Our only aim should be to bring about a good change in Tamil Nadu: Rajinikanth tells fans Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday addressed his fans in Tuticorin via video link. Explaining the simple and core principles of his yet-to-be-formed political party, Rajinikanth said the severing the common people without any personal motive will be the primary quality to join hands with him in his political endeavour.“Bringing a huge change in the politics of Tamil Nadu is our motive now. It’s a difficult task but if we work together with discipline towards our goal, we can achieve anything. Our thoughts and heart should be clean,” said the Thalaivar in his address to fans.“This is a social service and not self-service. We should work for the greater good of the public. Our only aim should be to bring about a good change in Tamil Nadu. We should do it without any personal expectations. When should set an example for other states and make them look at us in awe,” he added.

Hindi in Tamil Nadu: Stalin warns of ‘1965-like situation’, here is what the DMK chief means

On Friday, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) working president and leader of the opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly M K Stalin attacked the Centre for allegedly imposing Hindi and Sanskrit on the people of India. He went on to say that the Center’s policies are forcing the DMK to warm for a 1965-type stir in order to protect the Tamil language. In the 1960s, the DMK was undergoing a radical transformation in terms of its ideology. Gradually letting go of its hitherto anti-Brahmin stance, it had shifted focus towards Tamil consciousness, and pride in Tamil language and culture. The opposition to Hindi, therefore, would go on to become an intrinsic part of the party’s language politics, and the 1965 agitation would be its strongest manifestation. When Stalin indicated to the possibility of a 1965type stir, he was referring to one of the most powerful movements in support of Tamil linguistic pride in the state’s history. It all started with Section 3 of the Official Languages Act, 1963.

Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal released after paying settlement

Riyadh: Saudi Arabian billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, one of the kingdom’s top international businessmen, was released from detention on Saturday, more than two months after he was taken into custody in a sweeping crackdown on corruption. His release came hours after he told Reuters in an interview at Riyadh’s opulent Ritz-Carlton hotel that he expected to be cleared of any wrongdoing and be freed within days. A senior Saudi official said Prince Alwaleed was freed after he reached a financial settlement with the attorney general.“The attorney general has approved this morning the settlement that was reached with Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, and the prince returned home at 11:00 a.m. (08:00 GMT),” the official told Reuters, without giving details of the terms. The decision to free him, and the release of several other well-known tycoons on Friday, suggested the main part of the corruption probe was winding down after it sent shockwaves through Saudi Arabia’s business and political establishment. In his first interview since being detained, conducted hours before his release, Prince Alwaleed told Reuters he maintained his innocence of any corruption in talks with the authorities.

Padma award selection process transformed, common people being honoured: PM Modi

Prime NEW DELHI: Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said his government had transformed the process for selecting Padma award winners and common people were now being honoured because the emphasis was no longer on the name of a nominee, but on the work done. In the year’s first ‘Mann ki Baat’ address, PM Modi said the awards are being bestowed on people “who

do not live in big cities and are not visible in newspapers and TV”. “Making the (nomination) process online has led to transparency. The selection process for these awards has undergone a transformation,” he said. People were being honoured without a recommendation, he stressed in his monthly radio programme. “If you look at these winners, you will feel proud that such

kind of people live in society and will also naturally feel proud that they are getting this recognition without any ‘sifarish’ (recommendation),” he said. “Now the identity of the awardee is not the deciding factor of the a ward, rather the importance of his work is increasing,” he said. The prime minister also highlighted the works of some of this year’s winners, whose

names were announced on the eve of Republic Day, and said they should be invited to schools and colleges so that they could share their experiences and inspire others. He mentioned that this year’s Padma awardees include Lakshmikutty, a tribal woman from Kerala who prepares herbal medicines, and Arvind Gupta, an IIT Kanpur alumnus who inspired generations of

Kasganj violence: Both sides had Tricolour, fight was over right of way A top police officer said that violence started around 11 am, about an hour after Abhishek Gupta, 22, who was killed in firing between two groups during an unauthorised rally to mark Republic Day on Friday, was cremated. Kasganj violence: All you need to know

Fresh violence in Kasganj: Six held, prohibitory orders imposed

According to Kasganj Additional SP Pavitra Mohan Tripathi, police separated the two groups. However, he said, the rally participants regrouped and took a detour to reach Tehsil road, another Muslim-dominated area, where residents thought they had arrived to retaliate. “This triggered the shooting incident in which a 28-year-old man was killed,” said Tripathi. On Saturday evening, residents of Baddu Nagar said they were waiting for the situation to normalise before approaching police with their version.

