Short News Telangana: BJP draws up candidate list, short of known faces in some districts Hyderabad : The BJP has said it will put up a tough fight in the Telangana Assembly elections, but it may not be easy to find suitable candidates for all the constituencies. An election management committee comprising P K Krishnadas, B L Santosh and others is camping in the state to screen candidates. While in some constituencies the BJP has been able to identify candidates, in others there are no known faces, sources said. “All the known leaders of the BJP in Telangana are from Hyderabad. In the districts, there are no known names or faces one can identify with the party. The BJP may have to depend on local leaders from other parties,” a BJP leader said. In 2014 elections, all five Assembly seats the BJP won were in Hyderabad — that too within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.

Modi praised the community for being honest, disciplined and law-abiding, and not resorting to deceit while augmenting trade, its main occupation.

Dawoodi Bohras a patriotic community, SC modifies its order on dowry harassment expanding trade through honesty: PM

cases, restores power of arrest to police

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday restored the power of the police to arrest the husband and his family members on a complaint of dowry harassment under IPC Section 498A but retained the power of courts to grant anticipatory or regular bail to accused. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud gave this direction while modifying the directions issued in July 2017 by a two-judge bench in the case filed by Rajesh Sharma. The bench, while setting aside this part of the direction, however, called for sensitising the investigating officer so that indiscriminate arrests are not made without application of mind. Giving a series of guidelines, the apex court in July ordered setting up of family welfare committee in each district. Any dowry-related complaint should be referred to this committee, which will call the parties in person, make enquiries and submit a report to the magistrate concerned and till then no arrests of husband or in-laws should be made. Seeking to revisit the order, Social Action Forum for Manav

Adikar and Nyayadhar, a ladies organisation strongly opposed these directions and sought modification. It was pointed out that a married woman whenever goes to the police station to make a complaint against her husband and other close relations takes a risk to fight with society at large but being left with no other remedy against cruelty and harassment ultimately choose this last resort. The directions went against the provisions of CrPC, which mandates arrest on registration of FIR. The chief justice, who wrote the order, said when a sensitive legal provision is brought into the statute book, the victims of the crime feel adequately safe, and if the said provision pertains to matrimonial sphere.

SC issues slew of directions to Centre, states for rehabilitation of leprosy patients

The Supreme Court Friday directed the Centre to consider framing separate rules for granting disability certificates to leprosy patients for availing reservation and various welfare benefits. A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud issued a slew of directions to the Centre and all states for the eradication of leprosy and rehabilitation of those suffering from it. “Medical staff in private and government hospitals be sensitised to ensure that leprosy patients do not face discrimination,” the bench said. The apex court further said that awareness campaign should be launched so that leprosy patients are not isolated and allowed to lead a normal married life.

The Supreme Court held that Nambi Narayanan was “arrested unnecessarily, harassed and subjected to mental cruelty” in the case and ordered a probe into the role of Kerala Police officers in it.

Espionage case: Happy with Supreme Court verdict, says former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan

Thiruvananthapuram : Former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan Friday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict in the 1994 espionage case but stressed there should be a timeframe for the completion of the probe by the court-appointed panel. The top court held that Narayanan was “arrested unnecessarily, harassed and subjected to mental cruelty” in the case and ordered a probe into the role of Kerala Police officers in it. Reacting to the apex court verdict, the 76-year-old Narayanan said he felt “better now than earlier”. However, he added that there should be a time-frame for the completion of the probe by the panel appointed by the court. On the compensation of Rs 50 lakh awarded to him, he said officials responsible for his arrest should be made to pay compensation amount and also the fine. Former DGP Sibi Mathew, who headed the

Special Investigation Team that probed the case and arrested Narayanan, refused to comment on the SC verdict. Narayanan, who was arrested in the case, had to spend close to two months in jail and later it was found by the CBI that the espionage case was a false one. The espionage case, which hit the headlines in 1994, pertained to allegations of transfer of certain confidential documents on India’s space programme to foreign countries by two scientists and four others, including two Maldivian women. The case was first investigated by the state police and later handed over to the CBI, which found no espionage as was alleged to have taken place The scam also had its political fallout with a section in the Congress targeting the then chief minister late K Karunakaran over the issue, that eventually led to his resignation.

