Ahmed Patel’s Rajya Sabha quest in jeopardy SS News | Ahmedabad

The signs were really ominous for Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel a day after he filed his nomination seeking a fifth term to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat, as the party’s chief whip in the state assembly , Balwantsinh Rajput, resigned as an MLA and was declared by the BJP as its third candi-

said it was high time such frivolous cases which violated the human rights of innocent was checked. This is a shift from the dominant judicial conception of women as victims who would silently suffer injustice rather than bring disrepute to their family by taking domestic conflict outside the four walls of the home. Going by the popular portrait, it is only the worst victim of abuse among women who approach the court for

On Thursday , the court broke away from the reigning perception to rule that in dowry cases, the account of the alleged victim need not be taken at face value, undercutting the innocence law enforcement agencies had so far assigned to complainants. It directed all states to set up family welfare committee (FWC) in each district and tasked them with testing the veracity of every dowry harassment complaint.

Is Bihar Grand Alliance dead? Amid the prevailing tension in the Bihar Grand Alliance, state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from his post on Wednesday even as he met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. Nitish Kumar’s decision to quit was taken at a meeting of JD(U) MLAs on Wednesday evening. The MLAs reportedly endorsed his decision to quit. The latest development will only widen the gap between the two parties. Meanwhile, with Nitish Kumar’s resignation, BJP’s Parliamentary Board is expected to meet today and discuss the Bihar political crisis as well. Nitish Kumar also said he had spoken to various Congress leaders, including party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the issue. “There are many Congress leaders in Bihar. We also asked them to find a solution to all this. So now I have decided to keep myself away,” he said, adding that his resignation has been accepted by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. In a major development, Nitish Kumar on Wednesday tendered his resignation from the Bihar CM’s post. The big development comes after Tejashwi said that Nitish never asked him to resign from the post of Bihar’s Deputy CM post. Speaking on the big political development, Nitish said, “I tried to keep the Grand Alliance intact but can’t work in this atmosphere.” Also, Nitish said that I asked Lalu to cite information on the alleged corruption matter. “I even spoke to Rahul Gandhi,” Nitish added. Nitish has made it clear that he will not compromise on the issue of corruption. Earlier, in the day, Tejashwi Yadav had claimed that CM Nitish Kumar never sought his resignation. Also, the Bihar Deputy CM claimed that Nitish Kumar wants RSS free India (Sangh mukt Bharat), according to ABP News. Moreover, talking to ANI, Tejashwi Yadav said,”Amit Shah had said he wants to see BJP in power in every state, so they are trying all means to break us.” “I was never asked to resign. It’s RSS-BJP which want to break the grand alliance, people can see through their conspiracy,” Tejashwi Yadav added. There were several media reports doing the rounds claiming that Nitish Kumar had asked Tejashwi to resign from the post of Bihar’s Deputy CM. The CBI had registered a corruption case against Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi and former Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Managing Director P K Goyal, and the wife of Lalu’s confidante Prem Chand Gupta, Sujata on allegations of awarding the tender for development, maintenance and operation of hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

Hollywood-Bollywood Angelina Jolie puts movies aside for cooking, cleaning up poop Agency | Los Angeles

Angelina Jolie has put movie-making on hold to become a better mom, take cooking classes and do ordinary tasks like picking up dog poop. In an interview with Vanity Fair released on Wednesday, the actress said life after splitting in September from husband Brad Pitt was focused on looking after her health and her children. “I actually feel more of a woman because I feel like I’m being smart about my choices, and I’m putting my family first, and I’m in charge of my life and my health. I think that’s what makes a woman complete,” Jolie said. Her latest film as a director, First They Killed My Father, about

the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, under which more than 1 million people died, had its premiere in Cambodia in February. It is due to be released globally and on Netflix in September. Apart from promoting the film, Jolie said she had no interest in working on another movie right now. She has primary custody of her six children with Pitt pending a final settlement of their divorce. “I’m just wanting to make the proper breakfast and keep the house,” she told Vanity Fair. “That’s my passion. At the request of my kids, I’m taking cooking classes. As I go to sleep at night, I think, ‘Did I do a great job as a mom or was that an average day? I’ve been trying for nine months to be really good at just being a homemaker and picking up dog poop and cleaning dishes and reading bedtime stories,” she said. “And I’m getting better at all three.”

