Rahul Gandhi further said, ‘We consider the BJP as our brothers and sisters, but we do not agree with them.’

BJP crushes voices, we let them speak: Rahul’s maiden speech as Cong chief Not me but my mother Sonia will contest from Rae Bareli: Priyanka Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra on Saturday put to rest the speculation over her contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Rae Bareli, saying her mother Sonia Gandhi would again be in the fray from the Parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Rae Bareli is currently represented in the Lok Sabha by outgoing Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who passed on the mantle of the top party post to her son Rahul Gandhi on Saturday.

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Saturday formally became the Congress President taking the baton from his mother Sonia Gandhi. Rahul was presented with a certificate that formally names him as the new Congress President. From here on, he is officially the top boss of the Congress party. In his maiden speech as the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi said, “We consider the BJP as our brothers and sisters, but we do not agree with them. They (BJP) crush voices but we allow them to speak, they defame we respect and defend.” Rahul Gandhi said that politics belongs to the people, but today it is not being used for people. “It is not being used to uplift people, but to crush them,” the 47-yearold Congress president said. “Many of us are disillusioned by politics of our time. Today, politics is devoid of kindness and truth,” the newly-sworn Congress president said. Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “Congress took India to 21st century, but the PM, today, is taking us back to the medieval times.” Intensifying his attack on BJP, Rahul said, “You have an example in front of you, once fire breaks out it is difficult to douse it, that is what we are telling the people of BJP, that if you set the nation on fire it will be difficult to control.

Cong’s ‘corrupt working style’ will remain same: BJP on Rahul’s elevation

The BJP on Saturday dubbed the Congress as a “corrupt thought process” as it shrugged off Rahul Gandhi’s elevation as its president, saying its working style and “corrupt ways” remained the same. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a sharp attack on the Congress after Gandhi attacked the ruling party soon after replacing her mother Sonia Gandhi as its president.

The hydropower project would produce ‘251 million units’ of electrical energy every year. Aizwal: Mizoram had become the third powersurplus state in the north-east after Sikkim and Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday. He also said the central schemes for the benefit of the north-east had gained momentum and that his government was committed to developing the region. “Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in the history of Mizoram with the completion and dedication of the 60-MW Tuirial hydropower project,” the prime minister said, while

Maliwal also highlighted the need for having fast-track courts in the city so that rapists are punished forthwith.

a para-medical student, was brutally gang-raped on the intervening night of December 16, 2012, in a moving bus in South Delhi. The incident took place while she was returning

with a friend after watching a movie. She died 13 days after the incident at a hospital in Singapore. Of the six men arrested in the case, one of the accused Ram Singh hanged

himself in prison in March 2013, while another man, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, was convicted in August. Last year, he was released from th correction home after serving the maximum sentence of three years in a reform home. The other four -- Akshay, Vinay Sharma, Pawan and Mukesh -- were found guilty and sentenced to death by the Delhi High Court in September 2013. The Supreme Court also upheld the high court’s decision.

Jammu and Kashmir needs healing touch policy, change in discourse: CM Mufti Panaji : Jammu and Kashmir needs a “healing touch” policy for the political process to take over, the chief minister of the state, Mehbooba Mufti, has said. Stating that eliminating militants alone will not solve the problems of the state, she has called for a change in the present discourse on militancy, fighting, crackdowns etc. “Those in the Army and other security forces feel that they have done their job to a great extent. Now, there is a need for a healing touch policy for the political process to take over,” Mufti has said. She was speaking during an interactive session with the audience at the ‘India Ideas Conclave 2017’, an initiative of the India Foundation, last evening. “They (security forces) have created a conducive

atmosphere. There is a general feeling among the police and security forces that they are doing their job, but they alone cannot do it,” Mufti said while responding to a question from a participant about the possibility of adopting a soft approach towards the separatist elements in the Valley. “We need to have a healing touch policy. It does not mean (going) soft. If tomorrow, the court lets (hardline separatist leader) Masarat Alam go, in a democracy, what can you do? “If he (Alam) goes to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court says there is nothing against him now and that you can’t hold him back anymore, what will you do?,” she asked. “Would you say no?… No, you can’t! You have these institutions.

addressing a public meeting here after inaugurating it. With the commissioning of the project, Mizoram became the third power-surplus state in the north-east, he added. The hydropower project would produce “251 million units” of electrical energy every year and boost the economic development of the state, Modi said. “The completion of this project is a reflection of our commitment to completing the ongoing projects and ushering in a new era of development in the north-east,” he added.

