Short News Kejriwal government causing conflict on Supreme Court verdict on Delhi power tussle, says BJP New Delhi : The BJP on Sunday accused the Arvind Kejriwal government of adopting “confrontationist” attitude towards the Centre and causing “conflict” in Delhi on the recent Supreme Court verdict. “Kejriwal is creating unnecessary confusion and conflict situation in Delhi, despite clear orders from the Supreme Court,” said Vijender Gupta, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly. In its judgement, the five-judge bench had advised the AAP government to abandon the path of “anarchy” to ensure harmony with various stakeholders including the Lieutenant Governor (LG), he said. “Contrary to the court orders, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has unleashed another round of confrontation regarding transfer and postings of bureaucrats in the national capital,” he alleged.

Amarinder Singh urges Narendra Modi to review GST rates for simplification Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a review of GST rates for simplification and ensure that the tax regime is set right to mitigate difficulties faced by traders. In the demi-official letter, Singh urged Modi for quick redressal of some of the “key irritants” in the GST regime. He said that the GST was a reform in which political parties had come together for the national good. Despite reservations, the states have supported all initiatives for reform and simplification of the archaic tax system, he wrote. “Somehow, the experience of the last one year has been more bitter than sweet,” Singh wrote, according to an official statement issued in Chandigarh Sunday. “Many global experts feel that single rate has far greater advantages and the poor should be compensated through direct benefit transfers so that the rich are not benefitted from these concessions,” he said. After the GST was rolled out on July 1, 2017, Singh had praised the tax regime saying it will benefit debt-ridden states like Punjab but had voiced reservations on its implementation.

J&K: 16-year-old girl among three killed in Valley firing, police to probe Srinagar : THREE PERSONS, including a 16-year-old girl, were killed and two injured when security personnel opened fire on protesters in Kulgam, in South Kashmir, on Saturday, on the eve of militant commander Burhan Wani’s second death anniversary. The deaths triggered fresh protests in several parts of South Kashmir. The three who were killed have been identified as Andleeb (16), a Class VIII student, Irshad Majeed Lone (20), a college student, and Shakir Ahmad Khanday (22), a labourer. The incident occurred around noon, when soldiers opened fire on stone-throwing protesters at Hawoora-Mishipora village of Qaimoh in Kulgam district. “An Army patrol in district Kulgam, while moving through Hawoora-Mishipora area this afternoon, was pelted (at) by the miscreants. Sunanda Pushkar case: Cops tell court Subramanian Swamy’s plea ‘not maintainable’

New Delhi : The Delhi Police Saturday opposed BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea seeking direction from the court to assist the prosecution in the case of death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Delhi Police submitted that Swamy’s application was “not maintainable” either in “facts or law”. The matter came up during the hearing in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court where Tharoor was summoned as an accused in the case Saturday. The application submitted by Delhi Police inspector VKPS Yadav

stated, “It is respectfully submitted that this court is not going to conduct trial as it will be conducted by a sessions court and application is liable to be dismissed.” Police also opposed Swamy’s second application which sought vigilance inquiry report from police. Tharoor’s counsel Vikas Pahwa opposed Swamy’s application on the ground that it did not have any locus in the case and submitted that he wanted to file a written reply. On Saturday, Tharoor was also granted regular bail after furnishing of bail bond and surety of Rs 1 lakh each.

However, because they were found nine days without food on July 2, doctors have been assessing if they are healthy enough to attempt the gruelling dive. •The boys were each being led by two divers as they wind 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) through pitch darkness, trudge through thick mud, clamber over slippery jagged rocks and dive through narrow passageways swirling with cold, strong currents. •”It’s dangerous to the most experienced divers to go through,” said a diver. This is the biggest challenge for the trapped young footballers and their coach.