NEW DELHI: Minutes before

an unauthorised “Tiranga Yatra” on motorcycles entered Baddu Nagar in Kasganj, triggering a communal clash, residents of the Muslimdominated locality had arranged chairs on the road and were getting ready to hoist the Tricolour on Republic Day, senior police officers and witnesses told.Members of the bike rally, however, demanded that the chairs be removed and a path cleared for them to move on, residents said. “They were shouting slogans, we requested them to let our celebrations finish first. But they were adamant and did not leave,” said Mohammed Munazir Rafi, a resident and advocate. Speaking to The Indian Express, IGP Dhruva Kant

Thakur, who reached Kasganj from Lucknow on Saturday morning, said, “Members of the Muslim community were about to hoist the national flag when the incident took place.” In the morning, I left home to attend the flag-hoisting ceremony at Kasganj court. When I returned, chairs had been arranged on the road for the Republic Day programme in our locality. Suddenly, a group of around 50-60 people arrived on bikes and started demanding that the chairs be removed. They were also shouting slogans,” he said. After the group refused to leave, said the advocate, an argument ensued. “We asked them to join the celebration. But many people had gathered and soon, there was some pushing and shoving.

The situation could have been sorted out but it ended in a big problem,” said an elderly resident who did not wish to be named. According to Rafi, a similar rally was organised on Independence Day last year. “But there was no problem as we had not put out chairs at that time. We are deshbhakts, and now we are being portrayed as deshdrohis. In the end, because of this situation, we could not hoist the Tricolour on Janaury 26,” he said.

Roger Federer fought off a fierce challenge from Marin Cilic to win the Australian Open in Melbourne for a sixth time. In doing so, he took his majors tally to 20.

In 2018, Roger Federer turns 20

Roger Federer took his Australian Open tally to six titles and his Grand Slam tally to 20 titles and in doing so, the Swiss legend matched one record and with the second, he extended his already stupendous number. He joined Novak Djokovic and Roy Emerson with a sixth Australian Open title and edged Rafa Nadal even further in the majors titles category by registering a 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Marin Cilic at a closed Rod Laver Arena. “I’m so happy , it’s unbelievable, it’s been a long day,” Federer said. “I’m happy it’s over now. The fairy tale continues for us,

for me, it’s incredible,” said an emotional Federer as he cradled the Norman Brookes trophy. At 36-yearsold, Federer’s title win further highlights the game is not bound by the age anymore – a notion of the past – even with the game getting significantly physical. To Federer’s credit, he has been careful and smart in choosing his calendar and the tournaments he plays ever since taking a six month injury break in 2016. He came back last year and won the Australian Open and then the Wimbledon – also against Cilic. With the win on Sunday, Federer has joined legendary Rod Laver.

Time has not come for any rethink on Constitution and Upadhyay cannot go together: Shashi Tharoor to PM Modi AFSPA: Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat thoughts in the same

NEW DELHI: Time has not come for any rethink on AFSPA or making some of its provisions milder, Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat has said, asserting that the Army has been taking adequate precautions in protecting human rights while operating in disturb areas like Jammu and Kashmir. Rawat’s remarks assume significance as they come against the backdrop of reports that several rounds of highlevel discussions have taken place between the defence and home ministries on the “need to remove or dilute at least some provisions” of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).The act gives the security forces special rights and immunity in carrying out various operations in disturbed areas. There has been a long-standing demand from various quarters in J-K and the Northeast to withdraw it.“I do not think time has come to even rethink on

AFSPA at the moment,” Gen Rawat told PTI in a recent interview when asked about reports that government was re-examining the demand for a milder version of AFSPA in these states. The Army chief said though AFSPA has certain strong provisions, the Army is concerned about collateral damages and ensuring that its operations under the law do not inconvenience the local people. “We have never been strong in applying the

force the way it could be applied (under AFSPA). We are very concerned about human rights. We are absolutely concerned about collateral damage. So do not get too much concerned because we are taking adequate measures and precautions,” he said.Gen Rawat said the Army has rules of engagements for various operations at every level to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the people while it is operating under AFSPA.