No Sunny Leone please: Karnataka HM recommends Bharatanatyam instead New Delhi : In a move that would encourage the right-wing groups and arm-twisting politics, the Karnataka government has refused permission to allow Bollywood actor Sunny Leone to perform at an event on the eve of New Year in Bengaluru. Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy has backed the claims made by the members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, which alleged that allowing Sunny to perform in the city posed a threat to Kannada culture. “I have told the police commissioner not to give permission for Sunny Leone event,” he told Mirror Now. “They have taken permission to conduct a programme let them hold cultural activities like music, or Bharatanatyam not this (Sunny’s performance). He added that the organisers can go ahead with the event as planned earlier so long they take out the performance of Sunny from the schedule. The proKannada and other fringe groups in Karnataka had been opposing the upcoming ‘Sunny Night in Bengaluru NYE 2018’ event for the past several days now. On Friday, the protests in Bengaluru stepped up with the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene burning posters of Sunny. They claimed that they know her “history” and she did not represent the Indian culture.

O Sharif! You will even befriend Modi to save your money

Pakistan has landed in times where religiosity has peaked with the state beating a retreat before it; and when a reference to a politician’s “India index” brings the state down on his head. Nawaz Sharif has been outed for “corruption” but what damns him most is his “India-sucking”, that is, in Pakistani slang, kowtowing to India’s evil designs and thus harming the Kashmir cause. Hence the latest charge from Imran Khan who wants to rule Pakistan after a snap election: “I claim today that Sharif will do everything possible to save his Rs 300 billion transferred through money-laundering. O Sharif! You will even befriend Modi to save your money. You will sacrifice all interests of Pakistan at the international level.” He had Nawaz on the mat on two grounds, ideology and nationalism, both expressed as the ultimate criterion of nationhood in the textbooks that no one can detoxify. There is an appeal in this statement to the empowered clerical underworld interfacing with terrorism and the army that stands as guardian of Pakistan’s foreign policy and internal security. The message is: Get rid of this deviant who will destroy Pakistan by making it go in a direction that it is not meant to take. Pakistan’s India policy is so isolationist that even China is bothered by it. An independent foreign policy became so problematic that Nawaz Sharif finally decided after 2013 not to have a foreign minister. The opposition and the media hauled him over the coals for this “neglect” of foreign policy, but the facts point to significant events of the past shaping his decision not to have a foreign minister. One had occasion to meet the former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, T.C.A. Raghavan, in Lahore. He came across as a moderate person allergic to hard positions and willing to understand when his Pakistani interlocutors fly off the handle. Then his book ‘Attendant Lords: Bairam Khan and Abdur Rahim, Courtiers and Poets in Mughal India’ came to Pakistan and convinced me of his meticulous regard for facts. His second book ‘The People Nextdoor: The Curious History of India’s Relations with Pakistan’ (2017) has me riveted because of its unerring treatment of how Pakistan has dealt with its “India-index” problem. When I was trying to figure why out Nawaz Sharif would not keep a foreign minister, TCA’s book laid it out clearly for me.Nawaz Sharif emerged from the army’s overthrow of Prime Minister Zulfikar Bhutto and was considered the army’s challenger of the Bhutto legacy in Pakistan. He fit the “India index” judging who as PM would pass muster at the GHQ. But over the decade of the 1990s he became tired of repeatedly losing his job and coming up against the “index” when he tried to break out of the cycle of low growth and “asymmetrical” conflict after the world had lost interest in Kashmir postSimla Agreement of 1972. TCA tells us how Sharif’s Foreign Office let him down when he was trying to “normalise” with Prime Minister I.K. Gujral at a Commonwealth Summit in 1997.

Hollywood - Bollywood The Bollywood actress is said to be a part of the event called ‘Sunny Night in Bengaluru NYE 2018.’

