Would have ordered to shoot intellectuals had I been home minister: Karnataka BJP MLA New Delhi : A BJP MLA in Karnataka has stirred controversy by stating that India faces “grave threat” from the intellectuals and that he would have issued orders to shoot them had he been the home minister, news said. Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, BJP MLA from Vijaypura, on Thursday said the intellectuals live on taxpayers’ money and then they raise Anti-army slogans. “Intellectuals live in this country and use all facilities for which we pay tax. Then they raise slogans against our Army. India faces grave danger from them. If I was Home Minister, I would have issued orders to shoot them,” Basanagouda said in Vijaypura on Thursday. This is not the first time that Basanagouda has made such remarks. In a public statement in Vijaypura on June

4 this year, Basanagouda had said about instructing all the corporators to work only for Hindus, who have voted for him, and not for Muslims. “I had said no to Muslims initially…I had instructed my people that those with topi (cap) and burkha should not come and stand in my office or beside me,” he had said. Basanagouda has served as an MP and as a Minister of State in the Vajpayee government. He had moved to JD(S) in 2010 before returning to BJP fold in 2013.

Mission Impossible Fallout review: The best Mission Impossible movie yet

New Delhi : There are few things in life more pleasurable than watching Tom Cruise do things. Even if he has been doing the same for 22 years. Really, it has been that long. When Ethan Hunt started out on the big screen (once there was a TV version), Bill Clinton occupied the White House and Boris Yeltsin the Kremlin. The latter two have been done and dusted, but Cruise is still saving the world clad in a leather jacket — without breaking a sweat, but often now showing a grey stubble. And this Mission: Impossible, his sixth, may be his best yet, offering not just action that sizzles but action we can largely

follow, happening to people we grow to care about. Leading that list of Fallout’s charismatic cast is, of course, Cruise himself, as the IMF’s (International Missions Force) Agent No. 1 who, as the film emphasises, puts “individuals” above “missions”. Or, as the film puts it, is the kind who “cares as much about saving one man as saving millions”. In a world of faceless targets and brute force, that makes him somewhat special, his boss Secretary Hunley (Alec Baldwin) tells him. It’s a smart move by writer-director McQuarrie, the first person to get to direct a second Mission.

An amazing fact about Pakistan PM candidate Imran Khan’s cars we bet you didn’t know!

New Delhi : Imran Khan’s rise from a cricket star to the Prime Minister of Pakistan will be much talked about for days to come on a global scale. And why not, the man’s been an incredibly popular personality and is quite revered as a brilliant orator as well. Unlike most cricket stars around the world, for example the likes of Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Imran Khan has been a little different when it comes to cars and motorcycles. One might expect a popular and financially blessed personality with celebrity status like Imran Khan would have some fancy and expensive set of wheels to go around in. However, you’ll be

surprised that Imran Khan does not have any cars in his name. The assets of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief were valued at over a billion last year. But even so, not one car in his collection. Imran Khan has been in the past seen in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. But we can’t confirm if it belonged to him or if it was a party car. Or it may have been a gift. Whatever it may be, the Prado is powerful SUV capable of off-road. Imran Khan has been in the past seen in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Manipur ‘encounter killings’: Supreme Court summons CBI director over delay in probe

New Delhi :The Supreme Court on Friday pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the investigation agency’s slow pace of investigation into the alleged extra-judicial killings by security forces in Manipur. The apex court directed the agency’s chief to appear before it on July 30 to decide what can be done to expedite the probe process. The Indian Army, Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police have been accused of fake encounter killings in 1,528 cases from 2000 to 2012 in the insurgency-hit state. Two weeks ago,

the top court had directed the CBI director to form a team of officers to conduct the probe. In April, 282 cases were referred to the Supreme Court for verification, prompting the bench to direct the Centre to distinguish those related to the armed forces, including the Army and Assam Rifles. Similarly, it had asked the Manipur government to examine and segregate the cases related to the local police. “The state of Manipur will examine these 265 cases and segregate the cases of Manipur Police. Similarly, the Union of India will examine

and segregate the cases related to the armed forces including Army and Assam Rifles,” the bench had said. Based on a public interest litigation, the Supreme Court in 2016 had ordered a thorough probe into the alleged killings, observing that the use of “excessive or retaliatory force” by the armed forces or police was not permissible in “disturbed areas” under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Acts (AFSPA). It also noted that “democracy would be in grave danger” if citizens were killed merely on suspicions that they were enemies of

the state. In its contention, the Centre said an internal enquiry had already been conducted by the Human Rights Division of the Army and the Defence Ministry. To this, the apex court had said that it did not possess accurate and complete information on each of the 1,528 cases over the last 20 years. The Army too had contested the Supreme Court’s decision, saying it cannot be subjected to FIRs for carrying out anti-militancy operations in insurgencyprone areas like Jammu and Kashmir, and Manipur.