Bhopal : Calling the Dawoodi Bohra community patriotic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said they have always been committed to shanti (peace), sadbhaav (goodwill) and satyagrah (insistence on truth). Speaking at Ashara Mubarak, commemoration of martyrdom of Imam Husain (SA), being organised in Indore, Modi said the community’s spiritual head, Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, preaches love and dedication for matrubhumi

(motherland). Modi said, “…Shanti, sadbhaav, satyragah aur rashtrbhakti ke prati Bohra samaj ki bhumika hamesha hamesha mahatavapurna rahee hai. Apne desh-se, apni matrubhumi ke prati prem aur samarpran ki seekh khud Sydenasaab apne pravachano

ke madhyam se dete rahe hai (The Bohra community’s role has always been important for peace, goodwill, truth and love for the country. Syedna always spoke about love for the nation, of love and sacrifice for the motherland in his teachings).”

Govt scared of Supreme Court, released me to ‘save themselves’: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar New Delhi : Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar was released from prison in the early hours of Friday after the Uttar Pradesh government revoked the National Security (NSA) against him and ordered for his early release in the Saharanpur violence case in 2017. The Bhim Army chief, released from the Saharanpur jail around 2.30 am, was quoted by ANI as saying that the government was ” scared” and to save themselves they ordered his early release. The Dalit leader, however, said

the government will “frame some charges against me within 10 days.” The state government on Thursday revoked the NSA charges against Chandrashekhar alias Ravan and ordered his early release after considering a representation submitted by his mother. He was jailed 15 months ago. Addressing the media, Chandrashekhar said, “Government was so scared that they are going to be rebuked by Supreme Court, that they ordered an early release to save themselves.

‘Inconceivable’ that CBI changed Mallya’s ‘detain’ notice without PM Modi’s approval: Rahul

New Delhi : Continuing his attack on the government over the Vijay Mallya case, Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday alleged the role of CBI in abetting the fugitive tycoon in escaping from the country and said it was “inconceivable” that this was done without Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval. Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Gandhi said, “Mallya’s Great Escape was aided by the CBI quietly changing the ‘Detain’ notice for him, to ‘Inform’. The CBI reports directly to the PM. It is inconceivable that the CBI, in such a high profile, controversial case, would change a lookout notice without the approval of the PM.” The government

and the Opposition have been trading charges ever since Vijay Mallya claimed Wednesday that he met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley before he left India for London. Jaitley was quick with his rebuttal, describing Mallya’s

claim as “factually false” and saying that the businessman had only briefly caught up with him in Parliament. Mallya himself downplayed his claim later to say there was “no formal meeting”. However.

19-year-old allegedly abducted and gangraped in Haryana, CM Khattar promises action

New Delhi : Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Friday said those found guilty of kidnapping and gangraping a 19-yearold girl in Rewari district of Haryana would be punished in accordance with the law. An FIR was filed against three boys on Thursday morning after the victim complained she was kidnapped, drugged and raped after she fell unconscious in her village. The boys, she said in her complaint, were from her village. Additional Director General of Police, Operations, A S Chawla said efforts are underway to arrest the three accused. He added the victim has undergone medical tests. “Three accused have been named in the FIR. We are after the three to arrest them. Medical test of the victim has been done,” Chawla was quoted as

saying by news agency ANI. Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, meanwhile, called for the resignation of the CM, saying law and order in the state had “totally failed”, reported ANI. The victim’s mother claimed they were made to run around before a complaint was registered in the case. “Police has failed to take any action. We were made to run from pillar to post before our complaint was taken. The FIR was registered at 1 am as police kept citing jurisdiction issues,” she was quoted as saying by PTI. “The government talks about Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, but is this the price one has to pay for getting our daughters educated? The accused are roaming freely but police has failed to nab them.”