NEW DELHI: Taking a dig at Narendra Modi, politicianwriter Shashi Tharoor has said that while the prime minister describes the country’s Constitution as “holy”, he also hails Hindutva icon Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay as a “hero”, and asserted that the two stands cannot go hand in hand. Speaking at the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival, the 61-year-old Member of Parliament said there was a dire need for Hindus to stand up and recognise what was being done “in their name” and speak out

against it. “We need to call a spade a spade. We are living in a country where on the one hand the prime minister says the Constitution is his holy book and on the other hand he extols as a hero and instructs his ministries to study the works, writings and teachings of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, who explicitly rejects the Constitution and who shares that the Constitution is fundamentally flawed,” the former Union minister said. The two thoughts, he said, were contradictory. “You can’t have these two

sentence… To have it both and to be allowed by our public discourse to get away with it for so long seems to me somewhat troubling,” he said to thunderous applause from the audience at the packed front lawn, the largest venue at the iconic Diggi Palace where the festival is being held. Tharoor said Upadhyay believed the Constitution “rests on the flawed premise that the nation is a territory of India and all the people on it”. “Whereas he (Upadhyay) says that is not correct, the nation is not a territory, it is a people and it is therefore the Hindu people. Which means you need a Hindu nation, a Hindu rashtra and that is what the Constitution should reflect, which of course it does not,” he said.

Consuming Walnuts May Improve Mood In Young Men: Study

A recent study observed that walnuts may be the key to improve mood in young men. The research concluded that nondepressed healthy young males had a 27% reduction in overall mood disturbances after eating 2 ounces of walnuts every day for 8 weeks. The research conducted by Peter Pribis, a Professor at University of New Mexico in the US showcases the effects of walnut consumption on mood in young adults between the ages 18 and 25. While maintaining their typical diet and lifestyle habits, 64 men and women consumed half a cup of walnuts daily by eating three slices of banana bread for about four months, half the time eating bread that contained walnuts and half without. At the onset and after each phase of the study, participants answered a common questionnaire, also known as Profiles of Mood States (POMS), about key mood domains such as tension, depression, anger, vigor, fatigue and confusion. Speaking on this, Professor Peter Pribis said, “Our study was different because we focused on cognition, and in this controlled randomised trial (CRT),we measured mood outcomes in males and females. Profiles of Mood States is one of the most widely used and accepted mood scales in studies on cognition. Lower the Total Mood Disturbance score, better the mood!”While no significant change in mood of women was observed, a 31% decrease in anger-hostility was discovered among men.Professor Peter Pribis believes that walnuts are not only good for one’s mood, but overall health as well. He said, “In the past, studies on walnuts have shown beneficial effects on many health outcomes like heart disease, diabetes and obesity.” Researchers believe the improvement may have been due to the unique nutrient profile from walnuts specifically the alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) content. Walnuts are the champion of ALA, the plant-based omega-3 fatty acid, offering 2.5 grams per ounce (which equates to one quarter cup). However, larger and longer-term studies are needed to clarify the benefits, especially in other populations. Additionally, more clinical trials are needed to determine the optimal quantity of walnuts needed to improve mood. The California Walnut Commission, established in 1987, is funded by mandatory assessments of the growers. The Commission is an agency of the State of California that works in concurrence with the Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The CWC is mainly involved in health research and export market development activities.

What caught our attention was the newly-wed Anushka Sharma who sang on stage and performed on Band Baaja Baarat’s song Ainvayi Ainvayi along with Alia Bhatt.Talking about performance, how can we miss out on Ranveer Singh, the live wire of the industry. The actor, who is being showered

In one of the videos, we see him getting into a complete Mithun Chakraborty zone with Riteish Deshmukh. What we also noticed is the physical transformation Ranveer has undergone for his upcoming film Gully Boy.

Total: $ 59.14 million [Rs 376.09 crore].”Though this is not an out and out Aamir Khan film, his mere presence is enough to make the film a hit in the

country. The superstar’s popularity in China is incredible. This factor paired with a sweet, message oriented film and a decent screen space (Secret Superstar has managed to garner 6000 plus screens in the country), has helped the movie perform so well at the Chinese ticket window.