Difficult days for diversity in the beautiful game

Priyanka Chopra’s Exit from Bharat Irks Salman Khan Who Vows to ‘Never’ Work With Her, Again

With a convincing victory on the grandest stage of them all, France has established itself as a footballing powerhouse. The overwhelming diversity within the French squad was evident for all to see. The German team that won the previous World Cup was also the most diverse in its history. France’s success was touted as a victory for European multiculturalism. But the debate about the provenance of the French team’s victory—many members of the French squad were of African descent—and the shock retirement of German footballer Mesut Özil from the national team, has brought forth the issue of racism and the rising tide of right-wing nationalism in Europe. Özil, a third-generation Turkish-German, faced massive criticism for his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in May, along with team mate İlkay Gündoğan. The episode overshadowed the national team’s preparation for the World Cup, and the pair was jeered by the home crowd in their final World Cup warm-up game in Leverkusen. These events might be reflective of a larger mood of Unbehagen, a sense of unease in a German society that saw the arrival of 1.2 million refugees and immigrants in 2015 and 2016. The controversy also raises questions about identity and acceptance for the many players of immigrant backgrounds in European national teams. The golden boy of French football, Kylian Mbappé, was born to a Cameroonian father and Algerian mother in the suburbs of Paris. These suburbs or banlieues are typically immigrant ghettos with high rates of poverty and crime, a consequence of deliberate urban policy to concentrate immigrant communities away from the city centre. These suburbs saw massive riots in 2005, a consequence of perceived economic despair and institutionalized racism. However these same banlieues also constitute one of the biggest pools of professional footballers in the world, a result of not only diversity, but also an extremely efficient network of footballing academies to scout and groom talent. In the recently concluded world cup, 16 players traced their origins to the greater Paris region, representing not only France, but also other countries ranging from Portugal to Morocco and Senegal. While certain European countries such as France, Belgium and Switzerland have been extremely successful in integrating immigrant communities into their footballing structure, there are notable exceptions. Italy, for instance, has a footballing system that is recalcitrant to change, echoing the mood of xenophobia pervasive in its society. The spectacular rise, and fall, of GhanaianItalian footballer Mario Balotelli is a case in point. The extremely talented but temperamental footballer has been repeatedly subjected to racial abuse from his own fans. Incidentally, Italy also failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years. A study on the performance of teams in the Uefa Champions League over a 10-year period.

Mumbai : Actress Priyanka Chopra’s exit from Bharat has left many surprised and perplexed. Reason? Director Ali Abbas Zafar took to Twitter this morning to confirm the actress’ decision to walk out of the project, but also hinted at her impending wedding with Nick Jonas. ”Yes Priyanka Chopra is

Mumbai : Two years ago, when Kareena Kapoor Khan was carrying her son, Taimur, she made heads turn with her maternity style. She also gave her inputs for nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar’s book Pregnancy Notes: Before, During & After. Now, as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador from India, the Veere Di Wedding actress is all set to spread awareness about good health among women and children. Says a source, “According to research, a majority of women, especially in the interiors of India, don’t know the basic dos and don’ts of pregnancy and the first few months post motherhood. So now, as part of the campaign, Kareena will be advising them on how to feed newborn babies and challenge practices that risk their lives as well as that of expecting mothers. She wants to tell everyone to take care of their girl child as female infanticide is a serious issue, too.” Bebo will soon travel to most of the tier II cities. “She will educate women about what safety measures they should take in the first six months post pregnancy. She will also deliver speeches on the kind of nutrition and diet they should follow,” adds the source. We hear that the actress is planning to visit one city every two months.