Not scared, Chandrababu Naidu will go to Maharashtra

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said he would not be scared by court notices as he had not indulged in any criminal activity but had only fought for the genuine cause of Uttara Telangana, which would have been affected by the Babli dam. He was speaking at Srisailam a day after a court in Dharmabad, Maharashtra, had issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with an agitation eight years ago against the construction of the Babli barrage across the Godavari river.

The long shadow of the 2008 financial crisis

This coming weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, which pushed the global financial system to the brink of a breakdown. The fall of Lehman was a consequence of excesses built in the financial system over the years; if not Lehman, it would perhaps have been some other firm. After all, another large investment bank, Bear Stearns, had to be bailed out earlier in 2008. Ten years after the financial crisis, the biggest question is: Have those excesses been addressed well enough to guard against another crisis? As Ben Bernanke, then chairman of the Federal Reserve, said in 2010, the financial crisis “was an extraordinarily complex event with multiple causes”. That said, the basic causality has been firmly established since: from interest rates that were kept too low for too long in the aftermath of the dot-com crash, pushing asset prices, rising housing prices that encouraged people to borrow with very little equity, to lenders stumbling into the trap of lending even to people who had no capacity to repay. In fact, interest rates had been trending down at least since the early 1990s. And, of course, when interest rates went up, defaults rose and the contagion spread via the subprime mortgages that investment bankers had sliced and diced into complex securities and sold across the world. The Fed didn’t see it coming— it was focused on the general price level and not asset price inflation. But it did act quickly once the crisis struck. It helped that Bernanke, a scholar of the Great Depression, was leading it. The US central bank reduced interest rates and flooded the system with liquidity. It effectively became the global lender of last resort. Ten years after the crisis, the US economy is growing at a strong pace and the Fed is in the process of reversing the crisis-era policies in a calibrated manner. But beneath the headline growth numbers and higher stock prices, there are several risks. For instance, rising asset prices are seen to have benefited only the rich and increased inequality. Arguably, this is one of the reasons for the rise of populism, which is practically threatening the very foundation of the post-war global economic system. Also, as Raghuram Rajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India and someone who famously foresaw the 2008 crisis, recently noted, leverage and asset prices have built up again. Years of policy accommodation in the US and other parts of the developed world have increased debt. As the International Monetary Fund showed in its April edition of “Fiscal Monitor”, global debt in 2016 reached a new high of 225% of gross domestic product.

Dale Steyn back in South Africa’s ODI squad after two years

Johannesburg : Dale Steyn is back in South Africa’s limitedovers squad and in line to play his first one-day international in two years in the home series against Zimbabwe starting this month. Shoulder and ankle injuries have kept the 35-yearold fast bowler out of action for long spells in recent years. Steyn missed more than a year of test cricket from late 2016 to early 2018 because of his shoulder problems. He injured his ankle on his return to tests at the start of the year. Steyn did play in the two-test series in Sri Lanka in July but his last ODI was against Australia in October 2016. India’s campaign ends as Kidmabi Srikanth bows out in quarters Japan Open: Fatigue seemed to have caught up with the seventh-seeded Kidambi Srikanth as he squandered a game’s lead to lose 21-19 16-21 18-21 against Korea’s Lee Dong Keun.

Tokyo : Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the men’s singles event after losing a marathon threegame quarterfinal to draw curtains on India’s campaign at the USD 700,000 Japan Open badminton tournament in Tokyo Friday. Just like his compatriots, fatigue seemed to have caught up with the seventhseeded Srikanth as he squandered a game’s lead to lose 21-19 16-21 1821 against Korea’s Lee Dong Keun in a duel that lasted an hour and 19 minutes. Former world no.1 Srikanth, who won a silver at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, had earlier

avenged his Asian Games loss to Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent with a clinical straight game win in the previous round. With Srikanth’s exit, the Indian shuttlers’ campaign at the Japan Open came to a halt as Olympic medallist and Asian Games silver-medallist PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy crashed out in the previous rounds of the women’s and men’s singles event respectively on Thursday. In the men’s doubles too, the Indians failed to progress with the pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy failing to go past the pre-quarterfinal stage Thursday.

