Opening of bridge coincides with birth anniversary of ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee under whose govt work started in 2002.

PM Modi opens country’s longest rail-road Bogibeel bridge in Assam

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday opened the Bogibeel bridge, country’s longest railroad bridge in Assam’s Dibrugarh. The opening of the bridge coincides with the birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee under whose government the work started in 2002. The Prime Minister, who reached Dibrugarh in the afternoon from New Delhi, flew directly to Bogibeel in a chopper and dedicated the 4.94-kmlong double-decker bridge to the nation from the south bank of the river.

After greeting people, standing on the foothold of his vehicle, PM Modi deboarded the car and walked a few metres on the bridge along with Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Constructed for

Double Line Broad Gauge Track and three-lane road, this bridge will be the lifeline of the north eastern part of the country and will facilitate connectivity between south bank of the Brahmaputra river in Assam’s Dibrugarh district with Silapathar

in Dhemaji district, bordering Arunachal Pradesh. The biggest advantage of the bridge will be easy movement of troops from southern to northern bank. This means travelling to the farthest most point of India’s border with China will be shortened by several hundred kilometres. Pointing out that the Centre gave utmost importance to this Bridge Project by declaring it a national project in the year 2007 thereby assuring availability of fund for speedy construction, sources in the Northeast Frontier Railway said.

Congress chief said ‘BJP-vetted’ questions is a superb idea, but party should also ‘consider vetted answers’.

‘Vanakkam Puducherry’: Rahul jibes at PM Modi over struggling middle-class New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reportedly ignoring a BJP worker’s question on the middle class’ struggle with the taxation policy, saying forget a press meet, he cannot even hold a poll booth workers conference. Gandhi was apparently referring to an incident that took place last week during PM Modi’s interaction with “booth workers” from northern districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He also

said “BJP-vetted” questions is a superb idea, but the party should also “consider vetted answers”. The Congress chief cited a media report that claimed Prime Minister faced embarrassing moments during his interaction with BJP workers from Tamil Nadu when a worker sought to know why his administration was busy collecting taxes from the middle class but not interested in taking care of them. The report claimed that the PM Modi during his video interaction

Speaking on the occasion, he expressed happiness at Kankaria Carnival emerging as a tourist attraction, with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation providing entertainment to the poor, after fulfilling its duty of providing street light, water and gutter. UP govt failed to create jobs, address farm distress: Akhilesh Lucknow : Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has failed to create job opportunities for the youth and ensure remunerative prices for crops to farmers. He claimed that people belonging to all sections of society were facing problems. “Debt-ridden farmers are committing suicide. The future of the youth is in dark. BJP is out to crush the dreams of the young generation,” Yadav said at a programme in

Lucknow on Monday. He said employment opportunities have dried up as the present government in the state has not been able to provide jobs to the young. Referring to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Yadav

said, “The chief minister does not like even a little bit of opposition.” He said students who raises their issues “are sent jail” and even girl students are subjected to police action. Last year, a group of students, including two girls, associated with the student wing of the Samajwadi Party had blocked the convoy of Adityanath in Lucknow and showed him black flags. They were detained and sent to jail. A court granted them bail after 20 days.

chose not to answer the question raised by the worker and continued with his interaction by switching to Puducherry. Taking a jibe at the prime minister, Gandhi tweeted: “Vanakam Puducherry! That’s NoMo’s answer to the struggling middle class. Forget a press conference he can’t even string together a polling booth worker’s conference.” On reports that the BJP will filter questions from workers to Prime Minister Modi following the incident, Gandhi said.

A step closer to a single standard GST rate

India’s most ambitious tax reform in decades is approaching a semblance of its original intent: a nationwide, uniform low-tax regime. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council last week reduced tax rates on 22 items, of which seven were from the highest slab of 28%, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestions to ensure 99% of items attract 18% or lower GST, leaving merely luxury and demerit goods or services in the 28% bracket. That the council could not do more at this juncture—cement and automobile components still remain in the highest tax slab—is understandable, given the prospects of losing ₹33,000 crore in tax revenue. In the event, the council settled for changes in tax rates that are expected to have a ₹5,500 crore revenue impact in 2018-19. With this, the centre and states have moved a step closer to the ideal of a single standard rate GST. Finance minister Arun Jaitley hinted on Monday that the 12% and 18% slabs could eventually be merged. Jaitley deserves much of the credit for pulling the states along in this mammoth endeavour and, as reported in this newspaper, his efforts at driving consensus are nowhere near flagging. Mint had reported that the centre proposes to extend the compensation to states for any shortfall in revenue because of the switch to the GST for three years beyond the five originally envisaged. The 15th Finance Commission will draw up the transfer mechanism till 2025 in an effort to ease building consensus in the GST Council, a daunting task at the best of times. This assurance, beyond the one provided constitutionally, will help the states shed any lingering reservations over losing their fiscal freedom and about the superiority of the noncascading tax that is expected to bump up India’s economic growth once the creases— the GST Council at its latest meeting decided on the date for a new return-filing system and agreed to set up a centralised advance ruling authority—have been ironed out. West Bengal finance minister Amit Mitra, not a supporter of the National Democratic Alliance government at the centre, admitted as much, stating that the council’s decisions were rational, keeping in mind the fiscal reality. The simple expedient of collapsing the GST rates and reducing its tax and compliance burden on the economy draws down a considerable amount of political capital to be made from opposing the new indirect tax regime.