Suhana Khan’s all grown up, her selfie with heavy makeup is startling

has surfaced online, which shows the young lady wearing a lot of makeup. Her hair is left loose, but her brown lipstick and smokeyeye makeup are immediately noticeable. She is wearing a white T-shirt and is carrying a white handbag. The Instagram post is captioned: “Suhana Khan clicks a selfie with an all make up look , yay or nay.” Suhana has, of course, slowly but steadily been making her own space in the tabloid and paparazzi scene. Her pictures from her family’s Europe holiday were majorly followed on social media.

But has Chopra’s decision gone down well with Khan? If a report in BollywoodLife.com is to be believed, Chopra’s choice has irked Khan. A source has revealed to the portal that the Sultan star has “vowed to never work with Priyanka again.” For the uninitiated, Khan and Chopra reportedly had a fallout post Mujhse Shaadi Karogi when the actress refused to work in Sohail Khan’s production Main Aur Mrs Khanna (2009). Later in 2011, Sohail reportedly excluded the actress from his guest list of a party that he hosted during an international awards show. It was Arpita Khan who brought these two stars together and convinced her brother to bury the hatchet with Chopra.

Meghan Suhana Khan may still be a teenager but there is no escaping that she is a celeb in her own right. Her photos soon go viral and Bollywood watchers are keen to find out when she will enter the film industry. She may not have bagged any film yet, however, the prep for it seems to be on course. Her family, including father Shah Rukh Khan and interior designer mother Gauri Khan, routinely put up pictures of her, be it from a vacation abroad or from any of their many social outings in Mumbai. Now, a selfie of Suhana (who turned 18 this May)

no more part of @Bharat_TheFilm & and the reason is very very special, she told us in the Nick of time about her decision and we are very happy for her... Team Bharat wishes @priyankachopra loads of love & happiness for life,” Zafar’s tweet read. Even though he didn’t mention Priyanka’s “very, very special” reason, but the fact that he wrote that she informed them in “the Nick of time” was enough for the fans to fathom the hidden meaning. Chopra and Jonas made headlines when they walked at the red carpet of the 2017 Met Gala in New York together, and their subsequent multiple outings together. If the recent reports to be considered, Chopra and Jonas are engaged.

Mumbai : Birthdays are special for everyone. And so it is for Kriti Sanon, who cuts the cake today. However, at times she does feel that the birthday hoopla is a bit overrated, shares the actor. Why? Kriti replies, “Because you start getting this happy feeling — everyone makes you feel that this is your birthday week... But it just comes and goes so fast that you don’t even realise it.” That might be truer this time than in other years, as it’s a ‘working birthday’. “I’ve just come back from London after finishing a schedule of Housefull 4, and I have [just] one week before I start shooting for Luka Chuppi. So this one week will go all in the prep,” she says. Besides these, Kriti will also be seen in two more films, Panipat and Arjun Patiala. But it’s not all work and no play for the star. There was a pre-birthday bash, in fact. Kriti says, “I don’t remember when was the last time I celebrated my birthday on my own. But this time was different. It was (the 2017 film Raabta’s director) Dinesh Vijan’s birthday on July 26, so we just randomly thought of throwing a party together. It was like celebrating his special day and breaking into mine.” There’s another reason why this party was memorable. The actor, who’s just five films old in Bollywood, says, “Technically speaking, it can be called my first filmi party as I’ve not done this before (laughs). And I think it was fun. So today, I’m home relaxing, chilling and trying get over the party exhaustion.

Dhoni Pips Tendulkar & Kohli to be Voted Most Popular Indian Sports Personality

SPORTS ROUNDUP

Adil Rashid Slams Michael Vaughan, Says He Said ‘Stupid Things’ Earlier Too Michael Vaughan presented Adil Rashid with his first Test cap in 2015

New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has trumped Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar to be named the most “admired” sports figure in India. The survey was conducted by YouGov, which undertakes various polls and surveys in their online community of over 4 million people. And out of the various public figures in the final table, Dhoni

was the top sportsperson with an “admiration score” of 7.7%. On the overall table he was only bettered by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The legendary Sachin Tendulkar was next best with 6.8%, while Virat Kohli managed only 4.8%.Dhoni is the most successful India Test captain of all time, winning 27 games and

leading them to the No 1 spot in the ICC rankings in 2009 for the first time ever. Still playing in the ODI and T20I sides as a keeper batsman, his public spotlight shines slightly brighter than the retired Tendulkar, perhaps explaining the rankings. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is the current crown jewel of Indian cricket.