Petrol and diesel rates on rising spree, Gold down Rs 200 on low demand scale to new highs

New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices on Friday scaled new highs as rates were increased on account of rupee depreciation and rise in international oil rates. While petrol price was increased by 28 paise a litre, diesel rates went up by 22 paise, according to a price notification of state-owned oil marketing companies. Petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 81.28 per litre and diesel is priced at Rs 73.30 a litre. In Mumbai, petrol is retailed at 88.67 per litre, for Rs 84.49 in Chennai and Rs 83.14 in Kolkata. state capitals because of lower taxes. Petrol price has since risen by Rs 4.20 per litre and diesel by Rs 4.53 - the most in any one-month period since

the daily revision in fuel prices was introduced in June last year. Rates vary from city to city and from pump to pump depending on local taxes and transportation cost. DoT to set up panel to examine 5G applications: Telecom Secretary

New Delhi: The Department of Telecom is in the process of setting up a panel which will decide on areas where 5G technology can be used, a top official said on Friday. The department has received proposals for using 5G technology in telemedicine and remote surgeries, drones for security surveillance and monitoring of air and water pollution, among others, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan told PTI in an interview. “Companies have

Asia Cup 2018 a great opportunity to try for perfect combination before World Cup

come up with preliminary use cases. We are going to set up core group which will sit with them and look at what are the use cases that make sense to us,” she said. DoT approached Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Cisco and NEC for development of 5G applications and running trials on the suggestion of Stanford University Professor Emeritus Arogyaswami J Paulraj -- a member of the 5G panel that recently suggested spectrum roadmap for the technology,

she said. “We wrote to Ericsson, Nokia, Cisco, Samsung and NEC. Huawei has met me and they have said that they are interested. We said if you are interested then send us a proposal. We will see what their proposal is and we may go with them also,” Sundararajan said. She said Samsung, Nokia and Ericsson are in fairly advanced stages of developing applications for 5G technology. “Use cases that companies have looked at for applications include

drones for surveillance, mining, monitoring water and environmental pollution... as well as telemedicine and remote surgeries,” Sundararajan said. King’s College under the Cambridge University has also approached DoT through state-run telecom technology development centre C-DoT. Sundararajan also said all telecom operators are working on 5G but BSNL and Reliance Jio are at more advanced stage of development.

New Delhi: Gold fell by Rs 200 to Rs 31,400 per 10 gram at the bullion market on Friday owing to weak demand from jewellers and retailers even as the metal strengthened overseas. Silver followed suit and fell by Rs 250 to Rs 37,650 per kg due to reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers. Marketmen said muted demand from local jewellers and retailers at the domestic spot markets mainly kept pressure on the precious metal, but a firm trend overseas capped the fall. Globally, gold rose 0.61 per cent to USD 1,208.20 an ounce and silver 0.78 per cent to USD 14.25 an ounce in Singapore as softer-than-expected

US consumer prices data dimmed the case for a faster pace of policy tightening by the Federal Reserve. In the national capital, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity drifted lower by Rs 200 each to Rs 31,400 and Rs 31,250 per 10 gram, respectively. The precious metal had shed Rs 25 on Thursday. Sovereign, however, remained flat at Rs 24,500 per piece of eight gram. Tracking gold, silver ready dropped by Rs 250 to Rs 37,650 per kg and weeklybased delivery by Rs 75 to Rs 37,210 per kg. Silver coins, however, continued to be traded at previous level of Rs 72,000 for buying and Rs 73,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

India needs to be vigilant to check rupee fall: PM economic panel member New Delhi: India needs to be extremely vigilant to check weakness in the rupee

and the task was to minimise volatility and avoid contagion to other macro policies, a member of the prime minister’s economic

advisory panel said on Friday. “The present challenge can be effectively dealt with,” said Rathin Roy, in a blog, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting on Saturday to consider steps to address weak rupee and rising fuel prices. Despite strong economic growth, the rupee has weakened more than 11 percent to become Asia’s worst performing currency this year, hit by higher oil prices and an emerging markets sell-off, widening India’s current account deficit and tipping its balance of payments into the red.

