Bengaluru: 3 sanitation workers suffocate to death in manhole

New Delhi: Four powerlifting players were killed while two others got injured in a road accident due to fog conditions at Sindhu border in Delhi. The six were immediately shifted to Raja Harishchandar Hospital in Narela, where four were declared brought dead. Other two are said to be in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Tikamchand, Saurabh, Yogesh and Harish Roy, all

four are residents of Timarpur. The injured have been identified as Saksham Yadav and Rohit. Sakhsham had won a world title in Moscow last year. According to preliminary investigation, the speed of the car was very high. Some bottles were also found in the car indicating

Give Air India at least 5 yrs to revive: Parliament panel’s draft report

gns, New Delhi: This is not an appropriate time to divest government stake in Air India, which should be given at least five years to revive and its debt written off, a parliamentary panel has said in its draft report. The panel is also understood to have concluded that the equity infusion in the national carrier, as part of the turnaround plan (TAP), was made on a “piece meal basis”, adversely affecting its financial and operational performance and “forcing” the airline to take loans “at a higher interest rate to meet the shortfall”. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture concluded that the government should review its decision to privatise or disinvest Air India and explore the possibility of “an alternative to disinvestment of our national carrier which is our national pride”. Observing that Air India has always “risen to the occasion” at times of need like calamities, social or political unrest in India or abroad, the Committee said “it would be lopsided to assess and evaluate the functioning of Air India solely from business point of view, as has been done by the NITI Aayog.” In its revised draft report on the airline’s proposed disinvestment, the panel noted that the TAP and financial restructuring plan (FRP) was for a period of 10 years from 2012 to 2022 and Air India has shown “an overall improvement in various parameters and every indication is that it is coming out of the red”. “At the end of TAP period, government may evaluate the

financial and performance status of Air India and take a decision accordingly,” the panel said. The parliamentary committee, after hearing the views of all stakeholders, “strongly feels that it will not be appropriate at this stage to disinvest when Air India has started earning profit from its operations.” It also said that as some of its subsidiaries Air India Air Transport Services Limited, Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited, Alliance Air and Air India Express were making profits, these units should “not be disinvested.” Strongly recommending that the airline’s debt “should be written off by the government”, the revised draft report said, “Air India should be given a chance for at least five years to revive themselves”. The tenure of five years indicates the end of the TAP and FRP period in 2022. It said the airline’s debt was “due to policy directions of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Air India may be permitted to function as a government PSU with less government control.” The Committee also expressed apprehension that Air India’s strategic disinvestment “would result in job loss of many people” and asked the government to “make an assessment” of the job loss before deciding on stake sale. “If the disinvestment of Air India and its subsidiaries is inevitable, the Committee emphatically recommends that the interests of employees should be protected,” the revised draft report said.

the possibility of drunken driving. A probe in the regard is underway. National-level powerlifter Saksham Yadav succumbed on Sunday evening after he sustained grievous head injuries following an accident near the Singhu Border in outer Delhi’s Alipur area. While four other powerlifters died on the spot, another person named Rohit (23) suffered injuries. Yadav, who was admitted in “extremely critical” condition at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, succumbed on Sunday evening. “He died at 6:38 pm of a cardiac arrest,” a doctor said. Yadav had sustained grievous head injuries and severe internal bleeding. DCP (Rohini district) Rajneesh Gupta said the other deceased have been identified as Tikamchand alias

Tinka (27), Saurabh (18), Yogesh (24), Harish Roy (20). Rohit was taken to LNJP Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger. Preliminary investigation revealed that the car was travelling at a high speed when it hit a road divider and crashed into a pole on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway. The victims were celebrating a birthday party and some alcohol bottles were found inside the car, police said. The force of the impact was so high that the car’s roof was completely blown off, police said. “The incident came to light after we received information from passersby regarding the accident near Singhu Border at around 4.14 am on Sunday. We immediately rushed to the spot and found that one.

