Short News Jammu & Kashmir decision to help state, country, says CM Yogi Adityanath Gorakhpur : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday termed the BJP’s decision to pull out of the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir as a step in favour of the state and the country. “From the past three years, continuous efforts were being made to work for the people and according to their wishes. Today the BJP central leadership, after taking the deputy CM, ministers, MLAs and local leaders in confidence, pulled out of the BJP-PDP alliance,” he said. “I think the BJP has taken a big step in favour of the country and J&K,” he told reporters at Gorakhpur. He said the BJP-led government at the Centre had made a lot of effort for Jammu and Kashmir. “A massive flood had hit J&K three years ago and Indian army’s work there was remarkable.

Amethi residents sell petrol, diesel at low rates to ring in Rahul Gandhi’s birthday Amethi: Selling petrol and diesel at low rates, providing 10 per cent discount on goods and distributing household items to 87 families of a village—is how residents of Amethi celebrated the birthday of Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi, who represents Amethi in Parliament, turns 48 on Tuesday. The party workers said they wanted to see their “MP become the PM in 2019”. On the occasion, Congress activists led by Gandhi’s representative Chandra Kant Dubey distributed domestic items to 87 families of Gajanpur Duaria village in Musafirkhana Tehsil. The families had lost their possessions in a devastating fire some days back. Dubey said at least three petrol pumps in Amethi sold petrol and diesel at low prices to “show that prices will be controlled when Rahul Gandhi will be prime minister in 2019”.

‘Dynastic approaches’ closing doors of opportunity for common man: Varun Gandhi Bengaluru : Expressing concern over “dynastic approaches” in various important areas, including politics, BJP MP Varun Gandhi said this was closing the doors of opportunity for the common man. He was addressing an event on ‘The road to India’s Future: Opportunities and Challenges’, organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industries here yesterday. “How do we open the doors to more people in politics? Everybody knows that politics has dynastic approaches. There are certain families in every state, district, and country that are prominent. It is unfortunate, but true,” he said. The BJP MP lamented that no important sector was devoid of this phenomenon. Gandhi said if one today looked at the film industry, sports fraternity, politics and industry, almost all doors were closed to the common man. “If you are a talented young person growing up in a small town and you have immense talent and courage, ability what will you do? Sometimes it is just wasted. It saddens me,” said Gandhi who hails from the Nehru family. He, however, admitted that he would not have grown politically if he had not come from a political dynasty. Speaking about the poor pace of innovation in India, Gandhi said there was a lack of funding.

Rocky relationship between PDP and BJP comes to an end: A look at flashpoints between the two partners

New Delhi : After the 2014 J&K elections threw up a fractured verdict, the BJP and the PDP formed an unlikely alliance to rule the state. In the run up to the elections in 2014, both the parties had attacked each other on key issues. Therefore, when they decided to go together, leaving the acrimonious election campaign behind, many were apprehensive about the alliance. It’s no surprise that the alliance between the unlikeliest of partners collapsed in just the fourth year of it being in power. From blaming each other for stone pelting and mob violence to the recent slugfest on the Kathua gang rape, both the parties have seldom been on the same page while implementing decisions or chalking policies. After the alliance was formed in 2014, one of the key reasons, outlined by late PDP leader Mufti Mohammed Syed to join hands with BJP, was to bridge the growing divide between the Jammu and Kashmir regions of the troubled state. In the 2014 polls, the Jammu region had voted overwhelmingly for BJP, with the saffron party winning 25 of the 37 seats in the Hindu majority part of the state. The PDP, on the other hand, won 25 of the 46 seats in the Valley and three seats in the Muslim-dominated areas of the Jammu region. When Mufti passed away two months later, Modi didn’t attend his funeral.

Muscular security policy will not work in Jammu and Kashmir: Mehbooba Soon after the BJP pulled out of the alliance with the PDP, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said her party will continue to strive for dialogue and reconciliation in the state. “We had always said muscular security policy will not work in Jammu and Kashmir. The state can’t be treated as enemy territory. Reconciliation is the key.” Terming the alliance as untenable, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Tuesday pulled the plug on the four-year-old alliance with the PDP in the violence-hit state.

Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the fourth International Yoga Day celebrations in the campus of the Dehradun-based Forest Research Institute (FRI), on Thursday. Joining the prime minister will be at least 50,000 yoga enthusiasts from institutions including Baba Ramdev’s Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar-based Shanti Kunj, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living, participants from the “spiritual organisation” Brahma Kumaris, and yoga practitioners from Swami Chidanand Saraswati’s Rishikeshbased Parmarth Niketan, officials said. Amidst tight security of almost 3,000 police personnel who will be at the FRI campus, Modi is scheduled to arrive at the FRI ground at 6:30 on Thursday morning, where he will perform yoga along with other participants and government officials on a 400 sqm area. Opportunistic BJP-PDP alliance set Kashmir on fire; incompetence, arrogance, hatred always fail: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi : Reacting sharply to the end of the three-year-old BJPPDP alliance in conflict-ridden Kashmir on Tuesday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi stated that the ‘opportunistic’ nature of the coalition had ‘set fire to Jammu and Kashmir’ and resulted in the killing of countless brave soldiers as well as innocent civilians. Gandhi said that the damage shall continue even if Centre imposed governor’s rule in the state. The Congress president’s reaction came hours after the BJP pulled the plug from its alliance with PDP. “Incompetence, arrogance and hatred always fail (sic),” Gandhi tweeted earlier today. “It cost India strategically & destroyed years of UPA’s hard work. The damage will continue under President’s rule,” he added.

the foundation stone for construction works at Kedarnath, in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Since then he has been reviewing the progress of

the works that he had announced at Kedarnath. Uttarakhand being a politically dormant area, prime minister’s sudden interest in the state with projects such as rebuilding the flood-hit Kedarnath and his decision to celebrate International Yoga Day in Dehradun has raised people’s curiosity. Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat said that Modi’s presence in Dehradun on Yoga Day “will give the state the much-needed recognition as a yoga destination.

Delhi political crisis : AAP dharna

Deadlock ends as Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal calls off nine-day sit-in at L-G’s residence, AAP terms it ‘victory of democracy’ New Delhi : Bringing an end to the nine-day political deadlock in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday called off his sitin at the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal’s residence after bureaucrats started attending meetings with AAP ministers, “We have nothing against IAS officers, 99% of them are good people, we have worked with them to improve governance in Delhi. They were just a front for interference by central govt & LG,” Kejriwal said in a press conference after leaving the L-G’s residence. He also stated that the “struggle” will continue until Delhi is granted full statehood. Kejriwal, along with his

Cabinet Ministers–Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Gopal Rai–had been staging a sit-in protest at the L-G’s office since June 11 over their demands, including a direction to

IAS officers to end their “strike” and approval of the doorstep ration delivery scheme. The bureaucrats have been at loggerheads with the AAP dispensation following the

alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February. The development came hours after the L-G wrote to the chief minister asking him to meet officers urgently to address concerns of both sides through dialogue. Baijal shot off a letter to Kejriwal in response to his deputy Manish Sisodia’s communication in which the latter had asked for a meeting between the government and bureaucrats to end the impasse. Sisodia and Jain, who were on a hunger strike at the L-G’s office and were hospitalised after their health deteriorated, were discharged this morning from the LNJP Hospital.

Cong exclusion grows stronger

The Bengaluru spirit of unity, celebrated with much fanfare after the entire non-BJP Opposition lined up on an extended stage for the swearing-in of HD Kumaraswamy as Karnataka chief minister, is progressively dissipating. As 2019 draws nearer, new irritants are continually putting strains on the Opposition’s efforts to put up a joint fight to deny Modi his second term. That matters were not as smooth as they appeared to be became clear within hours of the swearing-in as the new CM struggled with ministry-making, the bitterness of which was aired many times by Kumaraswamy, leading his smallest block of MLAs. Despite the bonhomie between Mayawati and Sonia Gandhi becoming the mascot of the milestone Bengaluru event, the BSP leader took little time to let it be known that there was going to be no alliance without her party getting a fair deal in terms of seat-sharing in the allimportant state of UP. Mayawati’s genetic aversion to dealing with Rahul Gandhi was on show once again when she downgraded her party’s presence at the Congress president’s iftar party. The lowkey response from other regional satraps, too, did not go unnoticed. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the other day, gave out hints of what exactly he had in mind about working with the Congress. Akhilesh put it across rather bluntly that Congress did not fit into the narrative of his and other parties to take on Modi in 2019, virtually ruling out an alliance. His party could, at best, refrain from fielding candidates against Rahul and Sonia, which it never did in the past, any way. From his citing the Dalit, Muslim narrative, it was apparent that Akhilesh was not just talking about UP, but in terms of a national template. The growing isolation of the Congress was in full evidence when almost all the non-Congress Opposition parties pledged their support to the cause of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who is engaged in a do-or-die battle with the mighty Modi, operating through the Lt-Governor as his proxy. Failing to read the larger political content of Kejriwal’s seemingly mundane drama, the Congress took a contrarian view, thanks to the compulsions of local politics. The Congress stand, which sounded inexplicable to most Opposition leaders, reinforces the possibility of the non-Congress parties going ahead with the narrative Akhilesh Yadav spoke of in no uncertain terms. A makeshift alliance on the basis of election results is one thing, but forging a pre-poll alliance is quite another. In a Karnatakatype situation, the enemy was present in flesh and blood, while, in a pre-poll alliance, it appears only as an apparition, which is much more difficult to fight. And this is the daunting challenge that the Opposition is facing in taking on Modi in 2019.