October. Patel, out on bail in the case, moved the high court in April 2018 after the lower court rejected his discharge application. The Crime Branch of Ahmedabad Police registered a case of sedition against Patel and his associates for allegedly instigating violence “with the intention of dislodging the government” during the Patidar quota agitation in August 2015. At least 13 persons had died across Gujarat during the agitation led by Patel for reservation for the community in jobs and education. Dismissing his discharge plea, the sessions court had accepted the prosecution’s argument that there was evidence against him in the form of speeches, conversations and forensic records.

The hunger games: Hardik Patel and the politics of fast in India

Ahmedabad: When Patidar leader Hardik Patel called off his indefinite fast in Ahmedabad on September 12 after stretching it to 19 days — and losing several kilos in the process — none of his demands had been met. Whether it was the demand for farm loan waivers, quotas for Patidars, or release of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti convener — the BJP government in Gujarat remained unmoved. While agreeing it was not a victory for him, Patel refused to acknowledge that the government of the day had won either. “The fight for rights of farmers and downtrodden will continue,” he said. “I will be able to fight only if I am alive.” A comparison may be out of place here, but a century before Patel’s fast another Gujarati undertook a fast in Ahmedabad. It was Mahatma Gandhi’s first fast in India. The 1918 fast, held in solidarity with striking mill workers, was a modest three-day affair.

New mantra for teaching Gujarat: Monsoon deficient, but Gujarati to non-Gujarati 44 per cent kharif crop sown is kids: Don’t be finicky about water-intensive paddy and cotton Dr K P Patel, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Anand grammar, spellings Ahmedabad : To make non-Gujarati students speak and write Gujarati, the state Education Department has launched Gujarati language textbooks in Class I and II, making the language a mandatory subject in all government schools. The textbooks will be introduced in all state schools, except the Gujarat board schools, after Diwali. As reported by The Indian Express earlier, the language experts at Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) have tried not to impose the language upon non-Gujarati students. The experts then came up with guidelines for teachers who will teach the language to non-Gujarati students, said a language expert who is a member of the curriculum framework team. In the

guidelines, teachers have been directed not to give stress on grammar and spellings for the next two to three years. This is to make the subject interesting to a non-Gujarati student and not make them avoid the language, said a member.“In the initial two years, we will allow students to use their first language while speaking in Gujarati. Students will be made to recognise Gujarati letters as pictures. Teachers have been asked to make students hear and speak Gujarati in audiovisual medium,” says GCERT director T S Joshi. The teachers have also been asked not to hesitate in taking help of Gujarati children studying in the class. “Make them your partners and make them lead a group,” the textbook instructs.

international Abe says will talk more on peace treaty, islands with Putin

Tokyo : Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday he will meet again this year for more talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Putin’s proposal for the two countries to sign a peace treaty and discuss the status of disputed islands. Japan, however, wants to resolve the territorial dispute before signing a peace treaty, Abe said during a policy debate in his party, repeating the country’s longstanding position. Abe returned from Russia on Thursday after meeting with Putin and attending an economic conference. He said that the two leaders are likely to discuss a treaty when they meet again later this year. Putin said Wednesday the countries should sign a peace treaty before the end of the year and later discuss the islands. “We need to read signals from President Putin’s words,” Abe said. “There is no doubt that (Putin) expressed his willingness about the need to sign a peace treaty.” Abe has been pushing for a way forward in the dispute, with the two leaders holding talks more often than ever before.

Amid deep budget cuts, $52,701 spent on curtains for Nikki Haley’s official residence: Report

Agricultural University said that with both the crops — cotton and paddy — being financially rewarding, the farmers opted for the two crops despite the advisory against it.