After feting Jharkhand men convicted of lynching, Union Minister Jayant Sinha talks of due process

Ramgarh : On Saturday, Union minister and Hazaribagh MP Jayant Sinha tweeted that he “unequivocally condemns all acts of violence and rejects any type of vigilantism” and is committed to “honouring the due process of law”. This, after he welcomed, with garlands and sweets, six men out on bail who had earlier been convicted by a fast-track court of lynching a meat trader in Jharkhand. And posed with them for pictures. On July 4, when seven

of the 11 men convicted of the 2017 lynching of Jharkhand meat trader Alimuddin Ansari walked out of jail after the High Court ordered their release on bail, six of them were taken straight to Sinha’s residence in Hazaribagh, where the minister welcomed them. Ironically, the photograph of the minister with the six men has set off a tussle within the party — not over its propriety but over who deserves credit for getting the men bail.

BJP has set example by breaking alliance with PDP over discrimination against Jammu: Jitendra Singh

Jammu : Weeks after the fall of Mehbooba Mufti government, Union minister Jitendra Singh today said BJP has set an example by breaking its alliance with PDP without any pressure as discrimination with Jammu region was not acceptable to the party. He said the decision of the BJP has baffled the opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir

which have never witnessed such a thing in their political history. “BJP is the only party which can become part of any government to carry forward developmental agenda or can break away if it is not satisfied with the pace of development works… It is not acceptable to the BJP to stay in power while compromising with the interests of the

Sushma Swaraj assures all assistance to Sikh man injured in Afghanistan blast New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Sunday said she has spoken with a Sikh man, who was admitted to AIIMS here after being injured in the blast that claimed 19 lives in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad last week, and offered all assistance to him. He is progressing well and should be discharged next week. We have offered him all help and assistance,” Swaraj tweeted.

Swaraj had met the relatives of some of the victims of the terror attack last week. The bomber had targeted a minority communities delegation as it was travelling to the governor’s residence in the eastern city of Jalalabad for a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani. Swaraj also extended assistance to a man whose wife suddenly passed away in Vatican City. The deceased woman’s son requested Swaraj for help on Twitter, saying his mother was travelling as part of a tour group when she felt breathless and vomited. She was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead and her mortal remains were with the hospital.

BJP broke its alliance with PDP last month leading to the collapse of the coalition government and imposition of Governor’s rule. “Whatever the circumstances, there will be no compromise

with the interests of the Jammu region,” he said, adding BJP has set an example by walking out of the government. He said the opposition parties are frustrated because they are not able to understand what had happened that led to the decision. “Their tradition and their politics have not seen such an example in the past. They have not learnt it.”

Addressing a function in Sagar on Saturday, the chief minister, who is helming the state since 2005, also said that the cities in the central state would emerge as the “cleanest, prettiest and developed cities,” in the country in the next five years. Beasts deserve no leniency It was, indeed, clear from day one that the Nirbhaya gang rape and death case was the ‘rarest of rare’ kind. So, it is no surprise that the Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of the four convicts. The apex court rejected appeals filed by the convicts against the Delhi High Court order that confirmed the capital punishment awarded to them by the trial court in 2013. As Chief Justice Dipak Misra, who wrote the main judgement, pointed out, what the convicts’ brutality evoked in public conscience was nothing less than a “tsunami of shock. The court even described the attitude of the offenders as “bestial proclivity and the entire incident sounded “like a story from a different world where humanity is treated with irreverence. The Nirbhaya case was a landmark one and not simply because of the the savagery of the culprits, but also the impact that the ghastly incident created on the applicable law. Within just a week of the attack, a committee was set up to review the entire gamut of criminal law and recommend the required amendments. The committee’s voluminous report formed the basis of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, the provisions of which were already implemented as an Ordinance. It not only paved the way for speedier trials and enhanced punishments, but also led to the expansion of the definition of rape to include more criminal acts. The condemned criminals can now seek a review of the order, but it would be a travesty of justice if they are shown even an iota of human kindness, which they denied to their victim so cruelly. One of their partners allegedly committed suicide while in jail. The wound left on the public conscience by letting off the juvenile, who was the most brutal in attacking Nirbhaya, is still hurting as the man walked off with light punishment. The Juvenile Justice Board had refused to try him as an adult because his age was determined to be a few days short of 18 years on the date of the crime. Although convicted of rape and murder, he was sentenced only to three years in a reform home and has since walked free. How can one be sure that he will not suddenly turn a beast again? It is time our lawmakers and society took a call on the issue of juvenility. The involvement of teenagers in crimes has acquired menacing proportions and a large number of those apprehended are young people. The worst of all, most have been found to show scant respect for human values and morality. With youths exposed to a whole lot of new tools for learning and acquiring knowledge, the age for being considered mature needs to be lowered by a few notches. Society badly needs such a change.