BJP too guilty: Cong attacks Govt over privilege notice to Rahul

gns, New Delhi: Defending Rahul Gandhi over his tweet against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the Congress on Saturday said if it attracted a privilege notice, then the BJP should be held guilty on many such counts. Hitting back at the ruling party, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks against his predecessor Manmohan Singh and Vice President Hamid Ansari during the recent Gujarat polls. His response came after Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu sent a privilege notice against the Congress president moved by BJP Rajya Sabha member

Bhupinder Yadav to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for further action. “If it comes to privilege, ministers in the government have made many such comments which will attract privilege notices. The prime minister made inappropriate remarks against people who held constitutional posts. Later finance minister said the prime minister did not mean what he said. If political comments and tweets have to become privilege

matters then the ruling party stands exposed and shall invite many breach of privilege notices,” Sharma told reporters. Naidu had sent the privilege notice against Gandhi to Mahajan while holding that “prima facie there is an issue of privilege,” according to sources. Gandhi had tweeted: “Dear Mr Jaitlie - thank you for reminding India that our PM never means what he says or says what he means #BJPLies.”

Govt open to suggestions to cleanse political funding: Arun Jaitley

gns, New Delhi: The electoral bonds mechanism is a substantial improvement in transparency over the present system and the government is open to suggestions to further cleanse political funding, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said today. In a Facebook post, Jaitley said the conventional practice of funding the political system was to take donations as well as undertake expenditures in cash. The sources are anonymous or pseudonymous. The quantum of money was never disclosed and the system ensures unclean money coming from unidentifiable sources. “It is a wholly non-transparent system. Most political groups seem fairly satisfied with the present arrangement and would not mind this status-quo to continue. “The effort, therefore, is to run down any alternative

system which is devised to cleanse up the political funding mechanism,” Jaitley said. The finance minister had last week announced the contours of the electoral bonds, which will be sold by country’s latest lender SBI and will have a tenure of just 15 days. The bonds are being pitched as an alternative to cash donations made to political parties. Jaitley said the choice has now to be “consciously” made between the existing system of substantial cash donations involving unclean money and other transparent options like cheque, online transactions or electoral bonds. “While all three methods involve clean money, the first two are totally transparent and the electoral bonds scheme is a substantial improvement in transparency over the present system of no-transparency,” he said.

Political obituary of a strongman

T he inevitable has happened with Lalu Prasad Yadav. The Ranchi CBI court special judge made it just beyond the Bihar strongman by making it six months more than what would have made it easier for him to be out on bail. The sentencing itself has been marked by exchanges between the judge and the wily politician, which provided comic relief to the surcharged atmosphere in the court. The pronouncement of the verdict was postponed at least a couple of times on fears of Lalu supporters taking things in their hands. Finally, it was delivered through video conferencing, which put paid to the plans for creating a scene. The sensational disclosure by the judge that Lalu’s well-wishers had been calling him overnight to plead for leniency, which the RJD supremo himself did from his Birsa Munda Jail ‘accommodation’, citing old age and frailty, threw enough hints of what was coming. Courts are known to show an aversion to such blatant attempts to influence. Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav, to whom the RJD demigod has bequeathed his legacy, has promised to move the higher courts for relief, but such plans presuppose a lot of imponderables. The family is pinning all hopes on the exoneration of former Congress chief minister Jagannath Mishra, who was a co-accused in the case, as a ground to seek relief. With his second consecutive conviction in the fodder scam, and more on the way, most analysts have already written Lalu’s political obituary. On the previous occasion when he was sentenced in another instance of the same scam, he was fully in control and could rule by proxy from wherever he was, including his abode in the jail. But the situation today is different. Tejashwi is considered a worthy successor by many, but the circumstances of the family make the case very delicate. In fact, the latest conviction may just be a precursor to what is in store. The income tax dept has in its possession bombshells that could shatter all the dreams of an honourable existence. One of the dossiers is believed to contain everything to put Tejashwi, along with two of Lalu’s daughters, on the mat for benami transactions. A property worth Rs40 cr in Delhi’s prestigious New Friends Colony, allegedly acquired through the benami route, has already been attached by the department. And if the charge is proved, it could mean disqualification from contesting elections, apart from imprisonment and other penal actions, against all those involved. Lalu Prasad and his family must thank heaven, earth and the elements that there is no contest to determine the most corrupt political family in the post-Independent India. If there was one, he would have won hands down. For a man who built up a part of his empire on the money that was meant to feed cattle, even that wouldn’t be a dubious distinction.