Sunny Leone might be responsible for mass suicide on New Year’s Eve; know why Sunny Leone has to continuously fight for herself regarding the past identity and the recent development with regards to this actress appears no less. Sunny might have triggered a protest group, the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene, the youth wing of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, to commit mass suicide on New Year’s Eve. The reason? Sunny Leone was going to be part of an event in Karnataka. The event featuring the actress is called ‘Sunny Night in Bengaluru NYE 2018.’ Harish, the leader of the Pro-Kannada activists, told Indian Express, “We are against Sunny wearing short clothes. If she wears saree and takes part in the event, even we’ll go watch her. Sunny doesn’t have a good past. We shouldn’t be encouraging such people. We will not hesitate to commit suicide on December 31.” Syed Minaj, general secretary of the protesting group, took Leone’s past into consideration. He says, “We all know who Sunny Leone is, she is not an Indian or a Kannadiga. We know her history, we don’t want her to spoil the culture of the land,” according to reports on India Today. Reacting to the violent protests, the organiser issued a statement. “This is a family-type programme with Sunny dancing on a Kannada song, and I, being a Kannadiga, have kept the programme’s standard based on the Bengaluru culture itself. Even though Sunny got a lot of events that offered her more money, she rejected those and agreed to come to Bengaluru since Bengaluru and Hyderabad are her favourite places.

What’s with Sidharth Malhotra’s arcane tweet?

Sidharth Malhotra’s contemporary Varun Dhawan, who made his debut alongside him in Student of the Year, is yet to deliver a flop and has commendable blockbusters to his credit. However, the same can’t be said about Sid. The actor, whose last two releases, ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ and ‘A Gentleman’ have been colossal disasters, has all his hopes pinned on ‘Aiyaary’. However, his shaky career seems to have gotten to Sid, as he posted a sinister tweet, which has alarmed his fans to no end. The tweet read, “Sorry I am done (sic).” The actor is also reportedly going through a widely covered break-up with co-actor Alia Bhatt. Sid has changed his bio, hinting at an indefinite sabbatical and also changed his profile images to black. We would like to believe it is a promotional strategy for his upcoming film, though!

Sushant Singh Rajput was given one more chance to bond with rumoured girlfriend Kriti Sanon. And this time, it was an occasion he could not miss. Kriti’s sister Nupur Sanon celebrated her birthday at a suburban restaurant in Mumbai, and Sushant made sure he was around, and registered his presence at the do. A source says, “Sushant and Kriti were waiting outside since they were expecting a lot of guests. They were also sending guests off. All this while they’ve still not made their relationship public. They want to keep their relationship and other details of their romance as close to their hearts, and then possibly do what Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma did with their wedding.” But we guess that’s surely one way to stay in the headlines — let the rumours do the talking!

Halle Berry is done with romantic relationships Actress Halle Berry said that she’s “done with love” in an Instagram story on Wednesday, following her break-up with Alex Da Kid. She also shared a photo of rope in the shape of a heart and added three emojis of a flexed arm muscle, according to USMagazine.com. Hinting a break-up, she shared a photo on Instagram a couple of days ago and wrote, “Grow out got me feelin’ some kinda way. Every day ain’t perfect (sic).” Halle and the British music producer were romantically linked for several months. They went public with their relationship in September when they posted photos of themselves cuddling. “My balance,” they wrote. More recently, the exes attended a Halloween Party in October.

Karan Johar shares new Dhadak still; it is intense with guns and tears Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar are getting their huge Bollywood launch with Dharma’s ‘Dhadak’. The movie is termed to be a remake of the superhit Marathi movie ‘Sairat’. Sridevi had joined the duo in the beginning of this month, thus raising the excitement around the movie. ‘Dhadak’ is directed by Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt’s Dulhania series helmer Shashank Khaitan and is slated to release on 6th July, 2018.

Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon love spending time together Dangal girl Fatima Sana Sheikh, who is busy with ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, is playing it safe. The actress has apparently become cautious about posting her pictures on social media platform these days. A few months ago, she was mercilessly trolled for uploading a picture in a black swimsuit. Fatima became a victim of online trolling and slut-shaming for going on a vacation and posing for pictures in a bikini during the holy month of Ramzan. According to sources, “Fatima wants to put the trolling episode behind her. So much so that she is not too comfortable posing for photoshoots. She also wants to be double sure before uploading any pictures of her on the social media.” Recently, she was trolled for posting a picture and captioning it as, — “Shameless selfie”. The twitteratis couldn’t stop themselves from pulling her down.

Sports Special The 34-year-old endured a lengthy absence from cricket since sustaining a hamstring injury during December 2016.