Kartik and Sara to star in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2?

Digital no threat to cinema, asserts Shah Rukh Khan

Mumbai: With Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Kartik Aaryan has suddenly discovered stardom in 2018. With it comes the burden of sustaining and furthering his stardom. Hence we have stories at regular periods of the newest entrant into the 100-crore club’s mighty conquests. These include refusing a Karan Johar film and more recently saying yes to an Imtiaz Ali film. Apparently, that’s not quite the truth. It all started when on Karan Johar’s talk show Sara Ali Khan

admitted she wanted to date Kartik Aaryan. It was an off the cuff flippant remark, not to be taken seriously. From there the spin-doctors got into action. However, sources close to director Imtiaz Ali completely trashed the idea of a sequel to Love Aaj Kal. “Where did this come from? I don’t think Love Aaj Kal has any potential for a sequel. Imtiaz has entirely different plans altogether and neither Sara nor Kartik features in any of it.”

Mumbai: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan who has ruled the film industry is not threatened by the digital platform. The extremely intelligent actor believes that irrespective of whatever new comes in, the cinematic experience will never fade away. Replying to a question on whether digital space going strong would pose a threat to cinema, he says, “No not at all! People mistake it for a big screen experience. It’s not a big screen experience, it’s a community experience. And community experience in a country

Acting is not my calling, direction is: Kangana

Mumbai: Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, is one movie that has been in news ever since it was announced. The period film, stars Kangana Ranaut in the titular role and it is co-directed by Krish and Kangana, has substantial buzz surrounding its release, thanks to its mammoth scale and a mass-appealing subject. The trailer of the movie has caught the attention of one and all people cannot stop raving about it. Another thing that has been the talk of the town is that Kangana Ranaut has donned the hat of co-director with this movie. Kangana is one of the few actresses that we have in Bollywood that have carried

the weight of the entire movie on her shoulders and emerged victorious. Her performance in movies such as Fashion, Queen and Tanu Weds Manu franchise has won her many accolades. Talking about her experience as a director, Kangana said, “I always wanted to direct films. These days, you generally hear of directors wanting to be actors, and not the other way around. Even those actors who direct don’t really do it fulltime. They feel that they have got a certain amount of acclaim and popularity as actors, so why should they give that up and only direct films.

before and I can’t even cover it at this point,” Kim’s tweet read “It’s taken over my body. Has anyone tried a medication for psoriasis & what kind works best? Need help ASAP!!!” the tweet further read. The tweet came post the TV star shared a Christmas holiday card on social media. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas get The Simpsons treatment New Delhi : Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ wedding was one of the biggest celebrity wedding stories this year. Ever since they were first spotted together, the rumour mill had begun its job, and after a series of denials, the couple engaged and then married earlier this month. The wedding generated considerable attention in the media across the world for its opulence and for the presence of who’s who of the Indian and American film industries. And now, it seems the couple has become big enough to get The Simpsons treatment. Priyanka Chopra has shared artwork of she and Nick as characters in The Simpsons. The two have been given a perfect Simpson look with protruding upper lips. On her Instagram account, Priyanka uploaded two photos. One shows the couple standing together as a married couple in the traditional Hindu wedding garb and all the accompanying jewellery as the Simpson family looks on. With films needing more than a week to rake in the shekels especially for larger budget films, the release date issue has the makers in a conundrum.

Saina Nehwal biopic: No release date yet for Shraddha starrer

Mumbai: The Saina Nehwal biopic starring Shraddha Kapoor is on floors and come January the cast and crew will start shooting its badminton portions. However, the filmmakers — director Amole Gupte for producer Bhushan Kumar — are wondering on a release date for the film in a highly packed 2019. With films needing more than a week to rake in the shekels especially for larger budget films, the release date issue has the makers in a conundrum.

