Padmavati to Padmaavat and a long trail of controversies: A timeline of obstacles the film faced Agency | Mumbai

Horsing around

A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse ! Shakespeare may or may not be the preferred choice of the ‘desi boys’ resident in Delhi and ready to get hitched this wedding season but they had better start boning up on their Richard III (Act V Scene IV).More to the point, these grooms-in-waiting should commence a search for their own Castes by to help them find a suitable horse, safed ghodi for choice, on which to lead the baraat to their rides’ houses. For, the authorities are considering imposing a blanket ban in the movement of horses in the Capital to contain the spread of Glanders disease in the equine population that would conclude with the start of the wedding season in north India on 14 January (Makar Sakranti). There is no making light of the seriousness of Glanders disease which 40 horses have already contracted and which can be fatal for the animal, especially as the fears of it spreading to the human population are real. And the Union Ministry of Agriculture has taken the right decision to involve the Home-Ministry to ban all movement of horses within and in or out of Delhi after reports from the National Research Centre on Equines indicated that another 32 horses have tested positive for the disease in Hisar, Haryana. But do spare a thought for The studs looking for their steeds, as it were. Already, many wedding bands that had been booked for marriages this season are complaining of cancellations -- after all, what’s the fun of young and old dripping with jewellery and encased in their finery dancing in the streets with the band blaring popular tunes unless one is doing so in front of the groom astride his horse? Of the two elements that make weddings in these parts what they are the boisterousness may not be to everyone’s taste but boy do they know how to party -- the horse is most definitely one. As a wag remarked, it would be small recompense for grooms who fail to find an appropriate ride to be told that at least they won’t be the asses atop horses on D-Day.

Sara Ali Khan throwing tantrums on sets? Bollywood’s wedding fever continues as another celebrity couple, Ashmit Patel and Maheck Chahal, is all set to tie the knot. Interestingly, the real life couple can be seen together in their upcoming whodunnit, Nirdosh, and, by the looks of it, their chemistry in the film seems quite bold. Surprisingly, despite

knowing each other for over a decade and dating for the past couple of years, the duo found shooting the sensuous scenes difficult. “It’s our first film together as a couple. Gavaskar, one of the ICC Cricket Hall of Famers, had achieved the milestone in his 50th Test when he scored 13 and 221 at The Oval in 1979 to jump from 887 points to 916 points, which remained his career-best.Kohli, who

recorded his 21st century at Centurion, got to the rare feat in his 65th Test after vaulting from 880 points to 900 points.Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are the other two India batsmen who came close to the 900-point mark, but were unable to break the barrier. Tendulkar peaked to 898 points in 2002, while Dravid achieved 892 points in

2005.Kohli is only the 31st batsman in the history of Test cricket to reach 900 points. Don Bradman sits on top of the table with 961 points, followed by Steve Smith (947), Len Hutton (945), Ricky Ponting and Jack Hobbs (both 942 points). In doing so, Kohli has also leapfrogged Joe Root of England into second position as the top four positions continue to be occupied by Test captains who have all played in past ICC U19 Cricket World Cups.Kohli trails Smith by 47 points but now leads Root by 19 points, who, in turn, leads Kane Williamson by 26 points. Other batsmen inside the top 20 to head in the right direction are South Africa’s trio of Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and Dean Elgar, while

Considering the touch he was in, the team management preferred him over Rahane.Jones said India needed a tough tour like South Africa to sort out their team selection.“You need to have these kind of tours to sort out your composition, to find out whether they are good enough or not. So may be there has been

too much reliance on his (Sharma’s) ODI form but all in all you have to have a series like this to find out if they are good enough.“If he misses out in the next series, Ravi (Shastri) and Kohli can say ‘we gave you the opportunity’,” said the 56- year-old, who was in the capital to promote the ‘Visit Victoria’ education and tourism cam-

paign.Former India captains like Ajit Wadekar and Bishan Singh Bedi attributed India’s surrender in South Africa to lack of preparation and the fact that they went into the series opener at Newlands without a warm-up match.Jones, however, has a different take on the touchy topic.“The modern-day schedules are such that often there is no time for a warm-up game. But why should you only rely on that? I have spoken to the likes of VVS Laxman, who tell me he, Dravid and Tendulkar used to start preparing three months before touring Australia.“Dealing with the bouncing ball and so on. So the players have got to take the responsibility individually (when it comes

to preparation),” said Jones, who represented Australia in 52 Tests and 164 ODIs.In India, he is best-known for his 210 in only the second tied Test in history, at Chennai in 1986.The series in South Africa out of their grasp, Jones feels it is still not time to judge the current Indian team, which is scheduled to tour England and Australia later this year.“I think the structuring of the series (with no warm-up games) is such that once you lose the first Test, it is very tough to come back. You don’t have many teams winning overseas anyway.“I was researching on this, probably South Africa is the only team which has done well overseas in the past 10-15 years.

Manchester United Set to Make Alexis Sanchez Highest-Paid Premier League Player: Reports Agency | New Delhi The 29-year-old’s wage demands are said to have scared off Manchester City and Chelsea, leaving United as his main suitors. Manchester United are set to land Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal by making him the Premier League’s highest paid player, according to several reports on Thursday. The Chilean striker would earn between 400,000 and 500,000 pounds ($555,000 and $690,000) a week before tax by moving to Old Trafford, according to The Sun, the Daily Telegraph and other newspapers. The 29-yearold’s wage demands are said to have scared off Manchester City and Chelsea, leaving United as his main suitors. The Daily Telegraph reported that United have

offered Sanchez a fourand-a-half-year contract and he would move for a £30 million transfer fee -- it is relatively low because he could leave for free at the end of the summer. The deal for the former Barcelona player would also likely involve a £20 million signing-on fee and a £10 million agent’s fee. The Sun reports however that Arsenal could still refuse to allow Sanchez to leave if they do not find a replacement. However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger at his Thursday press conference said the deal was probably going to be done.“I worked on transfers for 30 years so it is likely to happen but at any moment or minute things can break down,” said Wenger.“As long as it’s not over the line you have to accept it may not happen.

