A bench of Justices Naresh Patil and G S Kulkarni said the state must take preventive steps to minimize incidents involving juveniles as well as crime against children. “There was a recent news report of an eight-month-old girl being sexually assaulted. Will go on indefinite fast if Kadapa steel plant promise not fulfilled: TDP MP to PM Modi

New Delhi : TDP MP CM Ramesh in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday he would be “constrained to undertake an indefinite fast” if immediate steps are not taken to establish a steel plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district. Ramesh wrote the letter five days after the Centre, citing a Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) feasibility report, told the Supreme Court that it was not “financially viable” to construct a steel plant at Kadapa. “The Government of India filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that the project is not economically viable. It appears that the said statement was based on the initial SAIL report. This news has aroused emotions of the people of Andhra Pradesh in general and those from Kadapa district in particular,” the letter read. It is the Centre’s “statutory responsibility to fulfill the assurance as stated in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (APR) Act”, the TDP MP wrote in the letter. He said the Centre should take early action for the establishment of an integrated steel plant in Kadapa district at the earliest or “I will be constrained to undertake an indefinite fast”.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari had said that it was “unfortunate” that the chief ministers of four states allowed themselves to be a part of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo’s “drama”.

No end in sight to Delhi-Centre impasse; IAS officers come out in public, allege victimisation

New Delhi : As the sit-in by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal continued on the seventh day on Sunday, the tug of war between the AAP dispensation and the Lieutenant Governor refused to die down with IAS officers coming out in public alleging that they have been “targeted and victimised” for political gains. As the deadlock continues, chief ministers of four-nonBJP ruled states urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and solve the crisis. Later in the day, Kejriwal tried to salvage the situation by sending out an “assurance of safety” to the officers whom he called part of his families. The political slugfest between parties continued with the AAP upping the ante and organizing a massive march to the prime minister’s residence. The march was, however, stopped by the

India, China ties cannot take strain of another Doklam, says Chinese envoy

New Delhi : Bilateral ties between India and China can’t take the strain of another Doklam episode, Chinese envoy to India Luo Zhaohui said on Monday, emphasising on the need to find a “mutually acceptable solution” on the boundary issue through a meeting of the Special Representatives. The Chinese envoy said at an event here that “some Indian friends” had suggested a trilateral summit comprising India, China and Pakistan, which was a “very constructive” idea. Dwelling on SinoIndian ties, he said it is quite natural to have differences but they need to be controlled and managed through cooperation. “We need to control, manage, narrow differences through expanding cooperation.

AAP protest gets national stature

As the sin-in strike by Delhi CM in the Lt Governor’s house entered the eighth day, Arvind Kejriwal has achieved much more than what he had originally set out for when he decided to resort to the most uncommon form of protest. Despite an adverse remark by the Delhi High Court that the AAP leaders cannot stage a protest in someone’s house, the political content of Kejriwal’s agitation received more national support. In fact, the issue has forced itself on the national political stage, posing a serious crisis for the Opposition unity efforts, thanks to a curious twist to the story introduced by Congress. Rahul Gandhi’s party, which has been projecting for itself an anchor role in putting up a united front against Modi in the 2019 elections, finds itself isolated from the rest as more and more Opposition parties joined the chorus in support of the Delhi CM’s stand. Among those who came out to express solidarity with the Delhi government were Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav, DMK working president M K Stalin, CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, rebel BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and his sidekick ‘Shotgun’ Shatrughan Sinha, Tamil actor politician Prakash Raj and the most unlikely Nitish Kumar JD(U), which is an NDA partner in Bihar. CMs Mamata, Chandrababu, Kumaraswamy and Pinarayi Vijayan had already taken up Kejriwal’s cause with PM Modi when they met him on the sidelines of the Niti Aayog meeting in Delhi. In contrast, the BJP appeared to be ploughing a lonely furrow, coming out on the streets to protest against the Delhi CM’s inaction when Delhi was suffering a serious administrative vacuum. As the issue got catapulted into a national debate on Centre-state relations, there were few takers for the BJP line and the party seemed to appear fighting a lost cause. As two fasting ministerial colleagues got admitted to hospital and Kejriwal showed no signs of backing off, matters appeared to be heading to a flash point, with intervention at the highest level brooking no further delay, despite the adverse remark by the court. It remains a debatable issue whether the court was right in describing the Lt Governor’s residential office as ‘someone’s house or office’. LG is not just someone in this particular instance, but a central player in the entire political drama. Raj Niwas can by no means be considered someone’s house. In any case, that was only an observation of the court and not part of any ruling, which will probably be issued when the court considers the matter again next Friday. As battle lines get drawn for 2019, it is obvious that Kejriwal’s unique protest may have played a defining role.

Who cares about critics? Salman Khan’s Race 3 hits century on opening weekend

Hollywood - Bollywood Kareena Kapoor Khan to perform at Miss India 2018 finale? Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set to perform on stage after two years. The Bollywood actor will, reportedly, perform at Miss India 2018 grand finale.