Take a tour inside Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s Mumbai home

Adil Rashid slammed former England captain Michael Vaughan for his comments after the legspinner was included in the 13-man squad for the first Test against India, to be played from August 1. Rashid said the excricketers’ views on his selection did not matter to him and there were a lot of former players who spoke ‘nonsense’ about the current England team players.

“When I mentioned at the start of the year I will not be playing red-ball cricket, he (Vaughan) tweeted something then. He was being controversial and saying his stupid things then too. A lot of people have got no interest in what he says. It is about getting people to like what he says. I don’t think he has an agenda against me. I played under and with him but sometimes ex-players come out.

Mumbai : When images of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s dreamy Tuscan wedding started circulating on social media last year, fans everywhere were taken by surprise. In times like today, when every step taken by celebrities gets documented on the internet, the two managed to pull off a secret wedding ceremony perfectly, while still letting their fans in on the action through social media updates once they were ready to share their joy with the world.

After their nuptials, the two moved into a seafacing apartment in one of Mumbai’s prime residential locations, Worli. We took to both of their Instagram accounts to give you a sneak peek inside their luxurious pad. With their adorable vacation selfies, dance-offs at weddings to working out together and supporting each other with heartfelt posts on the internet, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are one of the country’s favourite celebrity couples. After their dreamy nuptials,

the couple moved into a spacious rental apartment located in Worli that they’ve done up in a minimal yet cosy way. The celebrity couple leads quite a hectic life—after all, Kohli is the captain of the Indian cricket team and the face of several brands, and Sharma has her own production house to manage, apart from her busy schedule as a leading Bollywood actor. Their home seems like the perfect space to relax and enjoy some downtime with their friends and family.

India Lose 0-1 As Ireland Book Quarter-Final Berth New Delhi : The India women’s hockey team suffered a 0-1 loss to Ireland in their second Pool B match at the Lee Valley Hockey Center, London. By virtue of this win, Ireland became the first team to qualify for the Women’s Hockey World Cup quarter-final. Ireland also became the second lowest ranked team to qualify for the quarter-finals. Determined to build upon their surprise 3-1 triumph over USA, Ireland opened the scoring thanks to

a wonderful penalty corner routine, with Anna O’Flanagan angling the perfect deflection high into the Indian net in the 12th minute of the match. After conceding a goal in the opening fifteen minutes, India resorted to attacking options in the second quarter, creating multiple chances. But the Indian attackers failed to seriously threaten the goal occupied by Ireland shotstopper Ayeisha McFerran. India yet again had the better off Ireland

in the third quarter, creating multiple penalty corners but the continental champions of Asia failed to make the most of their opportunities. Although Ireland were forced deep into their own territory for much of the quarter, the team missed a glorious chance to score a second when Nicola Evans failed to connect with a terrific pass across the face of goal towards the end of the third quarter. India continued with majority possession in the

final quarter but failed to find the back of the Irish net time and again. In the final five minutes, India replaced goalkeeper Savita with an outfield player in an effort to get an equaliser but it did not yield any result. India captain Rani Rampal had a wonderful opportunity to give her side a share of the points in the 57th minute but her shot was confidently kicked away by goal-keeper McFerran to ensure Ireland’s victory.

