fact right and stop trying to spread mischief and hate!” Earlier, the Neerja actress had said that Swara was being trolled as she has an opinion of her own. “I think people just like to troll her because she has an opinion and a point of view and I guess that shows how much they love her because the other side of hate is always love, so Swara you have a lot of lovers!,” she said.

Andy Murray out of Wimbledon 2018 tuneup but hopes to play on grass

London : Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray says he is “not quite ready to return” from his hip operation and is pulling out of a grass-court tournament in the Netherlands next week. “I am still aiming to play in the coming weeks,” Murray said in a statement released Tuesday night, “but I want to be 100 percent when I do return.” The former No. 1-ranked player has not competed on tour since losing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals last July. He had surgery on his right hip in Australia in January. Ever since then, he has been targeting a return during the

grass-court circuit, with an eye to being prepared to participate in Wimbledon, where play begins July 2. He said in a video shot at a promotional appearance for a car sponsor that he recently began training again and is still hoping to play on the grass. Murray, who turned 31 last month, called his recovery “very slow,” saying it is taking “a lot longer than I think me or any of my team kind of expected at the beginning.” Murray won championships at the All England Club in 2013, becoming the first British man to win that tournament in 77 years, and again in 2016.

French Open 2018: I don’t know if I’m going to play on grass, says Novak Djokovic

Rohit Sharma recalls the time he wanted to punch Ravindra Jadeja during South Africa tour London : India vicecaptain Rohit Sharma, who is known as the “Hitman” in the cricketing world, recalled the time when he felt like punching teammate Ravindra Jadeja, during the South Africa tour. Speaking to Vikram Sathaye on the online chat show “What the Duck”, Ajinkya Rahane and Sharma talked about the time when Jadeja almost put their lives in danger during a jungle safari in the African nation. Recalling the incident, Rahane said, “I remember many things during Safari and we had lots of fun. But one incident that took place was Cheetah walking. So,

we thought that cheetah walking meant that we would be walking behind 2-3 cheetahs but we were actually in the jungle and we didn’t know what was around us. And, the moment we reached there -me, Radhika (Rahane’s wife), Ritika (Rohit’s wife), Rohit and Jadeja – reached the centre of the jungle, there were two cheetahs who had just caught a prey. And when all of us reached there, they turned around and looked at us.” Further giving details into the incident, Sharma said that the incident was Jadeja’s fault. “It was because of Jadeja. He was making some weird noises and calling them.

Paris : Novak Djokovic said he does not know if will play at Wimbledon after tumbling out of the French Open on Tuesday. The Serb, three-times a Wimbledon champion, appeared distraught after his quarter-final defeat by unseeded Marco Cecchinato in which he was treated for neck pain. Clearly still wound up after a 6-3 7-6(4) 1-6 7-6(11) defeat Djokovic gave one or two word answers to several questions and cast doubt over his participation in the grasscourt season. “I don’t know if I’m going to play on grass,” Djokovic, who won the last of his 12 Grand Slam titles in Paris two years ago, told reporters

crowded into a small interview room after he declined the opportunity to use a much larger one. When pressed on whether that meant he would not play at Wimbledon, the 31-year-old Serb was non-committal. “I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I just came from the court. Sorry, guys, I can’t give you that answer. I cannot give you any answer.” Djokovic, who came to Paris with his lowest seeding since 2006 after a difficult past 12 months in which he has dealt with an elbow injury, had begun to look like his old self at Roland Garros — dropping just one set en route to the last eight.

Women’s Asia Cup T20: India women suffer first-ever defeat to Bangladesh Bangladesh took full advantage of a complacent India as they recorded a comfortable seven-wicket victory in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 competition in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur : Bangladesh took full advantage of a complacent India as they recorded a comfortable seven-wicket victory in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 competition in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. After two facile wins over Thailand and Malaysia, India put up a below-par batting performance, scoring 141 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs, which Bangladesh surpassed in 19.4 overs. India, Sri Lanka

and Pakistan have all got four points from three games but the ‘Women In Blue’ are leading the standings with a net run-rate of +3.428. Fargana Haque (52 no off 46 balls) and Rumana Ahmed (42 no off 34 balls) added 93 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket to guide the Bangladeshi women to one of their bigger victories in international cricket. Rumana was the ‘Player of the Match’ for her all-round effort as she picked

Business Sebi bans Oscar Management, promoters and directors from mkt

New Delhi, Jun 6 () Sebi today banned Oscar Management Services and its seven promoters and directors from the securities market for at least four years and directed them to refund the money collected illegally from the investors. According to an interim order passed by Sebi in September 2016, Oscar Management Services Ltd (OMSL) had issued 4.5 lakh equity shares valued at Rs 45 lakh to a total of 450 persons during the financial year 2007-08. As per the order, since the number of persons to whom the offer of equity shares was made, was above the limit of 49 persons as prescribed under the Companies Act, the offer qualified as a public issue of securities and these had to be compulsorily listed on a recognised stock exchange.