ACS increases a child’s risk of chronic lung disease and prolonged hospitalisation if not recognised early and treated effectively.

Acute chest syndrome could lead to respiratory failure in children

also provide a comprehensive review of the clinical features of ACS in this patient population, preventive approaches including the use of hydroxurea - a drug that inhibits the synthesis of DNA - what is needed to achieve a prompt diagnosis. Effective therapies, pain control and when to consider the use of bronchodilators are other important topics discussed. Mary Cataletto from Stony Brook University’s school of medicine said, “Management of acute chest syndrome is a major challenge for physicians and other healthcare providers caring for children with sickle cell disease. Not only can episodes recur but damage from repeated episodes can lead to pulmonary infarcts, fibrosis and deterioration in lung function”. “It is not only important to know how to recognize and treat an acute episode but to be able to implement long term management strategies to try and prevent future episodes.”

Washington: A study has recently warned that if Acute Chest Syndrome (ACS), a potentially severe lung complication of sickle cell disease, is not treated effectively in children then it may increase the risk of respiratory failure, chronic lung disease and prolonged hospitalisation. According to researchers, ACS increases a child’s risk of respiratory failure, chronic lung disease and prolonged hospitalisation if not recognised early and treated effectively. Sickle cell disease is a group of disorders that cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down. Researchers Shilpa Jain from Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York, Buffalo and Nitya Bakshi and Lakshmanan Krishnamurti from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta conducted the study. The team examined the multiple factors that can contribute to a child’s increased risk of ACS and proposed mechanisms by which ACS may develop. The researchers

How immune response to Zika virus could harm foetal development

W

ashington:Astudy has recently revealed that the proteins that mount a potent immune response to Zika viral infection can affect the placenta and fetal development. These antiviral proteins, known as type I interferons, are required to fight Zika infection in mothers. But the role of interferons in providing an immune defence for the fetus is still not clear. The team lead Akiko Iwasaki from Yale University studied two different types of mouse models -- one type lacked the receptor for type 1 interferon altogether and the other had only one copy of the interferon receptor gene. The results revealed that the latter group showed signs of abnormal placental development, restricted fetal growth, and death. The finding demonstrates that the damaging effects of the immune response to Zika virus can outweigh the benefits for fetuses, said the researchers, noting that although type 1 interferon is critical to blocking replication of the virus, too much of it can be detrimental during pregnancy. The study results may have implications for other infection-related pregnancy complications and possible interventions. The research is published in Science Immunology journal.

Researchers warn paracetamol could impair fertility of female offsprings

A

lthough paracetamol is considered safe for mothersto-be, a study has recently warned that pregnant women should think twice before popping these pills as it may impair the fertility of their female offsprings. The findings indicated that paracetamol when taken during pregnancy altered the development of the reproductive systems of female offsprings. Paracetamol, or acetaminophen, is an over-the-counter treatment for pain relief that is commonly taken by pregnant women worldwide. Study author Dr. David Kristensen and colleagues from Copenhagen University Hospital conducted three individual rodent studies to evaluate the effect of paracetamol taken during pregnancy on the development of the reproductive system

in female offspring. The results indicated that the rodents, who were given paracetamol during pregnancy at doses equivalent to those that of a pregnant woman may take for pain relief, produced female offspring with fewer eggs. This means that in adulthood, they have fewer eggs available for fertilisation, which may reduce their chances of successful reproduction, particularly as they get older. Dr Kristensen said, “Although this may not be a severe impairment to fertility, it is still of real concern since data from three different labs all independently found that paracetamol may disrupt female reproductive development in this way, which indicates further investigation is needed to establish how this affects human fertility.”