It is not going to happen: Huma Qureshi on chances of #MeToo movement in Bollywood

www.sunvillasamachar.com

Hollywood - Bollywood Alia Bhatt had a big fall, but that didn’t stop her from shooting with Sanju Alia Bhatt was shooting for a scene with Varun Dhawan and Sanjay Dutt and is on a tight schedule.

Mumbai: Actor Huma Qureshi believes the #MeToo campaign worked in Hollywood because a lot of senior female actors came forward with their stories of sexual harassment, something which has not happened in the Hindi film industry. The campaign, which sparked off a movement in Hollywood late last year, top actors like Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, along with people from other walks of life shared their stories of sexual abuse. In contrast, only a handful of Bollywood stars have spoken about sexual harassment prevalent in the industry and that too without taking any names. Asked if it was disheartening that the movement never arrived in Bollywood, Qureshi told PTI, “It’s not going to happen (in Bollywood) and the reason is, it worked in Hollywood because a lot of senior and respected actresses spoke about it. “That’s what really gives the #MeToo movement a lot of momentum. I really hope and pray it happens in India.

Mumbai: ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ stood on the stairs. Alia Bhatt had a big fall. We all grew up with the story of Humpty Dumpty, but the team of ‘Kalank’ seems to have witnessed it with their eyes as their own ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ actress Alia Bhatt fell down the stairs over the

weekend, injuring her foot. This is nothing uncommon for Alia, who has almost always injured herself on movie sets. In fact we think she might just be making a new record of the same, as she had injured herself not only during the promotions of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ (leg again) but also

sprained her shoulder on the sets of ‘Brahmastra’, which she is shooting for simultaneously. “She is also juggling the shoot of ‘Brahmastra’ with Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan so she can’t take a break. She has been resting in between shots so the injury is not aggravated,” a

source told Mumbai Mirror. Alia Bhatt was shooting for a scene with Varun Dhawan and Sanjay Dutt and is on a tight schedule. Sanjay Dutt is also in the news for his biopic ‘Sanju’ which is set to release on 29th of this month and stars Alia’s boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt.

The actor is yet to shoot for the movie in 10 days, which he is finding tough to dedicate before December.

Akshay Kumar gives Housefull 4 and other films priority over Kesari Mumbai: Akshay Kumar is often recognized for his punctuality and commitment. The actor, who does 4 films in a year, moves on from one film to another. But trouble seems to have come his way after ‘Kesari’ sets got burnt. Now the actor is yet to shoot for the movie in 10 days, which he is finding tough to dedicate before December.A source told Mid-Day, “Akshay Kumar will be travelling to London first and then to Rajasthan for the shoot of ‘Housefull 4’. Post that, he will

also be busy with the promotions of ‘Gold’. In the midst of this, it will be difficult for him to take out 10 straight days for ‘Kesari’ shoot.” “There will be no significant delay in any case. A makeshift set has been erected where Akshay will shoot the patchwork scenes till the month-end. The movie will simultaneously be in post production. Since major part of the footage is already available, the post-production work on it could begin right away,” adds the source.

KanganaRanautgoesonshoppingspree amidst Mental Hai Kya shoot Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut, who is all set to be seen in ‘Manikarnika’ soon, has begun shooting for her next, ‘Mental Hai Kya’ with Rajkummar Rao. The two, along with their crew, is currently shooting for the film in United Kingdom, where Kangana has currently gone on shopping spree. Her team shared a photo of her and a friend with shopping bags in their hands, captioning it, “Let’s have some shopping smiles!! #KanganaRanaut spotted shopping in #London in between her #MentalHaiKya shoot. We say the breaktime is being perfectly utilized :p” Kangana can be seen dressed in a chic plaid skirt and a matching jacket with a baby pink top and hair left open, the sun kissing her