“The makers are trying to work out an apt release date in the second half of the year which is already very packed. Honestly, there is no good date when the film can be released this year and the makers may need to look for a release date in 2020 if they want a long rally for the film. There are only 52 weeks in a year and 26 in the second half. Big films like Kabir Singh, Good News, Bharat, Batla House, Mission Mangal, Made In China, Chhichhore, Marjaavan,

Housefull 4, Taanaji and Panipat apart from a Hrithik Roshan film for YRF and a Remo D’Souza film for T-Series are also on the anvil,” says a trade source. The Saina Nehwal biopic has been having its share of issues since the very beginning. It all began with Shraddha having troubles in getting into the act to play the role of the shuttler. “It was all about the grip of the shuttle to the moves that she made in the court. Everyone has a different

like India will never fade away.” “We, as a set of people, are a community. The screen has to be big because a lot of people are coming and sitting. It may change its format, it may not come every week, it may come every three months. The formats of how it is shown will change, but cinema will remain because the community remains,” the Raees actor reiterates. Zero, the film in which Shah Rukh Khan was recently seen as a dwarf, did average business at the box office.

Indian football team yet to get new kits for AFC Asian Cup: Report

India kick-off their campaign in the AFC Asian Cup against Thailand on January 6 with matches against hosts UAE and Bahrain scheduled for January 10 and 14 respectively. New Delhi: India are the first team to reach United Arab Emirates (UAE) to try and acclimatise with the conditions in the Middle East prior to the start of the AFC Asian Cup. But their preparations are not going as smoothly as the players would have liked with the team reportedly yet to get their kits for the pretournament friendlies. It remains uncertain which kit the team would use in their friendly against Oman on Thursday. There are further reports that the fixture would be played behind closed doors. The kits are to be provided by Six5Six, a Gurgaonbased sportswear brand, which replaced Nike as the team’s official merchandise manufacturer in October this year. The five-year deal was facilitated

by Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), marketing partner of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Indian team arrived in Abu Dhabi on December 20 with their old travel gear and are expected to get their new match kit only on the eve of their friendly against Oman on December 27. The report by Times of India quoted sources saying the training kit has started arriving in batches but some were ill fitting while some have the same numbers. “There is no reason for creating unnecessary controversy. Some of the kits have already been received and by Tuesday the players will have all the kits with them,” AIFF secretary general Kushal Das was quoted as saying by the media outlet.

Virat Kohli has urged the Indian batsmen to step up and make themselves count in the third Test vs Australia after drab showings in Adelaide and Perth.

Batsmen have to stand up, bowlers can’t do anything with totals we’ve been putting up, says Kohli

New Delhi: Virat Kohli had a message for his compatriots on the eve of third Test against Australia with the skipper calling out the batsmen to step up and make themselves count. In an effort in the opening two Tests where the Indian bowlers have stood out and the batsmen have been unable to go past 307 runs, Kohli says the batsmen have to match the bowlers if India are to succeed with the series locked at 1-1. The third Test of the series gets underway on December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Bar Virat Kohli’s 123 in the second Test at Perth and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 123 and 71 in the first Test at Adelaide, none of the other batsmen have made a difference. The bowlers on the other hand have been able to dismiss Australia in each

of the four innings. “It is very important for batsmen to stand up, because as everyone can see, our bowling has been performing really well. Otherwise, the bowlers won’t be able to do anything with the totals that we have been compiling,” skipper Kohli said on

The capital infusion exercise will be completed by March 31, 2019. It also includes Dena Bank, which is not just fall under PCA but also barred from lending money. Dena Bank will soon be merged with Vijaya Bank and Bank of Baroda, which, however, will not get any infusion. However, last fiscal’s largest recipient IDBI Bank will not get any fund this time as the LIC will soon take over it.

Saurashtra under any sort of pressure in the second essay. At the end of third day’s play, the lead had swelled to 221, that included the 46-run lead, and they have five wickets left. The back room staff would have certainly taken note of all calculations, must have spoken about the risk if wickets fell early. Mumbai will look to add a few more runs on the final day before asking Saurashtra to bat again.

In December 2017, Indorebased Ruchi Soya Industries entered the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process

delays in resolution process, which is leading to deterioration of the assets. The company has asked the RP why should it buy the deteriorated assets at the same price, they said, adding that the process was getting delayed as Patanjali moved to the NCLT Mumbai challenging the lenders’ decision. When contacted, SK Tijarawala, the spokesperson of Patanjali that stood second in the bidding process, said it is interested in acquiring Ruchi Soya. Yes, we are interested. If we are allowed, then we are ready for the takeover of Ruchi Soya as it is,” he told. Patanjali has written to the commitee of creditors (CoC) that it would match the offer. New RBI governor should follow his “dharma” to protect autonomy: Rangarajan