However, the firm did not comply with this provision. Among others, the company had also failed to comply with the requirement of compulsory registration of prospectus with the registrar of companies before making a public offer. For the “prima facie” violations, through its interim ruling Sebi had ordered OMSL to cease from mobilising fresh funds from investors and the firm and its promoters and directors were restrained from the securities market “till further directions”. In its fresh ruling today, Sebi directed OMSL and its promoters and directors to “jointly and severally” refund the money collected through the offer and allotment of equity shares with an annual interest of 15 per cent within a period of 90 days.

up 3 for 21 in 4 overs to engineer a middle-order slump when India batted. It was the batting that let India down with only skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (42 off 37 balls) making a significant contribution. Along with Deepti Sharma (32 off 28 balls), the skipper added 50 runs for the fourth wicket, but it didn’t come at a fair clip. The duo consumed seven overs to score the runs. MSP of sugar at Rs 29/kg inadequate: Industry bodies ISMA, NFCSF

New Delhi, Jun 6 () The minimum selling price of sugar fixed by the centre at Rs 29 per kg is inadequate and does not cover production cost, making it difficult for millers to clear huge cane arrears, say sugar industry bodies ISMA and NFCSF. Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) welcomed the government’s Rs 8,500 crore package for the industry and cane farmers, while National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) said the amount is meagre against a cane arrears of Rs 22,000 crore All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) hailed the government’s decision to create 3 million tonnes buffer stock of sugar, soft loans of about Rs 4,500 crore for boosting ethanol capacity and fixing of minimum selling price of sugar at Rs 29 per kg. “The decision to fix a minimum ex-mill sale price of sugar at Rs 29 per kilo will improve ex-

mill prices from current levels of around Rs 28 per kilo, but may not impact the retail prices in any significant way,” ISMA’s Director General Abinash Verma said in a statement. However, he said the minimum price of Rs 29 per kg was not enough to cover the cost of sugarcane at FRP of Rs 290 per quintal at the current all-India average recovery of 10.8 per cent. Fair and remunerative price (FRP) is the minimum price which mills have to pay cane farmers. “The exmill sugar price which supports the current FRP works out to around Rs 35 per kilo and therefore Rs 29 is inadequate. It will, therefore, be a challenge to expect the sugar industry to clear the huge cane price arrears on this basis,” Verma said. NFCSF President Dilip Walse Patil said the Rs 8,000-crore bailout package for the sugar industry is meagre as compared to Rs 22,000 crore outstanding cane dues of sugarcane farmers.

Siemens deploys world’s largest STATCOM installation for PowerGrid in Odisha

NEW DELHI: Siemens today said it has commissioned the world’s largest power grid stabilisation technology solution for state-run utility Power Grid Corporation of India at Rourkela in Odisha. “Siemens has commissioned 400 kV Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) solutions at Power Grid Corporation’s substation in Rourkela, Odisha. The state-of-the-art STATCOM solution provides optimal grid stabilisation technology,” a Siemens statement said. Siemens manufactured the basic equipment for the technology solution at its plant in Goa and commissioned

the project in 22 months, the firm said in a statement. The STATCOM solution at Rourkela is regulating the transmission

variations automatically according to the grid conditions, thus leading to the availability of reliable and stable power to

the consumers in the associated network. The 400 kV-STATCOM has a swing range of 600MVAr and 250MVAr mechanically switched components. With a fast response time of STATCOM controls, power consumers will be benefitted in the form of constant voltage and frequency leading to the availability of uninterrupted quality power. “We are delighted that the STATCOM at Rourkela substation has been commissioned ahead of schedule. This will lead to improved stability and higher availability of Eastern Region Grid,” said I S Jha, chairman and MD of Power Grid.

quick succession, the last four overs saw India scoring only 22 runs, which enabled Bangladesh to make a match of it. It was legspinner Rumana, who was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, removing Harmanpreet, Deepti and Anuja Patil, who is known to strike a few lusty blows. Chasing, the winners were in trouble at 49 for 3 after 8 overs before Fargana and Rumana calmly completed the task.