The Gujarat high court on Tuesday asked the state government to pay Rs 5 lakh, as compensation for negligence by the Sabarmati central jail authorities, to the widow of Chetan Patel alias Battery, who was killed inside the prison in 2005.A division bench upheld the conclusion of a single-judge bench that Battery’s murder inside the jail was due to negligence by jail officials and that the state Government was bound to pay his family compensation. The singlejudge bench had ordered the government to pay compensation on a petition filed by Battery’s widow, Hetal.Battery incarcerated in Sabarmati Central Jail in August

1995, in connection with a murder case. He was killed in August 2005, and the murder was considered the result of a gang war within the prison. The state government was not ready to accept that there was negligence by jail officials and challenged the order for compensation. The division bench rejected the state government’s arguments and said that the jail superintendent and his officers were negligent in their duty. Jail officials were indicted in a departmental inquiry and two were evendismissed from service. In all, 12 persons were convicted for Battery’s murder and for bringing weapons into the prison. The Government cannot thus claim that jail officials were not negligent.

him he would be killed in a police encounter so he had left the VHP office and reached his close aide Ghanshyam Charandas’s home. He claimed that at 3 pm, he left for Ahmedabad airport to catch a flight to Jaipur, thinking he would surrender in court, but on the way he fainted and then found himself in the hospital. That evening, joint commissioner, crime branch, J K Bhatt, said whatever claims Togadia had made were false. On Wednesday, after getting discharged from the hospital, Togadia attacked Bhatt. “Main joint commissioner of police, crime branch, par aarop laga raha hoon. Unke phone ke 15 dino ke incoming aur outgoing call ko sarvjanik kiya jaye, ki kitni baar inhoney Pradhan Mantri se baat ki hai,” he said.Bhatt told The Indian Express: “When Modiji was

CM I have never talked to him on the phone. Do you think he will speak to me when he is the PM. I have never talked to him… as it is being stated.”The police officer added: “We presented what we got based on our investigations. In the press conference which Pravinbhai had addressed on Tuesday he said that it was an attempted encounter, a politically motivated plan and a conspiracy against it. He had Z-plus security and he should not have jumped into an auto if he thought he was under threat. He could have called the security.” Togadia also attacked the BJP, saying that “those who are connecting me with the Congress after its leader came to check my health should ask such questions to the BJP leaders who have Congress-ised the party.” He said Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia

had come to see him in the hospital.“In Uttar Pradesh, over hundred MLAs of the BJP were in the Congress. The BJP has ministers who were in the Congress. And I am being connected with Congress just because its leader Arjun Modhwadia came to see me,” he said. Attacking the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Togadia said: “It is the same office which made fake videos of RSS worker Sanjay Joshi. I know it because I was part of a probe. There was a conspiracy hatched in Gujarat. I also know who made it and will reveal this later, not today.”Hospital doctor RM Agrawal said: “Pravinbhai was discharged around 4 pm. He is fine and all his reports are in place. He will have to follow up with a cardiologist and a diabetologist soon. His son was there when he was discharged.”

CCTVs in classrooms so parents can see kids in real-time: Arvind Kejriwal

SS News | Gandhinagar

The move is precipitated by the murder of a seven-year-old at a private school in Gurgaon, followed by the rape of a toddler at a school in Gandhinagar After holding a review meeting over installation of CCTV cameras in all Delhi government school classrooms, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday said parents will be given access to see their children in class on a real-time basis within three months. The meeting where this was decided was attended by Education Minister Manish Sisodia, PWD minister Satyendar Jain, Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash and officials of the department of education. The move is precipitated by the murder of a sevenyear-old at a private school in Gurgaon,

followed by the rape of a toddler at a school in Gandhinagar. It also came a day after a private school was charged by Delhi Police in the case of a child allegedly being sexually abused by another child. In September last year, the CBSE had issued a notice to all affiliated schools in enlisting guidelines to ensure a child’s safety on the school premises. Lt Governor Anil Baijal had directed the Delhi government to make security measures mandatory, linking the schools to rules for recognition, while also asking the Delhi Police to waive verification charges in a bid to provide incentives to school to conduct background check on their staff.A government official said, “Taking stock of the progress of the project, the CM said that the process of

installation of CCTVs in schools should start within three months.”Officials said it was also decided that the education minister, secretary education and director education would “have the rights to view any classroom of any Delhi government school through the app at any point of time.” “There would be an auto complaint system to check non-functioning of any CCTV in the schools. The auto system would itself lodge a complaint

and it will go to the system integrator who would then rectify the camera.”Kejriwal, meanwhile, said, “Each parent will be given access to see his child studying in class on real-time basis on his/her phone. This will make the whole system transparent and accountable and would ensure safety of kids.”“The auto system would itself lodge a complaint and it will go to the system integrator who would then rectify the camera.”

Vinay Chauhan, said, “Acting on information that an accused, Manoj, who was involved in a loot case last week, was at Mohanpur village, a police team rushed to spot. Seeing the police, the group opened fire and the team fired back in retaliation. A bullet fired by the

assailants hit the boy on the head. He was playing near the spot. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.”The CO further said that the gang managed to escape and that the bullet that hit Madhav, who was from a family of farmers, came from the gang’s end.