I

t was a moment as monumental as any in the history of Indian television but went by unnoticed. Film director Karan Johar and actor Kangana Ranaut’s names were taken together only to discuss scathing open letters or cold comments through the entirety of 2017 but on Saturday the two put all of their many differences aside to appear together on Star Plus’ new reality show, India’s Next Superstar. Even with no film scheduled for release anytime soon, Kangana was invited as a guest judge on Karan and director Rohit Shetty’s acting talent hunt show. Karan and Rohit welcomed Kangana on the show and praised her success in the industry. “I am a fan. But unfortunately she isn’t a fan of my work,” Karan said about Kangana as she took her seat next to him. Even Kangana praised Karan in a comment. “Karan sir ke aane se glamour nai aaega toh kaise aaega (If Karan will not bring the glamour, who will?),” she said. Karan replied, “Chalo Kangana ne itna toh kehdia ki glamour aata hai mere sath. Talent aae na aae. (At least Kangana agrees that I bring glamour, if not talent.)” Later in the episode, the trio took part in short skits in which Karan asked Kangana to pretend that Rohit was the ex lover whom she wants back in her life. Then Rohit asked Karan and Kangana to play a couple and recreate a scene from Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham.To refresh the viewers’ memories, the episode kicked off with a prelude to the long-raging fight between the actor and the director that was sparked off in February 2017 when he invited her on his talk show, Koffee With Karan. On the show, Kangana accused Karan of being the ‘flag bearer of nepotism’ and a ‘movie mafia’.Karan later reacted to her accusations in an interview by saying that she was playing the ‘victim card’ and ‘woman card.’ “I am done with Kangana playing the woman card and the victim card. I am done,” he had said during a session at London School of Economics. He even praised himself for ‘giving her a platform to speak’. “I was gracious enough to not cut anything and let it be that way. I could have edited it as it was my show. I cut none of it. I said, ‘No, let the world listen to her opinion and she must voice it’ I gave her the platform,” he had said.

Sports Special Referee Craig Pawson chalked off a West Bromwich Albion goal for offside, awarded Liverpool a penalty and checked VAR before awarding the Baggies’ crucial third.

VAR in the spotlight in Liverpool’s FA Cup loss to West Brom

New Delhi : English football’s embrace of VAR technology prompted the most contentious response yet after coming under fire from West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew following his side’s FA Cup victory at Liverpool on Saturday. The new video assistant referee system came of age in a dramatic fourth-round tie at Anfield, with the onfield review system used for the first time in England and the replay evidence widely perceived to have provided correct decisions.Yet despite his side’s 3-2 victory to make them the first

visiting team to win at Liverpool this season, Pardew was left dismayed by more than just how VAR made two key rulings against his side. He was not the only observer to be unimpressed by the “strange” atmosphere created in the stadium as the crowd, without a big screen to see for themselves, were left in the dark about the replays viewers could watch over and over on TV.Pardew also suggested the length of the reviews resulted in one Albion player suffering an injury as they hung around in the cold waiting for a ruling.Referee Craig Pawson chalked off an

Albion goal for offside, awarded Liverpool a penalty and checked VAR before awarding the Baggies’ crucial third, a Joel Matip own goal, as the video referrals dominated theatrically in the first half. Craig Dawson had seemingly headed Albion 3-1 ahead from a corner but VAR showed clearly that team mate Gareth Barry was interfering in play in an offside position. Amid a fourminute stoppage, Pawson used his pitchside monitor – the first time the on-field review has occurred in the English game – to change his mind and award a penalty to

Liverpool after a foul by Jake Livermore on Mohamed Salah. The fact that Roberto Firmino missed the resulting kick and that Albion went on to win thanks to Jay Rodriguez’s early double and the Matip own goal did not appease Pardew. “From the sideline, it was strange. It wasn’t what I’d like to see going forward,” Pardew told BT Sport.“We were struggling at the end because we ran out of bodies and the VAR system was a problem because I think we got a player with a hamstring injury because they were standing around for too long.