So, Salman Khan and his ladies, and a few men, are currently enthralling audiences at multiple venues and concerts across USA and Canada for the Da-Bangg Tour. With so much spotlight, the actresses especially need to look their fittest in front of thousands and they do it by sweating it out in the gym. But the actresses are not always alone during their workouts and like to have each

other for company as well like Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha recently displayed. In a video shared by the real ‘Da-Bangg’ girl, we see the two performing push-ups and other exercises for their abs together. But it seems Sonakshi is having a hard time matching up to Kat’s fitness levels and is seen ‘screaming’ for help in the video. Moreover, her caption further reiterated the point, actress joking that working out with Katrina is ‘hazardous’ to health, though actually the purpose is the exact opposite.

Roger Federer suggests Wimbledon organisers reconsider all-white playing gear rule

www.sunvillasamachar.com

SPORTS ROUNDUP

India vs England: Deepak Chahar makes India debut in third T20I

london : Roger Federer has won a record eight grand slam titles at Wimbledon wearing complete whites. However, he is yet to have his underwear checked in forensic detail by an over-zealous official who is keen to enforce the tournament’s allwhite clothing policy. Something, Austria’s junior singles player Jurij Rodionov had to endure last year when he was sent off the court after officials twice checked his underwear on the court and determined it was too dark to meet the tournament’s dress code. Wimbledon’s insistence on an all-white playing gear, a rule

going back to the 19th century, is strictly observed with only the tiniest amounts of colour allowed on shirts, shorts and dresses. World No 2 Federer respects that tradition but is desperate for the tournament to not to be too strict around the rule. “It’s good fun that it’s different but it would be nice to add a splash of colour, let’s just be honest for a second here,” said the 36-year-old. “I understand that traditions are the way they are. I know that Phil Brook, the chairman right now, he believes in strict tradition, going back to the ’50s, ’60s. I get it.

New Delhi : Deepak Chahar made his international debut in T20 cricket on Sunday after being included in the playing XI for team India at Bristol. Chahar received his maiden India cap from Virat Kohli and is now the 76th Indian player to feature in the shortest format. He is also the second bowler after Siddarth Kaul to make his debut in this UK tour. Chahar was drafted in place of Kuldeep Yadav and was also handed the new ball in the first over. Chahar had a fine IPL 2018 where he picked up 10 wickets in 12 matches and emerged as the backbone of the seam attack for the yellow brigade. Chahar

last assignment was for India A squad where he scalped 16 wickets including a five-wicket haul against West Indies A. However, Chahar’s road to success has been anything but easy. At the age of 15 (in 2008) he was rejected by Greg Chappell due to his height. However, at 18 he made a mark after taking 8/10 vs Hyderabad on his firstclass debut. He was also an integral part of the Rajasthan squad which won successive Ranji Trophy titles. While a series of injuries hampered his progress, Chahar wasn’t the one to back down and returned as the highest wicket-taker (19) in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year.