Dwayne Bravo rules out playing for West Indies, says future is in T20 leagues Barbados: West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has ruled out the possibility of playing for the national side again, saying that his future solely lies in various T20 leagues being organized around the world. The 34-yearold endured a lengthy absence from cricket since sustaining a hamstring injury during Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL)

in December 2016. Having not played for the West Indies since the T20I series against Pakistan last September, Bravo said his chances of a recall into the Caribbean side are highly unlikely. Bravo said that he was dropped from the West Indies team when he was absolutely fit, and now, he doesn’t see himself playing for the national side at the

age of 34. “I am looking at these tournaments as a chance to continue playing cricket. As long as I can play cricket, I am happy. As far as internationals are concerned, I have been dropped from the West Indies team,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Bravo, as saying. “I was dropped while I was fit. I don’t think now, at 34, it would make any sense

coming back. I just need to see what is left for me, for my fans to see Dwayne Bravo playing cricket. That is my priority,” he added. The all-rounder, who has not featured in Tests for West Indies in seven years and not played in ODIs since 2014, asserted that his absence from the game at the start of this year hurt him the most.

India vs Sri Lanka, 3rd ODI: Rohit Sharma and co eye series win in Visakhapatnam Visakhapatnam: An imposing line-up and an impeccable record in this port city make India the clear favourites as they seek to clinch another series win against Sri Lanka in the third and final One-day International tomorrow. India have not lost a series at home since the defeat to South Africa in October 2015. Sri Lanka, on the

other hand, are seeking to win their first ever bilateral series in India, having lost eight and drawn one. Skipper Rohit Sharma led the fightback for India in Mohali with a superb double century, his third in ODIs after the team had been outplayed in the series opener in Dharamsala. Sharma and his men will look to ride the

momentum after a big win in the second game and seal the series at the ACA-VDCA stadium. The Indian team has lost only once at the venue in the seven games played here (with one being washed out) and will hope to keep winning on what has generally been a high-scoring ground.

Mobiles, TVs, LEDs get costlier as Centre pushes for indigenisation

New Delhi: In order to boost the “Make-in-India” initiative, the Centre on Friday hiked import duties on smartphones, television sets, microwave and LED lamps among other electronic items. The duty on imported smartphones, which has been hiked to 15 per cent, will act as a blow to Apple’s ambition as they are currently in negotiation over duty relief. However, Samsung is unlikely to be affected as it assembles most of its handsets in the country. “Indian industry does not want protection in the long term it is

only to mitigate the short-term disruption,” said Indian Cellular Association, president Pankaj Mohindroo. He that in last 5-6 months import of feature phones had short up, which among others may also be due to dumping. While TV sets and microwave ovens saw their customs duty double to 20 per cent, video recording equipment as well as TV cameras recorded a 5 per cent jump to 15 per cent. Import duty on set top boxes too been doubled to 20 per cent. Also, customs duty on lamps and lighting

Shikhar Dhawan lauds Rohit Sharma, backs Indian batsmen ahead of South Africa tour Visakhapatnam: Indian batsmen have been found wanting against the moving ball of late but opener Shikhar Dhawan today insisted that they have learnt from the mistakes made in Dharamshala and Kolkata. The ordinary performance in pace-friendly conditions has raised question marks ahead of the South Africa tour beginning early month when India go into the threematch Test series without playing a single warm-up game. “We have learnt a lot of things. Especially when we played in Kolkata (during first Test against SL) and in Dharamsala (first ODI),” said Dhawan ahead of the ODI series decider against Sri Lanka here tomorrow. “It was seaming and it was a damp wicket but we still went in with a positive intent and gave our best and of course, it didn’t go our way but we all learnt from it. It’s good sometimes when you fall, you learn a lots of things out of it,” he added. India bounced back to level the series in Mohali courtesy a third double hundred from captain