Mumbai: It’s a give-and-take between Salman Khan and his fans on Eid. The superstar has gifted them his Eidi with his big budget action thriller, ‘Race 3’, and they have returned the favour by going out in huge numbers to the theatres. Also read: Race 3: Love you personally and professionally, says Aamir Khan to Salman Khan The result? ‘Race 3’ has hit the three-figure mark at the box office in the opening weekend itself. After grossing the highest figures of the year for any Bollywood film, on Friday and Saturday, with Rs 29.17 crores and Rs 38.14 crores respectively, the Remo D’Souza directorial went one notch higher, minting Rs 39.16 crores on Sunday. The total now stands at Rs 106.47 crores and is at par with Bhaijaan’s other Eid blockbusters, like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (102.60 cr) and ‘Sultan’ (105.53 cr). However, the figure is lower than Tiger Zinda Hai (114.93 cr), and it’s surprising that his Christmas release took a better opening than his Eid counterpart. ‘Race 3’s thunderous opening also proves that Salman is almost (due to ‘Tubelight’ and ‘Jai Ho’) ‘critic-proof’ at the box office. Critics have gone hard at the film and negative reviews and one, two-star opinions have outshined the few and far between words of appreciation.

New Delhi : After taking over the silver screen with her performance in Veere Di Wedding, Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set to take over the stage too. The actor, who recently traveled to London for a vacation with husband Saif Ali Khan and little munchkin Taimur, has flown back to Mumbai to fulfill her professional commitment. She has allotted two days for rehearsals and is prepping for her act with a choreographer. Her prep session lasts for 9 hours a day. She will be performing to a medley of her favorite songs including Tareefan, Mera Naam Mary and Mauja Hi Mauja among

others,” a source revealed. After the performance, Kareena will reportedly fly back to London and join Saif and Taimur. On the work front, Kareena Kapoor had recently shot for an advertisement with Saif Ali Khan. While the ad promo is yet to be out, the photos from the shoot went viral. Speculations are rife that Kareena has signed her next under Karan Johar’s production banner but nothing has been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, the actor said she would focus on doing only one film a year from now on.

Akshay Kumar does a good deed and you don’t even know about it!

There were three instances during the actor’s recent interaction with fans that directly or indirectly concerned Alia Bhatt.

Will you marry me, Ranbir posts on Twitter, reacts to query on when he’ll get hitched

Mumbai: Bollywood celebrities love playing hide-and-seek with the media regarding their relationship status. However, Ranbir Kapoor has offered the rare example of a celebrity who has accepted that he is indeed dating Alia Bhatt. So Ranbir

recently joined Twitter unofficially for a brief while through the handle of Fox Star Studios, the co-producers of his next ‘Sanju’, on Sunday. And with so much of spotlight on his relationship with Alia, there were three instances during the interaction with fans

that directly or indirectly concerned the actress. First was when he was asked which songs he’s hooked on currently. One was the obvious, ‘Kar Har Maidaan Fateh’ from his own film, ‘Sanju’, but the other was ‘Dilbaro’ from his ladylove’s recent blockbuster ‘Raazi.’

The camera’s (apparently, owned by Taapsee, herself) auto-focus on the legend was not missed by the actress and she was quick to point it out. The ‘Naam Shabana’ actress pointed at the duo’s reunion, as the pair was last seen together in 2016’s epic courtroom drama, ‘Pink’.In current times, the duo has begun shooting for ‘Badla’ in the Scottish lowlands.

England all-rounders Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes set to miss ODI series against Australia

Mumbai: Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo’s bust at Madeira Airport, which gained worldwide attention last year has been replaced. The bust was created by a sculptor Emanuel Santos when the airport was renamed in Ronaldo’s honour in 2017. However, as soon as the bust was unveiled it went viral on social media and faced widespread ridicule and criticism as it hardly resembled the dashing personality of the football superstar. The new bust installed bear much more resemblance to the 33-year-old superstar. According to Madeira

Island News the statue was replaced on the request of Ronaldo’s family. The previous had faced a lot of flak on social media where people compared it to F1 driver David Coulthard, the head from British television show Art Attack and even former Sunderland striker Niall Quinn. Meanwhile, Madeira Island News also quoted Madrid’s Airport director Duarte Ferreira who said that the original sculpture has been saved, but no decision has been taken on what to do with it. However, Twitterati has come up with a quirky answer- bring it back.

Mumbai: England allrounders Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes are set to miss the remainder of the fivematch ODI series against Australia due to injuries. Both the players are yet to recover from the injuries they sustained previously. While Woakes is yet to recover from a right quad tear he sustained at Emerald Headingley in the second Test against Pakistan, Stokes is still recuperating from the torn hamstring sustained a couple of weeks ago. In a statement released the ECB provided updates on both the cricketers. “Chris Woakes has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday

and will now undertake a rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries. A date for return cannot be specified at this stage, but he will not be available before the India Royal London ODI series,” the statement read. “England and Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes’ torn left hamstring is progressing well. He can bat fully and is now able to run at 90 percent capacity. He will commence his return to bowling programme this week,” it added. The English camp is hoping that Stokes will be fit for the crucial series against India which begins next month.