India vs South Africa, 1st Test: Rain washes out day three at Newlands in finely-balanced Test

Sports Special Baroda defeated arch-rivals Mumbai by 13 runs in the West Zone Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 League opener at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Baroda beat Mumbai by 13 runs in zonal opener gns, New Delhi : Rain washed out day three of the first Test between South Africa and India on Sunday, preventing any chance of play in the finely balanced opener to the three-game series between the top two ranked sides in world cricket. South Africa were set to resume their second innings on 65 for two, a lead of 142 on what is a lively wicket offering plenty of assistance to the seamers. Hashim Amla (four) and nightwatchman Kagiso Rabada (two) are the not out batsmen who will now wait until Monday to resume their innings, with no rain forecast for the remainder of the game. South Africa were bowled out for 286 in their first innings, before restricting India to 209 in reply. The home side have confirmed that fast bowler Dale Steyn will miss the remainder of the Test, and possibly the series, with a heel injury.

gns, Baroda : Baroda defeated arch-rivals Mumbai by 13 runs in the West Zone Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 League opener at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday. Baroda, who had got the better of Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy group league earlier in the season, once again proved they were the better of the two sides in the shortened version of the game. Baroda rattled up an imposing score of 210 for 3, powered by half centuries by wicketkeeper and opener Urvil Patel (50 in 29 balls) and captain Deepak Hooda

(66 in 39 balls), who struck eight fours and one six, besides a breezy knock of 44 not out in 26 balls, studded with three sixes and a four, by Krunal Pandya. Barring Dhawal Kulkarni, who returned figures of 1 for 29, the other Mumbai

bowlers were expensive by 20-over standards with medium pacer Shardul Thakur leaking 47 runs in his four overs without a wicket against his name. In reply, Mumbai were stopped at 197 for 8 with Siddesh Lad’s 82 off 51 balls with four

sixes and six fours being its cornerstone. Atit Sheth and Lukman Meriwala, who had troubled the Mumbai batsmen in the Ranji game, were once again among the pick of the Baroda bowlers with excellent returns of 3 for 31, including the scalp of Lad, and 3 for 29 respectively. Baroda also secured four points from the victory. Scores: Baroda 210 for 3 (Kedar Devdar 38, Urvil Patel 50, Deepak Hooda 66, Krunal Pandya 44 not out) beat Mumbai 197 for 8 (Jay Bista 36, Siddhesh Lad 82, Shivam Dube 33; Atit Sheth 3 for 31, Lukman Meriwala 3 for 29).

Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan eyes return to Indian football team for Asian Games

gns, London : Back from England after playing two seasons with West Ham United Ladies Football Club, goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan is hopeful of regaining her spot in the national women’s team for the Asian Games later this year. Aditi is anticipating a better show from the team at the Asian Games to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. “I am coming back from an injury and this year. The Asian Games are taking place in August. So my target is to return to the senior team and represent my country in Indonesia,” Aditi told a select group of media persons in Jammu. Aditi, daughter of Inspector General of CRPF, Jammu, A V Chauhan, is the only Indian woman footballer who played for the top English club for two seasons from 2015. West Ham Ladies are currently in the Football Association’s (FA) Women’s Premier League Southern Division, a league in the third level in the women’s football structure in England. She is here to spend time with her parents and is leaving for Delhi next week to resume her training ahead of the national camp for the Asian Games. “We still have a long way to go but I am confident that the team will do better this time (in the Asian Games) compared to last year.

I tried to change certain things and perceptions around me: Maxwell Liverpool to compensate fans who bought Philippe Coutinho replica shirt London : After both the clubs confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho by Barcelona in the third most expensive transfer ever, Liverpool announced in a generous move that they would compensate those who bought a 2017-18 replica shirt with Coutinho’name and number. Supporters will be given a £50 voucher once the move is completed. The Merseyside club statement said, “In order to avail of this offer, qualifying supporters should present their 2017-18 Coutinho replica shirt at any official club store where the voucher will be issued.

The shirt will not be retained but proof of purchase will be required.” Manchester City acted in a similar fashion in 2015 when striker Sergio Aguero’s squad number got changed from 16 to 10. Barcelona agreed to sign the Brazilian star Coutinho from Liverpool for 160 million euros in the third richest deal of all time after Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. After the move was finalised, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, “It is with great reluctance that we — as a team and club — prepare to say farewell to a good friend.