We shouldn’t have taken decision GST Council clears e-way bill mechanism for to venture into Africa: Bharti Mittal New Delhi : Telecom tycoon movement of goods Sunil Bharti Mittal on Friday seemed to regret venturing into Africa when he termed it “a bit rushed” move that took years of his personal time and resources to fix it. “We all must have made lots of mistakes. Lots of decision when you look back, say I wish they were better thought through. If you pin me down to one, I would say in 2010 our decision to go to Africa was a bit rushed and that has taken 6-7-8 years and lot of resources and my personal time to fix that,” Mittal said. He was responding to query at TiEcon Delhi event that which is the one business decision that he regrets the most. New Delhi : The all-powerful GST Council has approved mandatory compliance of e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods from June 1, 2018, sources said. The Council has fixed February 1 as the compliance date for inter-state movement of goods, sources in the panel added. The e-way bill facility bill be available for trial run from January 15. These decisions were taken at the 24th meeting of the GST Council headed by finance minister Arun Jaitley. An e-way bill is required for movement of goods worth more than Rs 50,000. When goods are transported for less than 10 km within a state, the supplier or the transporter need not furnish details on the GST portal. The e-way bill mechanism has been introduced in the GST regime to plug tax evasion loopholes. Tax evasion was one of the reasons cited by the government for the fall in revenue collection in October. The GST revenue for October stood at Rs 83,346 crore, the lowest since the implementation of GST from July 1. It was significantly lower than the September figure of Rs 95,131 crore.

Rohit Sharma. India made a bagful of runs in the second ODI but Dhawan said there were still important learnings to take from the game. “The way we came back in the next game, in Mohali we felt that it was a damp wicket at the start but it wasn’t. Still the ball wasn’t coming that nicely when we were batting at the start. “We took the pressure nicely and changed the game after ten overs. As I said, it’s always a learning curve, we are learning and we are going to get better from here,” the left-handed opener said. The southpaw was also all praise for his opening partner Rohit, who has led from the front in his first full series as captain. “He has only been captain for two matches but I’ve known Rohit from a long time and I know what his character is like. “He is a very chilled out captain and tells us to keep the basics right, we all know our roles, we just have to give our best and hats off to him for the way he performed in the last game. Very happy about it,” said Dhawan.

business Sensex, Nifty surge on hopes of BJP victory in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh MUMBAI: The markets soared higher on Friday as several exit polls showing clear victory for BJP in the recently concluded assembly election in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh fired up sentiments on the Dalal Street. The Nifty scaled above the crucial 10,300 level mark and closed the session at 10,333.25, gaining 81.15 points or 0.79 per cent. The Sensex ended the day at 33,462.97, gaining 216.27 or 0.65 per cent. According to exit poll results announced on Thursday post market hours, BJP is expected to retain Gujarat while it is likely to wrest Himachal Pradesh from Congress. “A victory for the BJP will be received well by the market while a surprise defeat (against the forecasts of the exit polls) would be a large negative surprise for the market. In the former case, we would see a modest rally and in the latter, a moderate correction as the market will also start focusing on India’s weakening macro position,” said Sanjeev Prasad, co-head and managing director at Kotak Institutional Equities. Looking ahead, Mr Prasad believes that the markets would shift their focus towards corporate earnings growth as earnings multiple have limited scope to expand from current high levels across sectors and are largely factoring in strong earnings growth over the next two years.

Uber hacked computers, recorded calls to steal rivals’ trade secrets, reveals letter

San Francisco : A former Uber security specialist accused the company of dispatching a team of spies to steal its rivals’ trade secrets and using shady tactics to thwart its competition in the ride-hailing market, according an inflammatory letter unsealed by a federal judge. Those tactics allegedly included impersonating other people, illegally recording conversations and hacking into computers. Former Uber manager Richard Jacobs, who was fired earlier this year, made the explosive claims in a 37-page letter that sought a big payoff for being forced out of the company. The letter, written by a lawyer on Jacobs’ behalf, has already reshaped a high-profile trial pitting Uber against Waymo, a Google spin-off that accuses its rival of stealing its self-driving car technology. Day after polling, Bharatsinh Solanki holds meeting, BJP leaders take it easy Ahmedabad : A day after voting for the Gujarat Assembly elections concluded, the Congress held a meeting of party candidates and office-bearers at district and taluka levels to decide preparations for December 18, when the results will be announced. The BJP will hold a similar meeting of party workers on Saturday. While several BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, used the day to relax after the gruelling campaigning, Congress’s state unit president Bharatsinh Solanki presided the

meeting at the state party office. Solanki exuded confidence that his party will secure nearly 120 seats in the 182-member Assembly. He claimed those who surveyed for exit polls — which predicted a BJP win — appeared to be “ignorant of the ground reality” and their surveys and reports were not based on fact, but on mere assumptions. “The arguments advanced by those giving another victory to the BJP don’t have any concrete evidence to show on what basis they have arrived at their decision,’’ Solanki

said. He claimed that there was an undercurrent of support for the Congress. “We are sure to win and the Congress will form the government.” Solanki said the Congress will win 65 seats out of 93 seats that went to polls in the second phase, and 55 out of 89 seats for which elections were held in the first phase. He asked candidates to remain vigilant during the counting and be present at the counter centres to ensure that the “BJP leaders were not able to play any mischief with the results.”