Facebook Stock Disaster: How it Went so Wrong for Zuckerberg so Quickly

HCL Tech Q1 meets estimates, profit rises 8% sequentially to Rs 2,403 crore

Mumbai: India’s fourth largest IT services company HCL Technologies’ first-quarter profit rose 7.9 percent sequentially to Rs 2,403 crore, meeting analyst estimates. Analysts polled by Reuters, on average, expected the company to report a net profit of Rs 2,318.9 crore for the quarter ended June, and revenue of Rs 13,936.3 crore. The company reported a revenue of Rs 13,878 crore, 5.3 percent higher than in the quarter ended March 31. HCL Technologies posted revenue of Rs 13,178 crore and profit of Rs 2,230 crore in the previous quarter. It has announced a dividend of Rs 2 per share. This is the 62nd consecutive quarter of dividend payout by the firm. The tech major also announced a buyback programme aggregating Rs 4,000 crores for FY19 at a price of Rs 1,100 per equity share. HCL maintained its constant currency revenue growth guidance at 9.5 percent and 11.5 percent in FY19. In dollar terms, the company’s revenue for the first quarter was USD 2.05 billion, 0.8 percent higher than in the March quarter. Attrition in IT services rose to 16.2 percent in the first quarter from the 15.5 percent in the March-ended quarter. The company said it expects operating margins for FY19 to stay in the range of 19.5-20.5 percent, as it had said earlier. Operating margin during the first quarter was 19.7 percent same as the previous quarter. “We achieved highest ever bookings in this quarter led by our next-gen infrastructure services as well as Mode 2 offerings. Our combined Mode 2 and 3 offerings contributed 26.6% of our revenues and it grew 9.6% QoQ. We continue to invest in our next generation portfolio to help enterprises build their digital future,” said C Vijayakumar, President & CEO, HCL Technologies.

It has not been a good last few hours for Facebook. The social media network reported in the Q2 2018 earnings call that the revenue increased 42 percent to $13.2 billion, but that was still lesser than the Wall Street estimates of $13.3 billion. What has ensued is nothing short of a panic induced bloodbath. The company’s shares slid by more than 20 percent, which meant CEO Mark Zuckerberg lost as much as $16.8 billion immediately after the earnings call. Now, Facebook’s market value has slid by $119 billion to $510 billion, as the stock price fell by 19 percent. According to financial research firm FactSet, Facebook’s market cap was nearly $630 billion, before the plummet. This is perhaps a slightly delayed reaction to the controversies surrounding Facebook in recent months. The scandals are hurting the business. There is the combined impact of the Cambridge Analytica user privacy scandal, the political complication Facebook found itself in after details of Russian involvement in the

elections came to light, and the visits which the company CEO Mark Zuckerberg made to the Congressional hearings this year. At the same time, the social network is unable to rein in the spread of fake news and misinformation on its platform—but to be honest, WhatsApp and Twitter are also struggling with the fake news debate. This also means Facebook is spending a lot more on resources, to clean up the content being shared on the platform. While there has been a user backlash after Facebook’s controversies, the Facebook owned photo sharing network Instagram crossed the 1 billion user mark just last month. The other side of the coin sits WhatsApp, which has also been facing a lot of criticism for having been unable to rein in the spread of fake and violence inciting messages. In fact, WhatsApp right now is at loggerheads with the Indian Government, with the latter demanding stronger measures to control the spread of misinformation via the instant messaging app ahead of the general elections next year.

Life At Aditya Birla Group After Rs 1,00,000 Crore Of M&A In Two Years Mumbai: Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairman of the $44 billion Aditya Birla Group, is leading the charge to integrate acquisitions worth over Rs 1,00,000 crore ($14 billion) his companies have undertaken in the last two years. Group companies have since 2016 acquired the cement assets of Jaypee Group for over Rs 16,000 crore, initiated a merger with Vodafone, valuing the India arm of U.K.-based Vodafone Plc. at over Rs 80,000 crore, and today announced a near Rs 18,000 crore acquisition of Aleris Corp. Each of these transactions has been done with a purpose, said Birla in an interview to BloombergQuint. Each of them is value accretive, if not in the short-term, the medium-term for sure. And each of them takes the respective businesses a few steps forward in their overarching strategy, he added. The integration of the Birla-promoted UltraTech Cement with Jaypee Cement is complete, and is “beautifully done”, Birla said. The group will now face the herculean task of integrating its telecom venture, Idea Cellular Ltd., with that of Vodafone. The Department of Telecom approved the merger on Thursday. Idea is hopeful of completing the merger by the end of August as envisaged earlier, Birla said. The Aleris deal is expected to be completed by end of 2019 and it would take at least two years to bring in the estimated recurring synergies of over $150 million, Novelis said in a press briefing earlier today. But the acquisition spree is not over yet. Birla’s cement flagship UltraTech Cement Ltd. is currently pursuing Binani Cement Ltd., a company undergoing insolvency proceedings. “I think the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code could not have been timed better,” said Birla of the new law that has created multiple acquisition cum restructuring opportunities.