Ahmedabad : Despite a government advisory issued in July, restricting sowing of water-intensive crops this year on account of deficient rainfall, farmers in Gujarat have sown over 35 lakh hectares of crops like paddy and cotton. The two crops that require a huge amount of water alone amount to 44 per cent of the total 79 lakh hectares of kharif crops sown across the state during a rain-deficient year. Notably, 15.21 lakh hectares (or 43 per cent) of cotton and paddy fall in the 14 districts that have received less than 60 per cent of its long-period average (LPA) rainfall

this monsoon, as on September 4, 2018. “We can only issue advisories and tell farmers about the quota of water they will receive every year. We cannot impose or force farmers to change the cropping pattern. Most of them sow with maximum profitability in mind. If they can manage water from other sources then they might opt for other crops,” said a senior official of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL), an autonomous body of the Gujarat government that manages the Sardar Sarovar project and the distribution of Narmada water in the state.

New York : The US State Department spent about $52,701 last year on customised and mechanised curtains for the official residence of US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley at a time when the department was undergoing deep budget cuts and had frozen hiring, according to a media report. The report in The New York Times said Haley is the first US ambassador to live in the residence, located in a new building just blocks away from the UN headquarters here. A spokesman for Haley said plans to buy the curtains were made in 2016, during the Obama administration and that Haley had no say in the purchase. The curtains themselves cost $29,900, while the motors and hardware needed to open and close them automatically cost $22,801, the report said, citing contracts. Installation took place from March to August last year, during Haley’s tenure as ambassador. Haley, 46, is the highest ranking Indian-American in the Donald Trump administration.

Trump leans on shaky numbers to shape reality

Ahmedabad : A Sharjah-based oil production company, Gulf Petrochem group has committed to invest close to Rs 3,600 crore for setting up a bitumen refinery in Gujarat, state government official said Friday. Officials from the company based in United Arab Emirates (UAE) met state government officials in this regard at Gandhinagar. Principal Secretary, Industries and Mines Department, MK Das and Mukesh Kumar, vice-chairman and CEO of Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) were present in the meeting on Friday. “The company has submitted an expression of interest for setting up a bitumen refinery in Gujarat. It will be set up with an investment of USD 500

million,” a senior state government official from the Chief Minister’s Office told news agancy.“The refinery is expected to take shape near a port in Saurashtra. The location has been finalised and an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) will be signed between the company and the state government within two weeks,” the official added without revealing the exact location of the proposed refinery. In order to meet the increasing demand for bitumen speciality products in West and North India, the company has already constructed a high capacity storage terminal of various petroleum products including Bitumen at Pipavav port in Gujarat.

Ahmedabad : Hindalco Industries Ltd, an Aditya Birla Group company, will be investing an estimated Rs 3,500 crore to set up the country’s biggest aluminium extrusion and recycling plant in Gujarat. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between the company and Gujarat government on Friday. Gujarat Chief Minister. Hindalco plans to invest Rs 2,000 crore in two phases for the extrusion plant, having an annual production capacity of 1.5 lakh tonnes, stated a state government release. Washington : The number of illegal voters. Crowd size. The GDP. President Donald Trump loves to cite stats and numbers to bolster his political standing. He just doesn’t seem to care much about whether they’re true. More than any other president in recent memory, Trump openly embraces shaky numbers to shape his reality. No amount of fact-checking or finger-pointing has steered him toward the truth. He rarely corrects himself and often leaves aides scratching their heads about where he gets his information. On Thursday, Trump’s factually challenged tweeting took a new grim turn. He claimed the death toll from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico last year was inflated — “3,000 people did not die,” he tweeted — falsely blaming Democrats for a count intended to make him “look as bad as possible.” More than any other public fight over the numbers, the comment rattled aides and stunned much of Washington. One Republican called it a “new low.” Many others dodged. Although Trump is far from the only politician to cherry-pick favourable statistics, the president frequently engages in wholesale distortion, manipulating numbers to score a political point and leaving aides to clean up the mess. His questionable claims have addressed the success of the economy, the number of illegal voters in the 2016 election, the size of his inaugural crowd and much more. Those off-base numbers are often repeated by aides, regurgitated by conservative media and embraced by supporters.