RBI rate cut: No major impact on home sales, say experts

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank’s rate hike will not have a major impact on home sales, which has seen a revival in the past few months, say experts. The apex bank for the first time in over four years raised the repo rate, or the short-term lending rate, by 0.25 per cent to 6.25 per cent, on inflation concerns arising from surge in oil prices. Naredco national president Niranjan Hiranandani said the hike is justified on account of inflationary trends, global hardening of interest rates as also petroleum prices moving upwards. “It will not make a major difference to real estate. However, in the long run, we would prefer rates coming down,” he said. Property consultant JLL India chief executive officer and country head Ramesh Nair said the hike may seem to dampen sentiments in the market, but in terms of real estate, may have little or no impact. “As almost all home loans these days are on floating rates, the rise and fall in home loan rates does not impact the performance of residential

real estate sector much and tends to balance each other out over long term,” he reasoned. While the rate hike might result in banks raising their home loan rates, the central bank has given the borrowers something to cheer by increasing the priority sector lending (PSL) slabs, which is likely to make low-ticket sized loans cheaper. Home loans up to Rs 35 lakh in metros (with population of 10 lakh and above) will now qualify for the benefits of priority sector lending, against up to Rs 28 lakh earlier. Similarly, loans up to Rs 25 lakh will now qualify under PSL for other centres, compared with the up to Rs 20 lakh earlier. However, the house cannot cost more than Rs 45 lakh in a metro and Rs 30 lakh in other centres. Pankaj Bajaj, president of the NCR chapter of builder’s body Credai feels 0.25 per cent change in rates is not material to sway the purchase decision of a prospective urban family which is thinking of buying a home.

Man who killed his teenaged lover held from Rajasthan

AHMEDABAD: City police arrested a 20-year-old man, Govind Bhagora, from Bhilal village of Nagaur district in Rajasthan for allegedly killing his 19-yearold live-in partner on May 2, for allegedly cheating on him. An Isanpur police team arrested Bhagora from his paternal aunt’s home in Bhilal late on Monday night. He was brought to the city on Tuesday. “Our team arrested Bhagora from Bhilal just two days after the incident. On May 2, Bhagora allegedly killed his live-in partner, Rupa, after he heard her talking to another man. When Bhagora asked her about the man, she told him he was another boyfriend of hers. On hearing this, Bhagora threatened her to kill. She apparently told him that she would get a boyfriend of hers to kill him. Bhagora then got enraged and strangled Rupa to death. Fearing arrest, he poured kerosene on her, especially her face, and set body ablaze to destroy the evidence,” said N M Patel, inspector of Isanpur police

station. Bhagora and Rupa had moved to the Isanpur area of the city just a week ago from their native village in Banswada district of Rajasthan. Bhagora was a daily wage labourer and Rupa stayed at home in Isanpur. Police registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC, as Bhagora allegedly burned Rupa’s face so that she would not be identified. He intended to flee while the cops were trying to ascertain her identity, said a police official. Isanpur police paraded accused ‘to set an example’ After nabbing Bhagora from Rajasthan, Isanpur police paraded him in a procession through the area. Patel bragged about his vigilante actions, saying, “We took out a procession of Bhagora through the area so an example is set that no one can kill a person, especially a girl, like this. We want people to see this dangerous accused.

UN expected to adopt statement encouraging peace in Ukraine

united states : The U.N. Security Council is expected to adopt a statement Wednesday encouraging all parties in Ukraine to “recommit” to a 2015 peace agreement and expressing “grave concern” at deteriorating security in the volatile east. Russia, which has veto power in the council, has been in a tug-of-war with Ukraine since Moscow’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in early 2014 followed by its support for separatist rebels in the east. But diplomats said all 15 council members agreed late Tuesday on the presidential statement, which would be the first pronouncement by the council on Ukraine since January 2017. The statement, drafted by France and Germany and obtained by The Associated Press, would condemn continued ceasefire violations especially the use of heavy weapons prohibited by the 2015 peace agreement that have been “responsible for tragic deaths, including among civilians.

US warns United Arab Emirates against assault on Yemeni port Hodeidah

Washington : The United States has warned its close ally the United Arab Emirates not to launch an assault on Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah, which United Nations experts fear could precipitate a new humanitarian crisis, US officials said on Tuesday. The warning was issued as Emirati-backed Yemeni forces moved within 6 miles (10 km) of the Red Sea port, a lifeline for humanitarian supplies for the country’s war-wracked populace. The port is controlled by Yemen’s Houthi movement. UN officials have warned that an assault on Hodeidah, which has a population of about 600,000, would cause a humanitarian calamity. A UN contingency plan projects that in the worstcase scenario of a prolonged siege, tens of thousands could die. “In terms of an operation on Hodeidah, we’ve been quite clear that we want to engage on the political track,” a Western official said on condition of anonymity, adding that U.N. envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths “now has the best chance of anyone in quite some time of getting it moving.” “This is a point that we’ve made at the top level,” the official added. “The Saudis and Emiratis have made clear that they would not move without a joint understanding from their friends and partners of what the next steps are – what the day after will be – if there were an assault on Hodeidah.” US officials met at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the crisis, two sources with knowledge of the meeting said.