Ahmedabad : The Election Commission on Friday ordered repolling at six polling booths where voting was conducted in Phase-II of the Gujarat Assembly election on December 14. The repolling has been scheduled for December 17. The booths where repolling will be conducted are in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Banaskantha districts. At one of these booths, the polling officials had forgotten to conduct a mock poll, official sources said. Two of the booths where repolling will be conducted fall under the Vadgam seat where polling was suspended after ink marks were found on the election symbol of Independent candidate Jignesh Mevani on the EVM and a BJP candidate raised an objection.

Vadodara : A day after voting process concluded for the Gujarat Assembly elections, Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel on Friday fired a fresh salvo at the ruling BJP, alleging the party “used Patel youths” to come to power in 2002 and later “left them in a lurch”. He also hailed Naroda Patiya riots convict Babu Bajrangi as the “real leader” of Hindutva. In a Facebook Live chat, Hardik said he was not “anxious about the results on December 18” and will “continue fight for justice” regardless of which party wins the elections. In a 34-minute live chat on Facebook, Hardik Patel, accompanied by PAAS Morbi convener Manoj Panara, paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 67th death anniversary, and urged the Patidar community to

Gujarat elections: EC orders repolling in 6 booths of second phase Ahmedabad : The Gujarat High Court on Friday disposed of a petition, moved by the Congress candidate of Mehsana constituency, Jivabhai Patel who claimed that three Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used for the polls on Thursday were found to be connected with Bluetooth. experts said data from the November 29 test appeared to support that. Mattis did not elaborate on what was lacking in the test to show it was not a capable threat. He said himself immediately after the test that the missile had gone higher than any previous North Korean

launch and that it was part of a research and development effort “to continue building ballistic missiles that can threaten everywhere in the world, basically.” US-based experts, some of whom have been sceptical about past North Korean claims, said in November that data and

photos from the test appeared to confirm North Korea had a missile of sufficient power to deliver a nuclear warhead anywhere in America. But experts and US officials have said questions remain about whether it has a reentry vehicle capable of protecting a nuclear warhead as it speeds toward its target and about the accuracy of its guidance systems. South Korea’s Defense Ministry said this latest test put Washington within range, but Pyongyang still needed to prove it had mastered re-entry, terminal stage guidance and warhead activation.

The fight will go on regardless of the result, and I will fight honestly. I will meet all communities to awaken them.” Hardik, who also put out a series of tweets about his visit to Ambaji, meeting with tribal communities, and about “cowards who never stepped out of their homes to fight”, echoed the apprehension of “EVM hacking”.

US may stop spouses of H-1B visa holders from working Washington: The Trump administration is considering revoking an Obama-era rule that extends work authorisation to the spouses of H-1B visa holders, a move that could affect thousands of Indian workers and their families. Since 2015, the spouses of H-1B, or highskilled, visa holders waiting for green cards have been eligible to work in the US on H-4 dependent visas, under a rule introduced by the previous Obama administration. In 2016, more than 41,000 of H-4 visa holders were issued work authorisation. This year till June more than 36,000 H-4 visa holders were issued work authorisation. The H-1B programme attracts foreign specialised workers to come to the United States for employment, many of them from India and China. “DHS is proposing to remove from its regulations certain H-4 spouses of H-1B non-immigrants as a class of aliens eligible for employment authorisation,” said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in a latest regulation. According to the notice, the changes is being made in light of President Trump’s ‘Buy American and Hire American’ order issued earlier this

year. According to CNN, while changing the rule wouldn’t prevent spouses of H-1B holders from pursuing other avenues for work authorisation, it could deter a number of high-skilled immigrants from staying in the US if their spouses can’t easily find work. The Wall Street Journal said such a proposal dismayed supporters of the programme. “This announcement places into jeopardy thousands of hardworking, contributing individuals who have started their own businesses and often have US citizen children who will needlessly be forced to revert to a status of inactivity,” Leon Fresco, an immigration attorney who worked for the Obama administration, told the daily.