India vs South Africa: Dean Elgar Says The Third Test Should Have Been Called Off

South Africa opener Dean Elgar feels that the third and final Test against India should have been called off on the third day itself. He took a lot of blows en route his brave 86 on a treacherous Wanderers pitch but Elgar says it was not worth the risk. Elgar took a nasty blow on his helmet in the ninth over of South Africa’s second innings which forced early stumps on day three but the match resumed next day after deliberations between the captains and match officials. “I do think (it should have been called off earlier). On day three, the wicket didn’t play great. Batters got hit a hell of a lot of times. If there was a period to call it off, it was sooner,” Elgar said.Referring to Philip Hughes’ death in November 2014 due to a head blow, Elgar said: “We had an incident of being hit in the head, where we could have had an incident of what happened in Australia. People want to watch Test cricket but we are also human beings. “We are not just going to take blows

and accept putting our bodies on the line. The situation could have been addressed sooner,” he said. It was a Jasprit Bumrah delivery that hit Elgar under the grill after being pitched back of a length. Elgar said he had never experienced such uneven bounce at the Wanderers before and was happy to walk off the field after the umpire finally decided to call off play.“I had already been peppered three or four times before that. I know what was spoken throughout the day and I know they had a feeling of this wicket not being the greatest. It was

extremely freak,” said Elgar, who had a concussion test on the third evening and on fourth morning. “I’ve faced many fast bowlers before and I know the Wanderers wicket has that steep bounce, but I have never experienced it like that. Which obviously put a bit of doubt in the umpires’ minds. “I can’t think I would have played it any better because if it was that short on a wicket with bounce, it would have gone way over my head and at least given me some time to get out of the way. It’s a freak moment and thankfully the umpires had sanity about the incident.” While the pitch looked dangerous on day three, it seemed a different surface on the fourth morning as Elgar and Hashim. Amla added 119 runs for the second wicket. Elgar said it required a different kind of batsman to succeed in those circumstances. “A lot of times in Test cricket you fight with yourself, especially on a wicket that is allowing seamers to be on top of you,” he said.

Ben Stokes remained the top buy with Rajasthan Royals buying him for Rs 12.50 crore and keeping him with his Pune teammates Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi. The Game’s Beautiful Still New Delhi : Vijay barse still remembers that Saturday afternoon, in 2001. He had left work early, when it started to rain. Barse took shelter under a tree, when he saw something that was to change his life, and those of thousands of children: a few children from a nearby slum were kicking around a broken bucket, trying to play football. Barse often saw the same set of boys on the grounds of Nagpur’s Hislop College, where he was a sports

teacher. These same boys would split the spoils of the day after picking someone’s pocket or share a bidi. “I saw their earnestness for the game and realised that, at least for the time they were playing, these boys

Australian Open 2018: Bopanna-Babos lose to Pavic-Dabrowski in mixed doubles finals Agency Melbourne: Rohan Bopanna and his Hungarian partner Timea Babos frittered away a one set advantage, going down to Mate Pavic and Gabriela Dabrowski in the Australian Open mixed doubles final here on Sunday. The fifth-seeded Bopanna and Babos lost 6-2 4-6 9-11 to the CroatCanadian pair of Pavic and Dabrowski, seeded eighth, in a match which lasted one hour and eight

minutes. Bopanna and Babos dominated the opening set, helped to a great extent, by their erratic opponents, who conceded seven break points. The IndoHungarian combine converted two of

those chances to claim the early advantage. However, Pavic and Dabrowski roared back into the match in the second set. Their serve was flawless and pair did not concede a single break point.

It was Bopanna and Babos’ turn to become erratic now and they were broken once by Pavic and Dabrowski before drawing level. The two teams headed to a tie-breaker from here and after a gruelling contest, Pavic and Dabrowski emerged triumphant. Interestingly, Bopanna had won his maiden Grand Slam crown at the 2017 French Open with Dabrowski.

Four Nations Invitational Hockey: India go down fighting in final after shootout ends in Belgium’s favour

New Delhi : Flashy passes, super-strikes, swift counters, reverse hits, acrobatic saves and in the end a shootout. The perfect pot-boiler that you expect in a final with two teams that are trying to realign the power structure in world hockey. Belgium began in a hurry blowing away four penalty corners and a stroke, all in the first quarter, and then on the back of an

Indian resurgence, came back to equalise not once or twice but four times before taking the game to a shootout and winning it 3-0 to clinch the second leg of the 4-Nation Invitational Hockey Tournament. India, surprisingly, good shootout exponents couldn’t slot in a single goal. At the end of regulation time, both teams were locked 4-4. In a way, it would

be slightly shattering for India as they had weathered most of the Belgian storm but a wayward defensive line and a few soft goals let India down. For India, this was their second consecutive loss in a final to Belgium; and their third defeat to the Olympic silver medallists across both the legs. Seventeen goals in two matches between these two sides

pitch fork the concept that this is a rivalry to look forward to. In the earlier match in the Pool, India beat Belgium 5-4 and on Sunday they took the lead four times in a match they should have wrapped up in regulation time. Both the sides know each other well and quite a few of the Belgian players are also in the Hockey India League. And against India.