Andy Murray must overcome mental challenge after injury, says Novak Djokovic

Mumbai: Former world number one Novak Djokovic says overcoming the mental challenge will be Andy Murray’s biggest obstacle when he returns to tennis after a longterm hip injury. Murray, who has been sidelined for almost a year since losing in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last July, will face Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the first round at the Queen’s Club tournament on Tuesday. “… I think the biggest challenge will always be mental,” Djokovic, who is trying to recapture top form after undergoing elbow surgery earlier this year, told British media. “How to get it out

of your head, understand that it’s behind you, that you’re fine now, that you’re healthy and you can focus on your game rather than thinking 50 percent of the time about whether or not something can happen.” The 12time Grand Slam champion also said grass might not be the ideal surface for Murray to make his return. “I don’t know the state of his hips,” said Djokovic. “But the one thing that could be a bit dangerous is slipping on the grass. That’s something that is very unpredictable and grass is always this kind of surface where one wrong footing can make something go wrong, especially in the hips.”

Experian’s Digital Consumer Insights 2018 report, coauthored with advisory firm IDC, delves into how well businesses mitigate fraud risk through the eyes of their most important stakeholders, the customers. The report is based on a response from a consumer survey across ten APAC markets namely Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The study found that as brands and consumers are looking

for easier ways to buy and sell products online via mobile devices –the opportunity for online fraud is escalating simultaneously. The report categorizes the consumer behavior into two prominent categories – The Digital Voyagers, digitally savvy, with a high willingness to share data for better experience and a low tendency to switch providers in an event of fraud; and The Digital Pragmatists, digitally conservative, cautious about fraud with a low willingness to share data. India has been classified as the Digital Voyager, who is more convenience-driven and less risk-averse. Talking about the insights from the report, Vaishali Kasture, Managing Director Experian Credit Bureau and Country Head, Experian India said “Through the study we observed that consumers from India, are driven by convenience and are less aware about online frauds when compared to other APAC countries like Singapore and Hong Kong. Prevalent customer practice to bear the cost of the fraud is not a solution to mitigating digital frauds, more needs to be done to build awareness and collectively fight fraud”.

international Donald Trump says he won’t let United States become ‘migrant camp’

Washington : US President Donald Trump said on Monday he would not allow the United States to become a “migrant camp” as his administration faced a barrage of criticism for separating immigrant children from their parents at the US-Mexico border. Democrats and some in Trump’s own Republican Party have blasted the administration for separating nearly 2,000 children from their parents at the border between mid-April and the end of May. Medical professionals have said the practice could cause lasting trauma to children. The family separations are the result of the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy that arrests all adults who are caught trying to enter the United States illegally, including those seeking asylum. While parents are held in jail, their children are sent to separate detention facilities. Video footage released by the government showed migrant children held in wire cages, sitting on concrete floors. Trump, who has made a tough stance on immigration a major goal of his presidency, responded sharply to critics on Monday.

New York : Oil prices rose on Monday in volatile trade as this week’s OPEC meeting raised the specter of production increases and as investors assessed the impact of a trade dispute between the United States and China. US crude oil edged up 43 cents a barrel to $65.49 by 1:15 p.m. EDT (1715 GMT). The contract earlier traded at a two-month low of $63.59. Brent crude jumped $1.55 to $74.99 a barrel. US crude’s discount to Brent <WTCLc1-LCOc1> widened to as much as $9.73 a barrel, after narrowing Friday. China’s trade restrictions could leave the growing volumes of U.S. crude from shale without a buyer, traders said. While the volumes would ultimately get shipped elsewhere, absent China the price could be depressed, traders said. In May, Brent hit a 3-1/2year high above $80 a barrel, but has slid since then on reports that top suppliers Saudi Arabia and Russia will increase production. “Volatility is going to be pretty high this week,” said Bob Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho in New York. Indications from OPEC members and other large producers on the scale of potential production increases are likely to drive the market, he said.

French President Macron scolds teen for asking ‘How’s it going, Manu?’

Paris : President Emmanuel Macron upbraided a French teenager on Monday after the boy addressed the president informally as “Manu” and sang the socialist anthem in front of him. Macron was attending a ceremony in northern France to commemorate General Charles De Gaulle’s call for popular resistance during World War Two. The young man, who looked to be in his mid-teens, was standing behind a barrier as Macron passed along the crowd. He was captured on LCI television singing the words of the international socialist anthem before asking the president, “Ca va Manu?” (How’s it going, Manu?). “No, no, you are here at an official ceremony,” Macron, 40, told him sharply. “You can’t just behave like that. “You can act like a clown, but today it’s the ‘Marseillaise’ and the ‘Partisans Song’ we’re singing. You address me as Mr President of the Republic or plain mister.” The boy, shaggy hair falling in front of his eyes, apologised. But Macron, who is known for his quick tongue and often mixes elevated language with street slang, went on: “You need to do things the right way. Even if you want to lead a revolution one day, you’ve first got to earn a diploma and learn how to put food on the table.”