Actor Vrushika Mehta in Ahmedabad to promote the show

Ahmedabad : In our society, a person’s family background and upbringing are often given more importance over their abilities and accomplishments in life. In sync with its core philosophy Aaj Likhenge Kal and its endeavor to showcase stories depicting the spirit of Indian middle class rising above their circumstances and changing their destiny, Zee TV recently

launched a stimulating love story, Yeh Teri Galiyaan. Produced by Cinevistaas, Yeh Teri Galiyaan premiered on 25th July 2018 and airs Monday to Friday at 7 PM on Zee TV, bringing viewers the story of two innocent children Shantanu and Puchki being raised in Kolkata’s red-light district of Sonagachi. A beautiful friendship commences only to be forcefully separated by destiny. While the boy is raised away from Sonagachi and studies abroad, the girl grows up in the red light district and becomes a dance teacher for kids at an NGO. Will they, as adults, ever be able to unite as lovers or will the societal pressure of ‘background’ and ‘upbringing’ pose a hurdle in their path? The biggest love story of the year, Yeh Teri Galiyaan delivers a strong message about equal opportunities for commercial sex workers, or anyone for that matter, to rise beyond their reality, to envision and work towards a better future and be accorded dignity and respect. After all, it is the ‘route’ you choose and not your ‘roots’ that should matter! To promote the

show, actor Vrushika Mehta visited her hometown, Ahmedabad today. the campaign will be flagged off by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani from Bhuj on Friday. The campaign will continue till August 31 under which “remedial teaching” of three hours — two during school time and one after the school — will be imparted in government primary schools in 250 talukas of the state. The state Education

Department has prepared a special curriculum for these students and roped in 292 IAS, IPS and IFS officers who have been assigned responsibilities in their respective areas. “On the pattern of Gunotsav, they will visit their assigned schools in districts during the campaign. as a one-of-its-kind township exclusively for Japanese investors and a predominantly Japanese workforce. Prior to this, the Gujarat government had set up a dedicated industrial zone for Japanese ancillary units selling to the automobile sector at the Mandal industrial area near Vithalapur – 90 km from Ahmedabad. The first

step was taken way back in 2008 when the state government provided land to Tata Motors’ affordable car project -- the Nano -- at the Sanand industrial area near Ahmedabad, after the fiasco at Nandigram in West Bengal. Despite criticism from various quarters, about the price at which land was procured at Sanand and

about the incentives given to the group, Gujarat steadily moved towards its goal. Maruti Suzuki followed the Tatas and set up its car manufacturing unit at Sanand. The rest is history. At present, Gujarat has in its kitty companies like Suzuki Motors Gujarat (SMG), Honda Motor Corp, Ford, Shanghai Automobile

Industry Co-General Motors (SAIC-GM), and an array of Japanese automobile ancillaries. That apart, a host of other companies are in the pipeline, and firms like Tata TIAGO and Jindal South West (JSW) have readied plans to manufacture nextgeneration electrical vehicles in that state.

Vadodara : Ten members of a family in Kalol on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Panchmahal district collector seeking euthanasia alleging harassment by money lenders as the reason. In the memorandum, submitted by Girdhar Kudia on behalf of his wife, four sons and their wives, he has claimed that Jitendra Jaswani and Iqbalsha Diwan had lent Rs 30 lakh to his eldest son, Pankaj, at the time of demonetisation in 2016. However, Pankaj did not return the money and has been absconding since November 2017. Kudia has alleged that with Pankaj missing, the

money lenders are now demanding the money — Rs 1 crore — with a 30 per cent interest per month. According to the memorandum, Girdhar lived with four of his sons in Kalol, while Pankaj lived with his wife and two children — daughter (6) and son (3) separately and ran a garments business. After Pankaj went missing, Girdhar filed a complaint at Kalol police station but he remains untraceable. “Between December 9, 2017, and January 1, 2018, Jaswani and Diwan with eight of their aides, including five women, who were carrying sharp weapons, forced themselves inside

our house and told me about the loan (taken by Pankaj). They said that with a 30 per cent interest per month, the amount was now Rs 1 crore. They claimed that the house and Pankaj’s shop now belonged to them. They looted valuables from the house and threatened to kill us. We submitted a complaint against the eight persons at the Kalol police station on January 18 but an FIR has not been filed yet,” Girdhar stated. Seeking permission for euthanasia for the family, Girdhar stated that after their deaths, the family would want the government to look after the children.