England : Disappointed after losing his place in the Australian one-day setup, hard-hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has said that he will continue to strive harder and aim to change the perceptions around him. His statement comes in the wake of the selector’s decision to drop him based on his poor run of form. In the last 20 matches, Maxwell failed to have a good outing and averaged a paltry 22. However, he is hoping for a return to the ODI squad before the 2019 World Cup. Reacting to the development, Maxwell in a conversation with cricket.com.au, said, “I was extremely disappointed not to be in that one day side, but I completely understood the reasoning from Trevor Hohns that my last 20 ODIs haven’t been good enough. “That was the phone call I received. You can’t really say too much to that. “I’m sure there’s other stats that probably say that maybe I was a little bit stiff, but there’s stats that say it was my time to be left out. “I can’t do too much about it now,” he added. “I feel like I’ve been in good form this summer and I was hoping that would get me the nod,” he said before adding, “They (selectors) asked me to go away and make runs and I tried to pile them on. “I tried to change certain things and change certain perceptions. I felt like I went a long way to doing that by being the leading run scorer (in the Shield) heading into Christmas.

Infosys: Ex-CFO pats Nandan for correcting previous wrongs gns, Bengaluru: Former Infosys Chief Financial Officer V Balakrishnan on Saturday praised the company’s cofounder Nandan Nilekani for correcting the ‘wrongdoings’ committed by previous board, by fixing a reasonable salary for the incumbent CEO. “I think the board under Nandan has done the right thing to correct the previous wrongdoings.. The salary structure for the current Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh looks reasonable with a large part tied to variable salary with greater focus on long-term retention,” he told PTI here. Balakrishnan said it is important for the board to clearly articulate the performance metrics for the vesting of variable salaries to senior management. “The metrics should have clear focus on increasing shareholders’ value by achieving superior growth.. If the board wants to exercise any discretion it should be explained to the shareholders with proper reasoning,” he said. Infosys has

fixed Parekh’s salary at Rs 6.5 crores with an eligibility for variable pay of Rs 9.75 crores at the end of the 20182019 fiscal year. Elaborating on the ‘wrongdoings’ by the previous board, Balakrishnan said, “unfortunately, it never clearly understood the culture or value systems followed by Infosys under its founders, which resulted in excessive senior management salaries and a huge disconnect with rest of the organisation.”“The former CEO’s (Vishal Sikka) salary was increased substantially without clear reason while the rest of the organisation had to contend with meager salary hikes and reduced variable compensation,” he added. The USD 20 billion target by 2020 was loosely used to justify the pay increase to the CEO that lacked conviction, Balakrishnan alleged. Recalling N R Narayana Murthy’s views, he said excess in capitalism will make the acceptance of capitalism difficult to a large sections of the society.

Rajasthan hacking: Demonstrators detained for protesting over Afrazul’s murder gns, Ahmedabad : Several persons were detained by the police in Ahmedabad on Saturday for protests over the killing of Bengali labourer Afrazul for reportedly marrying a Hindu girl in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan in December. The protesters had gathered at Sardar Bag at Lal Darwaja Saturday evening even after the police denied the permission to hold the

protest. The protesters, many of whom are Jan Andolan leaders, gathered at Lal Darwaja and held the protest meet for over one hour. Advocate Shamshad Pathan, who led the protest, urged the gathering to “raise their voice against the injustice and atrocities on innocent persons”. Pathan added that the government was “silencing” the protesters by denying

them permission in the name of maintaining law and order. Activist Kausar Ali Saiyed, who had visited Rajsamand as part of a delegation, said he lamented that the locals were “brainwashed and terrorised” into supporting the killer. Advocate Khemraj Koshti questioned the government’s silence of such incidents in which Muslims were targeted.