Wimbledon 2018: Old-style lawns would have snagged Rafael Nadal, says Rod Laver

london : Australian great Rod Laver was as impressed as anyone while watching Rafael Nadal tear into the fourth round of Wimbledon on Saturday to stay on track for a third title. Yet Laver, who many still feel is the best player ever to have graced the All England Club lawns having won four titles in the 60s either side of being outlawed, says the marauding Spaniard would have feared grasscourt tennis in his day.Wimbledon is no longer a fortress for serve-andvolleyers like Laver or players who came later such as Americans John McEnroe and Pete Sampras, who dominated in the 1980s and 1990s. Changes to the grass, the hardness of the courts and racket technology now mean you can

win the title from the baseline.A look at the wear patterns on the courts this year proves that — with the areas inside the lines still a lush green nearly halfway through the tournament and the zone around the nets virtually unmarked. Of the 91 points Nadal won in his straight sets defeat of young Australian Alex De Minaur on Centre Court only 19 were finished off at the net. Nadal is by no means a bad volleyer but, like most of the top players these days, he does his damage from the baseline. Laver, who sat in the Royal Box as a guest of the club on the 50th anniversary of his return to the championships after the game turned pro, said it like watching a different sport.

India Vs England 3rd T20: India beat England by 7 wickets, clinch series 2-1 Cardiff : India Vs England 3rd T20: India beat England by 7 wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-1 in Bristol on Sunday. Chasing 199, India rode on Rohit Sharma’s ton and Kohli’s 43 to etch the win. India restricted England to 198/9 in 20 overs and India need 199 to win this decider. England started the proceedings in an aggressive manner as Jason Roy and Jos Buttler put on 73 runs in first 6 overs. Roy went on to score a half-century before getting out to debutant Deepak Chahar. India

and England are now scheduled to play three-match ODI series and five Tests. Hardik Pandya smashes a maximum to wrap up the proceedings for India as they clinch the series 2-1. Rohit Sharma played a fantastic inning of 100*. India and England will now play threematch ODI series. Rohit Sharma scores third T20I 100, becomes the second batsman to achieve the feat . IndiGo, GoAir induct 8 A320 Neos after Airbus resumes delivery

Mumbai: Budget carriers IndiGo and GoAir have together inducted eight Airbus A320 Neo planes in their fleet since the resumption of deliveries, which was halted due to the Pratt & Whitney engine issues, according to a source. Both IndiGo and GoAir have taken deliveries of four aircraft each between May and June, the source said. The deliveries of the P&W engine-powered A320 Neos were put on hold in March by Airbus and the engine maker following a safety directive from European aviation safety agency EASA in the wake of instances of the engine’s inflight shut-downs and rejected take-offs. Airbus had resumed deliveries of these planes in May.GoAir and IndiGo both have taken deliveries of four A320 Neos each in the last two month, with the former inducting three aircraft in May and one in

June, while the latter taking delivery of one plane in May and the other three in June, according to the source. Following this, GoAir now has 17 A320 Neo planes in its fleet, while IndiGo has 37. IndiGo and GoAir, operating A320 Neo fleet with P&W engines, have been facing engine issues in these aircraft that even forced grounding of many planes, even as P&W has failed to address the issues despite repeated assurances to the domestic civil aviation authorities. Among the latest incidents, an A320 Neo aircraft of IndiGo experienced engine issues on June 18, forcing the airline to ground the plane at the Delhi Airport after it arrived from Kolkata. Another Airbus A320 Neo plane of the same airline faced a technical glitch in one of the P&W engines on July 6, leading to grounding of the flight at the last moment.

Currently, delinquency rate is around 2 per cent in line with industry, SBI

Card Managing Director Hardayal Prasad told PTI. “Going forwards, we will be launching few innovative products -- minimum 4 products, including co-branded card,” he said. Last year, the card issuer launched four products, including a Doctor’s SBI Card. On acquisition of new customer, Prasad said, the company is issuing Rs 2 lakh new cards each month and trend is likely to continue to the months to come.

PSU banks plan to raise over Rs 50,000 crore equity capital in FY19 Leading the pack is the Central Bank of India, which has already got shareholders’ approval.