Sushant Singh Rajput throws a birthday bash for Kriti Sanon. Here’s all that happened Agency | New Delhi

Akshay Kumar: Many heroes rejected it, I asked Neeraj Pandey with folded hands to give it to me Agency | Mumbai

Akshay Kumar was not the first choice of screenwriters Siddharth and Garima for their upcoming collaboration, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and they took the film’s script to a lot of other stars before the National Award-winning actor came on board. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Shree Narayan Singh, is about a couple hailing from a village in Uttar Pradesh whose marriage hits rock bottom after the wife, played by Bhumi Pednekar, refuses to defecate

in open and demands a toilet to be built in their house. The film’s trailer has largely received positive response for taking a stand against open defecation. Sharing with media persons about how Toilet: Ek Prem Katha happened to him, Akshay today said, “The writers brought the subject to me. I find it

surprising that this script had been doing the rounds of the industry for over four years. It went to a lot of heroes, a lot of people but nobody picked it up. I liked it and I asked Neeraj Pandey with folded hands to give it to me. Earlier, the film was named Sandaas Ek Prem Katha but later the title got changed.”

Sushant Singh Rajput is currently busy shooting for his upcoming film Chanda Mama Door Ke but when it’s your alleged beau’s birthday ‘party toh banti hai boss!’ So last night around 11PM, Sushant opened the doors of his house for all the members of Kriti Sanon’s upcoming film Bareilly Ki Barfi. Also present was Kriti’s sister Noopur Sanon. Post bringing in her birthday at midnight, the party continued till the wee hours. A source told indianexpress.com, “They may not discuss about their relation-

ship but the chemistry that they share is apparent. So when Sushant decided to throw a pre-birthday bash for Kriti, we weren’t surprised. It was a super fun night with friends and family. Both are busy but doing small things like this surely makes any girl happy!” Rumours about Kriti and Sushant being a couple started right after Sushant brokeup with his sevenyear-long girlfriend

and his co-star from Ekta Kapoor’s Pavitra Rishta, Ankita Lokhande. The two had in fact at many occasions even spoken about tying the knot in a royal Rajasthani wedding. However, around the time when Sushant started working on Aamir Khan’s PK, grapevine was abuzz about things going awry between the two. And soon the news about their separation shocked everyone.

In the different, yet quintessentially similar versions of Rahul and Raj, Shah Rukh Khan has come to epitomise the ideal lover for almost every Indian woman over the last 25 years. Those expressive eyes, which make confession of love every time they look at you, the stretched arms, which call you to a safe haven, and that smile, which is as much reassuring as it is a way to weaken your senses, Shah Rukh has been a carrier of romance on screen. But more than anything else, what the superstar has carried through his romantic films is the hope of a better something for the female characters he pursues on screen and also for the women, who have been watching him in the audience and perhaps have had a void in their real life romances.

Youth sensation Niti Taylor, who won hearts as Shivani in popular show Ghulaam, is all set to bid adieu to the show. Her character will soon be seen breathing her last. Though disappointed about the developments, Niti keeps a positive stance and said that the script demanded her exit. Any extra motivation to perform in Tests? Whenever I play cricket, at the international or first class level, I enjoy this game. I don’t need any extra motivation as far as cricket is concerned. I love playing this game, I love my batting. Whenever I get the opportunity to score some runs or do something on the field, I always like

that challenge and I am always very well prepared. I trust in my preparation and work hard on the same. Whenever there is a challenge, I am always up for it.Take on Pandya the batsman? I think he is a very good all-rounder. When it comes to his batting, he is trusting his strength. The way he was batting, I think that’s how he should be batting even going ahead. This was

the right situation for him, the way he bats. He could dominate the bowlers, he could play his shots. When he is playing with the tail-enders, that’s the way he should be playing. He has showcased that even at the highest level. Being an all-rounder it always helps because we need someone who can bowl 10 overs in a day if there is an opportunity. He is the perfect all-rounder for us.

Sri Lanka were left staring down a big task at hand after they lost half of their side before close of play on the second day of the first Test against India at Galle. They still trail India by 446 runs in the first innings after the visitors posted exact 600 runs, thanks to some big hitting from the lower order batsmen. The batsmen were troubled by the swing and pace by pacers

and later by drift and spin of the Indian spinners as it became difficult over after over to survive on the Galle pitch. Angelo Mathews held on to one end with an unbeaten 54 after surviving leg-before call when India reviewed and the ball was hitting the bails and was called “umpire’s call” which saved him. He grew in confidence and played some good shots, stepping out against the spinners and tak-

ing Sri Lanka to 154 for 5 at close. First, it was Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami who beat the outside edge of Sri Lanka batsmen and later it was the willy spinner R Ashwin who adjusted to the breeze to put accurate drift and spin on the ball. He bowled an 18-over spell before being taken out of the attack in the final over of the day and he should have had ended up with more than one wicket in the day. Ashwin kept the batsmen guessing about his delivery and induced edges of both the right and left-handed batsmen.