Mumbai: Shaktikanta Das is not the first bureaucrat to be appointed as RBI governor and should follow his “dharma” to protect RBI’s autonomy like his predecessors, former central bank Governor C Rangarajan said Monday. Das should work closely with the government on all the pressing issues, Rangarajan said. “Many Delhi men (bureaucrats) have come to RBI, this is not the first time. Once they take on new responsibility, they have to defend the autonomy of the Reserve Bank,” Rangarajan told PTI on the sidelines of an event at

Mumbai The intention to go on an all-out attack was pretty clear and it seems Mumbai was ready to take this gamble. After all they didn’t have a choice — to qualify for knockout stage they have to win all their games. They had just about restricted Saurashtra to 348, after the tail had wagged. Mumbai managed a first-innings lead of just 46 runs, so they needed some quick runs to put

Rs 83,000 crore banks recap exercise to start next week

New Delhi: The government will start disbursing fresh capital infusion to PCA banks from next week out of the total amount of Rs 83,000 crore. Almost all such banks are expected to receive funds to shore up their tier-I capital but the quantum of the recap would be linked to the reductions they have been able to manage on their NPAs and the improvements in the return on assets, official sources said. It (capital infusion in banks) will start next week onwards, in the first week of December, we already had completed recognition and accounting for nonperforming assets in the PSBs …. all PCA banks

the eve of the third Test. “If we are batting second, we will try to take the lead or get as close to the opposition total as possible. If you equal a big score, then it becomes a second-innings’ match and if you take a good first-innings lead, then you can capitalise on that. ”

the IGIDR here. He added that this is the “dharma” which former Governors including himself as also D Subbarao have spoken about in the past. “I do hope that he is able to work out a better understanding between the Reserve Bank and the government without sacrificing in any way the autonomy of the RBI,” he added. Rangarajan, who has also headed the prime minister’s Economic Advisory Council, said there is also a need for the Central Statistics Office (CSO) to disclose a few essential details on the recent change in GDP computation.

“CSO is a reputable organisation and it has to come out very clearly as to the methodology it actually adopted in revising the earlier numbers,” he said. Rangarajan said there are questions about the deflator that has been used and also on data on company affairs. He was speaking after the release of Dilip Nachane’s book. The former RBI Governor seemed to suggest that the RBI can look at accommodating other factors if the headline inflation is down. “As so long as you are within the comfort zone, you can look at other objectives.

India with Rohit at number six. Rahul and Vijay had scored 97 runs between themselves in the two Tests with Rahul recording individual scores of 2, 44, 2 and 0, while Vijay had notched 11, 18, 0 and 20. In the 26 innings that they had batted in, the pairing scored mere 543 runs at an average of 20.88. Indian team management’s decision to include Agarwal in the Test team is backed by his solid display in domestic cricket. The 27-year-old Karnataka batsman has 3599 first class runs at an average of almost 50 with eight hundreds and 20 fifties in it.

RBI to soon release new Rs 20 bank note

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon introduce a new Rs 20 currency note with additional features, according to a document of the central bank. The central bank has already issued new look currency notes in the denominations of Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, and Rs 500, besides introducing Rs 200 and Rs 2,000 bank notes. The new look notes are being introduced since November 2016 under Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. These are different

in size and design compared to the notes issued previously. The currency notes, except for banned Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, issued under old series continue to remain legal tender. According to the RBI data bank, there were 4.92 billion pieces of Rs 20 note in circulation as on March 31, 2016. The number more than doubled to about 10 billion pieces by March 2018. The Rs 20 notes accounted for 9.8 per cent of the total number of currency notes in circulation at the end of March 2018.

New Delhi: Event Consultation and Event Management are two terms which we very frequently come across and quite often use them interchangeably assuming that they mean the same. Anjali Gupta, Author -The Global Brand Stories CEO, Divine Ariel Consulting International Said: Do the words Research, Analysis, Planning, Managing and Execution mean the same? A big NO, right? That is exactly how and how much ‘event consultation’ and ‘event management’ differ. Event consultation basically refers to a team of well informed professionals who strategically create events for government organisations, corporate organisations or individual businesses in order to achieve maximum levels of end result in every form. They deliver 360 degree solution to all your event

problems. They play the axle around which everything else revolves. The first step with which EC would start is that they would build their team (depending upon the type and nature of event, having a new panel of team member or taking locals on board might differ). Having enthusiastic, energetic and eager professionals irrespective of their age or past years of experience makes a lot of sense as event in itself needs people from varied background. The belief that young individuals get along high energy and fresh ideas and vis -a -vis event could become their opportunity to learn and gain. Again this concept of hiring fresh people will needs the support from main client. The newness of the concept of event consultation and the history associated with it is very welcoming.

Event Consultation, Its Different!