New Delhi: Public sector banks are planning to tap the markets to raise more than Rs 50,000 crore this fiscal to shore up their capital base for business growth and meeting regulatory global risk norms. Capital is very much required for these banks as they are saddled with non-performing assets (NPAs) of about Rs 10 lakh crore. According to analysts, their first quarter results may not be very encouraging despite heavy cleaning

of books as the dust has not settled on the NPA front. Out of 21 public sector banks, 13 have already taken the approval of their boards or shareholders for raising capital through the equity market, as per the data compiled by PTI. The combined value of the shares sales of these banks is upwards of Rs 50,000 crore. Leading the pack is the Central Bank of India, which has already got shareholders’ approval for raising

Rs 8,000 crore equity capital through various means, including a follow-on public offer, rights issue or a qualified institutional placement

(QIP), to shore up its capital base. As per the latest annual report of the Central Bank, the bank will allot shares to raise capital through

Foreign portfolio investors pumped in Rs 2,235 crore in the equity markets during July 2-6.

FPIs infuse Rs 3,000 crore in just 5 trading sessions

New Delhi: Foreign investors have pumped in over Rs 3,000 crore in the Indian capital markets in the last five trading sessions after pulling out hefty funds during April-June. The recent infusion comes following a net outflow of more than Rs 61,000 crore in the last three months. Prior to that, they had poured in Rs 2,662 crore in March. According to depositories data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) pumped in Rs 2,235 crore in the equity markets during July 2-6. Besides, they put in Rs 892 crore in the debt market, taking the total to Rs 3,127 crore. “Equity markets are witnessing some value buying after a sharp correction in mid and small cap indices that have corrected by almost 20 per cent in 2018. The recent interest among FPIs is basically bottom fishing in beaten down stocks,” said Rajeev Srivastava, head of retail broking at Reliance Securities. Overall, it

has been a bumpy ride this year as far as FPI flows are concerned and the fluctuations in net flows at times have been massive, thus making the entire proposition unpredictable. So far this year, overseas investors have withdrawn Rs 44,737 crore from the capital markets. This includes Rs 40,541 crore from the debt and remaining Rs 4,196 crore from equities. In January, FPIs invested Rs 22,272 crore in the capital market. However, in February they were net sellers to the tune of Rs 11,674 crore. The following month, they again turned positive and put in Rs 2,662 crore in March. However, they took bearish stance in April and the momentum continued till June. During these three months, overseas investors withdrew over Rs 61,000 crore. “Undoubtedly, this year has been extremely unfavourable from FPI flow perspective. “This could be attributed to multiple factors.

‘Liquor raid’ in Gujarat: Hardik, Alpesh, Jignesh booked for trespassing

Ahmedabad : Two days after Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor, Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani and Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti leader Hardik Patel “raided” a woman’s house in Gandhinagar with their supporters and claimed to have recovered two pouches of country-made liquor, police on Saturday registered an FIR against them for criminal trespass on a complaint lodged by the woman, Kanchan Zala. In the evening, the three leaders sat outside the Gandhinagar SP office for nearly four hours, urging the police to arrest them. They also met SP Virendra Yadav and demanded that they be arrested. Yadav, however, refused to arrest them, saying that the investigations were still on. Hitting out at the government and the police administration for registering an FIR

against them, they said that it was an attempt by the BJP government to “question their credibility”. They also demanded that the history of the woman complainant be made public. “The government should declare the criminal background of woman. Her husband was into bootlegging and there were three cases against him…. Instead of making the state liquor-free, they have booked us,” they said. The SP confirmed that the woman does have a history of cases under liquor prohibition. He said that the woman complainant is also being probed. Kanchan, whose house was “raided” by the three leaders on Thursday, said that she was terrified by the manner her house was “raided”, and alleged that liquor pouches were “planted” in her house.