Local corporator demands a city flyover to be named after Sridevi

Janhvi dances on Arjun song, Anil calls Shanaya India’s Catherine Zeta-Jones

Mumbai: Janhvi Kapoor is all set to unveil her ‘Dhadak’ title song tomorrow, for which every music lover is waiting with bated breath. A day before doing so, a video of her dancing on step-brother Arjun Kapoor’s debut movie ‘Ishaqzaade’s song ‘Jhalla Wallah’ has gone viral. The song had seen Gauahar Khan dance with Arjun, and Arjun’s steps had become talk of the town. Meanwhile, Maheep Kapoor randomly posted a photo of her children Shanaya and Jahaan Kapoor. On this, her

brother-in-law Anil Kapoor commented “India’s answer to Catherine Zeta-Jones” Now that become controversial because Catherine aspired to become an actress since a young age (we’re unsure what Shanaya wants to do yet, but maybe we do know where she will end up) and Catherine recently made a comment that she’s sick of apologizing for being rich and gorgeous, which especially has caught our attention. Guess with time, we’ll get to see Shanaya on screen too.

Mumbai: Sridevi left for the heavenly abode in February at her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Dubai, and today, four months later, her absence is still felt amongst her admirers. In his letter to the mayor, BJP corporator Yogiraj Dabhadkar, who is also the chairman of the K west ward committee, has said, “A flyover on Mogra nullah near Celebration Club at Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri west, should be named ‘Abhinetri Sridevi Udanpool” in memory of the renowned actress. If the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) accepts the demand made by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator, the flyover on Mogra nullah at Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri may well be named after deceased Bollywood actress Sridevi, who passed away in February this year while she was abroad.

international British-Bangladeshi man ‘plotted to kill PM in suicide attack’

London : A 20-year-old British-Bangladeshi Islamic State fanatic plotted to kill Prime Minister Theresa May in a daring suicide attack at her Downing Street office here, a UK court was told today. Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman, who is charged with preparing acts of terrorism, was arrested on November 2 last year. Rahman planned to detonate an explosion at the security gates of Number 10 Downing Street before stabbing the Prime Minister, it is alleged. On the opening day of his trial, the jury was told how Rahman was snared in September last year, during a chat on a messaging app with an MI5 operative, who was pretending to be a man called Amir in Syria. The MI5 is UK’s domestic counterintelligence and security agency. The trial at London’s Old Bailey was also told that Rahman believed he was “just days away” from the attack before he was arrested in November last year.

Donald Trump threatens to impose additional USD 200 billion in tariffs on China; Beijing vows to retaliate

US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on an additional USD 200 billion worth of Chinese goods unless Beijing ceases its “unfair practices”, escalating a trade war between the world’s two largest economies that jolted the global stock markets. Trump, pursuing his ‘America First’ policy, has been insisting that China has been unfairly benefitting from a massive trade imbalance with the US, now estimated to be USD 376 billion. During the 2016 election campaign, he had promised to use tariffs to cut the US trade deficits. The White House said that if China goes through with its promise to retaliate against the US tariffs announced last week, the United States will impose tariffs on an additional USD 200 billion worth of Chinese goods. “Further action must be taken to encourage China to change its unfair practices, open its market to United States goods, and accept a more balanced trade relationship with the United States,” Trump said in a statement yesterday.

China’s Xi Jinping praises North Korea’s Kim Jong Un for Donald Trump summit, promises support

Beijing : Chinese President Xi Jinping offered high praise to visiting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday, lauding the “positive” outcome of his historic summit with US President Donald Trump and promising unwavering friendship. Meeting Kim on his third trip to China this year, and just a week after Kim met Trump in Singapore, Xi said China was willing to keep playing a positive role to promote the peace process on the Korean peninsula. Kim’s visit was the latest in a flurry of diplomatic contacts, and unlike during his previous two visits to China, the government announced his presence while he was in the country rather than waiting for him to leave. Xi told Kim that he was very happy to see the “positive” outcome of his meeting with Trump, and the important consensus reached on denuclearisation and setting up a lasting peace mechanism, according to Chinese state television. “No matter the changes in the international and regional situation, China’s party and government’s resolute position on being dedicated to consolidating and developing Sino-North Korea relations will not change,” the report cited Xi as saying. “The Chinese people’s friendship for the North Korean people will not change, and China’s support for socialist North Korea will not change,” Xi added. Kim told Xi he hoped to work with China and other parties to push the peace process, Chinese state television said.