SS News : Ahmedabad With the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) cutting off Narmada water supply to farmers for their summer crops, farmer-activist and general secretary of Khedut Samaj (Gujarat) Sagar Rabari on Saturday accused the BJP government of “misusing” the Narmada water to win the recent Assembly elections. Quoting figures from the

official website of the Narmada dam, Rabari said that SSNNL “misused precious water to appease the ruling party, perhaps at the bidding of the BJP’’. Rabari said that the water level in the Narmada dam was 124.02 metres, with a total live storage of 1,946 million cubic metres (MCM) of water, on December 1, 2017. “However, the water level dipped to 118.33 metres and 979

Karnataka: Rahul Gandhi asks cadre to take cue from Gujarat GNS New Delhi : Congress president Rahul Gandhi has asked party men from poll-bound Karnataka to prepare a “people’s manifesto” on the lines of the manifesto made by the Congress in Gujarat. The Congress leaders are expected to interact with several stakeholders in the state and assimilate issues being raised from various quarters. The state is expected to go to polls in May.“The exercise has already been undertaken by a team headed by senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily and it is expected to come out with an ‘all-encompassing manifesto’ much ahead of polling in the state,” a senior party leader said. Mr Gandhi has specifically asked the leaders of Karnataka to make its development programmes the flagship of the Congress campaign and not get into the ‘Hindutva’ issue that is being raised by the BJP. State unit chief G Parme-shwara said, “I do not know whether there is anything called soft or hard Hindutva. What the Congress practises is ‘inclusive Hindutva’, or taking all sections of the people together. The essence of the Hindutva we practise is not to differentiate from one another.” The Congress government in Karnataka has already started Indira canteens that serve food at economical rates. Others schemes that the party will be focusing on are Ksheer Bhagya, Anna Bhagya, Krishi Bhagya, Indira Vastra Bhagya and several others. In the recently concluded Gujarat assembly elections, technocrat Sam Pitroda was used by the Congress to assimilate issues that needed to be included in the party’s manifesto. It focused on education, health, small and medium enterprises, employment generation and environment protection. The AICC secretary incharge of Karnataka Mr Madhu Yashkhi Goud said.

MCM on December 31, 2017. In other words, 967 MCM, or half of the total water of the dam, was used within a month,” he added. The Assembly elections in Gujarat were held in two phases on December 9 and 14. “What does it all indicate?… The ruling BJP and the SSNNL, together, wasted 14.64 metres of precious water (of the dam), snatching it from the people,” he said.

INDORE: The science teacher of a school in Jhabua district found a chilling way to get around the laws against corporal punishment — make the children do it.

The teacher allegedly forced students of an entire class to slap three girls for a week. Each of the victims was allegedly slapped around 168 times. The

father of one of the girl has complained to police, who are in a quandary over who to arrest. New Delhi : In another public outburst in a week, sulking BJP leader Eknath Khadse on Sunday said his patience has limits though he clarified that he had no inclination to quit the saffron party. The former Revenue Minister, who resigned in the year 2016 on allegations of corruption and

impropriety in a land deal, had recently said he should not be compelled to quit the BJP. “I have been meeting my party leaders, asking them to place facts about all allegations against me in the public domain at the earliest. If there is proof, put me in jail but the truth should come out,” Khadse told PTI

at Mumbai. The senior BJP leader also said he had not met the state leadership to make him minister again. “For the last 20 months (since he quit as minister), I remained quiet. There is a limit to my patience. I don’t wish to quit the party with which I have a 40-year-old relation. But if I am insulted and sidelined on the basis of

frivolous charges then what I am supposed to do. What should I do if attempts are made to push me out of the party. Is discipline only for me?” Khadse asked. Addressing a function in his home district Jalgaon, Khadse had said he should not be compelled to quit the BJP. To a question regarding he sharing the dais with Congress leaders at the programme, Khadse played down the incident and said these were birthday functions of leaders from his district. “If (Chief Minister) Devendra Fadnavis can attend the birthday function of (NCP chief) Sharad Pawar, can’t I go to birthday functions of leaders from my district?” he asked.