Land compensation due for three decades, court attaches Gujarat govt’s cars, furniture

Yatriyak provided: In Amarnath, both legs falling apart, the government did not help

Rajkot : A court in Gujarat’s Amreli attached three cars and furniture items of the office of the executive engineer of the state irrigation department in Amreli on Thursday after the state government, despite court orders, did not pay dues to nine farmers whose land was acquired for the Thebi and Vadiya dam projects in that district in the 1990s. A bailiff, accompanied by affected farmers, executed warrants issued by the court of principal senior civil judge Kiran Dohare in nine cases. The attached cars and furniture, including the main table, of the office of the executive engineer (EE) were officially put in custody of the court. Hemant Patel, in-charge executive engineer of the irrigation department in Amreli, told The Indian Express that the court warrants were “erroneous” and that the government would appeal against them. “We are pleased that the court has finally used its long arm against the government. Rajkot: ‘Two days before the Amarnath climax, both of my legs were broken, when I was returning to Rajkot, I asked for some help, including government relief, but did not get any help from anywhere. I was alone in Rajkot on the broken track, I took treatment at the hospital here. If an Armaean father has such a situation, then what will the common pilgrims see, the government is ready to help the mechanisms. There is no truth in the story ‘. These words are Kalavad Rahatna Mansukhbhai J e t h w a a n a . had not paid compensation due to my client despite a court order and repeated warnings of such action. We hope this attachment of assets will open the eyes of the government and it will comply with the order to pay higher compensation to farmers with interest,” Jitendra Senjaliya, advocate for the heirs of late farmer Jeram Kathiriya, told news agancy. According to Senjaliya, the irrigation department had acquired around 4.74 bigha (75.35 gunthas) land from Kathiriya for the Thebi dam project. However, the department paid him compensation for around 2.5 bigha (35.35 gunthas).“The court ordered the government to pay compensation to the farmer. But the government did not comply. The farmer moved the Amreli court again in 2011. Since then, the court issued repeated directives to clear dues, but the government was unmoved. The latest warrant for recovery of more than Rs 10 lakh due to Kathiriya was issued three months ago,” the advocate said.

both the legs where the bad weather climbed. There he talked about government help, but someone accused him of not helping him. Injured Manusukhbhai, during the hospital treatment, alleged that despite being the father of an Army, no one got any help. I had inquired about where to get help from the government camps. I did not find any answer that nobody did anything to help. As with the help of some good pilgrims, I reached the railway station like a broken foot and grabbed Rajkot’s car. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Nothing was felt that the government helped the pilgrims. The government expressed its displeasure with allegations that this should be taken seriously.

Ireland says United Kingdom Brexit plan a significant move in talks

Dublin : Britain’s new Brexit plan represents a significant move towards a much less disorderly departure from the European Union, though it will not be accepted in full by the 27 other member states, Ireland’s foreign minister said on Sunday. British Prime Minister Theresa May secured cabinet agreement on Friday for her plans to leave the EU, overcoming rifts among her ministers to win support for “a business-friendly” proposal aimed at spurring stalled Brexit talks. “I think for the first time we’re seeing very direct language which points to a much softer Brexit than I think some people have been commenting on and that has to be welcomed,” Simon Coveney told national broadcaster RTE. “I don’t think they (the EU) will accept it in full but I hope it can be the basis for a serious negotiation now.

US warships pass through Taiwan Strait amid heightened tensions with Beijing

washington : Two US warships passed through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday on a voyage that will likely be viewed in the self-ruled island as a sign of support by President Donald Trump amid heightened tension with China. “Two US Navy ships conducted a routine transit through the international waters of the Taiwan Strait on July 7-8 (local time),” Captain Charlie Brown, a spokesman for US Pacific Fleet, told Reuters in a statement. “US Navy Ships transit between the South China Sea and East China Sea via the Taiwan Strait and have done so for many years,” Brown said. US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the destroyers Mustin and Benfold carried out the passage. Earlier on Saturday, Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said the ships were moving in a northeastern direction, adding that the situation was in accordance with regulations. Washington has no formal ties with Taiwan but is bound by law to help it defend itself and is the island’s main source of arms. China regularly says Taiwan is the most sensitive issue in its ties with the United States. The passage through the Taiwan Strait, the first such one by a US Navy ship in about a year, follows a series of Chinese military drills around the island that have stoked tensions between Taipei and Beijing.