“The NIA has been busy in Hadiya marriage in Kerala, but it has no time to probe Afrazul’s murder,” he said. As the meeting was on, police soon intervened and ordered people to either disperse or court detention. Several protesters who decided to defy the instruction were whisked away to Karanj police station where they were released after two hours.

of Mumbai attack mastermind Saeed. Pakistan banned JuD and FIF and other organisations from collecting donations on Monday, after Trump accused

Islamabad of giving nothing to the US but “lies and deceit” and providing “safe haven” to terrorists. Dastgir had said that action against JuD, Falah-i-

Insaniat Foundation (FIF) and other organisations had been taken so that “terrorists cannot open fire on schoolchildren anymore”. Dogar claimed the

JuD has no nexus with Lashkare-Taiba and the UN resolution against it is “illegal”. He alleged the minister had caused “immense damage” to the

Russian Patriarch Kirill calls on Russians to vote in March election gns, Moscow | The head of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill on Sunday called on Russians to vote in upcoming presidential elections expected to extend President Vladimir Putin’s rule. “I call on all of you, including Orthodox believers, to take part in the upcoming presidential elections. This is very important,” the cleric said in an interview to Russian state television aired to mark Orthodox Christmas. The Patriarch also warned Russians of “the possibility of malicious people or forces to use digital technology to render irreparable damage to our country and society.” Last week, Russian opposition politician and popular blogger Alexei Navalny urged voters to boycott the March vote after election bosses barred him from standing. In the interview, Patriarch Kirill praised Putin’s role in Syria and warned of the dangers of social divisions.

The religious leader said Moscow’s 2015 intervention in the Syria conflict was aimed not only at stabilising the situation on the ground and stopping jihadists from taking power but also at defending Christian minorities. “There was also the important idea of defending the Christian minorities. And thanks to Russia, the genocide of Christians was stopped,” the church leader said. Without Russian involvement in the conflict, he added, the situation in Syria would look like Iraq after the fall and death of Saddam Hussein. The powerful cleric said he had been to Iraq when Saddam was still in power, including Mosul, where he visited Christian monasteries. “I saw the piety of the people and I was glad that Christian churches existed peacefully in a Muslim milieu. Now nothing of that is left.

“reputation” of Saeed and JuD by issuing an “irresponsible” statement. Dastgir had also said that Pakistan did not act against JuD and FIF under “pressure” from the US but after “serious deliberations”. The government has banned companies and individuals from making donations to the JuD, the FIF and other organisations on the UN Security Council’s sanctions list. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) also issued a notification prohibiting the collection of donations by the JuD, the front organisation of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, as well as several other such groups named in a list of outfits banned by the UN Security Council.

Just off Israeli highway, 500,000-year-old site found gns, Jerusalem | Israeli archaeologists announced on Sunday they have uncovered a rare site dating back some half a million years — just next to a modern highway and only several metres underground. Archaeologists envision the site at Jaljulia, northeast of Tel Aviv, as a sort of “paradise” for prehistoric hunter-gatherers, with a stream, vegetation and an abundance of animals. They have uncovered hundreds of flint handaxes as part of the dig just next to Route 6, one of Israel’s busiest highways, the Israel Antiquities Authority said. “It’s hard to believe that between Jaljulia and highway 6, five metres below the surface, an ancient landscape

some half of a million years old has been so amazingly preserved,” Ran Barkai, head of Tel Aviv University’s archaeology department, which participated in the dig, said in a statement. He added that “for people, it was like a paradise, so they came here again and again.” The site is associated with homo erectus, a direct ancestor of today’s humans. The dig began at the site squeezed between Jaljulia and the highway because of construction plans for the area, which required archaeological approval beforehand, the antiquities authority said. According to the authority, prehistoric humans may have returned to the area as part of a seasonal cycle.

gns, Karachi: Pakistan has said it will continue to have engagement with the US “as far as possible” despite the Trump administration suspending over USD 2 billion in military assistance citing Islamabad’s failure to clamp down on terror groups in the country. Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said that Pakistan needs to continue to have a “measured response” to all the rhetoric coming out of the US, the Dawn reported. “As far as possible Pakistan wants to engage with the US because it is not only a global power but also has its presence in the region, and

for us it’s almost our neighbour,” she said delivering a lecture on Pakistan’s Foreign Policy Issues at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi. In reply to a question, the foreign secretary said President Trump’s tweet on January 1 could be well thought out or he was just being his impulsive self, or it could be a result of any other reason such as the fact that the US is not doing well in Afghanistan. She said Trump’s tweet on January 1 came for “many reasons” and Pakistan is trying to analyse why the president’s scathing remarks came.
